Our family is so thankful to have found Vallejo Parent Nursery School (VPNS). The teachers and directors are amazing: warm, welcoming, kind, tolerant, nonjudgmental, accepting, nurturing... they genuinely care about and enjoy what they do, and it shows! The days are filled with play, play, and more play - but it's through play that our child has grown and blossomed beyond belief. Her confidence, independence, and social skills are outstanding and we thank VPNS for that. We love the opportunity to be involved in our child's school experience if we choose; even as a professional educator myself, I've picked up countless techniques from participating alongside school staff that have helped our child and family thrive. As i walked in seeing a child pooping on a toilet and they do not assist with cleaning the child up. So she sat there.. my thoughts are she will have to have a dirty bottom until she gets home. Since they do not help them. Along with there is no dividers in the bathroom toilets are right next to each other watching each other use the bathroom. I understand children don't see anything wrong. But they should be treated with respect and given space as well! That isn't treating them anything like that, having them allnout there like that isn't right. Also when my child was there he wasn't encouraged to join the group. He was left playing alone in a corner, this isn't why I brought him here and paid the high cost $$ just for him to do something he does at home. I brought him here to learn to be around other children is age. Learn to share and be part of a team. To help build confidence and build real friendship. My son is about to "graduate" from VPNS, and I can honestly say the last two years have been incredible for both of us. He has grown in so many ways and truly LOVES coming everyday! I have found great joy meeting and working with both the staff and the other parents in this co-op environment. I am sad to have to move on to the next phase but my son will start kindergarten with a positive outlook on school. read more

Last year when I was searching for a preschool for my almost 4 year old, I scanned the inter web looking for the preschool that fit our needs. I toured a few other preschools in the area, but once we toured VPNS we knew it was the one. The director, Sarah, was warm and welcoming. The classrooms were big, open, and inviting with beautiful kid art on the walls and plenty of age appropriate toys and books. All the toys were being sanitized. I am writing this review now as a VPNS parent. We love that it's a play-based school. My child enjoys being there which is just how I wanted his first experience with a classroom to be. Teacher Sharika is caring and responsive. All the teachers are, really. The teacher student ratio is low and my kid is always learning new things. Overall, I am highly satisfied with our experience and we couldn't recommend it more. We wish we could stay but he's Kinder ready. read more

If you are looking to raise your child with a deep sense of community and responsibility, your family belongs at Vallejo Parent Nursery School. I can't imagine a better environment in Vallejo or any place else. When I brought my 8 year old to VPNS for the first time in 2011, they gave him the opportunity to experience a day in the life of their students, treated us like family and had answers to every question I could throw at them. At the time, I was trying to find the right fit for a non-verbal ball of pure, uncontrollable energy. They were not deterred and made every concession possible to accommodate my child. He spent 3 months at VPNS before the director, Joanne Souvercase, sat me down to discuss his development. I knew that he was delayed in his communicative language, but without a diagnosis VCUSD wouldn't take my calls about speech or occupational therapy. Joanne, along with Celeste Neumann, the most amazing teacher I have ever met, contacted the school district on my behalf and advocated for my son far beyond their personal duty. Because of their guidance, I was able to have my son diagnosed (with Autism) and enrolled in the VCUSD special education program. Celeste encouraged me every step of the way, offering advice when asked, support through my discouragement and praise at each of my many wins. Three years later, when the time came to enroll my younger son, I knew that VPNS was the only option worth considering. He entered Celeste's classroom at 2 years 9 months old and was as nervous as any toddler who had never left Mommy before. Though Celeste expertly handled the separation anxiety (of both mother AND son), I was extremely thankful that I was allowed to be in the classroom as often as I wanted, not just on my assigned work days. He started going 2 days a week and we increased to three days that first year. The following year, he felt like a pro. He return to Teacher Celeste a confident preschooler with friends throughout the school. We started him attending three days a week, then increased to five and finally settled on four days. I would never have been able to afford that much instruction as a stay-at-home mom if I hadn't been so involved. I was in the classroom once a week as the room mom, and watching my son bloom was one of the most fulfilling times of my life. The school became our second home and we came to learn that many of the families had multiple generations of alumni. My son returned for a third year and had Teacher Candi who prepared him for the parts of kindergarten that many people don't think about. He learned to count and write, stand in line, wash his hands and follow many step directions... but most importantly, he learned social and emotional skills that are lacking in society these days. At VPNS, my son learned to seek out the lonely kids and make them feel better. He learned what it feels like to grow up in a village of loving, involved, educated people who want nothing but the best for each other and will work hard to make that happen. Because of Teacher Candi, my son started kindergarten without a look back to see if I'd stay. He knew that he was ready without a shadow of a doubt. Because of VPNS and their play based learning model, my son LOVES school. I can't possibly recommend Vallejo Parent Nursery School any higher. read more

My daughter has loved her year with Teacher Chiu at VPNS, and the quality of the program is excellent. That said, the VPNS program is designed almost exclusively for families with stay-at-home parents. Working parents, especially single parents, should find a program that is more open to diverse family situations. Below are the primary reasons why I believe this is the case: 1. The co-op parents never show up for their shifts on time, so the school invariably opens late. This causes commute chaos for working parents, since VPNS does not offer any before or after school programs. 2. Unlike most other preschools in Vallejo, which take federal holidays and breaks into consideration when pricing, VPNS charges full monthly tuition regardless of how often they are closed. For example, their spring break is two weeks long, and during that time you will have to pay VPNS for a full 4-week month, while also paying a daycare provider for the two weeks they are closed. I know exactly *zero* single parents who can afford to pay for daycare twice. 3. Non-CoOp parents pay increased tuition which works out to $200/month more than programs like Teacher Kay's Alphapals, and double that of Starting Gate. Due to the time commitment, it is nearly impossible to work full time 9-5 and be a CoOp parent. This creates a situation where single parents are hugely impacted by both increased Non-CoOp tuition and predatory holiday pricing practices. read more

I am a bit late writing this review! This was the best experience I could have imagined for my twins. Joanna and the staff are OUTSTANDING! My son didn't want to turn 5 , because that meant leaving VPNS :( The school not only nurtures the children, but does an amazing job in supporting parents in ever aspect! VPNS is honestly the best preschool around. I love the fact that it is a co-op, so if you want reasonable tuition, you have to volunteer. My son graduated from there this June, and I will definitely miss them all. The teachers are friendly, the place is clean, the snacks are healthy, and the activities are fun. The only thing I would have to complain about it that they don't offer coffee to the parents while they are working. Lol. I have recommended it to my friends, and will keep telling everyone I can about it. I wish our public school programs were run like this place is. read more

My son attended VPNS for preschool. He left confident, loved, creatively fulfilled and still speaks about visiting all the staff and teachers. He was in a safe, professional, environmentally conscious, diverse community, that reflected the best in Vallejo. This place has been around since forever. The parents were supportive, intelligent, kind and innovators too. I still wish there was an elementary school in Vallejo where he could attend that is similar to VPNS. Recently looking into first grade schools I realize that my son had it so good here, they were always supportive of his unique personality, he wears dresses, and this was not at all an issue for them. A true gem in Vallejo and throughout the Bay Area. Keep in mind this is a co-op so you have meetings to attend and hours to do. But oh so worth it! read more

VPNS is a wonderful preschool. They have great teachers that care a lot about the children and help them practice good habits to prepare them for kindergarten. My daughter is 4 years old and started going here in Oct. 2010. After searching and researching preschool after preschool my mother ran into a family member whos children go here and she recommended it us. If only I knew about this place before I would have started her here as young as 2! It's a co-op preschool so tuition is very reasonable and parents are very much involved. VPNS is pretty much like a family. You fall in love with all the children and staff because you volunteer and spend just as much time there as your children do. It's been a joy to watch my daughter grow up here and learn. I'd definitely recommend this school to any and every one. read more

this is absolutely the best preschool in vallejo/benicia! The teachers are very caring and you can tell they genuinely love the kiddos! Everything is so well thought out...from day to day activities, fieldtrips to even the nutrious snacks they receive. My son learned so much in just one year...i cant wait till he starts pre-kindegarten here! I highly recommend this preschool.....and I am really picky when it comes to schools! read more

Vallejo Parent Nursery School is a Co-op Preschool. My son has been attending the school since Feb. 2009 He will be graduating this June, Then in the fall my other son will be joining. I absolutely love the staff. I love the way the school operates. It is a very pleasant environment. I love that I get to volunteer and be a part of the whole experience with my son and see how his learning is progressing. He has learned so much there. The have a very organized curriculum, and most of all you know that they genuinely care about your child, I highly recommend this Pre-school to anyone that wants a place full of wonderful people that you can trust, and an evironment where kids love to go and learn! read more

If you are looking for a family oriented community that truly cares about their students, VPNS is for you! Being new to Vallejo, it was a challenge finding the right preschool for my daughter, especially since I was not familiar with the area and didn't have any personal referrals. I called VPNS and Sara helped me right away. I toured VPNS and signed her up the same day! Sara and Joanne are very welcoming and were honest and open with all of my questions. All of the teachers at VPNS are great, especially Teacher Kelley! I love how involved all of the parents are in the classroom and during the fundraiser events. Everyone works together to make VPNS a clean, fun and creative learning environment for the kids. My daughter graduated in June 2018 and VPNS has prepared her very well for Kindergarten. My son will be attending VPNS once he reaches the appropriate age (including being potty trained). Thank you VPNS for creating a fun and positive learning environment for the kids! read more
