The 18-hole "Alpine" course at the Alpine Country Club facility in Cranston, Rhode Island features 6,715 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 72.5 and it has a slope rating of 124 on Bent grass. Designed by Geoffrey S. Cornish, ASGCA, the Alpine golf course opened in 1960. Ed Kirby, the pro, is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Full of stories, the guy can "flat out play." He can also teach and is very generous with his time. He reached the final cut in the U.S. Open in 1987, 1989 and 1993. He then qualified for the U.S. PGA Tour in 1994 and played on the Asian PGA and the South African PGA Tours. Yeah, he has street cred. The course is ALWAYS in pristine condition. There are no quirky or as Rhode Islanders say "gaff" holes. Challenging but fair and you will undoubtedly play all 14 sticks in your bag. There is a very nice, large driving range where you hit off grass. (I hate going to a place where they have mats - uggh!). A large putting green is also available. Locker room facilites are large and very nice as well. This private course is one to get out and play if you get the chance. Tournaments, invitations, whatever. Make it happen. The course is a gem and the food at The Alpine is legendary. Alpine CC is a nice private course. The greens are always quick, the layout is challenging enough, and they have yardage markers throughout which makes it a lot of fun to play. The course conditions weren't as pristine as last year, but it was still in nice shape. I play here once a year and I always look forward to it...they also serve some pretty incredible grilled pizza. Now here comes the million-dollar question - would I want to become a member? I would say no as it's readily apparent that they cater towards a certain nationality which is their prerogative, but it makes a Polish guy like me feel like an outsider. read more

Had dinner here last Saturday. Great dinner for two options which include appetizer for two, two entrees, two salads, and one dessert, With a bottle of house wine. All for$65! I had the osso bucco my husband had steak, we shared the calamari and the cheesecake. Everything was delicious, including the house Cabernet. read more

I booked the Alpine for both my ceremony and reception -- their venue is beautiful and I was so excited to get married here. They offer basically a full service with the option to upgrade items like linens, or go through a vendor to rend different chairs. The only thing I took them up on was long tablecloths, everything else looked good the way it was. They have a wedding coordinator on site who is incredibly helpful and helps you with anything you need -- building a menu, finding vendors for cake, makeup, etc., or even making special requests. Overall, the day went incredibly well. The ceremony went without a hitch and it really is a beautiful outside location. I would warn people wearing heels that if you're standing with the bride and groom, though, there are gaps in the stones that you can easily sink into, so be careful! I had to find a place to stand and not move so I didn't trip over a gap. For the cocktail hour and reception, everything was put together and in terms of display and setup, everything was perfect. The food was DELICIOUS and everything went smoothly. The only negative comment I have is that my special requests for food seemed to be lost. I asked that vegetarians had fruit cups instead of chicken escarole soup -- but, they were served the soup and not the fruit cups, even though I saw the fruit cups ready to be served. It seems that there wasn't much coordination between the wedding coordinator, who knew all of my special requests, and the serving staff, who simply didn't deliver. Some people received the wrong meal, and like I said, I feel like none of my special requests were honored. Not a huge thing in the scheme of things, but I wish that all the time I took to make sure my guests were perfectly happy had panned out. However, everyone told me they had a good time and nobody outright complained. Like I said, it went smoothly overall -- dinner service just wasn't what I wanted it to be. read more

I went here to chaperone a high school prom, because I'm basically the coolest person of all time. The prom was classy, efficient, and entertaining for students and faculty. The staff of the country club were polite and attentive in greeting us, making sure dinner came out on time (which was difficult, considering it was not buffet-style), and serving up the best Shirley Temples around. I almost forgot I wanted an adult beverage. As for the space itself, the ballroom is lovely. There's a chandelier, hardwoods, and a stage. We managed to fit a photo booth and a candy bar for the students in here and still have room for everyone. It's not huge, though, so if you're looking to have a very large wedding, this is probably not the place. Looking at both the exterior, as students were arriving in limos and their parents' cars (swag!) and photos of the club from the website, I think if we were to hold the prom here next year (which I would recommend), we might think about doing it outside. The horticulture is absolutely gorgeous, and I wish students had more of a chance to spend time in it. I would advise the same for a wedding, if the weather permits! read more

Had my September 1st wedding at Alpine Country Club. We got off to a rocky start with the event coordinators having changed hands a couple times since we had originally booked, but once Shawna came on everything was great. My husband was deployed during part of the process so Shawna went out of her way to have a private tasting for us when he finally came home. It was so nice that he was able to be part of the process and feel so included. Shawna was also really knowledgeable in our request for a fallen soldier tribute table. She knew exactly how the table was too be set which was really nice to know since it meant so much to us. She was very meticulous on the details and made sure everything was prepared and in line with our requests. She worked around our crazy schedules and was very easy to get in contact with when we had questions. On that day Shawna was personally there for all of the important events to make sure everything went according to plan. The weather was beautiful which definitely helped too. She even escorted my husband and I out to the middle of the golf course with our photographer for some more beautiful photos on their property. During cocktail hour I had escaped to the bridal room as I wasn't feeling too well. Shawna personally sat with me for a bit, brought me ginger ale and has the wait staff bring in all of my appetizers so I didn't miss out on anything. She kept us on schedule and worked closely with the DJ to keep the traditional pieces of the night rolling right along. The venue itself was very open and accommodating to our guests - the ballroom recently had all new sheers and drapery which was beautiful and made for amazing photos. The bar was large enough for my guests and the bartenders were working so hard that my guests never had to wait for their drinks. Overall the venue was well kept and maintained. We chose to have our ceremony onsite - the only downside tot he garden ceremony is it is right near the parking lot so someone's car alarm interrupted my husband's vows which was a bummer and a lot of our photos have cars in the background, but we knew that was going to happen. Bonnie was our lead waitress for the night, making sure my husband and I had everything we needed. She was such a wonderful person and I just loved talking with her. The food...absolutely incredible!! Matt, the head chef, is definitely amazing at what he does developing the menu and working with his back of the house team to ensure the standards are high. The food was so delicious and the portions are not typical wedding portions, but instead a nice full meal. You definitely get what you are paying for with the plated meals. In addition, we did the ice cream sundae bar (which they were happy to accommodate our flavor requests) and late night snacks which our guests loved. Overall we are so happy we chose Alpine Country Club for our venue. Shawna, Bonnie and their team were absolutely wonderful and so accommodating to our needs and requests. If you are getting married in the near future the Alpine Country Club is the place to go. I've been a Rhode Islander my entire life and while wedding planning I stumbled across the Alpine Country Club during a venue search. Alpine was our 3rd and final venue option and after we met with their events coordinator we were sold. The ballroom is absolutely stunning. A large crystal chandelier is centered above the room with beautiful hard wood floors. The dance floor is down the center of the room and the tables surround the perimeter, which was very important to us as we wanted the dance floor to be the focal point. For weddings they take white toule entwined with white lights and drag to each corner of the room to create a most romantic look and feel. The staff is extremely attentive, responsive, professional and made our entire day and experience stress free. When anyone asks about my wedding day I say it was the greatest day of my life filled with no stress whatsoever, and I can thank the Alpine and the Alpine staff for that. I for one have been a member for over 30 years and guess what,I AM full blooded IRISH..We have many members who are of different nationalities. We love everyone so come on up get a membership. This is a review for the country club as a venue for a party, not for their golf or other membership amenities. I attended a holiday party here with my wife in December. Apparently her company has used this venue for the past several years. The areas that we were in, mainly the bar and the main ballroom/dining room, were nice, but nothing overly special, i.e. nothing I haven't seen in other venues that host functions of this sort. The bar area has a large oval bar in the middle of the space, which gave it lots of surface area for revelers to approach and order drinks. They had maybe 4 bartenders working it for probably 350 or so guests, not all of whom were mobbing the bar for drinks. The bartenders were attentive and were working their tails off trying to serve everyone, so kudos to them, but, as is usually the case in these kinds of events, they probably could have used one or two more people helping out back there. Appetizers, primarily anti-pasta type things, were served buffet style and were good. Dinner was served in the ballroom, which was a nice, large, well-lit area. Here's where I have to deduct stars: they had two custom pasta stations, and one carving station, and they called up tables one at a time to go to the serving stations. Now, I'm sure they are probably more expert than I at timing these things, and I do appreciate the idea of fresh, custom made pasta, but the lines were horrendous at all three stations. They probably could have done something, either have more stations, or time when they called tables up better, to ease the congestion at each place, at least on the initial rush. Because of the lines, I only hit up the carving station, while my wife went for the pasta. I had a decent cut of prime rib and a slice or two of pork tenderloin, and the sides were roasted potato dish and some kind of sweet potato/regular potato matchstick sautee. The meats were ok, about all one could expect from a place serving 350 people, but the sides were not good at all, cool and somewhat soggy. As I said, I didn't have the pasta. So, would I go back? If there was another party there to which I was invited, sure. Would I want to host a large party there myself? Probably not. It just didn't do anything to lift itself above any of the other myriad venues that are available. I'd love to give them 2.5 stars, but since I can't, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up. read more

I've been here on multiple occasions for faculty retreat and I've been thoroughly impressed by the establishment and attentiveness of the staff during our parties. I've never gone outside to enjoy the country club, but the inside decorations are always well maintained and the rooms spacious. read more

Went there for school banquet with my daughter. Very disorganized. Had wrong number of chairs/place settings at our table. I missed salad and pasta course due to lack of plate/silverware (they brought the plate after they removed the salad and pasta...then removed clean, unused plate 15min later). Dinner supposed to start 6-6:30. Kids at our table finally got their actual meal at 8:30. I actually got served a plate of food at 8:15, but never got any silverware or place setting, so i could not eat. Wait staff did not refill water glasses until 8:45pm. We left at 9 after my daughter ate 1/3 of her cold, obviously poor quality chicken fingers. Would never recommend or return to eat at this place. Even the facilities to allow kids to dance were minuscule. In a word: craptacular. read more

Alpine used to 'The' place for a wedding in RI but that has certainly changed. We attended a wedding at Alpine last evening and were very disappointed and surprised at the service. During the cocktail hour we had to bus our own plates and glasses so we hvad room on the table for more drinks. Most of the servers passing appetizers were personable but not very well dressed. They wore all black with open collars but some looked like they slept in their clothes because theey were completely wrinkled. The first two courses were served closely then we waited ~35-40 minutes for dinner. To start we had small glasses of water which were never refilled so we we out by the first course. The shock came when dinner was finally served and instead of the servers carrying the trays with the main course, someone in shorts came into the ballroom with the trays. It got worse when the servers took off the metal warmers and laid them on the floor. They forgot to serve a person at one of the tables and had to be hailed to get them to come back and finish serving. It is clear that service at Alpine is at an all time low when they aren't paying attention to these kinds of details. This is what would set them apart. The servers were very nice but clearly not well trained. The soup and pasta courses were good as was the beef dinner selection. The chicken Francaise was truly a disappointment. I hope this turns around quickly as it was always a treat to attend an event at Alpine. read more

We had our wedding reception at Alpine on 7/18/15 and it was the best night EVER! Leading up to the wedding, Amanda, our wedding coordinator, was super helpful, timely in her e-mail responses and willing to help in any way that we needed her, which streamlined our wedding planning. It also helps that she is unfailingly professional, kind and generous. On the day of the wedding, she added personal touches to our bridal suite and make sure that our reception hall looked flawless! We even forgot to indicate that we had a table #17, but she handled our error like a pro and made sure our guests were taken care of quickly and efficiently. Better than that, she made sure not to tell us that that had happened (we heard about it from our parents, lol), but it was already taken care of by then. Jared, who took over for Amanda later on in the evening, was also super professional and kind to us. He catered to our every need and always had a smile on his face. The food was fantastic (the guests were raving), the venue was breath taking (everyone kept talking about how pretty the ballroom was) and the grounds for pictures were completely perfect. It was the BEST DAY EVER and I am SO GLAD that we chose to have our reception at Alpine. When you book your reception there, make sure you take the golf cart to the bridge for pictures. It was a special and hilarious adventure! We had SUCH A BLAST!!! read more

I was at a wedding on Nov 5 2016. Cocktail hour was terrible.There was a dark haired man yelling "Come on!! What can I get you" he wouldn't even make eye contact with anyone.There was also a women who had forested long hair she had the worst attitude with dirty looks she was giving everyone and very rude! Our wedding at Alpine Country Club was nothing short of a dream come true! We had bit of a rough start to our year and wanted to end things off on a more positive note. We thought what better way the n to get married on New Year's Eve! We were realistic with our expectations as we were booking with less than 5 months to go and our preferred date may not be available. I sent Amanda an email and set up a day to tour Alpine. When I had first contacted her, NYE was not available but other dates were still up for grabs. I toured the venue on day where my husband was out of town for work. I met Amanda who was so very sweet, kind, and friendly! She has such a bubbly personality that not only makes her so very easy to talk to but is contagious as well! She then informed me that last minute, NYE had opened up. We had a great first meeting where Amanda went over deposit schedules, meals, and preferred vendors should we decide to book. She was more than gracious to hold the New Year's Eve date for 2 weeks without a deposit so my husband could check it out once back in town. She also mentioned that should we book, any ceremony and room fees would be waived and we would only be responsible to hit a food minimum. As we were chatting about preferred vendors, I mentioned this photographer I had come across on The Knot. Sure enough not only was Kristen Conte on the preferred vendors list, she and her husband Tom had a fantastic working relationship with Amanda and offered more than just photography. This was the first and last venue I toured! I excitedly called my husband from the car, and he proceeded to tell me to cancel any other tours/meetings we had scheduled with other venues. Everything seemed to be falling into place perfectly! Amanda was amazing in the months leading up to the wedding. Always in constant communication via email or phone. She was always so prompt in responding. She has such a talent, it's almost surprising she doesn't have her own wedding planning business! She had the best suggestions when it came to food, décor, and the overall pace of the evening! For example when discussing décor for the ballroom she advised us that we really didn't need too much as the room would still be decorated for Christmas. We ended up having a 17 foot tall Christmas tree as the backdrop for our sweetheart table which made for stunning pictures! We had asked Amanda if it were possible to show the New Year's Eve ball dropping in the ballroom itself. I mentioned I could reach out to Conte Entertainment (we booked them for photography, photo booth, DJ, up lighting, and monogram) to see if together we could coordinate something. All I had to do was mention the idea to Amanda and she said she would take care of it and reach out to Tom and Kristen for us! Our guests were blown away when shortly before midnight, a projection screen was brought into the ballroom and we were able to all countdown to midnight and watch the ball drop! We decided to have our rehearsal dinner at Alpine as well since the food at the tasting was delicious and the service we were receiving had been impeccable! Our wedding party couldn't stop raving about the pasta and chicken parmesan and were looking forward to their meals at the wedding! Since our rehearsal dinner was the night before, we were able to see the ballroom as they were starting to set it up! It was pure excitement and a nice way to end off the evening! We cannot say enough amazing things Amanda and the Alpine staff. She took a vision we had and helped execute it to perfection! It's been about two months since our wedding and our friends and family still cannot stop talking about it! Amanda and staff truly understand that this day is such an important day and for many brides, a day they've been dreaming about for years. Her knowledge and expertise as well as her professionalism and true passion for her work truly shine through! We are seriously considering joining Alpine Country Club as members due to the phenomenal experience that was the most perfect night of our lives!
