My first impression of this place was a little questionable, mainly because of the woman I spoke with over the phone when scheduling my first appointment. I'm not sure if it was someone at the front desk or one of the staff in the back, and later on I was told that others have had issues with this place as well. That said, the pediatrician we have is amazing, and I'm sure the others are just as great. If it weren't for him, I probably would've said, "Forget it, we'll go somewhere else." I want to share my frustrating experience with the front office at my children's pediatric clinic. I had two insurance plans and decided to keep the secondary one. My six-month-old son had to undergo open-heart surgery at a children's hospital in the Bay Area, where there were no issues with his insurance during his stay. Afterward, he had follow-up appointments with his cardiologist, and there were no problems with insurance verification. However, for his pediatrician the office began saying he couldn't be seen for his follow-up due to a lack of insurance coverage. I contacted the insurance company, and they confirmed he was covered. When the insurance called the office, the front desk staff insisted they couldn't rely on what the insurance said over the phone and had to go by their internal system. This was incredibly frustrating. For over a month and a half, I went back and forth with the office and my insurance to get my son seen. After yet another call, I asked to speak with a supervisor. The front desk staff then admitted they had been looking at the information incorrectly and said my son could be seen. I pressed for a supervisor because I felt the situation was unacceptable, especially since it had been over a month since his surgery. The supervisor acknowledged that the office should have listened to the insurance provider and assured me the issue was resolved. However, when I later tried to book an appointment for my daughter, I was informed within 15 minutes that she couldn't be seen due to insurance issues. I explained that I had just navigated this with my son and that the insurance was valid. The staff then mentioned that verification needed to be done for each child separately, adding to the confusion. Overall, the front desk's handling of appointment booking and insurance verification has been unprofessional, unhelpful, and at times rude. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, especially when it comes to my children's health care needs. It's so frustrating when now you have to take your child who is ill and wait in an ER just to be seen when she should of been seen by her pediatrician this office needs to do better read more

We have been seeing Dr. Bauman since my daughter was born and he is absolutely fantastic. As a new mom, I definitely had a lot of questions throughout this journey and not once have I ever been made to feel anything but support from this office. The office staff, doctors, and nurses are all wonderful, very kind, accommodating, and respectful. I believe the reviews below from many years ago do not match up with what we have experienced this year. The front desk gals are super kind and we have not had any issues with billing department. We have never waited more than 10-15 minutes past appointment time which I find to be very good. Great central location and we have received wonderful care. read more

Dr Chan is AMAZING!!! From meeting her when I was pregnant then seeing her when my daughter was born and now 15 years later, her bedside manner remains impeccable. She is kind, empathetic, values our time, and listens to what we have to say. My daughter trusts her and that's what I love. The phones, YIKES..... getting through to make an appointment is the worst. It can take hours and that's no exaggeration. Once you finally get through the staff is so great at getting us in. I have been a 12 year client with Valley Oak Pediatric with 4 children. The staff is terrible. When you call for an appointment you get ran around and placed on hold forever. When you call for billing issues Debbie the customer care rep was rude, argumentative and unhelpful until I asked for her name and her tone changed a bit. The office manager who was supposed to be helpful, decided that she would not take a second to listen to an upset customer about poor service multiple time. She cut me off while I was trying to explain myself with a few different issues and she became hostile and aggressive and hung up on me saying she doesn't have to deal with upset and frustrated people who have a mean tone. She needs to go back and get some customer service training along with training her staff. The doctors are subpar except for Dr. Chan. I work in the medical field as a licensed professional and I have never seen such poor medical examinations from multiple different doctors over the years. At a well exam we were not informed that our child had a hearing issue. He told us everything looked great. The follow up phone call from the hearing office in Manteca after recieving our results was a bit of a shocker to say the least. Dr. Pham was doing a routine well examination on my child and when going to look for hernias in his genital area gave him no heads up or notification of what the exam would include. He also was bare handed which not only was I absoultey in shock but so was my son who was not told what was about to happen. Also no medical professional ever touches patients, especially children, with ungloved hands in private areas. This office is a place you hear about, think will be great. Its problematic, frustrating and overall a general let down that better service and professionalism could not be given to customers for over a decade who were treated like trash and hung up on. The doctors are fine, but...The last few times my kids had visits here, they were running very behind. Ranging anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour past our appointment time. We had a much quicker visit at a local urgent care recently, where we walked in without an appointment. We were in and out of there in 30 minutes. We have been coming here for years for our 2 younger children. The staff and doctors are great! Scheduling is easy and they are attentive to any questions we might have. We have always been treated with the upmost courtesy and respect. The doctors are comprehensive in their exams and address all concerns! I live in Oakdale and after some bad experiences in town, this is worth the drive! read more

I am actively trying to find other doctors to see my children. It may mean that I have to drive 30-40 minutes out of my way but I can guarantee that a good pediatric office will save that much. I've been taking my son to see Dr. Bouman for 3 years and we love him! Today he was not in the office so we saw a different doctor I believe it was Dr. Chan. She was wonderful. But I cannot give enough praise to the assistant we had today, Michelle! She was so sweet and so patient with my son. She made me feel at ease and was very friendly. I feel she goes above and beyond and you can tell she loves her job. We have always had great experiences at this office and highly recommend them. We see Dr. Chan for all of our kids. She's great. Sometimes the counter staff is a little distant. That gets old pretty quick. But they're quick to get you in on your appointment. They KNOW your children. They ask the right questions and make you feel important. I cannot stress enough how amazing Dr. Chan is with our babies. Dr. Pham is great. Unfortunately office staff is not so great. They are rude every time you call and we got dropped because our insurance was having issues paying a bill and they held us responsible. As we were trying to figure out what's going on with our insurance and communicating with them the practice just dropped us and wouldn't take my kids back even after our insurance cleared up the issue and paid them. read more

I have been going to Valley Oak since 2012 with all 3 of my girls! Dr. Bui and Spangler are great! However, the front desk and ladies that take calls are very rude and unprofessional! I had called in July requesting a check up and update vaccines for my daughter heading off to college. Yes-she is 18 yrs of age and I understand she will need to transfer to a primary and not pediatric but that takes time! The lady then tells me she has been dropped, due to her age! No letter or phone call NOTHING! her comments and tone was beyond unprofessional! She then transfers me to "supervisor" who had the same tone and response! We moved here from Boston last year and despite some negative reviews gave this practice a chance. What others say is true. We are used to world class health care, people travel from all over the world to Boston for medical care, and the doctors here are top notch. But the entire staff sucks. I mean absolutely sucks. We are now looking for a new pediatrician because I absolutely will not be treated in the manner we have been. Fortunately in Modesto we have many choices for good doctors. As far as doctors go (the ones I've taken my kids to see), they're great. The reception staff however-terrible!!!! I have never encountered such rude people in a medical setting in my life, and this happens every time I go in and ever time I call. Has anyone seen Dr. Pham lately ?? My kids have been to valley oak since they were babies , which has been over a time span of 26 years and then moved on to a family practitioner because they got too old for valley oak. My younger son who just turned 18 recently seen Dr. Pham and I have never seen such rude, short and could give a crap about why we were there. We ended up walking out of there baffled and more confused as to why my son is having skin issues. I talked toa few friends and they suggested getting a second opinion. I also had to call in because the medication he basically threw at him as a band aid fell in water accidentally and ruined the whole bottle and when he called me back the tone he had was sarcastic and asked why he started the medication A few dates later. First of all we wanted to wait closer to the weekend so he can adjust to the meds if he had any reactions and was at home instead of work . Personally if he's unhappy and could care less about his patients just give it up already and go some place else . I never got that type of treatment from Dr .Bolton and wish she was still there with her caring bedside manners and I knew my kids were always in good hands . We always been bringing our kids in this clinic we love the dr. There dr. Scott Yang., but hes already gone. I made appointment last april to complete my kids vaccinations they said only availble schedule is april 30,2019 @ 10:30am. So i came early hoping we can get done early, theres a nurse attended to us at frst she was ok taking my kids vital signs and blood sample . She told us take ur son's pants off ILL BE BACK... that was 10:50 we waited until my daughter passed out and my son got bored waitng for her to come back.. for a Long period of time shes not even bug that she has a patient waitng in the cubicle for her she ddnt even say like hey ill be with u n a bit we just a bit busy so We can understan whats going on.. till 12 noon came i decided to look for them n the station the nurse sitting n her computer as well as the dr. Busy with paper works i confronted her what time the shots will be given coz i have to pick up my other son at school she said maybe in 12:20 the dr. S busy ryt now but she ddnt even stand to tell dr. Ronald goldman that he has a patient waitng for him. She told me Maybe i can make another appointmnt to come back nxt day well frst of all i waited a month to get my kids shots then i have to come back nxt day for a shot ?? Again?? Let me start by saying the Drs here are great and I'm beyond happy with them. During COVID my daughter was due for her 2 year well child visit. I called to see if she was due for vaccines and if not I wasnt going to book an apt. I called and front staff was friendly and offered to make me an apt a few months out in hopes that things would calm down and since their apts were pretty full. I agreed. I specifically asked if a text reminder would be sent because at the time I was driving and could not pull over to write it down. My voicemail box on my phone does not work. She confirmed that it would not be a problem. Fast forward a few months later I guess I missed the apt...I got no text reminder. They billed me 45 dollars for a missed apt. I've never ever missed an apt or not called if I needed to make changes. The lady in billing was rude. I explained the situation and how I dont have access to my vm and thats why I do text. She said they dont do text anymore and rudely said it was my responsibility to remember my apt and they called two days prior with no response...again I have no vm so no way to get the message. I also made the apt months in advance which I dont normally do. If they werent doing text then they shouldn't say they do. No understanding. No compassion. Just rude attitude telling me "well we dont do text anymore" more than once. Got it you dont do it ANYMORE, but that was not communicated when I made the apt. Maybe you should text your text notifications to say you are no longer doing that. Just a suggestion. At the end of the day they could have seen this isnt a chronic problem with my family and been understanding considering the lack of communication. This pediatric office will NOT give any more appointments for flu shots for children and have no other suggestion for a parent with a child 4 and under to get a shot, as pharmacies will not provide a shot to young children. Dr. Bauman is amazing. My son has been a patient for 7 years and Dr. Bauman has always been accommodating with any last minute appointments since he's familiar with his medical needs. The staff used to be friendly and professional, and a few of the long time employees still are, but there are 2 that work in the front or answer the calls who are absolutely rude to the point that I really felt she was going to hang up on me. I've recently switched to another location because the last few visits have been unpleasant. I keep this office as back up for days that my son's provider cannot accommodate. My kids have been coming here since they were babies. (Now 11 and 4) they've had Dr. Pham their whole lives and I can tell you this place is by far the best. I never have to wait long on the phone to make an appointment. Wait times have always been less than 5 min. I love that their waiting rooms are split and have a "sick room" a "well room. And even a separate "contagious" entrance. The nurses are always welcoming, They're fast with paperwork etc I've never had a bad experience here. They have emergency appointments on Saturdays too! Whenever I thought my son had an ear infection I'd call to make an appointment and they always take me that day. AMAZING. them! read more

They messed up a referral, they've been unable to obtain my son's medical records and are trying to say he's never been vaccinated and tying to give unnecessary vaccines, instead of telling me that the paperwork I already filed to obtain them somehow went missing? Trying to get them to schedule an appointment is ridiculous, I've never called and gotten thru to anyone without being on hold for at least 20 mins. My children have been patients @Valley Oak since they were a little tiny practice on Melrose Ave back in 91/92. The office visits are really reservations not appointment's you feel as if you are the only pt in the whole office when you see Dr Bailey and NP Bailey. It's a pleasurable experience even with a sick or ailing child. I know this as one of my boys was a wrestler with many many injuries and ailments. The office is clean..spotless even. The staff is courteous and the samples (when needed) are a $$ saver. We had an emergency and needed to see the Dr (not a medical emergency but a paperwork emergency for High school) but required an appt. As it was the 27th and we needed to be seen before 4pm that day and nothing was available at all on a 1/2 day notice. To my surprise (not really , considering how amazing the Baileys are) Bailey called me back personally and even said to get here asap. She even stayed into her lunch to see us. Thanks to her awesomeness my son is able to continue playing golf. I have never met a Dr so willing to help me or my family. Above and beyond is all I can say.....and thank you Zippy and Dr.B.....the best peds practitioners ever! read more

My son is 4 months old and has been a patient since he was first examined in the hospital after he was born by Dr Bauman, who comes to check on the babies and do their initial exams. We made an appointment to see him in the following weeks after my baby was born and I like him very much. He is a very gentile, kind and intelligent guy. He explains everything he is doing and looking out for, which is soooo helpful for a first time parent like me who has no idea what they are doing sometimes. Next year when I have to change insurance companies because of my job I'm going to be very very upset to lose him, and will seek a reference from him for my next pediatrician. The office is always very clean with Disney movies playing for the little ones. They post lots of drawings and artwork from the children all over the walls too. They also have a sick waiting room and a well waiting room, which on the one hand I can appreciate but on the other hand since they are both out in the open it seems sort of like having a peeing section in a swimming pool: kind of pointless germ-wise. The receptionists are always friendly and helpful and the nurses are sweet and seem to genuinely love babies. I wish I could recall the name of the nurse I get almost every time because she is always a sweetheart and is gentle and loving with my baby every time we see her. I will be very very sad to have to switch drs next year. read more

We have always been really happy with Dr. Bauman and all the other doctors we have seen but getting an appointment has been HORRIBLE! I totally agree with the other posts that the reception staff needs additional training. I've tried to make appointments on two separate occasions for my son with an ear infection and they are unwilling to schedule anything unless I go in the moment- I don't live nearby and I have a job so that doesn't work- who doesn't take appointments?!?!? And then be super rude about it- I really don't want to have to find another doctor but if I can't even get an appointment then what's the point- I guess it's urgent care- again :/ read more

Dr. Bailey and his wife Zippy have been my kids primary doctors since birth( my oldest is 15 my youngest 10). They have been great caregivers for our kids and very supportive and honest with us. As they are now retired, it is harder to get an appointment with someone who cared as much as them. We have not been pleased with the care we have had from the other doctors. The new doctors do not take the time to listen to the patients. We took my daughter in twice in a three week span with the complaint of a soar throat. We ended up taking her to an Urgent care because the doctors she saw simply wrote off her soar throat as allergy related. Urgent care finally did a swab of her throat and determined it was Strep. We are now looking for another medical facility for our family. read more
