As it sit here waiting for my teenager, I decided it was past time to review Vacendak Dentistry so that Dr Dan and Dr Shiela get the accolades that they deserve. This office is wonderful; from their front-desk staff being friendly and knowledgeable to the Doctors themselves being amazing dentists. When I schedule with them, they're ALWAYS accurate and 100% sure ... I have to juggle appointments for three kids (plus myself) and I get super frustrated when an office is constantly canceling or rescheduling appointments on me. This NOT an issue with Vacendak Dentistry... if they schedule us, that is when we will see them! As an extra bonus - they always run on time!! Love it. When it comes to payment, they're ALWAYS up front with us about what the cost is before they do any work (barring anything unexpected, of course), providing a written estimate before they even go back. We have Tricare and our Dental recently changed VERY MUCH for the worse... they have been wonderful about maximizing our coverage and making sure we understand the costs of appointments and procedures before starting. I see Dr Dan, and he diagnosed my TMJ, suggesting we try a mouth guard as a potentially simple and less expensive solution before I spend a ton on orthodontics. The custom mouth guard (which was affordable for us) has helped a lot, relieving my jaw pain from clenching at night and I wear it during the day while working to prevent my jaw from locking. We are grateful to have finally found a wonderful dental office here in Hampton Roads that is so close to our home and cares so very much for each of their patients. read more

We moved to Great Bridge area two years ago. My daughters and I have been going to Vacendak for our dental needs for a little over a year and have been super pleased. The office staff is very friendly. The dental assistants and hygienists are knowledgeable and friendly. They are conscientious of the patient's comfort or discomfort and adjust accordingly. My youngest daughter had her teeth cleaned a couple weeks ago and raved about their massage chair she relaxed in while getting her teeth cleaned. The dentist is personable and doesn't push unnecessary products or services. The checkout process is easy. I look forward to attending Vacendak for years to come. read more

Dr. Shiela and Dr. Dan are simply the best. I had a couple of teeth extracted by Dr. Dan and literally didn't feel a thing throughout the procedure- hence the yelp review !! The practice is clean, well maintained and everyone that works there is friendly and professional. Let me start off by saying I'm terrified of going to the dentist. I had a traumatic experience before at another dentist and now I work myself into a panic attack just going in for a cleaning. My hygienist Kelly was incredibly kind and patient when I explained to her how nervous I was. Dr. Vacendak was also wonderful. I've been twice now and both times have been pain free, east, quick visits. Their office staff is also wonderful. Sheila Vacendak is a wonderful dentist. This location may be small but it sure is mighty. They have state of the art technology that I've never seen in a dentist office before, but also have a very hometown touch in their level of interaction and customer service. Scheduling the appointment with Terry was quick and simple, I appreciate that they informed me that all the forms I needed to complete were online (anything to speed up wait times). The dental assistant Taylor was so friendly and nice to talk to. You can get a cleaning anywhere but here they are truly concerned about your overall dental health and took steps to do a oral cancer and periodontal disease check before even starting the cleaning. I have never had an issue with the procedures here. As a matter of fact, procedural wise.. this practice is fantastic. However, my issue lies in being charged for a night guard adjustment and not being explained beforehand that I was going to be charged and for how much. I see on the itemized receipt in the mail they billed the issuance $100 for a night guard adjustment (3 minute adjustment) which insurance did not cover and then as result I'm being billed $45 for it. The receptionist could not explain this and I am still confused on how this is billed. What seems to me is the dentist billed the insurance company for $100 and when they couldn't get it, they charge the customer $45 for the adjustment which is outrageous. If you are gonna charge me, communicate that to the customer beforehand so I can have the option to not move forward with it. This to me is bad business through and through. read more

Best dental visit ever! Beautiful, clean, comfortable office. Front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. Dental chair was comfy and soft and had heating and massage controlled by me. Dr. Patricia was knowledgeable and gentle as was her assistant, Sheryl (not sure of her spelling). Dr. Patricia kept me informed every step of the procedure. The following day I received a text from Dr. Patricia asking how I was doing and encouraging me to contact the office if I had any issues or pain. Who does that? For the first time in my life I look forward to my next dental visit and I am happy it will be at Dr, Vacendak's dental office. read more

The BEST dentist ever. They've got massage chairs that can be heated for you, they offer you a blanket and pillow, and they have freakin TVs above the beds with Netflix and they offer Bluetooth headphones! If it weren't for the tooth drilling it'd be like a spa haha. They're very nice and understanding of dental anxiety. I have bad anxiety but the staff was all pretty gentle. I first found Dr Vacendak after I broke a tooth and then found out my dentist had just retired. I saw Dr Vacendak had great reviews so I gave the office a call. They were able to get me in very quickly and provide top notch service. The entire staff was so friendly and helped me feel very comfortable. The chairs with heat and massage are fantastic and the blanket helped keep me warm. I walked out with my new crown and it was honestly such a great experience. Dr Vacendak is very kind, patient, and answers all my questions. One thing that stood out to me is how complimentary and kind he is to his employees. This is a really nice facility, seems like everything is very new as far as equipment and furniture. The receptionist Ms. Terry is very nice and makes sure to email you everything in advance so you dont have to wait to be seen. Dr. Daniel has cleaned my teeth and also removed one of my teeth, he is very personable and compassionate. On your first visit they give you a nice goodie bag with a really nice water cup with a lid, its the small touches that stick with me! Not so bad as dentinst offices go. I was able to get a checkup appointment pretty quick but for a teeth cleaning appointment which the dentist said that I needed would take another 5 months at the earliest. I do not know if this is normal in post-Covid19 world or not. The staff here was amazing though! I use to have an awful bad gag reflex when it came to mouth x-rays bit the x-Ray tech helped with that so much and it wasn't as awful as it had been for me in the past. After looking for a dentist able to work with my mother who has dementia, I set up a visit with Dr. Shelia based on a recommendation from my mother's primary care physician. Best decision ever. It can be extremely frustrating working with someone who has no short term memory. Previous dentists were NOT equipped to handle it and came off as rude and irritated. Dr. Shelia is trained in geriatric dentistry. She is amazingly kind, patient and caring. Her staff are all friendly, calm and gentle. My mother was treated like a queen. She got a blanket, and a pillow. Everything was explained as often as needed. Dr. Shelia can read signs of confusion or restlessness in the patient. She understands that each individual has their own limits and tolerance. She knows when we need to stop and try again later, but is never upset or irritated by it. After my first visit with mom I was sold and never looked back. Now I go there and my daughter does too. She is just as good with children as she is senior citizens! The office has a wonderful zen-like calmness. There are not 10 dentists and 20 patients all over the place. It is just Dr. Shelia and her son, Daniel. The focus is completely on you. read more

This is a new family run dental practice, in Chesapeake. I went in to get a bite guard fitted and made, and they were very good at getting it exactly perfect. Unlike other dental practices who see you and try to kick you out as fast as possible, just to see more patients; they are a very friendly who get to know their patients, which says a lot about the practice and staff. I live all the way in Washington DC and I prefer to have them as my dentists, whenever I can make it down. With that said, they were willing to work with my schedule. They can contact via e-mail or phone, so I use e-mail since it's easier for me. I've been seeing Dr. S. Vacendak since I was a kid and I'm now in my early 30s. And I like how Dr. D. tells his patients, "I want you to be extremely picky with me." which tells me they are concerned about patient needs and comfort. I'm so glad they have their own practice now. With all brand new and modern dental equipment and tools, and an experienced and friendly staff.. I see them giving some of other dental practices in Tidewater a run for their money. Daniel Vacendak is a great dentist. He recommended a treatment plan for me that helped avoid an expensive root canal and all the pain of that. His recommendation was the most conservative option, and ended up being the best option for me. Best of all it saved me a bunch of money! It all worked out great! I learned my lesson to make sure I floss every night! Plus they have great chairs and TVs with netflix on them, and all new equipment. It's such a new new and clean facility, I can't recommend this office enough and have told all my friends. read more

As Dentists, they are great. Billing on the other hand is a problem. 3 of the 4 procedures were quoted wrong. I needed to know how much these procedures were going to be; which is why I needed a quote. Then I get an unexpected bill in the mail for additional $120; and they refuse to honor the quote. I was told the insurance changed payment amounts etc., but that to me is not the customers problem. Does a quote not mean anything? Never in the decades I have been going to the dentist; have I ever got a bill for more money. They would not forgive nor reduce the bill. So I paid it; and they lost 1 customer, plus any I would have sent there. They received about $700 out of my pocket, plus what insurance paid them. As I always say, was this additional $120 worth losing a customer over? This whole billing issue changed what would have been a 5 star rating to 2. ( I would have gave 3 stars due to this, but Yelps 3star = A-OK rating, and that is not how I feel about it). Sorry it didn't work out. Maybe others will have better luck. The days of Doctors/Dentists, whomever, of performing procedures/work at a quoted price, then sending bills for more money are no longer acceptable. read more

Best dentist and staff I have been to in my life. I had all my work done in one day and the DR did it for less than my other estimates given. But wait, I got to watch Netflix and a heated massage in the new chair while I was doped up!!!!!, what a great idea. Got one molar extracted and another crown removed, refurbished and recemented on to save me another 400 bucks! I actually enjoyed the experience except the drill used to get my tooth out was loud (but painless, interfered with the entertainment LOL). I have never given any Dentist or their staff a 5 star rating but Drs Vacendak were GREAT. I will come back from Washington DC in my travels to get ALL my dental work done, here as well as my wife. You just have to leave early to find this office, it is not on any GPS (too new) and the sign is not on the street. You will know what i mean when you go a looking but do not give up, you will be glad you persisted and paid this office a visit. read more
