Choosing a bank or credit union is hard. You want an institution that you trust with your money and a place that you feel like your business is appreciated. We started banking with Valley First when they were located on Geer Road. There seemed to be a high turnover as there were always new tellers. I must also say that while we usually were able to get our questions answered, there were a few situations that made us strongly consider taking our business elsewhere. They have since moved to a new location with new employees who seem to be more permanent. The new location is also much larger with more parking which is a plus. The first time we entered the building, we were immediately greeted by one of the employees and asked if we needed assistance, which we did. We were promptly taken to one of the cubicles to discuss our financial business. The employee was extremely pleasant and professional. Our questions were answered and were able to leave feeling confident about the outcome. A few days later we received a follow up phone call to give us an update and let us know the situation had been taken care of. Every additional time we have returned, we have had similar experiences with great service. We are very happy that we decided to stay with Valley First Credit Union for our banking needs. read more

This bank has got to be absolute worst bank I have ever had the misfortune of using. If you're going to be so bold to remove face to face interaction with bakers, that's fine, but at the very least the new system must be as good or better then previous system. The atm here is freaking joke, I've seen McDonald self checkouts work better than this so called bank. To whichever executive moron that thought doing this would save the corporation money, how would members leaving in groups do to the yearly revenue? Because that's exactly what I'm doing. Absolutely the worst customer service ever! Talked with branch manager via the phone after spending an hour dealing with their call center... (problem not resolved by the call center). The manager was rude, argumentative, and wasn't willing at all to resolve my dispute. He left me with the impression that my balances in my accounts were not high enough for me to be a customer he wanted to help. Their ATM and other equipment (card PIN machine) are nearly always broken or otherwise in disrepair. As a business, they sunk thousands into remodeling their main branch and corporate offices, but this branch look like it was last remodeled 20 years ago. The other predominant issue with this branch is that their staff is constantly changing. I used to love this credit union, but in the last 18 months it has become as bad, if not worse, than the big banks. UPDATE: On Thursday (8/3) I was in the branch and they we directing people to the credit union across the street because their ATM machine was broken (again). The teller told me that it breaks down every week now. We are in the process of moving our accounts to the credit union across the street. And today (8/7) we visit Valley First only to find the ATM machine broken yet again. read more

AMAZING service!!! I've only been once to use the self checkout atm, but this time i walked in to use the live atm and both of the bank clerks were super helpful and professional while staying personable!! They answered all my questions, gave me what I needed and I left with a smile on my face even though I've been dealing with a killer migraine all day. My husband and I were looking to refinance our car because our interest rate was super high, like ridiculously high so we went in to the Turlock location to ask for refinancing and in no time we were approved. I can say that the managers were so attentive which exceeded our previous experiences from other banks. Can't say but good things about this location. Long story short we went back to apply for a personal loan and we were able to. Marco and Tania are awesome to work with and I can only say that my expectations with Valley First is beyond me. My first visit to this location was this morning 8/6 @ 9 am, let me tell you I was NOT disappointed!! Who ever was the greeter this morning is truly fantastic. She was extremely helpful, nice, and funny. We had only a few words of interaction, but I was so impressed with how she made me feel comfortable with in seconds. Plus the new technology they have in this place is mind blowing. The ID scanner had my mind blown lol. Disappointed with the direction the credit union is going. No drop boxes, virtual tellers and long lines will send me to another CU

We have done almost all our banking here, both business and personal, for over thirty years. They have always been top - notch: professional, flexible and friendly. I have used their ATM rarely, but never had a problem. And I've seen people using it regularly. There are often lines, but they're short, and usually move at a very reasonable rate - nothing at all like B of A, where we sometimes have to do business. Today I had to stand in line probably longer than I ever have. Not surprising, since it's a Saturday, the beginning of a holiday weekend. But still, things went as quickly as could be expected. Every month I try to pay my phone bill the wait time is about 30-1hr I literally dread paying my bill every month. Drove all the way out there once ( I live 40 mins away) and had absolutely no help. Your staff are really rude on the phone. When I tried to discuss about my payment to my VFCU credit card from my savings account, I was transferred to many reps and no one can assist me. They cut me off and just transfer. It was a female individual who handled my call. Pls. research who this person is. She should be removed from answering phones and providing customer service. This bank has friendly people but I have gone through 6 debit cards not only is this a problem they keep locking my accounts. What am I to do If I am out of town and Valley Credit Union keeps having the same issues. Fix it and be done with it. I love this bank/credit union; but the lines and teller speed is HORRIBLE. There are almost always 8-15 people in line and only 1-2 tellers helping members. I've had an account here since 2011. I have never had problem. Their Turlock location is always clean and friendly. There are son drawbacks because it is a small credit union. There aren't many locations and obviously you would have to live around here also the only banking is lacking. All that aside it is good for the average consumer. I love how direct deposit for financial aid and other stuff is fast. read more

They want me to pay off my credit card or they will completely close my ENTIRE account . I've been with them 10 years . I deposit a check so I can use THOSE funds to pay off the card. They are holding half of the check. It's released the same day my account will close . I asked them to help me or give me options . 3 women I spoke to. All useless and rude . Updating my review. After calling the call center and dealing with them, and having a horrible experience. I emailed via the app and was called back. They actually listened to the call, and did some training with their reps, and made the issue I was having right. Sad that you have to keep going hire up, but they did the right thing. I can't stand the way they do things at this bank. The ATM never works. I had $30 in my account I went to the pet store and use $20 they said that was pending are used $15 at the Papa Murphy's so I went over my account balance by five dollars but because the $20 was pending they charge me another processing fee for that so for a five dollar overdraft fee I had to pay 2 $28Processing fees and I've been a customer for over 10 years and they said there was nothing they could do. I hardly even use this account and for me to have to pay $60 is unbelievable. I even try to go to the ATM to pay the extra five dollars right away before they charge me the fee but their ATM was broke like always. I would recommend that no one ever uses Valley First read more

Decided to set up accounts here and refinance some of our loans for better interest rates. However they have made it a very inconvenient process. Sending us back and forth for different things instead of letting us know exactly what we would need to bring in. Every time I have asked if I could fax a form in the answer was "NO we need to see it in person". Also the lady setting up our accounts couldn't tell our checking account from our savings account and kept getting them mixed up. Just a lot of inconvenient things that could have been avoided. Banking should be made easy and convenient for customers. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and will give them 6 months. If it continues to be a problem I will be taking my money somewhere else. read more

The tellers are always friendly and helpful, although there is frequently a long line to get to them. However, I always dread having to deal with one of the rep's because they treat you like they are doing you a favor by helping you. You sit there waiting to be summoned while inevitably one or two of them sit working at their computers, completely ignoring you. I have been banking with Valley First since I was 18. I have never had any problems with them until I started going to this branch once I moved to Turlock. I had an issue with a check not having all the information printed on it a few months ago, and was charged late rent fees from my apartment complex because my check wouldn't go through. I was told that I should have paid more attention to my check before turning it in for rent. I was able to speak to someone from a different branch who was much more helpful. On top of the terrible customer service, the outside ATM is almost never available for use. It is always "temporarily out of service", and I've noticed this happening more often after business hours. Isn't it the whole point of an ATM to allow people to get cash out or make a deposit at any time? I work 8-5 and commute to and from work, so it would be nice if their ATM would be operational once in a while. read more

This USE to be a good bank; but their customer service and "small town" relationship feel has clearly evaporated overtime. Perhaps their customer base has grown to a point that irrespective of being a customer for over 10 years, they are perfectly fine with customers taking their business elsewhere--over a technicality! I moved to the bay area in 2012 to finish law school and had initially called to cancel my account. My mother and I each have accounts with VFCU and it was her who helped me open my first account when I was just 17. My mom actually moved to Sacramento and was planning to close her account, but I convinced her to keep hers, because I live in the Bay Area--but still had mine. In any event, the woman I spoke with told me that although I was moving away, I could still keep the account instead of canceling it. She even emailed me a list of credit union partners in my area that I could still bank with if I needed to make withdraws, deposits, etc. So I did not think it would be an issue when I made a large deposit last week Friday morning. Only a portion of the deposit showed up on my printed receipt, but I just figured the rest would clear in a day or so. Come Tuesday this week, there was still no release of the funds into my account. By Wednesday, I was very concerned because I have many bills automated. Between planning my wedding and trying to recall all the places that would be debiting my account, I decided to call VFCU on Wednesday. I waited, and waited, and waited for SOMEBODY to pick up the phone--but no, just the annoying recording played over and over. I had to get back to work, so after 8mins, I hung up and sent an email instead. Nobody got back to me yesterday so I decided to call again this morning. I called at 9:15am and by 9:28am, I was STILL waiting for someone to answer the phone. I decided I would call back during my lunch break. Meanwhile, my Mint.com account had notified me that my account was now overdrawn. I was livid!! THIS was what I was trying to avoid and what I was afraid would happen!!! I received an email finally from Raquel around noon. Rather than email her back, I decided to call. AGAIN I was on hold for 10 minutes before someone answered. It turned out to be Raquel. I explained to her the situation and she put me on hold again to speak to her manager, Joan(a). When she came back she told me she would release the money pending to my account but that they were not going to reverse the two overdraft fees on my account that happened the hour before! I asked to speak to her manager, and was told she was gone for lunch. I was instead transferred to Joan's voicemail. Joan called me back later about a couple hours after the voicemail. She acted like she was there to hear me out but after I explained to her what happened, she just dismissed me saying that she was not going to reverse the overdraft fees. It was so incredibly insulting. Both Joan and Raquel had the unmitigated chutzpah to scold me about not using the VFCU app to deposit my check rather than go to a partner atm. Joan said the app just came out--thanks for the marketing effort VFCU. So now all of this is MY fault? Because I did not know it would take THIS much time to deposit a check into my account???!! I ended up letting Joan know that I wanted to close my account with VFCU. I was told I had to sign something to do this. I asked her to email it over so I could begin the process and as it stands now (10:13pm) I never received anything although we spoke this afternoon around 3pm. I am so over it. It is so clear that these folks haven't a clue that it is more difficult to get new customers than it is to maintain the LOYALTY you had!! Great service guys!! Good riddance! read more
