This place is absolutely amazing. From the friendly and helpful front office staff, to the amazing Dr. Chiang and his assistants. I had tooth extraction done yesterday with zero pain, and am already recovering quickly with zero pain as well. I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed here almost 2 months ago from here now. I really appreciate this place, considering I have a history of Bell's palsy and am prone to my nerves in my face flaring up again from stress. After Dr. Lee's and I consultation, we agreed to do a coronectomy on the wisdom (taking only partial of the tooth out) since my wisdom's roots were so close to my nerves. I highly appreciated the doctor caring about my concerns of nerve damage and being transparent with me of the possibility of it occurring. I was also prescribed a medication to help with my anxiety to take the night and morning before going to the procedure, since I was going under general anesthesia for this wisdom removal. The procedure went well I believe considering I woke up smoothly. Not surprising, recovery was painful, I had discharge instructions to help me manage. They prescribed me a different opioid when the other one wasn't managing my pain strong enough, so that was very nice of the doctor to do. It was my first time having opioids however... and I wasn't prescribed a stool softener so I ended up in the ER for constipation... I was taking the medications as prescribed. So I just wish the side effects were more communicated with me, my near by pharmacy should have just informed me as well upon me picking them up but oh well. I think it would be beneficial if this place went over the medications on the discharge papers. Other than that, I highly recommend this place! The follow up care is spectacular as well, they truly care about your oral health before and after. I would 100% come here again. read more

My 15 year old daughter had 4 wisdom teeth token out at the same time. We were told 1 hour she would be ready to go home . It took 2 hours and I kept asking whats going on ? I was told she woke up crying emotional but hadn't woke up yet !! So I asked to see my daughter immediately . They placed me in a private room so surgeon could explain what's happened to my daughter she can't wake up yet !! So they finally took me to operating room she was laid out like she was dead , hands hanging off the sides dangled !! I spent another 30 minutes to try to wake her up and Dr kept giving her a reversal drug to come out of it . But no success yet . Another 20 minutes she jumped up like possessed and swinging arms violently and head down and eyes still shut and panting loudly and couldn't wake up !! I asked Dr to call 911 which she hesitated and wouldn't so I had to . They came within 5 minutes said she had hi blood pressure over 189 and couldn't respond to there questions and said we need to ambulance her to ER !! So we got to hospital it took a total of 5 hrs before she started to slur talking and trying tooth her eyes , they CT scan and blood work and she received fluids and Tylenol based meds for her pain since anesthesia was finally wearing off!! The appt started at 9:30 we didn't get home to late evening around 6;00 pm ! Dr said he wouldn't have given her those strong drugs at that dosage for her age !!! Dr canceled her opioids that Dr Lee had prescribed her and she was prescribed children's Tylenol and children's Motrin for pain control for her age! She is so dramatized from this experience and she had prior anesthesia procedures and never had this reaction . I did not take her back for follow up we took her somewhere else for follow , which she is getting great care ! Please be aware of your children's procedures of too much drugs !! I was recommend by my primary dentist at Gold River Smiles for a wisdom tooth extraction, I met with Dr.Chang for a consultation and the technician that was assisting that day was very nice and knowledgeable they both made me feel very comfortable and gave me treatment options, Dr.Chang,Monica, Rachael THE WHOLE STAFF is very caring and kind they were on TOP of everything ,let me know my cost beforehand,sent my prescriptions to the pharmacy with ample time & answered every question I needed,I decided the best option for me would be to be put to sleep. The quality of the work feels great so far I had my surgery on 12/27, they allowed me to keep my teeth& I was given home care instructions/kit and a very convenient 24hr line which I did use,my follow up was 1/3 where Dr.Chang flushed my incisions & let me know everything was looking good so far and I felt no need for any kind of pain reliever by 1/4, this is one of my most expensive procedures but for the amount of teeth (4) and being put to sleep it is about $200 ish per tooth with insurance I think for quality and work it is VERY fair ,the office is very clean and organized as well from waiting area to operation room,the only inconvenience is the bathroom, you have to take a little back way to it but it is also clean ,overall it is a very welcoming and clean environment , I am so glad I was recommended to come here and I would not hesitate to direct anyone needed extraction here . I had a referral to them way back in August and of course, I procrastinated cause my tooth didn't hurt anymore. Well last week, it came back with a vengeance! I called my regular dentist and told them I needed to get back ASAP. I went ahead and called their office and they were able to get me in the next morning! So it's on the Sac State side of Fair Oaks, which I misunderstood while on the phone, so I was almost late. It's off to the side of Fair Oaks in the little office buildings. Seems to be adequate parking. Office is nice and front desk ladies are super nice! I get in there and I am seen within 10 minutes or so. I get taken to the back and the dentist basically describes worse case scenario to me and says it could take up to 30 minutes, so I mentally prepare myself for the torture i am about to endure. They numb me, put some weird thing that looks like a plastic tooth guard in my mouth and go in. Within 30 seconds she got the whole tooth out and in less than two minutes, I was stitched up and ready to go!! There wS pressure, but absolutely no pain! I was in and out in like 45 minutes or so! Insanely fast, no pain and great office staff! Super recommend if you need to get any type of tooth removal!! Thanks for taking care of me ladies!!! read more

Dr Chiang was able to fit me in SO LAST MINUTE, but I could not make it. I later rescheduled my appointment and was in Sacramento for only one week. I had a tooth extracted without twilight anesthesia. The extraction was painful; part of this was because the extraction was rushed. It felt like the extraction would have been less painful if more time had been taken with everything, from the initial shot to finishing the extraction. I should have stuck with my instinct and insisted on twilight. I have had a previous extraction with twilight which went fine. If I could give them a million stars, I would! I HATE going to the dentist, let alone an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth extracted. The only reason why I did it a few weeks ago was due to a crack in my wisdom tooth. Otherwise, those suckers would have stayed! My dentist is very picky about who he trusts to do tooth extractions. And for good reason. When he explained the complexity of the surgery, especially with how deep my roots were, I knew it was serious. He suggested I go to Grace U. Lee D.M.D. M.D. After several months of ignoring the problem, I finally got to a point that I HAD to go. Made an appointment on a Wednesday, and they booked me for a pre-op appt on Wednesday the following week. Pre-op appt was relaxing. Yes, you heard me... RELAXING! They have a beautiful office that has been touched by an interior designer. I kinda wish it was my home. I brought my x-ray's from my dentist and I later was told they wouldnt work since they couldnt see the end of the root. They asked to do another xray. Little did I know I would be sitting in a really cool chair/tube thingy, having a 360 scan. And NO funky gaging stick holding the film in your mouth! LOVED IT! They waved the cost since I brought my xray in with me. I was expecting a big bill. Nope! Not here. They are very reasonable. The next day I had my wisdom teeth extracted. My appt was at 8am. My boyfriend waited in the lobby while I went in and had it done. I originally wanted to be awake for the extraction. After going over the seriousness of my situation I decided it was best if they knocked me out. Everyone was VERY professional, answered all of my nervous questions before they put me under. I even apologized. Its amazing how talkative you become when nervous... Suddenly you become flooded with questions. When you get your teeth extracted, its mediatory you have someone waiting in the waiting room. 35 minutes later my boyfriend came into the operating room and walked behind the associate who was wheeling me out on a wheel chair. Side note: I was impressed and VERY GRATEFUL that they pushed me out on a wheel chair through the side door instead of the main lobby entrance where everyone can see you. Ive had to go pick up friends and family at other facilities and they were forced to walk out into the lobby. This was a very nice touch and made me feel comfortable. Few hours later I got nervous when the blood wouldnt stop. They told me to return and took a look. Apparently it was normal. Few days later they were concerned about an infection so I returned for a follow-up visit. I have since returned a total of three times since my surgery. Each time I am treated amazing! One night I was in horrific pain. I called late to speak to the on call DR. He called me right back and was sooooo nice! He was great. He was willing to call in an RX if needed, asked me all the right questions, expressed care and concern. And said he was emailing me DR after we hung up. Which he did! Go here! Im sorry for the LONG essay. If you read my other reviews, you will notice I dont do this unless I am passionate about a place. I will defiantly return here. Oh! And they give you a care package with a jamba juice gift card, gauze, and a few other things in a cute little bag. You feel like you are a family member, not a number. read more

I had 3 wisdom teeth out just after the new year (fun). Dr. Chiang and the whole staff were fantastic. My extractions were (literally!) not straightforward, and I unknowingly had the beginning of an infection around one of them to boot. I am also a lot (decades) older than the typical patient for wisdom teeth removal. Dr. Chiang's way of communicating was warm, personable, and clear, and he obviously knows what he's doing. I didn't need any (!) pain medication after the first preventive pill when I got home and healed much faster than expected. His staff was also excellent, and I give particular kudos to the person who handles the insurance billing, Melissa, who was patient and clear and absolutely got it right in terms of coverage. There were no problems at all with insurance, which these days seems to be a rarity! I would not have spilled my personal stuff here in public if I hadn't had such a great experience from start to finish. Highly recommended. read more

Came here to get 4 wisdom teeth and 4 bicuspids pulled (8 at once!). Dr Chiang was the surgeon and his work was superb, I was in and out in just over an hour. Barely any swelling or pain a couple hours later and I even felt that I was ready to get back to my normal routine later that day. However, I had to get this molar taken care of....so off I went for a consult with Dr. Chiang. The entire staff was friendly and efficient. The assistant was very patient with me as I asked questions and thought about my options. Dr. Chiang was so soft spoken, yet knowledgeable, and it put me at ease. He assured me that I wouldn't remember the procedure (a fact I doubted based on several oral surgeries in the past) and he was 100% right! Dr. Grace Lee was absolutely wonderful with my 11 year old son. We had already had a consultation at another office and our son left telling us he never wanted to go back to that office or to that Dr. again. The Dr. and the office staff did not really talk to him at all about the procedure, nor did they give him any attention to calm his nerves. They talked to us over him. Luckily, our dentist also recommended Dr. Lee! She was calming, funny, kind, and explained what would happen during the procedure in perfect kid-language. My son struggles with severe anxiety, so I was thrilled he took to her right away! We scheduled the procedure that day (with my son's "ok") and subsequently had a wonderful experience working with her on his tooth extraction. He was so comfortable the whole time and when he woke up right after the surgery, he was amazed that it was finished! He woke-up super happy and ready to go home! I can't thank Dr. Lee enough!!! I highly recommenced her for children-especially ones with anxiety who need reassurance, child-appropriate explanations, and time for their own questions to be answered! We love Dr. Lee! read more

I was referred to Dr. Lee by my dentist to deal with a nasty oral infection with a bone splinter poking through into my mouth. Since this was an urgent issue, the front desk folks, Melissa and Gretchen, were able to get me in on the same day to see Dr. Lee. From the moment I walked in the I noticed the reception area was well kept and had nicer furniture than any other Dr's office I had been in before. Before I could even finish the standard forms for an initial visit, the dental assistant was calling me in. Dr. Lee performed the initial inspection and told me surgery was needed. Even with an already busy schedule, Dr. Lee was able to get the surgery scheduled within 3 days. The surgery went without complication, the bone splinter was removed, the bone was shaved down to prevent additional splinters, the infection debrided and a course of antibiotics was prescribed. After a couple weeks the nasty and aggressive oral infection I had came back, stronger than before. Dr. Lee advised that further surgery would only increase the risk of additional infection and prescribed a different course of antibiotics and a referral to an Infectious Diseases specialist. The ID specialist was difficult to get all the criteria met for an appointment and after several calls, Melissa and Gretchen at the front desk, called the ID specialist's office directly to work with them to provide the details they required. It took a dozen visits to Dr. Lee to resolve this infection and during every one of those visits, Dr. Lee and the staff were professional, friendly and best of all exceedingly competent in dealing with the infection, referrals and my insurance. I found out today that now my 4 year old has an oral infection. My wife and I didn't even think twice before calling the staff at Valley Oral to schedule his consult. read more

Not for children. Wish I could give zero stars. We had a consultation appointment with Dr. Grace U. Lee 2 1/2 weeks ago for my 7 year old son, and I am still in shock. When we entered the room with Dr. Lee's assistant, I advised the assistant that my son was aware that we were visiting the doctor that day to get an x-ray and find out if his supernumerary tooth was blocking his two adult front teeth from descending. The assistant smiled and left the room. A few minutes later, the assistant and Dr. Lee walked into the room and asked a few questions. I specifically mentioned to Dr. Lee that the only reason we were at the appointment was to get an x-ray of my son's teeth and find out if his supernumerary tooth was blocking his two adult front teeth from descending. First, Dr. Lee said that my son was 7 and in first grade and that 7 year olds that she sees are in 2nd grade. (So infuriating! Somehow my son's age and grade in school has anything to do with his teeth?) Dr. Lee then proceeded to examine his mouth. She then began talking to my son about how she would do the surgery. Putting a needle in his arm and putting him to sleep, extracting the extra tooth...Completely out of context of our visit. This, of course, led to my son screaming in fear. I interrupted Dr. Lee advising her that my husband and I had not yet discussed surgery with our son as we had not been informed that it was absolutely necessary. In trying to calm my son that was the end of the exchange of information. At one point, I mentioned to my son that when people have surgery's like this, they get to eat ice cream afterwards. As I look to Dr. Lee for confirmation, she quickly pipes up with "we don't recommend ice cream because it causes cavities." I was amazed at the gall of this woman who had just mortified my son, would further aggravate the situation by saying no ice cream. He's 7 years old!! Dr. Lee left the room and her assistant then went over a summary of charges with me. She proceeded to show me a approximation of what the cost would be for the extraction of two teeth. To which I quickly corrected her that only one tooth was being extracted. She told me I was wrong and proceeded to argue with me. This after she had been in the room during the conversation about the extraction, which she obviously had not paid attention to any of the conversation. (Blonde Nit Wit) After leaving the office and calming myself, I called the office a week and a half later, to try to get some of my questions answered because they were not answered while my son was screaming in her office. That call was placed a week ago and still no response. Horribly unprofessional and just a joke of an establishment. Dr. Lee may be a good oral surgeon but she is horrible with children. She lacks the maternal instinct to just be quiet if she can't help to calm a screaming child. I wish that this establishment would say they don't want children attending their office rather than being mean, cold hearted, insensitive machines. I happily and proudly recommend Capital Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on Marconi Ave. Dr. Phelps is amazing; he believes in parents being their child's advocate and works fabulously with children. read more

Dr. Chiang performed a surgical extraction on my upper and lower right side wisdom teeth. Dr. Chiang was not only extremely professional but also very gentle! He put my IV in and I didn't feel a thing and I'm not too big on needles! He extracted the teeth, made sure I came out of anesthesia ok and even called me later on that day to make sure I was ok! Don't see Dr. Grace Lee unless you want your child to go under general anesthesia for any kind of procedure because that's the only option she'll give you. Dr. Lee has great credentials and is probably a competent oral surgeon. However, she charges my insurance $83 for less than 10 minutes of consultation time in which she examined the x-ray for less than 30 seconds and looked at my child's tooth for another 30 seconds under normal room lighting condition with a flashlight. Yes, we were not in a dental chair with dental light above our head. Without discussing the x-ray or her examination findings with me, she then declared that my child needs to be put under completely for the procedure and will not remember any of it. When asked what are other options for anesthesia, her reply was, "If she were going to have her appendix taken out, wouldn't you want her to be put completely under?" I was speechless at this point. Dr. Lee also made a statement that we were referred to her because our dentist thinks that we needed general anesthesia. This is incorrect. We were referred because the tooth has 3 roots and the base was larger than the opening at the top. Our dentist even said that he thinks general anesthesia would probably not be needed and that nitrous oxide would probably be sufficient. Had she taken more time to examine the x-ray, she would see and understand why we were referred. I also asked if she foresee any complication with the procedure and her reply was, "I can't tell until I get in there. It could be 5 minutes or 20 minutes." I understand that while you can't foresee 100% what will happen, but you can at least have a good idea if the procedure will be routine or if there might be some anticipated complication (i.e. crooked roots, larger base, etc.). After all, based on the x-ray, our dentist did foresee a possible complication and referred us. Again, if only Dr. Lee cared enough to take more time to examine the x-ray and discuss it with her potential patient(s). The front desk staff reflects the attitude of the office, very efficient business. I was asked to fill out forms by one person. When I brought the form back, a 2nd person asked for my referral paper with the 1st person right there next to her not saying anything. I went to the car, got their office appointment slip, came back, and gave it to the 1st person since the 2nd person was no longer there and was told, "I don't need that, we have the referral already." Hello? You were right there when I was asked to supply this piece of paper. Why didn't you speak up and save me a trip to the car? In the end, I cancelled the appointment because I kept replaying the consultation over and over in my head and it didn't feel right. After much thinking, I came to the conclusion that it's a tooth, not an appendix, and I do have options with regards to anesthesia as well as oral surgeon. Going in I was concerned about getting a long winded review of the procedure (a complaint in another review). In short Dr. Grace was great! I got a brief synopsis was quoted a price for the procedure (about $800 -I had to have general anathisia due to my blood pressure). At the conclusion I was asked to come back for a check. I did. It was short and at no additional expense. She said the removal was more serious than expected. I feel she went the extra mile for me. read more

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out last year and Dr. Chiang was great. He made me feel comfortable and so did his staff. He was actually pretty funny and very professional. He came in and did what he had to do and left. I'm assuming he was busy but his staff was very nice and was there by my side the entire time. I'm glad that i came to see him. I consulted with Dr. Lee a few weeks ago for my 2 wisdom teeth. She was very nice and patient. Ready for any questions and concerns that I had. And her staff, the front office and back office, all so kind and caring. I finally had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday by Dr. Lee. I was a bit nervous, I was more worried about how I would be coming out of the anesthesia. Dr. Lee was so funny with her response, she said this room is Vegas, what happens her stays here. Funny and reassuring. She was super fast, my appt was at 9:45 and I was out by 10:15ish. Dr. Lee even called last night to check on me.
