Everything is high quality and stylishly chosen. Reminds me a lot of some of the bigger general stores in Kyoto that provide all the daily necessities (dishware, utensils, lacquerware, ikebana items, tea service items, textiles and fabrics, plus some last minute gift ideas.) I always find one or two completely unique items found here and nowhere else. One of the last Japanese general stores still operating in spite of online stores and still manages to keep the prices reasonable. LOVE this store! Huge selection of various Japanese ceramics, primary for cooking/food. There's plenty of high quality products for tea and dishware, but also a large selection of affordable sets which are perfect for gifts! They have a large sale selection at the front, last time I went I saw $1 chopsticks which made for great stocking stuffers. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Overall a great store! Have always loved this shop for unique dish ware and gift giving. Been coming for over 20 years. We use one of the pearl sets of plates and bowls and order them from here. Sometimes it takes a long time for them to get the stick in but they are always good at keeping us updated and letting us know when to come in. They have beautiful tea and sake sets that love gifting to guests and coworkers. Always impresses. A lot of times they go on sale and you can pick some up 50% off. They have the cutest and most unique styles and decorations of dishes and spoons along with small little trinkets. They have a matcha bowl set and sell matcha. I went to buy a matcha bowl for $16 so beautful! Very nice workers but please be careful in there. The space is very tight and might knock some of their stuff. read more

I had contacted the shop via email asking about delivery. They were kind to say if I purchase anything in store and wish to get it deliver home (as it would be too fragile to put in luggage to bring home on the airplane), it would be a $10 shipping fee. Also, there is a website but the shops may have more options that isn't listed online. Good to know. I came here with my husband and friend and we browse their merchs. I was hoping to find large serving platters (to use to serve sushi or something at home) and some ramen bowls. Most plates were too small or round dinner plates when we were looking for large serving platters (long rectangular). Lots of cute stuff. Lots of fragile items that we were trying to be extra careful as we purview the items as they were more costlier than I expected. But they are quality great stuff so that explains the pricing but still out out of my budget range. I was really tempted to get a few stuff but it wouldn't be a large enough purchase to warrant the shipping fee and it wouldn't fit my luggage anyways. They have bowls, plates, cups, mugs, matcha bowls and supplies, and even home decor. The prices are extremely reasonable given that most of them are handmade, porcelain, stoneware, and imported from Japan with crazy shipping costs. I am surprised that I have never written a review for Utsuwa-No-Yakata. When I was younger, my family and I loved to shop Utsuwa-No-Yakata for Japanese tableware and would stop by the store every time we were nearby. Most recently, we had purchased a few bowls from the online store. We were also looking for other sized plates to replace ones we had, and after calling the store and searching their online store, we could not find them (as they are an older style that is no longer popular). The store associate was kind and patient in answering my questions. The online website has the perfect amount of information: dimensions, photos, where the items is made, and etc. They sell quality-made items and ones that are unique as well. For "fragile" items, the shipping is not exorbitant and the items were packaged well. read more

Coming in to the shop is always chaotic and fun. Lots of culinary items to sort through. They have a good mix of extremely floral designs and some neutral colored modern ones, like this one. Bought my new favorite coffee mug right here. I have used it for multiple hot drinks per day for the last 2 months, and the inside shows no cracks or wear. My god it's so cute in here! A beautiful, atmospheric little kitchenware store in a mall behind Little Tokyo. It's so quiet but the bell chimes inside are so welcoming. The manager (?) is also really nice :) The prices are fair and everything is presented neatly. I personally appreciate their iron teapots, I will definitely be back to splurge. I always see this store when I'm going to Daiso! I'm usually in a hurry so I don't ever have time to slow down and stop inside this store, but it's cute little knick knacks and tea sets always beckon me! This little store is a treasure trove! When I do have time and am able to stop by, I'm always astounded at the sheer amount of beautiful stuff, pottery, and home goods that are in here. I wish I could outfit my entire dining set from this store, but alas... I am not rich enough! Hahaha Anyways the last time I went, I bought this little tea set for $25ish since it was on sale. This place is such a great gem of you like raw and organic stone kitchenwares. I just wish they were more detailed regarding what was "dishwasher" safe. UPDATE* I placed a gorgeous cup in the dishwasher and it started to have all over shatters ); I wish they had told me that one cup was Not dishwasher safe. I don't mind hand washing but I would just need to know what items are delicate :/ She was a $25 cup so I just keep her and hand wash it now but I'm just worried she will crack some day. Really bummed, I feel like this could've been avoided if they didn't just brush it off as "just say yes for the sale" attitude? Still a great shop due to the many variety. If you're looking for beautiful ceramic tableware pieces, this place is for you. Most of the pieces are factory-made, but there is a section for handmade pieces to the right of the cash register. The factory-made pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe while most of the handmade ones are not. Some smaller factory-made pieces displayed in front of the store are 3 for $10 or 2 for $10. Many medium-sized pieces, like ramen bowls and dinner plates, are between $10 and $20. The handmade pieces tend to be over $50. There is a section to the left of the register where clearance and on sale pieces tend to be displayed (20-50% off). If you park at the attached parking structure, don't forget to ask for validation while checking out. You get one hour of validation here, and you can combine it with another store's to get up to 2 hours free parking. I would give this place 4 stars for the products and prices alone. What tips the scale to 5 stars is the service. One of the pieces I checked out had a blemish; I didn't look closely enough to tell if it was a crack or stain. The store clerk caught that and informed me. That was the last piece that was in stock, but she advised me to wait to get that piece until they get more shipment next month. She could have rang that piece and sold it to me, so I really appreciated her business ethics and integrity. read more

This cute shop tucked away in little Tokyo has the best selection of plates and dishes of all size. I love perusing around the store and looking at all the delicate ceramics. Some of the really nice ones are a bit pricier but they do have a really nice sale section as well. I picked up a few bowls of different sizes and a sauce plate. Would definitely come back for more once I make room in my cabinet. There's an adjacent parking structure. I went there intending only to buy a contemporary, shallow, red & dark gray Japanese bowl & a black/red matcha bowl, but when I got to the store, I found so, so many other amazing pieces in this gem of a store, that I also picked up a large, wabi sabi, shigaraki vase and a lacquered, red/gold wood serving tray. This store carries so many beautiful and authentic Japanese ceramic pieces. It was so hard to choose items and leave the store because I wanted everything! :) They pretty much had everything I was looking for because they had different ceramic artist and types of dishes for plating. Staff was extremely, helpful and friendly. You can tell these pieces are extremely well-made and so beautiful and unique. Happy with our purchases and will definitely be back again soon. Unbelievable! The old woman switched out the spoons, that I bought. Do not buy anything from this store! I looked at the back of the spoons. Apparently, these people had returns and switched it out. The spoons did not look like this, before I bought them. The paint has been scratched off of them! Receipt says no exchanges or returns. No mention or signs,saying that. Deceitful at the least! I absolutely love this little shop ! I have had this in my Yelp bookmarks for quite some time, so long I forgot that I had it saved ! Recently I have really been into cooking, & I am obsessed with Japanese ceramics. I am not a huge fan of buying generic tableware sets from stores, what gets me about the Japanese ceramics is how unique each piece is, & how you can mix + match, & in the end the pieces all go together, making a nice set ! Somehow, it just works. I was pretty excited about this place, I dragged my husband along so we made the trek from OC all the way here. Seems a bit extra, but I figured a change of scenery would be nice. I have never been in this plaza, so this shop is sort of a hidden gem. It's located a couple blocks away from Japanese Village Plaza, where everyone goes when they visit Little Tokyo. Right outside the front entrance, there were deals waiting & ceramics placed outside for passer by's - I loved that ! The medium-small sized bowls were two for $10 & smaller pieces were three for $10 if I remember right. The ambiance of this store is just amazing. I was digging the vibe. Dark & well lit, clean, modern. Even though most of the pieces are factory made, I can guarantee you, from a person that seeks out ceramics on the regular, you won't be finding this at H Mart or 99 Ranch - these are unique & worth buying. Alllll shapes & sizes. The prices are right ! My only complaint? I really wish they had baskets for the customers. I had to take a couple trips to the register to put the pieces I purchased because I didn't want to keep carrying them around while still looking. There may have been baskets but I didn't see any. I got some beautiful new plates, bowls, and bamboo utensils here recently and I feel like they really elevate my plating to make all my meals look pretty fancy. The prices can be a little expensive but you're getting something handmade and more unique than by getting something at your local CB2 for example. Only complaint I have would be that the lady working at the register didn't seem to be in the greatest mood. Maybe she was having a rough day but I expected more friendliness and smiles from the staff. I felt like a kid in a candy shop! This place reminds me of a combination of Pier 1 and World Market. It's located on the first level of the mall. You can park in the garage and get free parking validation. There were many sales. I compared the products on sale to Amazon prices, and found the exact items almost half the price cheaper than Amazon. Although, the items that were not on sale were marked on the pricier end. Nonetheless, I can guarantee you that you will walk out of here with great quality items for a great price if you just look. The customer service here was amazing. We were there close to closing and Reiko was very patient with us. She never rushed us and she took her time to package all of our items perfectly. This place has more options for Japanese tableware within L.A., but I wish the selection were nicer. They do have some things that I did not find at other shops, but too many things are commonly sold at other "cheap" stores. Like the origami crane chopsticks rest. I was very disappointed that their miso soup bowl selection was slim, and I was shocked and appalled to see plastic ones. When I asked the girl behind the counter a question, I was surprised by her icy, matter-of-fact, one-word response. As I was getting ready to pay, another (older) employee arrived. Since I grew up in Japan, my first language is Japanese, so I understood what the girl said to the employee who just arrived. The girl was charming and warm to the arriving colleague. Since she is face-to-face with customers, she should interact with customers in the same warm way as she did with her colleague. After all, our purchases are how she gets paid, and the management should remind her of that. read more

I have been here twice now, once for some beautiful ceramic bowls, and more recently for some housewarming gifts for a friend. I wasn't planning on getting anything for myself this second time, but there were some handblown sake glasses that were very hard to resist! My only qualm is that it's a little cluttered in there. They have a lot of discounted bowls/plates outside of their store. I was able to find a rice bowl for only $5 that is made in japan. The quality is very good.
