The service was quick and the vibes were cheery and bright. Their matcha lattes are shockingly good - they're lightly sweetened and the matcha is likely pre-mixed for iced lattes but I'm a big fan because it means the matcha is evenly mixed rather than just settling at the bottom. The cold brew was bright and fresh, and our friends who got bloody marys were also very happy - especially since you can take the cocktails to go.

I'm also a big fan of pan dulce, a generic term to describe pastries and "sweet breads". I was delighted to discover, when I bought a second home in Edwards, CO, a Panaderia right in the middle of town. Unlike most areas in the Vail Valley, there is a sizable (at least as a percentage of the town's population) Latinx population in Edwards. Panaderia Azteca eluded me for several months until a neighbor raved about their capriotada, a sort of Mexican-style bread pudding. I love flan and pastel tres leches, but had never even HEARD of capriotada before. Several times after my friend raved about this bakery, I tried, but failed to find any capriotada. I discovered on my fifth try that they bake a limited amount of capriotada early in the morning and sell out later in the morning. Eventually, I'll get down to Panaderia Azteca in the morning before they sell out, but in the mean time, I've enjoyed the most delicious bolios (with cream cheese and plain), powdered-sugar wedding cookies, and pina-filled empanadas imaginable. There are tons of other varieties I haven't tried yet, but my goal is to experience the capriotada one morning when it's still warm! Can't wait. So far, the bolios (dinner rolls) are my favorite, but the empanadas and wedding cookies are as good as they get!

Walking through the door we stepped into heaven. So many wonderful smells filling the air, beautiful multicolored pastries everywhere, and behind the counter the owner working his craft beside a giant pile of sweet dough. We were mesmerized watching him skillfully transform small balls of dough into beautiful works of art. He shared with us the story of his parents passing on and his journey to honor them through his baking. To say his food is made with love would be understating things. We tried many different pastries and breads, all of which brought huge smiles to our children's faces. I recommend this spot to anyone. This unplanned pit stop became a highlight of our trip.

A side of fruit can be pretty hit or miss when you substitute it at brunch, so I was pleasantly surprised. The eggs were cooked right, and the toast was fine. I opted for turkey bacon, though, and I'd recommend skipping it. It was pretty crispy and lacked much flavor. The standout was the cinnamon roll French toast. We ordered it to share with the table, and I highly recommend doing the same. It comes with two large cinnamon rolls that are soaked in egg batter and grilled French-toast style. It was top tier. I noticed several tables around us sharing the regular cinnamon roll as well, and those looked fantastic too. They also have a bakery counter inside with plenty of grab-and-go options. The pastries all looked great, along with fresh bread, cookies, and other sweet treats. If you're visiting Frisco and looking for brunch, Butterhorn is definitely worth a stop.
