For goodness sake, somebody needs to Yelp the Victorian luxury B&B…read more Because most B&Bs that call themselves "luxury" don't like up to the hype. But here, there's no hype, just honest-to-goodness amazingness. First of all, there is the utterly unique factor. This house was once in Kansas. Kansas! How did it get here, in the Colorado ski center of Steamboat Springs? That's a good story. And then there are the owners. From Melbourne. In Australia. How are they connected to a Kansas Victorian in Colorado ski country? That's a good story, too. And the amenities. Billiards, anyone? Eggs benedict and granola and house-made apple jelly on freshly baked bread? Sunrises and sunsets worthy of Ansel Adams? The world's coolest third-story game room? Complimentary sunscreen and lip balm in addition to the usual hair and body products? An amazing fireplace, an antique piano, stained glass windows, spiral staircases, a hot tub, heated sidewalks (when it snows ...), an outdoor patio, rooms upon rooms filled with special things, comfy beds and drop-dead gorgeous bathrooms (yes, it's true), and very nice people, too? Oh, it's also in Steamboat Springs. A cool part of Colorado, and not all that Aspeny at all. Sure, it's a ski mecca. But it's got a great Victorian B&B hidden amidst all those cookie-cutter condos and timeshares, too. If this doesn't deserve to be called luxury, then nothing does.

They have an outdoor spa, pool table and cinema room. This is my home away from home.

The entire property and the beautiful Yampa River running behind the house is an incredibly peaceful environment. The views on the deck at sunset were awesome! We took advantage of the fire pit and enjoyed an evening camp fire under the stars. The farm is close enough to get to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs (They are outside of Steamboat Springs. If you haven't been there yet, we highly recommend the experience!) We enjoyed checking out the shops and history of the nearby small towns of Hayden and Craig. We loved being part of the farm while we were there. We milked our first cow, enjoyed watching the goats and their "kids", and had the bonus of the family's arrival of their piglets. They were so cute! (Darn you delicious bacon!!) The farm to table breakfast was delicious and Rachel is a great cook and host. We'll definitely go back again in another season to see how the farm changes and have another relaxing getaway. The property is beautiful with a gorgeous view of the sunrise. We very much enjoyed seeing the goats and pigs, not an everyday site when you live in the city. They accommodated our dietary restrictions quiet well. We enjoyed walking around the properties trails, the fire by the creek, and visiting with the hosts. Private entrance led to a large bright room with microwave and mini-fridge, tv, table and chairs and very comfortable king sized bed. The light colored bedding, long flowy ivory curtains and the sound of the creek right outside our windows created a very romantic/peaceful vibe. Bathroom is large and nicely appointed. There are two private patios, creekside, just down from the house. My boyfriend and I enjoyed sitting by the fire, listening to the water and sipping Prosecco. Then there was breakfast.....SO delicious. Stan made us what I would consider a very cheffy/gourmet meal; salmon, potatoes, eggs, fruit salad, english muffin and his homemade raspberry butter. Coffee and great conversation with Stan and the other guests made for a really nice time. Hummingbirds galore, places to hike and admire nature if you chose, or sit and just relax. It's also close enough to town to be most places within a few minutes. Wonderful experience, thank you Stan! Would 100% recommend and we hope to be back.

It's not your uber modern hipster type of place, but more like staying with a good friend. There are just 2 guest rooms, so not a lot of noise like hotels. The owner and his wife stay in an apartment in the basement and come up to use the main kitchen and make sure things are running smoothly for guests. This B&B has a comfortable king bed with buttery soft sheets, massive bathroom stocked with all the essentials, breakfast and snacks readily available, and a wonderful hot tub which is a must-have amenity in our book. Nothing like hot tubbing while it's snowing. PROS: -We arrive early and were able to check-in right away -Derek is the consummate host, friendly and welcoming -Can walk to all bars, restaurants and shops downtown -Street parking available any time of the day or night -King bed, good pillows, soft blankets for great sleep -TV with Netflix and Hulu, though we didn't watch -Body wash, shampoo, lotion, blow dryer, fluffy towels -Properly cleaned room, bathroom and even hot tub -Keurig machine for coffee, hot chocolate, tea, etc. -Fridge with creamer, milk, OJ and room for our beer -Breakfast/snack options, great to grab and go -Keyless locks on doors plus Ring cam for security -Derek can arrange for you to have a massage on-site -Outdoor spaces are also 420 and smoker friendly Considerations - not cons - be sure you're ok with your partner's bodily functions. The sliding door to the bathroom is beautiful but does not offer much privacy or sound barrier. The cast iron tub is great in theory but stepping up into it (and out again) for showers is an adventure. Also, the overflow cutout is low, so you don't get a completely full tub to soak in. There are hooks for coats and other places to unpack clothing, but it would've been great to have access to the closet to fully get our stuff and bag out of the way. Also, this is an old home with creaky floors and stairs which I personally love. However, if you're a light sleeper, you're gonna hear squeaks and the murmur of voices. Bottom line, we had a wonderful time and will be back!

I would very much recommend the Hood House as a great option when visiting anywhere in the Platt Valley. But wait, when I arrived for my two day stay I found beautiful, nicely waxed wood floors. My dog Rigal will not walk on a slippery floor, not for anything. So it's a little late and no one is around so I figure I will just carry him up the steep, narrow stairs, he thinks otherwise. Three steps up and he wiggles out and I take a few very fast steps back to the landing. Second attempt was a scary ride for both of us but successful. We were in the Saratoga area to photograph fall color so we get up before the sun, and the fire escape looks much less scary in the dark. Rigal was not thrilled but more cooperative then last night. What he, nor I saw was the fact the last five or six feet of steps are not there, it is a fire escape. I just didn't see that one coming. Luckily Rigel took a leap of faith into my arms and we were off to shoot that color. I forgot to mention, Rigel is the most beautiful 105 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback you will ever see! Thank you Carol for understanding and refunding me the second night.
