We loved it so much that when we decided we had to come back to Ludington, we worked the cost into our budget specifically so we could stay here again. Ludington stole our hearts, and this place has become part of the experience for us. The location is absolutely spectacular. You're directly across the street from the beach and lighthouse access, and you can walk into town in about 10-20 minutes for ice cream, snacks, shopping, restaurants, and all the cute little things that make Ludington such a fun beach town. You're also right near the harbor. We hardly needed our car once we arrived. I really love the amenities here because they aren't trying to be over-the-top. Everything is simple, comfortable, and thoughtfully done. There's a pool that goes all the way to 9 feet deep, with a rope separating the deep and shallow areas. I love spending time out there, and there are plenty of tables and lounge chairs. They even provide pool towels, which is such a nice touch. Our room was small, but it was very thoughtfully laid out. We had a comfortable queen-size bed, a little table with two chairs, Wi-Fi, a microwave, and a mini fridge WITH an actual freezer. I know that sounds like such a small thing, but having a real little freezer is incredibly convenient when you're traveling! I also really appreciate the little details. There are cute retro coasters, a little guide with information about the property and Ludington, coffee with flavored creamers, and really nice bathroom products. The body wash smelled SO good. The linens deserve some credit too. There's nothing fancy about them, but the sheets are white, clean, crisp cotton, and the towels are nice and thick. They even provide a makeup towel, which I always appreciate. There's also a spot where you can grab an extra towel or blanket yourself whenever you need one. I LOVE this. Nobody wants to have to call the front desk because they need an extra washcloth or towel. It's just one more little thing that makes staying here easy. And because you're staying directly by the beach, I love that they have a broom available too. There is ALWAYS going to be sand when you stay at a beach, so having a way to sweep it up is just practical and thoughtful. Even though there are quite a few units, I've found it to be surprisingly quiet. The staff has also always been incredibly kind and accommodating. You get one parking space per unit, which has never been an issue for us. I'm not sure what the arrangement would be if you needed additional parking, but for the two of us it has been perfect. The only minor complaint I could possibly make is that the room does feel a little humid at times. However, the air conditioner worked absolutely fabulously, so we were never uncomfortable or too hot. This isn't a luxury resort, and the rooms aren't huge or fancy. That's not what makes this place special. It's the location, the cleanliness, the thoughtful little touches, the pool, the friendly staff, and the fact that it makes being in Ludington so easy. It feels simple, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. We loved it enough to come back for a second year, and I have a feeling we'll be back again.

Open windows allowed for a crisp cross breeze in our room. A pretty vinyl floor made for easy cleaning of sand tracked in from the beach. Not fancy. Just a step back in time that enhanced our whole trip. On a side note, we were able to use an AirBnB gift card at the hotel.

My thought processes was where can I go within driving distance with Bentley(my fur-baby), hike and take in beautiful sunsets on the beach.... After a short search Michigan and Highway 31 Cabins checked ALL the boxes! The airbnb hosts Charlie and Andra were great! They responded within minutes to my messages, gave detailed/easy to understand directions to their location and instructions on how to enter the cabin along with where to park(all very much appreciated!)... the area is super cute, half circle of cabins, complete with a fire pit. Once inside everything looked up just as pictured on their Airbnb site; no surprises. My favorite part was the information binder with "insider/local" tips, love exploring the hidden gems to local areas. Lots of amazing sites to see within a reasonable distance. Pictured below are a few of the places I explored during my stay. I'm not telling you where I went... you'll need to book Highway 31 Cabins for the inside scoop. They put a lot of effort in on mapping out locations(all in the information binder); I'm not just going to give it away... ;) The entire process from booking, checking in and out was seamless; overall a great experience!

Ludington State Park is HUGE, and we absolutely loved it! We paid $12 to get into the park and…read morestarted with the hike to Big Sable Lighthouse. It's about 1.8 miles each way, so just under 4 miles round trip. The trail to the lighthouse is a wide, sandy path that runs through the campground and then continues out toward the lighthouse. It's an easy path, but it is long and definitely sandy, so be prepared for that. The lighthouse area is really cute, and while we didn't care about going inside this time, they do offer tours. It was $8 per person when we were there. There are also picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy the area around the lighthouse. After our hike, we headed over to the beach, and WOW. The beach is absolutely massive and beautiful. It's sandy rather than rocky, incredibly clean, and the water was crystal clear. It was definitely brisk, but so beautiful that I didn't mind! There's a designated swimming area, volleyball nets, and really nice facilities. There are no lifeguards, though, so keep that in mind. It also looked like there were some really cool trails through the sand dunes, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore those on this trip. We needed to grab lunch, rest, and hit the pool before coming back later for sunset. And I am SO glad we came back. The sunset here was absolutely spectacular. Watching the sun go down over this huge, beautiful stretch of sandy beach was one of the highlights of our entire trip. This park really has everything: the lighthouse, miles of trails, huge sand dunes, a beautiful beach, swimming, volleyball, camping, and some incredible views. We only scratched the surface of what there is to explore, and I already know we'd love to come back and spend an entire day here. Definitely one of the highlights of our Ludington trip and absolutely worth the $12 admission!

I stopped in here for half a day to do some hiking and get my nature fix before moving on to my…read morenext road trip destination. The road to the entrance is full of sand dunes and beaches on Lake Michigan before turning into a wooded area at the actual park. We got to see a Bald Eagle perched upon a tree as we entered the park. The park has several RV camp sites that to me looked to be right on top of each other. They pack them in like sardines but I think that is the norm at these type of places these days. Not sure what the cost is to camp but for non-residents to come in for a day pass it was 11.00 per day. We decided to do the Lost Lake trail which is a loop across a couple islands on Hamlin Lake (yes there are bridges, you don't need to bring your snorkel). The hike was relatively void of people only passing a few along the way. I did see a hand full of people kayaking on the lake and a few more kayaks parked on the bank near the campground. The hike is 2.1 miles long and relatively flat the whole way. I wanted to do the lighthouse trail as well but there wasn't enough time. Great place to get your nature fix via kayak or foot. Not sure I would want to camp here on a weekend though unless you want Billy Bob and Mary Sue's 7 rugrats running around your site screaming.

We happened to be the only guests for that weekend and it was certainly lovely. Our room was the Victorian room. It's got a fireplace, a big bed, lots of room and it's own bathroom with a whirlpool tub. The other rooms are really nice too as we saw on our tour of the house. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious...fresh baked breads, juice, eggs and fruit awaited us both mornings. It was always extremely bountiful. I'd definitely recommend staying here again if you want a romantic weekend away from the city.
