    Ahi Tuna

I came in to try their poke. I asked for Spicy Salmon but gave me spicy ahi tuna. Ahi Tuna was fresh, I called and pretty much said they can't do anything.

The market is full of healthy options, and has a pretty large selection. The REAL star for me here that I did not expect, was the lunch from the meat deli. I ordered the Bird Is The Word sandwich that comes with fries... fries are probably my favorite food (simple, I know) and these are some of the BEST fries I've had. They were double battered, crispy with just the perfect touch of softness in the middle, and seasoned well. The sandwich was incredible. Plenty of turkey slices, delicious bacon, avocado, and greens. I was full and satisfied. Paired it all with a kombucha and Carlsbad strawberries. Taking hubby here for a lunch date so he can enjoy with me! ETA: We tried the poke bowl and poke nachos today. UNREAL. The portions are PLENTY, and the poke tastes fresh.

BEST EVER tri-tip! It helps if it's Wagyu! Thank you so much Valley Farm for the amazing marinaded meat.

i ordered grilled fish tacos at the kitchen and when i opened it it was drenched in butter. they should put that in the description on the menu if it's such a big component of the dish or ask before pouring it all over cause it ruins the whole thing.

This business occupies the ground level of the building which houses The Collins Coastal Apartments. The folks who live in the Windansea neighborhood are fortunate to have a branch of Valley Farm Market open up in their midst. They carry a fair amount of products, but the main attractions were the butcher block and deli counter. A kitchen that serves some hot food was the reason for my visit. The menu had a selection of ten different sandwiches made to order which all come with seasoned french fries. I chose the Snake River Farms Brisket Sandwich. It consisted of slow smoked chopped brisket topped with BBQ sauce, beer battered onion rings, and provolone cheese on a brioche bun. It took the kitchen a little over 10 minutes to prepare my food. At $15, I would say the price was high, but the quality of the ingredients was good, especially the meat. The fries were nice and crispy. If you're local and live nearby, this is a fine option for some grocery shopping that doesn't involve one of the big box chains.

Very cool to learn that Valley Farm Market has expanded with this location in La Jolla. The store is not as large as the Spring Valley location I have been visiting since I was a young lad, but it certainly serves its purpose with quality items and small kitchen. There is no doubt the Butchery is the star here. They carry the same delicious 'Pollo Asado" at the meat counter, so that's a good thing, and they are making some tasty eats as well, like the burger I ordered from the kitchen. I had the VFM Burger for $9.99 which came with zesty fries. You can choose the type of patty you want for the same price. I went with the bacon & jalapeno burger patty. It's important to note that all the burger patties are ground and formed in house. I asked for the burger to be temped no more than medium. The burger patty was very flavorful. The burger comes on a toasted brioche bun, and served with a melee of ingredients, including their secret sauce spread, which is mighty tasty. The burger was cooked a tad over than I would of liked, but it was still quite juicy and flavorful. The brioche bun was good, but the bottom bun got pretty soggy quickly. They should but a layer of cheese on that bottom bun to protect it and on top of the patty as well. I'm just saying. By the way, the fries that came with the burger were excellent. They were very well seasoned and crisp. The meat counter was impressive, and the fruit and vegetable were small but pretty nice. I wish they offered seating inside and outside along the window, but apparently the City of San Diego called it no bueno, unless additional improvements to the building are made. As a result, there is no sitting. I ate on the curb outside. The people who work here are friendly and helpful.

My husband has stopped into Valley Farm Market a couple times to get fresh meat and lunch for us. We've enjoyed both the poke nachos and the brisket sandwich. We've also had the different poke offerings standalone and made our own poke bowls at home. The food from the deli counter is very fresh and really tasty. The guys at the deli/meat counter are also very friendly. I actually stopped in on Christmas day to get some fresh produce for a salad and was surprised they were open. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and welcomed into the store. They had a decent amount of organic veggies and even had some bagged salads available. They do offer packaged products as well like sauces, chips, etc., but they are a little pricier than here. Overall, Valley Farm is a great addition to the neighborhood and while the products may be a little bit more expensive, they are high quality. Note: Deli counter for sandwiches isn't available until after 11AM.

Farmers' markets bring me absolute joy and this is one of the very best we've been to! It's huge…read moreand spacious, organized and there were so many vendors around! From delicious food, to fresh produce, to the most gorgeous and vibrant flowers, to beautiful pottery, to unique clothes... you name it, they have it there! Make sure to come early as parking can be a bit tricky, especially if you want to park closer to the farmers' market. Once you get parked though, everything is a breeze. They even have tables and chairs around for people to eat at. There's also a playground for families who have little ones! I could never go to a farmers' market and leave without fresh flowers, so of course I had to pick up some from Hidalgo Flowers. They always have the most colorful and stunning arrangements, and for a decent price too. This time, I got a bunch with the prettiest sunflowers. We also picked up the sweetest and reddest strawberries from this one vendor. I highly regret not getting their name, but I will definitely be on the hunt for them the minute we go back. We got a cup of strawberries with some dark chocolate sauce from Strawberries and Chocolate. That was sooo good! We devoured it so quickly, we didn't even get to take a picture of it. One of the standouts for me was the Pork Sisig Rice from Baryo Eats. It was AHHHHMAZING!! It's the best kind of pork sisig that I love to eat--the taste was so good and nostalgic, it took me back to my college days back in the Philippines! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We also got some Paella from Driana Catering/Taste of Spain. It was so flavorful and the rice was cooked to perfection. We were just sad they ran out of shrimp by the time we got some, so we were left with chicken only. We got some goodies from It's Cafe Thai as well--Milk Tea with Boba, Taro Thai Coffee, and the Mango Sticky Rice. All of them had just the right amount of sweetness and hit the spot for us. Lastly, we had some of the watermelon and the cucumber lemonade refreshers, and the chicken and pork tamales from Gourmet Tamales. They were so good, we even took some home for later! Overall, I'm already looking forward to the next Sunday we can stop by this farmers' market!

Stars off for parking and crowds, but we lucked out on great parking and were on the way out when things were getting peak crazy. Now - all my treasures. There was a bread guy. Great breads. Focaccia. Banana bread. Sourdough. Looked beautiful, but unassuming. The deliciousness level - wow! Broccolini, squash, carrots, celery, onion. Then, the berries! Look and try. You'll know the ones you want. Oceanside? Carlsbad? I am on strike as of now and will be hard pressed to make due with a Driscolls berry. Oh - and this magical little orange. I should have bought 5 pounds. I drank fresh OJ while we were there. 11/10. I'm so happy that after an awesome vacation of vacation dates and treats we get to keep it going with some lighter meals. I made tuna salad with celery and onions. Well have grilled veg with dinner. Magical berries all day. The special grilled cheese with gruyere, honey, mustard and all the other little meals il weave my Ja Jolla open air marked finds - incredible. Then, all the things I didn't buy because they wouldn't have survived in the car. Salad. Flowers. Tomatoes. All beautiful.

At long last the UCSD Farmer's Market is back!…read more A few things have changed since its last iteration from before Covid. First, and most obvious is the location. Before, it was located at UCSD's Town Square, which I thought was pretty inaccessible for non-students. Now, it's located at the Epstein Family Amphitheatre, which is conveniently located next to the UCSD Central Campus Trolley Station and the Gilman Parking Structure. It's a really beautiful setup, with plenty of outdoor seating, whether you want to sit at the lawn, the various tables and chairs, or even the amphiteatre seating itself. There were a few vendors that have usually set up at the market, including House of Bao, Bubbas Hawaiian Snack Shack, Belinda's Familia, Seb Panini and a Sambusa place. I think it's a pretty good lineup, but I noticed the items are very expensive. Further, the selection outside of prepared foods was pretty lacking. There was a florist, but I think more fresh fruit and vegetable options (that accept EBT!) would have elevated the experience and helped with the food insecurity issues that plague college campuses. I ended up visiting Belinda's, where I was enticed by some free samples. I had a chorizo egg burrito, which I thought was really good and a deal for $10! Overall, I think the return of the farmer's market is a net positive for the community! I visited on re-opening day, so I think a couple more weeks will help iron out the selection and variety issues!

On a Sunday afternoon, it was $3 per person. For frequent shoppers and vendors, I think they have stamp cards, which is neat. We had to speed run this trip because we had plans later on in the day, but we saw there was a swap meet across the street from the Brazilian restaurant that we were getting brunch at and nothing prepared us for how MASSIVE it is. I grew up going to swap meets, with one down the street for me, but this is hands down the BIGGEST one that I've been to. So big that my friends and I got split up immediately and it was somewhat difficult to find each other and leave towards the end since there's just rows and rows and aisles and aisles each and which way you turn with some dead ends here and there. There's food vendors and of course, lots of trinket, electronics, thrifted, home goods, and so much more. There's plants, fresh fruit, nuts, a neat little accordion (not sure what it's called but it's antique looking and little mechanical bits and pieces to it) that a performer had, jewelry, toys, video games, unique artwork, school supplies, clothes, etc. Before entering, we saw a vendor selling 6 pieces of clothing for $10. Friend got a bunch of accessories and jewelry for under $20. I got a cool 2 headed T-rex for $2. Some cool things were vintage Beanie Babies and the Panda Express restaurant signs? I would love to come back here and thoroughly parse through everything. Get there early in the morning and then spend hours here.
