I really like going to Valley View Hot Springs. I love being in my birthday suit when I'm there especially in the water.

Such an awesome 'clothing optional' hot springs! Its unique in the fact that it's primarily all natural, as opposed to other hot springs in Colorado that have formed cement pools and it was really affordable. Valley View is located on a land grant, so they can only accommodate 30 people (?) or so a day. Once they reach the limit, they no longer accept any more, so I loved how intimate and non-crowded it was. Will definitely be back! read more

This is a sacred healing natural resource that deserves much better care and love than the current staff is able to provide. Day use is 11am-8pm -30 minutes before sunset during the summer. The people in the welcome center are rude, condescending and unprofessional. Lots of elderly swingers and creepy energy polluting the waters. A co-ed bathroom which is not safe for women or children. Co-ed springs are fine but I've been approached by creepy men in this bathroom every time I've been there. The bathroom is the most vulnerable place we can go. There's a reason men and women's bathrooms should be separate... Prayers for better management and fixing these issues! read more

This is an amazing place! Beautiful views of the valley with deer, a summer bat colony, birds and other wildlife. The staff were friendly and helpful, facilities were clean, dirt road entrance well maintained, and the clothing optional hot springs fantastic! There are many pools, most of them natural, with varying temperatures. You will share hot springs with others but everyone was very respectful and friendly during our stay. The cedar plank sauna with cooling tub was terrific. They provide showers and restrooms, and an outdoor pavilion with a common area kitchen including appliances and fire ring. We stayed in a trailer at an electric site. There are also tent sites, cabins, and shared dorm-style accommodations. We will be back again soon. Highly recommend! read more

I went here last summer and had the most wonderful time! It feels like a dream when I think back on it, truly paradise. The only other places I've been to that have been "clothing optional" are nude beaches, and there's always some guy who's I have to be wary of because he's creeping on me, so that's why I've never gone to those places without a boyfriend. But I didn't experience ANY of that here- so refreshing! Like I'd actually feel comfortable going by myself! This is part of Orient Land Trust. A clothing optional, rather rustic, mostly natural hot springs overlooking the San Luis Valley. I've been coming here for over 40 years. There is tent and limited RV camping, as well as a few rustic cabins. There is usually a massage therapist on premises in summer. Bring in your food but prepare to keep it secure and away from wildlife. Note that they limit the number of people to keep the land protected, so reservations are strongly recommended before making the drive. There is membership in the Land Trust available that makes it possible to reserve farther in advance than those who just call. The property also has a ranch down in the valley with fresh produce, as well as weekend lunch and brunch in season, and just north, there is a caved-in old iron mine that houses over 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats in the summer. It's a steep hike to get there around sunset, but worth the effort to see the evening outflight. read more

Awesome place. Plan to go back this winter if possible. Pools were amazing, water felt great. Some varied in temp, so you could enjoy soaks for an hour or more without getting too hot. Saw deer at our campsite, two even lay down by our table while we fixed dinner! We saw a large bull snake up at the top pool- probably close to 9000 ft. But of course it can survive because of the hot springs waters. Sauna is really nice and hot, the built in plunge pool is brilliant. Bathrooms/showers are co-ed but you do have privacy when using either the toilet or shower. Our first time clothing optional, but we quickly got used to it and really enjoyed being able to bare all and hike around to the various pools. Pools are "natural" having natural gravel/stone bottoms and sides, so expect some moss and algae. Bottom can be quite slick in some areas. All the people we met in the pools were quite friendly and we had some great conversations. I was expecting mostly older people but in fact most were 40s or younger, including some families with children. The staff were very friendly and quite helpful. read more

Gorgeous sunset hike to the top pond is recommended or you can always catch it at the waterfall pond. One of the most unique and exquisite saunas with a cold plunge. A hidden gem of Colorado. If you're open to a laid back naturalistic and meaningful experience this is the place for you.Very family friendly environment, i was there with my 8 year old son, he Loved that its clothing optional and could run around in the buff all day. Nothing like being able to to be fully natural in nature. Very wide range of people, from little kids to the elderly. We were there on a weekend in August. was probably about 100 adults and 10 kids around the day we were there. i would say 95% of the people took advantage of the clothing optional policy. only saw maybe 5 adults and 1 or 2 of the kids in swimsuits, everyone else went nude. read more

Rustic, clean, safe and beautiful. We stopped by early for a quick hike and dip in the Hotsprings. It was beautiful. We were the only ones in the top pool and the views were stunning. It's a nature preserve, so they also have excellent examples of sustainable living practices. This place is a treasure. read more

This is one of my favorite places to be. I wish I could be there once a week-- but I live in ABQ, NM so it has to be every now and then. If you want to feel connected to the Earth again, if you need some space from your regular world, if you need a spiritual boost- or if you just need hot water on your body and to look at some beautiful and epic views- this is your spot. I've always booked a room and that has been amazing! When I was there last month I saw a couple pull up with their teardrop airstream and camp for the night- making breakfast in the morning and setting out chairs to take in the glorious valley laid out before them. I was so inspired by this magical mini-vacation vibe. I'm going to try and do that exact style of trip one day when I can get my shit together a little more than I have it. They did an amazing job with Covid safety! I felt completely safe and comfortable. People need space and beauty. If you're feeling stuck or weird or struggling with your world, I believe this place will help you. Nature-lovers will feel at home. If you're not comfortable with nudity, probably not for you. Embrace your self and others and enjoy a nice nude foray into mountain side bliss! Or wear a suit the whole time. It really doesn't matter. This is something different then most people will likely experience. The whole vibe caters to people who just want a great place to be themselves and to relax. The soaking pools were awesome (Favorites was the larger natural pool halfway up the trail and the Apple Wood twin pools right at the beginning of the trail). People were great and super engaging. They only let in a fixed amount of people per day which if you plan is awesome, if you don't can be a disappointment by getting turned away. We booked out in advance and paid the fee to be a member. It is worth the extra investment to make sure you get a spot. What was particularly nice was the clothing optional environment where if you are feeling spunky shed the clothes or just go as you wish with bathing suits on. There is no judgement here. Super cool!!!!! All in all, a wonderful experience... be sure to have an open mind and you may just come out with a new PoV :-) read more

Heaven on earth! Valley View truly is as good as it gets. If I could live here full time, I would! There is something for everyone here... the pool temps range from mildly warm to really hot, and they are all spread out over the property. If you feel like being lazy, there are three pools and a sauna right near the Welcome Center; however, it is worth it to take a short hike up to one of the other pools, all of which have beautiful views. Oh, and that sauna? It's AWESOME! The cold plunge is inside the sauna! I had never seen that before! Given that it is inside the sauna, it is not truly cold, but it is still refreshing. There is a variety of lodging, from tent and car camping, to dorms to shared 2 bedroom cabins. They offer tours of their geothermal operations (which power the property), astronomy viewing sessions and a guided hike to the bat cave. I agree with the Yelper that mentioned Harbin and Sierra in CA... Valley View has all of the scenic beauty of those hot springs with none of the irritating woo-woo element. You can talk in the pools, you can use your cellphones, you can drink alcohol and even *gasp* cook meat in the shared kitchens. I found all of the other folks staying at VV to be exceptionally nice and friendly. It is clothing optional, but it is not a "nudie" resort... people just like to soak in the buff and there was no creeper or Hedonism element at all. It is fairly remote, so you do want to bring everything with you for your stay. We stopped at a Safeway in Salida for provisions; Salida is about 40 minutes from Valley View. We also took a side trip to the Great Sand Dunes, just over an hour away from the resort. I also would suggest bringing a robe with you to make it easier (and warmer!) to get from the pools back to your lodging. I cannot wait to book a return visit to this magical place! read more

This place is the real deal! If you want hot springs that are in nature and not in a spa, I highly recommend here. Everyone is really nice and they even have a sauna and kitchen area. I brought my dog and he was super content being tied to trees while I soaked. This is probably the most amazing place I have been to in CO. The Valley View Hot Springs are located on the Orient Land Trust, on Country Road GG. This is a clothing optional facility, where I felt respected and totally safe. There are many natural ponds to choose from; some are pretty small and shallow, while others are almost pool-size. The "top ponds" have the best view, but get ready for a fairly steep hike that might be quite muddy in the spring. There is also a traditional pool that is filled with warm spring water, but it tends to be the coldest of the lot. By the pool, there is a small sauna; what makes this sauna so awesome is that there is a built-in cooling pool inside, also filled with spring water. There are several over-night options. You can get a bed in the communal room in Oak House for only $6 a night, or you can rent a private room, a cabin, stay in a tent or sleep in your car. The cost for these options varies, depending on the season, with winter being the cheaper option. I stayed in the communal room and had a very good experience with the people there; everyone was super friendly and respectful of my space and stuff. The room also has extra blankets and pillows and is filled with books and tons of games and puzzles for all ages! The Welcome Center also provides *free* hot cocoa, tea, coffee and instant oatmeal; their doors are always open so if you've been soaking till 2am and want a little snack, it is available. Because this hot spring is on a land trust, there is minimal development and almost no light pollution. If you are staying overnight, you have unlimited access to the ponds and can enjoy them under a full moon, which is highly recommended! There is plenty of wildlife. During my stay, we swam in a pond with two mule deer grazing just feet away, ground squirrels looking at us curiously and bright blue Stellar's Jays flying over our heads. We even saw Pronghorn Antelope in the distance. If you are a fan of hot springs, this is one you MUST visit! So beautiful and peaceful. read more

Finding this place was like solving a riddle. I have heard about this place since I moved to CO 9 years ago. Three people have told me about how beautiful and magical this place is, but never told me the name! Well, after putting all the pieces together...we found Valley View, and SO glad we did. My husband and I needed some well overdue R&R, so we headed south to soak. Driving up to the hot springs was so exciting, I had butterflies in my stomach because I didn't know what to expect. I had heard so much about it, I was hoping it wouldn't disappoint. Also, the clothing optional part kinda had me a bit nervous too...at first. We rented the Aspen cabin for the night. We got in and unpacked. I remember letting out a deep breathe, this is just what I needed. No TV, no radio, dim lights, and a mattress under an amazing skylight. It was like being in a tree house. I could see the stars and the moon at night while I fell asleep. The sky is so big and the stars are so bright outside the city. You almost forget! We headed to the ponds immediately. Funny, we put our bathing suites on, got the the "party pool" and yes, we were the only ones with clothes on! We soaked in that pond for hours. The water felt great. It was just the right temperature. It felt like we were in an infinity pool, overlooking the huge San Luis Valley. Eventually, the suites came off!! We did some hiking and exploring around and then headed to our cabin for a bite to eat. There is a lot of land here, and there are several hiking trails. There is a bat cave you can hike to as well. During the summer to fall there are hundreds of bats that come up from New Mexico, and it sounds like it is worth the hike to see. There are communal bathrooms with showers and a communal kitchen area. The bathrooms are really nice and clean. We didn't use the kitchen area. There are small fridge's in the cabins though. Later that night we soaked in the hot tub, which was really hot! 105 degrees!! We jumped in the main pool after to cool down. There is also a sauna next to the pool and they are building a steam room later this year. We watched the sunrise the next morning over the valley in a pond that had a warm waterfall filling it up. It was one of the most amazing moments I have ever experienced. It was so hard to leave. I highly, highly recommend this place to anyone seeking some serious rest and relaxation. This place is not for everyone though. Go with an open mind, and a sense of discovering something special, and you will be going back for years to come. I know I will! It was Awful camping next to the smoking shack. The smell of cigarette smoke wafted into our camp morning through late at night. Worse was the noise. People hang out there to party and the noise of loud conversation goes on all day long and into the night. We were shushed out of the Pavilion one night because the Pavilion host said that people staying nearby were "complaining about the noise," but there doesn't seem to be any courtesy by the smokers for the people camped near the smoking shack. Move the smokers away from others, up to camp site H. It seems that the Camp Hosts are tethered to the smoking shack too, so move them up to camp site I where they can bang on their drums and have loud conversation all night too. If you don't want to be near the smoke shack, avoid camp sites B, C & D. The hot pools aren't big enough. Most people want to be in a hot springs at a temperature between 102 - 104 degrees. There are only two small pools at this temperature and they are always crowded. Otherwise this place is pretty cool otherwise I would have given it one star. read more

If you want a secluded, relaxing vacation, you need to come here. Scenery is amazing and the communal kitchen was a blast. Strangers came together, played guitars and made food together. We spent 4 days here and could have stayed longer. The pool is spotless and all of the springs are well maintained. It is clothing optional with about half the people being nude. read more

I'm a hardcore hot springs junkie and nudist... and I really liked this place! If you've ever been to Harbin or Sierra in California, you;ll understand what I mean when I say that this place is similar, but BETTER because it's less sanctimonious -- instead of blanket "NO TALKING" or "NO CELLPHONE" rules, they are realistic about it, and ask that you use common sense and sensibility. That went a LONG way with me! Other than that, the pools themselves are also superior to Harbin/Sierra in my book -- almost all are natural rock-lined, gravel-bottomed ponds in the woods or meadows. Though most are disappointingly lukewarm (under 100 degrees), there are two hot ones in a grove of apple trees that are AMAZING! There is also a full-size swimming pool and a sauna, much like Harbin....but the sauna here has a cold plunge INSIDE it! There's also a music room stocked full of wacky instruments and games, and a nice library/lounge in the main office, with great WiFi and free coffee and oatmeal in the morning. There is usually a bonfire in the Pavilion every evening, with free s'mores. If s'mores aren't your bag, there's also a communal kitchen where you can cook your kale chips or whatever, and plenty of seating all around. Really a cool vibe! The only downside to this place is the reservation system. If you aren't a member, you can't reserve a spot more than 24 hours in advance...and that's problematic, because this place fills up! They only allot something like 25 day passes and a similar amount of campsites. So you risk driving ALL THE WAY out here (it's pretty remote) and not getting a spot :/ I camped here for 2 nights, and the campsites were fine -- in the woods, with a picnic table and nothing else. The bathrooms are nearby and are full service, with hot showers and sinks and flush toilets. Very clean, too. If camping isn't your scene, there are also a few cabins for rent, and a bunkhouse with dorm-style beds. Overall, a beautiful place that I would definitely visit again! read more

Everyone but the four in my group was naked. It was awkward since I'm apparently a bit more modest and I wasn't sure where to rest my eyes. The springs themselves are very pretty and warm (not hot, but warm). Most of the ponds are within a short walk from each other. They have some algae blobs floating around in them but that didn't bother anyone very much. There are also some snails in the ponds going to work on the algae. I suppose this should be expected since we were out in nature. The view of the mountains while you are soaking is well worth it. The large pool is amazing. Eight feet deep in some places and about 2 feet in other. The pool has a bit of algae growing in it too since its fed from the springs. There is a diving board on the deeper end and the pool is huge in case you want some space. The sauna is pretty cool. Lots of seating area with a small water area you can sit in if you want to cool off and stay in the sauna. I have to say though, I didn't see too many people sitting on towels in the sauna. That grossed me out a bit. I though there was an unspoken rule about keeping a barrier between your butt (particularly when you are nude) and the public access place you are sitting on. Also, a lady was doing yoga in the sauna in her birthday suit. I didn't see it, but my sister did and we giggled like children. I would say this place is worth the drive. It was the most gorgeous drive through the mountains to get there. Once there the people were all so welcoming and friendly. We tried every pool and loved the waterfall one the best. Yeh, if you'll notice, the majority of reviews are positive, with a couple of negative ones. If you go and just enjoy V V as it is, you'll love it, and if you go with a critical eye or overblown expectations, you may not. If it stinks everywhere you walk, you might want to check your own shoe. I took my two teenage kids there last summer, and we had a good time, although they were a bit grossed out with the naked older adults roaming around. This place is not a 21st century spa, just a funkily beautiful, unique sacred hot springs on the side of a mountain, where you can do your own thing or be social, with or without clothing. I recommend it, at least once, to see if the above mentioned shoe, fits. read more

I've heard of Valley view for years and it lives up to its reputation. While the pools aren't all super hot, there is something for everyone. Accommodations are rustic but everything is close. Clothing optional for some is too much so I say stay away if it bothers you. Camping is a nice way to go. I'm staying in one of the cabins with a kitchenette. There's no spa, so don't even bother if you're the type who likes to get a treatment along with a soak. If you're not Into the community sharing thing like we are, a cabin or camping is the way to go. The only reason it's not 5 stars is the fact that there's only one pool that's hot. Really had a great time here. The entire facility is clothing-optional, and they have something like 8 natural pools, all at differing temperatures, and you have to walk along a path to get to several, but the signage is terrible! Once you wander around a bit, though, you can tell it's not as vast as it seems. We took our dog and relaxed in a pool until the bat tour at 6:30. If you want to be in the pools at/after nightfall and you're a day visitor, skip this (you have to leave by 10pm). You get up to the top at about 8 pm and wait for the bats to fly out. They came out at 8:50 for us. Beautiful views with the sunset. They don't have food, so you need to make sure to bring your own. They sell some snacks. read more

We went last weekend for World Naked Gardening Day! Anyone that rates this place less than 5 stars is an elitist snob. Yes the natural pools are beautiful but not extremely hot but that is all made clear at sign in. Yes, you actually have to "walk" (less than .25mi.) to the natural ponds. If this is a "burden" for you then you should probably remain on your couch. OLT is the pinnacle of conservation, history and restoration. This is the REAL Colorado. Love this sanctuary! I was freaked out with the "clothing optional" thing but it works. This is a family friendly establishment so allowing nudity only adds to the natural experience and is no way sexual. I have tried both tent and dorm accommodations, both of which are exceptional. Overall, the property which is powered by hydroelectricity, is perfectly maintained and operates like a "well oiled machine". There's a great history behind this place which you can learn about by reading the tidbits of information located throughout the Bat Cave Trail. This trail is short but steep so be prepared with proper shoes and lots of water. You will not be disappointed when you arrive at the caves; they are amazing. The bats arrive after Memorial Day and are in no way dangerous. In fact, they consume so many insects from the area drastically minimizing bug bites which are usually rampant around warm water. I would still bring some repellent as you could get bitten if you are staying in the tent area. The property offers two, well equipped community kitchens (including fridge/freezers, microwaves, ovens, stoves and all cooking/eating utensils). The outdoor kitchen/pavilion is complete with views of the valley, ample seating and a fire ring which is utilized by the Camp Host on summer evenings at 7:30pm. Usually complimentary s'mores are available at this time. Restricting amplified music adds to the tranquility of the property however there are many occasions when musicians bring their instruments to the pavilion to jam by the fire or in the Oak Lodge community living room (there's a piano here). The pools are all beautiful and can vary in temperature depending on the weather. I prefer to in early spring as I found it way too hot for day soaking in June but some prefer summer soaking. The dry sauna is the best I've ever seen and the a small pool inside of it makes the heat comfortable as you can take a quick dip to cool off while inside. Even though I live 3.5 hours away, I've become quite the regular. I find the staff welcoming, accommodating and just genuinely friendly; especially Stephanie, Tina and Doug. This place sucks. There are dead animals in the water, naked homeless people wandering around, and the employees were obviously very high. One of them wrote down my credit card number after saying the system was broken! It later got stolen, and I don't think this was a coincidence. The property is also taken care of very poorly, there is trash everywhere and it is not an enjoyable place to be. Would not go ever again and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I've been to the Orient Land Trust many times over the past 9 years and always had a good experience. I've been a member at several points and recently came for day use on 6/3/18. I showered before I left and then found myself itching all night long. I woke up with a severe rash all over my body. The urgent care diagnosed me with hot tub folliculitis. I calmly called Valley View to inform them as I assumed that would like to know there was a problem with the water at that time. There was no apology offered but rather a reading to me of their liability waiver. I let them know I didn't mean any harm but would appreciate a refund of my $15 as a curtesy gesture. I was told the employee did not have this power and that the director would call me back. I received a very rude call back from Doug Bishop, their director, who told me he could offer me a refund and put me on a do not admit list. I let him know I did not need to be on any list and didn't need a refund at that cost but rather I viewed this as a customer service issue where a refund might be given as a polite gesture. Also, I should mention I am 23 weeks pregnant and waking up to a full body rash is increasingly alarming when also pregnant. I informed the director of this additional risk and he showed no concern saying, "Well why has no one else called about a rash?" I reminded him that it was only 10am and they had been open for 1hour. Honestly, I'm blown away by their ineptitude at customer service and their director's rude attempt at skirting responsibility for a very unfortunate situation. Initially I was shocked that I might be put on a do not admit list but now I will happily not return as I have experienced the undertone of Orient Land Trust and their care for patrons. read more

One of the best hot springs we have ever been to. The drive is unmarked and gorgeous. We lost our gps about half way to VV so write down where to turn off the main road. 7 mile Dirt road wasn't a bad drive, well maintained. People in registration were awesome and so sweet! We went with our 3 and 5 year olds and this place is SO family friendly!! We were very aware of being quiet and respecting people's personal space, which is important when bringing kids. Main pool was warm and mostly shaded! The other pools were too hot for the kids but fun for a quick dip! We LOVED our time at valley view and would recommend their day use to everyone. Call weeks in advance though to make a reservation as they fill up FAST! read more

First of all, it's super hard to find. My friend and I arrived 8:20pm and the springs close at 10. The lady said their rules had recently changed and we had to arrive at 8pm sharp in order to get a day pass. There was no notice on the website and she was SUPER rude. Then she proceeded to say we had to purchase a $70 campsite pass in order to go into the springs. We drove 40 mins to Valley View from Salida and they denied us entry. love these hot springs .We camped here , and loved the natural springs. The people we great and we enjoyed it .
