Having Karina as my doula gave me so much peace, knowing I had someone to turn to throughout pregnancy and birth that I could trust. The prenatal visits were super helpful in helping me feel prepared for birth. I was particularly concerned about having to be induced, as well as gestational diabetes, and Karina was able to provide me with a lot of great info on those topics. I loved that she provided supplements to take toward the end of pregnancy, as well as rebozo techniques for my husband to learn. When I first hired Karina as my doula I was, admittedly, a little on the fence. This would be my third labor, but my first hiring a professional. I was concerned about my modesty as well as a doulas ability to work WITH my husband as opposed to replacing him during the labor. After delivering a beautiful 9 pound baby girl I can see that my reservations were unfounded. Karina was always respectful of my modesty and, as per my wishes, always stayed above my belt line during my pushing stage. She also demonstrated an incredible ability to work in tandem with my husband and provide him subtle coaching without ever overstepping her bounds or placing herself between he and I. Karina is exceptional. She demonstrated the value that one could only hope a doula has regardless of your birth experience! Despite our desires to have a vaginal and non-medicated birth, our baby stayed in the breech position the whole way through. We opted not to deliver vaginally and instead ended up going into spontaneous labor at 38 weeks and delivering via C-birth. Karina was a valuable resource to my husband and I even once we learned that this would likely be our outcome. She was non-biased and gave us all information regarding an external cephalic version (aka: version), holistic remedies and body positions to help turn baby, options for having a vaginal breech delivery, gentle c-section, spontaneous labor vs. scheduled c-sections, etc. We had a "false alarm" at about 37 weeks and she was there at the hospital with us. She was there once our baby was born (if the hospital would have allowed an additional person in the OR I would have loved for her to have been there as well) and she was there post-partum to check on us and see how breastfeeding was going and to deliver our placenta capsules and oil to us. She was our most valuable resource through the entire process, undoubtedly! And amidst all of the praise I could give her, perhaps my favorite quality of Karina's is that she allowed this to be our experience. To be able to be so present, so available and so supportive whilst maintaining a calm and non-dominant presence is a gift. Thank you Karina for what you do.
