Because of that, I usually don't even bother seeing doctors locally -- it's just too hard to find someone who actually cares. I've wanted LASIK for YEARS. But every single time I planned it... I was pregnant. ‍ Timing is everything, apparently. Before finally committing, I went to two consultations in San Diego -- one at LASIK MD (which is now closed) and another in La Jolla. Both quoted me around $5k-$6k. After doing what can only be described as FBI-level research (Reddit, reviews, forums, probably a conspiracy board or two), I discovered that one of the best LASIK doctors actually works out of the Valley a few days a month. Wait... what?! In this Valley? I went in for my free consultation with Patty, who was super helpful. She explained that the actual surgery is done in San Diego, but all the pre-op and post-op appointments can be done locally in the Valley. Honestly, that's a perfect setup. Let's be real: this is LASIK. If someone messes up even a little... you go blind. So saying I did "extensive research" is an understatement. I read horror stories, success stories, stories about people seeing halos, UFOs, their ex's red flags -- everything. Surgery day came and... zero wait. None. I was shocked. The procedure itself was painless and took maybe 3 minutes. I've had longer Starbucks orders. For context, I was considered legally blind before. I've worn glasses since I can remember. Now I have perfect vision and it still feels weird. I keep reaching for glasses that don't exist anymore. No more wiping oily fingerprints off my lenses thanks to my kids. No more foggy glasses. No more smudges. No more "where did I leave my glasses" panic at 6 AM. Huge shoutout to Dr. IP and his team. I never had to wait, the staff was amazing, and the entire process was smooth. Also... why don't they advertise this more?! This is honestly life-changing. Best part: No side effects. No pain. No dry eyes. No more astigmatism. No light sensitivity. I took a nap after surgery and about 4 hours later I could already see pretty clearly. The next day it was even sharper. Imagine waking up and just... seeing. No glasses. No contacts. The reason I waited for this appointment was based on my previous experience. I received outstanding treatment and Dr. Hamdy explained, in detail, the reason for my ailment. He did not rush through the explaination and provided me with a simple treatment plan to alleviate my sickness. The second time was more of the same outstanding service. Although my second trip was for a different ailment from the initial one the level of service and Dr. Hamdy's attention remained first-class. The entire staff was helpful, first-rate, and efficient. The person on the phone kept telling me to call "them" which was confusing because i didn't know who them was, who was she referring too??? We made an appointment but stopped in Costco early to get a few things-like anyone only gets a FEW things at Costco. We went by the optometry office and they had an opening immediately so took them. We filled out the form and were taken right away to do a couple tests. The doctor brought me in and the visit was quick. I brought up a problem I had with my last glasses that caused my eye to strain. He didn't really answer me. My husband went in and was also quick. [We weren't having the glaucoma test that day where they have to dilate your eyes so it was quicker than regular] We got our prescriptions and went out to the eye glass counter. Hubs had picked his glasses before so he went up to the counter first. I spoke to an associate who looked up my record and checked a few things on my last glasses and distance of my pupils. The measurements came out close enough to my last prescription (and new one too) so she had me talk to the doctor one more time to discuss the problem. He discussed it with me and said I shouldn't have a problem with the new one. So I ordered new glasses and they will come in in 5-7 days. They came in less than that and the glasses are absolutely PERFECT! The prescription is perfect and I have no more pulling on my left eye! I am so happy with my new prescription and glasses. I do recommend Guru Sharma for your optometry needs. He does a great job on testing your eyes. Just make sure you go over any questions you may have so you get all the answers.

I think my son is tongue tie and it has been affecting his nursing. I have an older son who had the same issue at birth. I am a stay at home mother of 5. Long story short my husband and myself have been going to San Diego for all prenatal care and hired a birth team of four midwives to come to our home, for a home birth. This was a personal informed medical choice we both decided upon. Paid out of pocket and also purchased private insurance specially for my prenatal care and our soon to be newborn. Anyhow baby is born happy and healthy but tongue tied. We decided to seek a pediatrician in town rather than drive to San Diego.... call this office on advice from a family friend. Immediately as I explained how I'd like to have my son examined and check to see if he is tongue tied and if he needs a snip like my older son...the receptionist asks how old baby is...I explain he's 1 day old. And that I have all paper work ultra sounds and birth record info on what he was given ect..then her tone switches and she asks when I was discharged from the hospital. I explaine how we had a home birth with a birth team of four midwives from San diego...the lady again gets almost snarky! "Oh i.dont think we see home birth patients, I'll need to give a message to the doctor and call you back. You can shop around with other pediatricians. I don't think we will see you. We do one week visit then two week visit and manditory vaccinations" aside from her snarky tone and note seeing home birth patients sounded like a great office...getting all the care and vaccinations here vs driving to sd.... This lady was extreemly judgmental sounding. As if she couldnt be bothered. She takes my number and calls me back shortly to inform me that just as she suspected this doctor does not see home birthed children. My jaw really did hit the floor. My husband and myself are two educated people, my family is extreemly active in the Brawley community...we earn our living pay extra out of pocket for a higher quality insurance on top of paying in full out of pocket for all medical care..including prenatal...heck we even drive 2.5 hours away because brawley and el centro are low in come cities making the quality of care lower than sd!!! To be told a practice didn't accept a home birthed child floored me. In fact disgusted me. I am all about the freedom of making informed medical choices...what kind of world is it when you can abort a baby but God forbid you birth that child at home. Also I'm sure this pediatrician accepts illegals who are on state funded medical insurance because that is how most lower income cities close to the boarder function. Really peeves me! Disappointed and disgusted that any practice would have such regulations. Looks like Suarez and Amani win again. Also not to debate home birth but USA has one of the highest csection rates and it's climbing..most other similar countries(such as uk, Australia ect) advise home birth for low risk mothers as well as the acog states this should be an option for families making informed medical decisions...and the largest four year homebirth Study was just published stating homebirth for low risk mothers is as safe as a hospital birth..there was no higher death or serious injury with home birth as there was in a hospital setting... Aside from my stance on home birth I really am shocked... does this pediatrician see illegals or are those other clients he won't see...what about same sex or no he doesn't take those either? PROS: - Caring, super nice doctor - Wonderful back office staff, mostly nice front office staff. - Comfortable waiting room. - Dr. does not over prescribe antibiotics, and will listen to your concerns and treat you with respect. CONS: - It's hard to get an appointment when the kids are sick. It's usually at least 4 days out. - Answering service is on almost every time I call in the morning (during open office hours), and they know NOTHING. The only thing they will tell you is that you can ask for a call back that will take forever or take your kid to the ER. - Long wait times. I have never had an appointment that took less than 1-2.5 hours - No separate waiting rooms for sick/well kids. During those wait times guess what your "well" kid is being exposed to. - The seating in the office is covered in a velvety cloth, and it grosses me out because it is obviously not wipe down-able. If you live in Brawley, you might be able to overlook some of these things. Personally, I am switching to a group with more doctors and separate waiting rooms so my kids can be seen in a reasonable amount of time without being contaminated by sick kids when they are well. I'll miss Dr. Buenaflor and his staff, but there is another well-liked choice closer to me.
