I've seen Ted for two seperate serious ailments over the year. My back had been so bad for months, I could barely get up from a chair. Tried a lot of massage, stretching etc prior to seeing him. He did what was described as 'body work' - a mixture of massage and strong assisted movement. I couldn't believe it when I woke up the next day, but it was totally fixed - after months of suffering unnecessarily. Had a similar experience again with my shoulder last week. Condescending, unapologetic, and careless. This is just a taste of what Theodore M. Schiff has been to my fiancee. Upon arriving a few minutes early (5:30pm was the appt.), he was already late to begin her session. At about 5:33pm we patiently knocked on his door since it appeared he had forgotten about us. He opened the door and said abruptly "Can YOU see I'm with someone right now?". Mind you, he was talking and laughing with someone else in that room, clearly finished with that customer. After another 2 minutes the customer finally left his presence and now it was my fiancee's turn, right? No. As a matter of fact, not only did he COMPLETELY forget about her appointment, but he instead he decided to take someone else. Apparently he mixed up my fiancee's phone number with a regular client of his. So he took the client he normally sees, EVEN though it was not her turn. His response to the mix up? "I'm only human. It happens". As well as "I can't take you both" claiming he isn't a magician or some sort. Unapoligetic and rude. My fiancee and I have never been treated so poorly before, having used Groupon as loyal customers. My fiancee enterted his therapy session expecting to reduce stress. Instead, she and I came out of it visibly and mentally stressed, wondering just what had happened. This is the first negative review I have made upon a company/business and it is one I hope to never have to write again. read more

I am sad to say I had a very disappointing experience with Ted. I bought an hour long massage through Groupon only to be told when I arrived that it was actually 30 minutes. When I went home after and double checked, it was in fact advertised as an hour. This left me feeling like I had been scammed. I wrote Ted an e-mail about this, but never heard anything back. I was also immediately put on his marketing e-mail list despite asking not to be. I e-mailed him several times about being taken off and again didn't hear anything back. I've finally (2 years later) been able to unsubscribe, but this whole experience has been anything but therapeutic - something he claims to be central to his mission as a bodyworker. read more

I met this therapist through Groupon when I bought a therapy session and I had a massage in mind. I am a chronic pain patient who benefits from it. The therapist Ted is a friendly easy to talk to Gentleman who gave me a warm welcome and listened to me and my ailments and he recommended reflexology, Reluctant because I never tried it, I said ok. It was Great! I felt instant relief from pain and stress. Many days later still feeling the benefits I mentioned Teds therapy to my primary care Dr. of many years and he thought it was Great! I generally don't write Yelp reviews, although I find them incredibly helpful, and since my massage experience with Ted was so exceptional, I feel compelled to spread the word. Ted has a strong and grounded approach with the body, while also being incredibly intuitive and in a deeply therapeutic capacity. I chose the integrated acupressure massage after discussing my bodywork goals with Ted and feel that this style incorporated the best of everything, as far as massage goes. I am a huge fan of multiple modalities of massage work (deep tissue, Thai-massage, acupressure, reflexology, etc.) and have to say that this was one of the best massages I've ever received! I could feel instantly that his work was guided by not only years of advanced training and experience, but from a truly gifted and healing energy. I have mixed feelings about my visit. My husband bought me a Groupon for a massage for Mother's Day. I have two small children, and I'm incredibly stressed a lot of the time. The first 20 minutes of the appointment included how this was "an audition" because the intention is that you return to pay full price. "I only get $20 for an $80 service." O.o Unprofessional. I was asked about wellness... I'm a mom. I take care of two small children. I'm lucky if I can go to the bathroom alone, let alone get regular massage/bodywork. He informed me that it's important that I take care of myself because, "let's face it, you aren't 20 anymore." I'm sorry, what? I came in for some pampering, not to be insulted and told what I was doing wrong with my self-care. But then the treatment began. He decided that I could benefit from acupressure. *shrug* okay. At least I didn't have to take my clothes off. And OMG OMG OMG.... it was exactly what I needed! I mean... I felt so much tension just evaporate. I can't explain it, but insults and unprofessionalism aside, the man DID know what I needed. So then the 30 minutes session ended. And I drank some water, and he spoke more about all his continuing education. He did train with the best, and it shows. But he was blocking the door as he told me all this. As someone who suffers from anxiety, I was starting to feel trapped and a little panicked. As I was about to say I had to go, he got up and I was free to go, I am grateful for the experience of acupressure, but I'll be finding a different provider. read more

I have been seeing Ted for Integral Acupressure for about 2 years. His work has helped me immensely with my recovery from a spine injury and TMJ. He is highly professional, caring, and careful with my injuries and yet is able to go deep into the problem areas and release them. My reflexology session with Ted was a lovely introduction to reflexology and its many benefits. I felt safe throughout the session as he continually checked in with me to ask how I was doing. The pressure he used was just right for me and it was clear that he really knows what he's doing. I highly reccomend Valley Massage Therapy and Theodore Schiff. As someone who needs neuromuscular body work and enjoys receiving massages I was more than satisfied with the expertise and experience in general. I have had body work and many massages in the past with a variety of different professionals as well as physical therapists and in many kinds of atmospheres. But, Ted seemed to cover all the bases and has been my most favorite yet. He is located right in the heart of beautiful downtown Northampton, which I like. And he even informed me of locations I can park for free. He always asked questions on how I was feeling and what I felt needed work which put me at ease, but also made me feel comfortable communicating with him. He also always offers me a cup of water and plays soothing music. Or whatever I prefer to hear. My husband bought me a Groupon for a session, Valley Massage Therapy's answering machine says to go to the website, (which features creepy pictures of the owner crawling all over women) I went to the website, but there was no link for Groupons, and the service that my husband purchased was not listed. I then called the owner three times over the course of a month, and he never returned any of my phone calls. The owner never contacted me with any instructions as to how to use the Groupon. I've been seeing Theodore Schiff (Tedd), Massage Therapist, for 5 months now. I try to maintain a bi weekly schedule with him. Once I discovered him, I have tried many of his modalities, deep tissue massage, reflexology, cupping all of which I found to be very effective, although I was skeptical at first. I come with a mixed bag of symptoms and he is so aware of my needs that he is always spot on with finding the root cause to treat. Tedd is highly trained in many areas but the connection on a more visceral, more spiritual level is what brings me back to him for more! When one finds such a rare combination of gifts, it is truly awesome and compelling. I always leave with a deep, loving and jazzed positive feeling that is so satisfying in mind, body and soul!
