This place was the bomb when I was growing up. Anything and everything gardening could be found here, but we visited rarely because for us it always was kind of far. Recently we stopped in to get plantings for our herb garden. We found the stock beautiful, the signage immensely helpful, the prices fair and the pleasant and knowledgeable staff made the whole experience an unabashed pleasure. Stopped in VVF to get some shears and rooting powder and was surprised to find the entire back section of the store emptied out. It was early September and there was a hidden corner full of Halloween decor then it dawned on me that they are prepping for Christmas. Wow, it really does seem earlier every year. A worker encouraged me to buy a plant I had asked about. Once I got it home, it looked sick and never grew. I tried to return it, but they told me no. It saddens me, because at $59 it was the most I've ever paid for a plant. Lesson learned: don't take the workers' advice. I'm on a mission to find gothic/creepy/weird looking plants, this they delivered! They have a small section of plants that like living in your terrarium, and they have cool creepy looking guys there. I'm always grateful when nurseries have a good selection of tiny plants, it's good for me $ wise and space wise lol One thing I really loved is that they have little sheets for you to understand the care for your plants! We have been coming here for YEARS! For our plant starters and for shrubs and trees etc-and of course to check out the Christmas display! More recently we have been coming because they have a nice selection of homegrow supplies! From fox farm, coast of Maine, down to earth and others- they have a lot of organic amendments- They have root gel and lights as well as many other things you would need to clone and grow your own plants at home! Everyone is so kind there and helpful and we've always been able to find what we are looking for! This is an indoor and outdoor market that sells a plants, planting supplies, and in the Christmas a ton of Christmas stuff. There are items ranging from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars but everything has prices listed. Service is good, sometimes there are long lines at check out. The store is definitely one you should go to around Christmas time at least once if you live locally or are visiting the area. The only downside is the amount of people that are consistently in the store!! You are constantly bumping into people and personally I always feel rushed when trying to look at things. I have been going to VVF for about 3 years now and I truly love this place! They have such a great selection of plants, outdoor materials, planters, soil.. literally whatever gardening items you need. The prices here are also pretty reasonable until you get to the more mature plants, they can get pricey! With that, the quality overall of all of their plants are great so that is a huge plus!! I also love that they offer a selection of smaller plants. Sometimes I like to get those to make sure I am able to provide the right type of care before splurging on a more expensive size. Of all of the plants that I have ever bought from here, none of them have had pest issues but you as the consumer do need to be selective when purchasing. I still inspect all of them! The overall staff is friendly with the exception of a few times I have approached an older lady, she was very short borderline rude IMO. Either way, I am there for the plants, so I was am not overly concerned about that. The cashiers however, are the friendliest and will chat with you when you get up to pay. read more

I purchased a shrub here because it was labeled deer resistant with valley view's own signage and it was eaten down to the ground on first night. When informed of this, valley view refused a refund despite the tree and shrub guarantee listed on their receipt (pictured below). This is not acceptable, and while valley view is correct that they cannot control the deer, they absolutely can control the content of the signage on which they induce customers to buy products based on "deer resistance." read more

Bottom Line: Huge garden center with a great selection and reasonable prices. As a gardener I had been wanting to go to Valley View Farms for a long time and I finally made it! I was so excited I nearly wet my plants! I visited during the very busy spring planting season so of course the garden center was bustling. But even with it being peak season the parking lot wasn't too crazy and the checkout line moved quickly. The selection at Valley View Farms is huge! I couldn't get over all the varieties of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees they had. I spent most of my time looking at annuals and perennials. The huge selection of coleus and heucheras were among my favorites. I loved seeing the pretty foliage on both varieties. I was also blown away by the massive collection of petunias they had. Beyond plants I enjoyed looking at their large selection of pottery and various other goodies inside like doormats, wind chimes, patio furniture and such. I departed with an awesome blue crab doormat and various plants. As far as prices go, I find them to be reasonable. They are more than my favorite low-overhead roadside stand and roadside stand-like places but definitely less expensive than Homestead Gardens in Severna Park and Davidsonville. If I lived closer I am sure I would visit more often. I hope to make it back to Valley View Farms this fall or Christmas to indulge in their seasonal goodies. read more

I've been going to Valley View my entire life. This is not a joke. I remember the pickle barrel and the little deli counter. I remember the barley lollipops and the shoestring licorice. We made our yearly pilgrimage last week. I would HIGHLY recommend going during the week, instead of during the weekend, and a bit before dark, and before Thanksgiving - if you can. This place becomes a madhouse during the Christmas season, especially on the weekends. If crowds don't bother you, by all means do you, but I find it easier and much more relaxing when I can take my time and admire each tree, and look at all the decorations without fearing I'm going to run someone over in my wheelchair. Also, I tend to buy more when I get the chance to see more. This year I left with at least 6 new ornaments, and some replacement lights for my bubble lights. Yes, I am a child of the 70s. Bubble lights are a MUST. The International room is slowly shrinking. They have removed the counters and there's a much smaller selection of cuckoo clocks and nutcrackers. Still managed to find what seemed to be a vulture ornament. I think that was the winner for Most Unusual ornament. The train garden village section seems to be expanding, though. I can't see much of it, since I can't stand, but I can understand that maybe it wouldn't be the best idea to have something with so many moving parts within the reach of children. The squeaking sound of the rotating trees always makes me smile. Those trees have been making that same noise for decades. I want a spinning tree! Unfortunately I live in a studio apartment and can't afford such a thing. A girl can dream, though. I never buy anything in the greenhouse, but no trip to VV is complete without going to see the plants and flowers. I think it might be an homage to the Christmas classic "Frosty, the Snowman." You know, when Professor Hinkle shuts Frosty into the greenhouse? And the Santa chastises the magician, and he gets so forlorn that an old can appears out of nowhere, just so he can kick it? Yes, I might be a bit Frosty obsessed... I love Valley View. You should go and experience the wonderful tackiness of Christmas! read more

The selections will have you're head spinning (in a good way). There are enough options to redo the in and exterior of your home or office, regardless of your skill level. We came a little too early and there weren't many shrubs to pick from. But beware, mostly everything is OVER PRICED!! The staff are friendly, they speak to you. But they didn't offer or ask if we needed any help?!?! But, I could ask for help if I needed it. There is a large parking lot with plenty of space. The entrance and exit area gets super congested super quick. There is another shopping area (small strip mall) adjacent to the nursery that causes some of the congestion. They also sell fish and pond supplies as well as just about anything you could think of for outdoor beautification. read more

I have been going to Valley View for decades. I have noticed in the last view years they have really downscaled the Christmas lights and decor on outside . it doesn't have that WOw factor of the past. Used to love the drive by. also we would go up after dinner and everyone got to pick 1 ornament for their tree. That is no longer a tradition . They close at 7:00. Ugh! We stopped in to purchase some pots and potting soil. Well we walked over and sat down on the Telescope outdoor furniture that was on sale. Kim, who is the sales associate, came over, and this week 2 rocking chairs, a glider, coffee table, side table, and rug will be gracing our just cleaned off and now empty patio. No pressure just knowledgeable. We had talked about redoing the patio and she made it a no brainer. Just a nice and helpful as could be and the kind of person you want to deal with on a daily basis. The young girl with the glasses, whose name we didn't learn, helped us with the potting soil selection and the ant repellent. Always a great stop for plants and flowering plants, but at this time of the year it also boasts it's International Christmas Village. Monday morning it was packed with families shopping for Christmas odds and ends. Anything and everything Christmas can probably be found here. We checked out the coocoo clocks and some flowers and herbs before we left. Massive building and huge parking lot with some HC spaces. Andy Nelson BBQ used to be located here, but has moved up the street to its own location and the deli that was here has been replaced by vending machines. read more

I just had my last experience at Valley View Farms, after being a customer for a decade and receiving kind, friendly service. Such service ended an hour ago when I asked an employee (male, youngish, slim, dark beard with glasses) a question about my hydrangeas, and discovered that I had been planting in too much sun. This, however, was not an instructive moment for Beard With Glasses, but a chance to display his arrogance, make me feel stupid, and lose my business. Rude rude rude. They have a wide variety of more common and rarer plant specimens for indoors and outdoors, so it's perfect for anyone's needs. Their staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I purchased a macrame plant hanger and when it was too short, I tried to return it. The purchase was only $14.99, but neither of the checkout staff were authorized to approve any returns without a manager. They called for a manager and indicated that help for a return was needed. No manager ever showed during the ensuing 10 minute wait, despite 2 calls. During this time there was no activity at the counter and the place was practically empty. I inquired about the delay and was told that everyone was busy with inventory. I had to leave without getting my return because I was on a tight schedule. Perhaps if the manager had not known that the request was for a return?? They may have a great selection, but they will no longer get my business. read more

To the Management: Have you thought that less fortunate folk might NOT have credit cards? Much less the means to make return trips? Oh yeah forget that as you don't accept returns. Meeting up with our kids, friends and Godchildren at Valley View has been a long running tradition but each year it seems the place is becoming more of a Boutique style shop - big price tags for not a whole lot. Gone are the days where you could grab some ice cold cider (hard or sweet) right from the barrel then load hubby's arm with pumpkins for the pay one price for all you can carry. Sadly the place has lost its charm for me but the kids still love seeing all the trees, each a different theme and of course the display of miniature houses but each time we come certain sections seem like they aren't well managed and stocked (candles for example) and you can never find assistance if you need it. Looks like the time has come to switch up and venture outside our comfort zone. read more

After building multiple garden "rooms" on our 6 acre oasis, I realized that almost everything we've bought (over 50 plants, a fountain, numerous decorative planters etc.) from this place, including the koi !! It's a very large and VERY expensive garden center. Customer service and return policy's are virtually non-existent There are Much better garden centers in Baltimore county. Great selection. Pricey, but convenient and great staff. Has anyone had an issue with their straw coming with grass seed in it? We bought a couple bales, and I thought it would be good quality because they keep it in a shed. However, the place I spread it (to cover flower seeds) is coming up all grass. And the leftover is sprouting a lot of grass. Probably hard to control cross-contamination in a place like that. We haven't been planting grass seed and are out in the woods, so I don't think it's us. read more
