Guess I better write this before I completely forget what the place looked like. Me, my bro and our group of friends stayed here for a few nights one ski trip at Wolf Creek. The resort is only about 20 miles NE of this place, but believe me: lodging here was worth the drive every morning. Especially the morning they closed the pass between Wolf Creek and the more-populated (and tourist-filled) Pagosa Springs, due to heavy snow-fall. Maan did we feel lucky strapping the snow chains on our tires and skidding over those ice patches in complete and awkward silence. LUCKY. Apart from weather conditions, which Ute (pronounced: oot?) really can't be held accountable for, our stay here was accommodating. Our room had a sleeper sofa, kitchen with fridge stove & cooking supplies (handy for hungry-man breakfasts & dinners), a corner dining booth, television & phone, one bathroom and two full-sized beds for the six of us. Like I said, it was accommodating. Ute also offers free wifi, snowmobile rentals, ski and golf packages, communal rec room, and an indoor & outdoor hot tub. Bonus: the majority of a 2 1/2 foot layer of snow avalanched off the roof of the outdoor hot tub milliseconds after one of our guys flicked a cig onto the ground, effectively scaring the bejeezes out of him. That'll teach you not to trash the Mother. In-yo-face!

For the first time of our lives, my husband packed up the motorhome and drove to Colorado in hopes of having a wonderful ATV experience. At first, the guy that works here (theres a man and a woman, I think they may be the owners) told my husband that there were hundred of ATV trails and that if there are any trails that are blocked off, just go around the blockade, he did it all the time apparently. Yah, well, in taking his advice, we were met by 4 park rangers in the middle of the hill while we were on our way down and majorly treated like crap. They acted like we committed a felony crime. We were rudely told that they blocked it off for a reason and that it costed them thousands of dollars to repair the road due to weather damage and now we ruined it again. Knowing that we were California tourists, I guess that meant that we were automatically rich given that we lived in that state, so giving both couples (me and my husband and our two friends) $275 dollar tickets for riding on a blocked road. I was just amazed at this man thinking he was superior. Buddy, youre a park ranger! That totally killed our mojo and pretty much ruined the rest of the trip for us. The man that owned this lodge I don't think had any clue about the ATV trails. He said that we wouldn't have to trailer to any of the trails either, which was a huge lie too. My husband and his friend were stopped by a Colorado highway patrol officer for driving on the street to an ATV trail, and astoundingly enough, he was really awesome. He even said that those park rangers think they're better than everyone else and they're only park rangers becuase they aren't good enough to be real officers. He was pretty cool to talk to apparently. When we started to run out of propane, we asked the man at the front desk if they had any propane trucks in the area that we could call. He said they did and he would personally make the call for us. It was mentioned that we had no cash on us, so we would have to pay with our card. Not a problem, he said. They would pay the propane guy and we would pay with our card to reimburse them before we left. Yah, again, that wasn't the case. The propane guy looked like he had never heard of that before in his life and said that people normally paid him cash. He'd never had the lodge pay him before. He also acted like this was the first time he had been there. We walked to the desk and sadly the woman was there. The propane man did know them and had been there plenty of times as the woman called him by his first name. She gave him cash and I thanked her and said I would pay with my card before we left the next day. Oh no, I had to pay right then and there. I walked alllll the wayyyyy back to the motorhome and walked allllll the wayyyyyy back to the office. Then she rudely reminded me that we had borrowed spa towels and needed to return them!!!! Unbelieveable!!!!!!! This place has really nice camp set up, hook ups worked great, etc. So no complaints there. They even have two beautiful dogs there that are brother and sister that are there to scare the bears away. Totally cute, we would give them food and they loved to hang around us, they even hung out with us when we had our campfires. It was really hard to leave them actually. I also liked the spa there and liked that they had bbq's available there too. Since we visited basically the day that they opened up for the first time since being closed for the winter, no one was really there. They said that our friends could smoke in the spa no problem and be as loud as we wanted, which were things you couldn't normally do there. They also have a really cool rec room there with lots of cute decor and a full kitchen there. Lots of board games, books, a tv. Not thrilled with the bathroom. Really small and the toilet and bathroom are in the same place, so if someone's showering and you have to use the bathroom, youre outta luck. The ATV part of this trip was a bust! But this was definetly one of the nicer campgrounds/lodges that we stayed at while in Colorado.

I was originally very impressed. The place is beautiful, the owners seemed nice. They advertise Wi-Fi but it never worked! That was a little disappointing but we were in the mountains. Also, the beds were hard as concrete. Their website claims they will mail things to you if you leave something behind. I called the same day we left and left a message that I left some very expensive pillows and wanted to talk about getting them back. I never heard back. It took me a couple of phone calls and an email but the owners couldn't find my pillows. I showed them what they looked like on Amazon and sent a picture of the pillows in their cabin. The next day I got an email saying I would have replacements shortly. Sure enough, the following week I had new pillows at my door step! This was great service!! I will recommend this place and I would stay again just because of the awesome service.

Stayed at the Ute Bluff Lodge from July 16th-23rd. We had a caravan of folks arriving from Arizona and one couple from MO. The MO folks arrived earlier in the day and let the office people know we'd be rolling in later, then due to a breakdown, etc we didn't arrive until 10:10 pm. The office stayed open for us to pay and meet us, they usually close at 9:00 pm. The lodging available include an RV park, lodge and cabins. This worked perfectly for our group and all types of lodging were used. My hubby and I stayed in a 'cabin'. Please note they are not individual cabins but attached to each other like a duplex or triplex. There is not a lot of parking adjacent to each cabin but between the lodge parking, RV area and an extra parking area close by it all worked out for us. We were in a pick up truck, with trailers hauling a Jeep. The cabin had a full kitchen although the refrigerator could really be replaced in cabin #5 as I'm not sure it seals completely. There was a microwave, coffee maker and lots of pans, dishes, utensils, towels, etc. All paper products such as paper towels, coffee filters, TP, garbage bags are included. I had to ask for extra TP and towels but once I did they were supplied regularly. There is a TV with dish or something so many channels to view. No dresser to put clothes in so we lived out of our suitcases for the week and that becomes a little difficult. Our bed was probably the most uncomfortable thing I've slept on in years! Since it's CO there is no AC but a fan provided in the cabin and all the windows open. I'm not sure there was heat though we didn't need it. There is a function/recreation room with a bathroom/shower (I think for the RV people), full kitchen and tables and chairs. Since we had a large group we wanted to go eat in there and we were told by management that it really wasn't preferred that we do that but it started to rain and we all went in. There were other people in there on the wi-fi cooking and eating. There is complimentary wi-fi but it seems to go down every night around 9:00 pm or everyone is trying to use it and it's weak. One thing I noticed about most of the lodge/cabin locations in South Fork is they right on the main road. You hear the traffic all the time. Kind of loses that country feel. Don't think I'd go back to South Fork after having been there and Silverton. I'd choose Silverton again. There are 2 really nice dogs Blue & Taz running around too.

Just coming from a very long motorcycle trip down 149, I had a couple of choices to choose from. I read some of the comments on here and I found that the owner was responsible enough to care in responding, so I thought I would give it a shot. I also like the fact that it was a little aways from town, 3 miles. I met the owner for the first time last night, he was extremely pleasant and very nice. He may be aware that he just purchased the property about a year ago with his wife. They have done a lot of upgrades, and one in particular are the beds that I found to be extremely comfortable! I intend to find out the manufacturer of this bed because it allowed me to sleep in complete comfort and I woke up with no back pain at all for a change. And the bath towels are better than most 3 star hotels! The owner made recommendations on restaurants in town. The WIFI is extremely good. Better than average to be honest. I was getting better than 80 MB per second. I plan to stay here again in the future, it was a very good deal and I found the rooms to be clean.

The facility is 2 stories with some separate, cute cabins in the back. We stayed in room #1, street side on the lower level. Though accommodations were basic, the room was immaculate and large, with 2 queen beds and night stands, a good size table & chair with flat screen TV, coffee pot with the necessary supplies, small fridge, microwave and still plenty of room to move around easily. Mattress & pillows were super comfy as were bed linens. Nice, quality drapes block the light well from the very large windows and the adjustable ceiling fan keeps the air moving & room comfy. The bath & dressing area in our room was newly updated & very nice. I really liked that the sink & dressing area was separate from the toilet/bath. One person could be in the bathroom or shower while someone else did hair & makeup or dressed.... works well for women traveling together. The place was clean and quiet, the bed was super comfy, bath water was hot & I could have my morning coffee..... that really checks everything off the list for this frugal traveler. But they also had a continental breakfast so we could grab a muffin or cereal for a quick breakfast, which helped save some bucks. The HUGE plus for this place is Tina. She was engaged from the moment we walked in the door. She was friendly and personable, attentive and reactive to our requests and needs & gave us all kinds of information and helpful tips. Thank you, Tina for a great stay.... you are a gem!

We were told by the owner that after about 9:00 PM the room would cool down from the river breeze, so we decided to stay. Unfortunately, the room never cooled off and remained uncomfortably hot all night. We were traveling with family, including a pregnant woman, which made the lack of air conditioning even more concerning. To make matters worse, it was nearly impossible to reach anyone for assistance. When I finally spoke with staff at their sister property late that night, I was told my only options were to either check out around midnight for a refund or stay and receive no refund. Asking a family to find another hotel in the middle of the night is not a reasonable solution. If your rooms don't have air conditioning, that should be clearly disclosed before booking. The location is beautiful, but the lack of transparency and poor customer service completely overshadowed our stay.

Hi there. I am writing this review in total support of the Spruce Lodge. I truly enjoyed my stay…read morehere even if it was for one evening to rest my head. I visited in early May of this year journeying through southern Colorado visiting my lifelong goal of reaching every national park in the country. So....just coming from Great Sand Dunes National Park exploring for the day, Spruce Lodge was only 66 miles away. Although South Fork is just a drive through town, ending my eventful day here was ideal for me. Also, the following day I was heading to Mesa Verde National Park 137 miles away but Spruce Lodge was situated right in between these 2 great parks so I highly recommend staying here especially because there's no towns or cities nestled in between if you were to bypass South Fork....if you're headed west like I was, you head straight into the mountains for a while. In my opinion...Spruce Lodge had aspects of part bed and breakfast with a villa and rustic feel to its rooms. Lol, I was sort of enamored with the looks of it all that I photographed my room and the grounds outside to post on Yelp explaining how cozy and clean I felt the accommodations were. Simply trying to explain...Spruce Lodge is a little mom and pop spot to stay at located right off the main road in South Fork. I checked in at the main lodge and was kindly given the keys to my room by the innkeeper. My room was based back outside the lodge towards the left hand side. It was connected as part of a townhouse/condo which was an unexpected surprise because all I was asking for was a simple place to sleep for the night. And yet I go so much more. My room inside had a cabin vibe to it and felt very clean. Also, there were 2 chairs next to the porch outside which I sat down on after dinner soaking up the setting sun before heading to bed. There is a BBQ restaurant right next door to the lodge that looked interesting but unfortunately the one night I was staying on a Monday evening, was the one night the BBQ place was closed. Still, the innkeeper recommended The Old Firehouse Restaurant just down the road and it was more than suffice. Old Firehouse serves American food offering sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, pizza and classic dinners such as meat loaf and pot roast. I'd recommend going here if you're not a BBQ person or if the BBQ restaurant next door is closed. Finally, Spruce lodge has free continental breakfast offered starting 6:30 am. If you're interested in a full breakfast, I believe there's a restaurant that you pay for inside the actual lodge...though since I wanted an early start out to Mesa Verde the following day, the continental breakfast was plenty enough. Almost forgot, visiting in early May, my room rate was $65! That was fantastic for the situation and for what I believed to be a quality a place to stay. I can imagine when it's more in season, the rates would never be this cheap. In all, I'd certainly recommend choosing Spruce Lodge. For location, accommodations, price, food options and surroundings it's about as good as you'll find when trekking through southern Colorado or wherever your travels may take you.
