If you want to be close to the city but surrounded by beauty I highly suggest this resort. I work in town and it takes me eight minutes to get to work but while not at work I am taking advantage of this blissful beautiful gift. You also can follow the bike bath to experience breathtaking views only accessible by walking, biking or paddling; and it is a two mile walk to town. I love to stop in and be treated so kindly by the management. They have always been wonderful! I have a dog and it is so nice just to take off walking with her and be mesmerized by the mountains and the river. The WiFi works great, sometimes i drop calls but who cares and it could just be my carrier. The hot water is HOT be careful and the place was toasty warm. It is so cute ! I will be leaving but this will always be a wonderful time in my life. If you are a river person like me.It is quite convenient to go two exits up out in at grissly and paddle home. Then a short ride back on my bike to get my car. Love it love it love it!

We were on the road and going to be coming after hours check in. We called the office multiple times as instructed to do and got no answer. We went to the campsite and checked our cabin we paid $500 for and there were no instructions on how to get in. It was dark there was no signage so we left and had to find last minute accommodations. I left many voicemails and an email at this point about the issue asking for help and ultimately after no answer for a refund. They called back 2 days later and are refusing to refund and are blatantly lying to Colorado Business Bureau all so they can keep our 500 dollars. Pretty insane business practices and I wish I had read more reviews sooner of similar experiences with this place. Beware of this so called resort.

The staff at the KOA was very friendly and super helpful. We rented a two-room cabin (one full…read moresized bed and two twin sized bunk beds). Our cabin and the bathrooms were clean. The cabin was very comfortable and came with a Keurig coffee maker, microwave, and minifridge. The beds were very comfortable and the heaters worked well. The only issue we had was that the KOA is located. It is located off of the major highway so there was a lot of highway noise. There's also a railroad track right behind the campground, but the track isn't used very often. Apparently they get a train once every two to three weeks. An additional minor issue is that the WiFi is very weak and did not reach to our cabin. For the WiFi to work, you had to be near the office. There's an outdoor pool that was closed because we were there in late October. There's an outdoor volleyball court and a small children's playground.

Things have been changing over the last few years here. It was good to see they now have signs in different areas around campsites as where to walk, and where not to walk. They had a special program at the amphitheater on the Saturday that we were there, but they did not allow dogs, so I was unable to go. (I think different national parks and monuments handle this differently, as in Capitol Reef, in Utah, we have been invited to their night events when camping by the presenters themselves.) On recent trips, we have seen some strange things. But this past weekend (during an early and cool part of summer,) we were left stunned by some of the fellow campers. Originally, we booked on recreation.gov to camp for several days. When we arrived, we were able to move to the C section, which is no generators, and is generally more peaceful. Usually, most people are very respectful of other campers. There were young boys at the campsite next to ours who were very loudly discussing how they were killing ants with charcoal briquettes. Later, the father tells them to bury the briquettes in the dirt. The charcoal thing was a bit worrisome with the dry branches all around the campsites. Another night, at 3 AM, a young child is screaming and crying. A few minutes are understandable. This went on for over a half hour. While this campground and area will always be very special to me, camping in my own backyard in the suburbs is more peaceful than camping here during the summer.

Less than an hour away from Steamboat Springs, Pearl Lake State Park is a jewel (yes, I went…read morethere). It is about 2 miles off of CR-129. We went to do some morning photography and caught some stunning scenery, with Aspen groves turning yellow. While it was still a bit early for the full fall beauty, the serenity and quiet of the surroundings, other than nature, was nice. The campgrounds are in great shape. The restrooms were very clean. The lake does not allow motorized boats, but kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. are fine. We saw a lone kayaker enjoying the morning on the lake. This is a beautiful place for camping, hiking, fishing or just sitting back and watching the sun move slowly across the sky while you enjoy a bottle of Syrah or Pinot.

This beautiful wilderness area is spectacular but this particular campsite is worth the 11mile dirt road to get there. Again, if solitude and serenity and spaciousness and privacy is your 'thing' -- I highly recommend this place. No reservations accepted but according to the host (who lives onsite), no reservations are needed. Apparently, this is camper's dream spot but also a best-kept-secret!

Since I haven't been in the summer when I feel you can really take advantage my opinion is definitely skewed but it's worth the short and beautiful drive from Steamboat (about 50 minutes). The park was $9 to get in and you also have access to go to Pearl Lake with the day pass, but out of the two options this one was definitely better. There's a short hike about 1.1 miles called Tombstone nature trail. Looking forward to going back sometime in the summer when there's more to explore and I can spend time on the water.

stayed in an upgraded camping cabin with a bathroom and it was only ok. we are long time smaller…read morecamping cabin users and thought it would be nice to try this upgraded site. at first glance the cabin seemed clean apart from some flies within the unit - but after wiping the high traffic areas of the cabin i noticed a lot of dirt on the wipes.. a bit disappointing. beds were made of memory foam - which seemed more comfortable than traditional koa camping cabins with the plastic mattresses - but also made me wonder what sort of liquids might have seeped into the mattress.. eww. beyond that - the ladder leading up to the beds was somewhat difficult to use - i can't imagine using the ladder if you have bad knees or after a night of heavy drinking. just beware of this before you book as it could be dangerous for some. i would stay at this koa again.. the people were friendly, the cabin had tv - more cable channels than i get at home! all that being said, next time i would probably opt for a smaller cabin closer to the river. having the bathroom within the cabin was nice - but ultimately, i think it would have been nicer to be closer to the river.

I love this campground! It's one of three closest to Maroon Bells. It's now becoming an annual…read moreretreat for me. There are four spots at this campground, which is right by the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. Last year, I was set up at site 4, which is by a serene stream that put me to sleep at night. This year, I was at site 1, a little further away from the babbling brook, yet still close enough to hear it. Site 4 is the accessible site. It's right by where you park, and the enclosed toilet. In contrast, site 1 is pushed back a ways. You definitely feel like you're in a secluded area at this site. When you check in, you'll pay a $10 pass fee, which allows you to drive up to the Maroon Bells parking area. I've had nothing but great experiences at this site and highly recommend. This year, I was able to see deer in the area, including the cutest fawn jumping across the great entrance. As it's only four spots, it can book up quickly. It's definitely worth it, though, as it's a quieter campground. Each site has about two parking spots right at the entrance to the site.
