These hotsprings are south of Salida. Not much nearby so they do offer a dinner and breakfast to people who stay at their hotel. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room was nice. Large with lots of space. there were chairs near front door to sit outside. In addition, the rooms had a concrete patio out back with two chairs set up, looking at the mountains[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We did try to sit outside but there were a lot of bugs. To be expected. The kitchen staff were nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The meals were okay, nothing special, but they fill you up while there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't walk around the entire hotsprings area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we walked into the pool area, there was one hotspring that was packed with people, so we kept walking towards the back, where the extremely hot pool (109 degrees) was located.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] it is summer and it was already hot out, so I couldn't submerge, but I sat with my feet and legs in the water for a bit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did see a cool pool and two hot tubs in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]by the time we moved to a new pool, we were able to get into the first pool we saw and that was around 99 degrees. hot enough. but half of the pool was standing room only, and the other half had a bench. it would have been nice if the whole pool had a bench[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were great views of the mountains from the two pools we sat in. The fence around the pools was actually made of glass panels so that you could see out[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were a little disappointed this trip with "too many soaking, some children soaking, and the bathroom next to the pools was not clean at all. if i owned it I would have the bathrooms by pools cleaned hourly. In the case of Joyful Journey Hot Springs in Moffat, CO, let's just say that I really don't understand the favorable reviews. My husband, I, our daughter, and her friend were there on Thursday evening. We stayed in two yurts. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The yurts were okay, what I'd expect, and clean enough.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was pleasant. Beyond that, though, it was a very DISAPPOINTING to DOWNRIGHT GROSS experience. If you care about proper food handling or the soaking experience itself, you'll want to read further. I'll start with the food. Each person who stays overnight gets breakfast and dinner. The one night we stayed, the dinner option included a salad, ravioli or lasagna, dinner roll, and pineapple upside-down cake. We sat at a table where we could see what was going on in the kitchen. Here's what we saw: 1. Salad ingredients being deposited on the plates by hand and without gloves 2. Slices of pineapple upside-down cake being fingered (shaped) by gloveless hands The salad itself appeared old and wilted. There was a long, black hair on one of our ravioli bowls. We took a picture of it. Because we couldn't stomach it, we all ate very little, dumping much of the meal into the trash. (Thank goodness we brought snack food!) The next morning, we decided to forgo eating any breakfast items that might be handled without gloves, so we stuck to packets of oatmeal and the pancake machine. It seems the county needs to send out an inspector and review food-handling practices with the staff. Now to the soaking itself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as we could tell, there were three small inset pools and a four-person hot tub.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]All but one pool was virtually empty. The other one was filled with bodies, maybe ten at the time we toured, with little to no room to spare.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The reason the others were empty is that they were at bathwater temperatures, including the "hot" tub.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My husband, daughter, and her friend decided to try soaking in the "hot" tub. (I stayed back in the yurt.) My husband reported that the "hot" tub temperature was 99 degrees, as reported to him by a staff member who came to check on the temperature while they were in the tub. She noticed that it was too low and said that she'd turn it up. My husband and daughter report that the "hot" tub did not get any hotter. This experience, obviously not a good one, cost us approximately $550 for the night. I would never return to this place. Unless you, reader, like lukewarm soaking in small tubs with tons of people, and your food being handled (actually handled) without gloves, I would suggest going somewhere else. read more

I was wanting to love this place, but it does has its plus and minuses. As other reviews have mentioned it can be crowded here as there are 5 tubs available. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The private hours for overnight guests to use the tubs is limited to 2 1/2 hours in the morning before the day guests arrive at 9:50.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The most positive part of our stay was the great kitchen staff, and the wonderful food provided in the morning and at dinner time. A special shout out to Mary and Tumara for taking care of us!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We camped in an electric RV site, there are 10 of these out in a large gravel parking lot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We have a very small teardrop trailer which has a 5 x 7 footprint tent which is 7 feet tall and attaches to our trailer. We set up our camp and looked for a fire pit that was to be supplied with the campsite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After looking around we realized the only fire pits that they had were pretty much destroyed and I had to cobble together a few different ones to make one complete fire pit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I went to the front desk and ask them if I could get some help moving it they said I was on my own doing this and I could take care of that myself. In short, the check-in process and the front desk is not a great asset at this property between the litany of rules read to us by an older woman and the unwillingness to help a guest on the part of a young girl. An issue arose today when we went to check out, one of the front desk staff, the older lady who had checked us in, yelled at us from across the parking lot asking us about our tent although we had been there for three full days and it's part of our set up. She said tents are forbidden in the RV area but she did not state this when we checked and it is not listed in their rules. I followed up with her in the office to try to explain that this is a tiny trailer that has no privacy when you come out of it, the only privacy we have is this very small 5x7 side tent. She said that the tent was not allowed because she was concerned about us being run over, this seems very strange to me. Do they have a problem with people in the past running over people in their RV parking lot?? At no time during check in or while we were there were we alerted that we were not supposed to have a side tent. It seemed strange for her to complain about this on the last day of our stay. Needless to say, although we had the option to soak in till 6 PM today we did not feel welcome at that point, and I did not want to deal with interacting with her all day. It just made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Overall, the people in the kitchen were awesome the guests that we met were amazing!! However, this one person at the front desk made our whole experience not so great. They need to explain or print their rules clearly, we had no idea that we were violating any sort of rules. Again, I tried to explain to her that it is pretty commonplace for people who have tiny trailers to have side tents, but she didn't want to listen to that, she seems to prefer people who have gigantic trailers or vans. Beware if you go there with your little, tiny trailer. What could've had a great stay ended on a sour note and we will not return here. Next time we will visit Valley View Hot Springs just a couple miles away instead of returning here! read more

We came for just the day, to soak. I had my 18 month old, which is awesome, because they are family friendly! There are buckets and baby pools near the soaking pools that you can pull water from to then put into the baby pool for the littles. They offer 4 different spring fed pools, and a few hot tubs, all with varying temperatures. There is also pool noodles for you to use, plenty of seating and lounge chairs available. There is a dry sauna and towels available for rent. The view alone was worth it, to just soak and take in the view of the San Juan Mountains. Wow. So healing! The noise level was manageable, I think people were respectful of the signs. The hottest pool does say quiet zone, and I had no issues with people not respecting this. There are water coolers if you need to refill your bottle, and cups available. The changing room was clean, lockers available and showers too. We packed a picnic, after our soak, we ate our lunch near the campsites, then made our way back to Lake City. Staff were super friendly. read more

This hot spring/ spa is amazing! You can stay overnight in a yurt/teepee or camp or just come for the day and soak which was $15/person. There are 3 hot springs pools and 2 hot tubs which vary in temperature. The hottest I think was around 104/106 and it was my favorite. There was an amazing view of the San Juan mountains and it was a beautiful sunny day! I came on a Saturday so it was relatively busy, but not too bad. There's also a sauna which was full, so I didn't get to try it, and they offer some services like massage. I thought it said they had a restaurant online but I think it might be closed. We drive hours to get here and it's been a great experience every time. My family and I have visited in both the winter and summer and it's truly a beautiful place. We have never stayed overnight but definitely considering it. The pools are SMALL and INTIMATE! Not like the public dirty pool vibes the other springs have to offer. So psyched someone told us about this place! I hadn't realized it's en route to the Great Sand Dunes National Park! Oh well, next time we'll have to plan a trip to the Great Sand Dunes and stay in a yurt at Joyful Journey! Make sure to call way ahead as even when I did a month out all the yurts were fulled booked! Check in was a breeze and besides a couple of flies here and there on site, I had nothing else to complain. Your stay here grants you access to all the soaking and it includes dinner and breakfast! Since the nearest small town is 15 miles away with eateries closing down early. We surprised even ourselves for filling up and liking the vegetarian dinner (soups, vegetable salad, rice salad, pasta salad, fruits, bread, yum!) There's no shortage of activities before or after dinner. We walked around the big labyrinth before sundown and got to soaking afterwards. There are 3 pools with varying temperature and to be able to do that with the beautiful night as a backdrop... it's guaranteed to give you a good night of sleep! Our rooms are good. Especially enjoyed the toiletries - soaps/lotions are from the organic EO brand. Bath robes are included for your soaking needs. Everything they do at Joyful Journey just spells THOUGHTFUL. I've been wanting to try this place. We made a reservation the day before no problem between 12-2pm. But Because of being so spacey the day of we ran late due to me leaving my towel & bathing suit bag at home! I tried to change our reservation to later in the day but it was booked. They did offer a towel & bathing suit rental which was nice but yuck no thank you. I think they said they're limiting 15 guests per time slot but we were surprised to see the size of the pools. We went to the one that looked less crowded which was the hottest pool but that was ok. When making the reservation I asked if refreshments were available or could we bring a cooler & they said they have some snacks available but by all means bring a cooler if you like so that's what we did. Even though we got there 30 mins late, an hour was plenty of time to enjoy the springs. In fact, my husband said he couldn't take any longer since he got so hot! There are three soaking pools and a sauna. There are many activities such as yoga, painting, massages, facials, stained glass, and more! You can be as active or relaxed as you want! There's a labyrinth and meditation hill in the back part of the property. Breakfast and dinner are served daily for all guests. In the event you need to work there's great WiFi. You can choose to stay in the lodge, yurt, personal tent, RV, and tee pees are set up seasonally. I highly recommend this place. So we just went here after having gone to The Valley View Hot Springs (which is just thirty minutes away from here) last year and I have to say I was a little disappointed after how beautiful it was at Valley View, and how natural the hot springs were. Here the hot spring are literally just three small swimming pools almost on top of each other. And on top of that this place is thirty dollars more for two people to stay one night for camping, compared to Valley View which is seventy dollars for two people camping as well! I just wasn't very impressed when a much better hot spring is so close by and cheaper, you should go there instead! read more

I had an OK experience here. The staff here were really sweet and kind. I took off two stars because it was hard to unwind and relax when the quiet policy was not honored by the other guests. The other guests were talking incredibly loudly during my entire 2 hours here, and I was really irritated at this. The natural mineral pools felt a bit artificial, with the swimming pool structure. I would say I couldn't really feel much of a difference before and after. My feedback would be to incorporate a quiet zone policy to allow all guests to enjoy quiet and silence while they are soaking, Crestone is a long way off from other places and people journey here to introspect and relax. read more

We came here in the freezing cold on the day before Christmas, and elected to stay in a yurt upon our friends' recommendation for a once in a lifetime experience. Jumping out of the intensely hot outdoor spring into the freezing cold walkway paved with gravel ice was a unique experience. The atmosphere there was aptly described as hippie hipster. While the entrance and drive in from the highway are totally unassuming, Joyful Journey is a hidden gem and relaxing getaway spot just 3h from Denver and 2.5h from Colorado Springs. We chose to stay in the hotel rooms and were completely pleased with our stay. Comfy beds, clean everything, above average breakfast and organic/natural bath and cleaning products were highlights. No TV or extra fancy anything but the outdoors are the real draw here! The mineral springs themselves are wonderful and open from early (730am) til well past sunset (10pm) to allow for lots of gorgeous background moments. There are 3 pools of varying temps as well as a sauna and cold plunge shower available for guests. The mineral makeup of the springs is really unique-no sulfur smell at all is a huge plus! Locker rooms are pretty old school spartan/standard but kept warm and clean. Staff is very helpful and patient and the grounds (labyrinth, greenhouse, yurts) are worth exploring. I had a campsite for one night for about $80 which included breakfast & dinner, classes, soaking day of check-in & check-out, full shower/bathroom facilities, & kitchen facilities. Breakfast was very hardy, with a ton of options. For dinner there was soup & salad, with an optional $5 burger plate. I attended an evening relaxation class, & morning QiGong class. I don't practice either of these activities, but the instructors were very kind & patient even though I was a newby. The only thing I would alter would be having a designated family/kid-friendly pool. I would highly recommend using this as a place to relax & clean up after visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park (approximately 1 hour away). I will definitely be back. They offered 21% discount in 2021 through Feb. 5th. I asked if they would extend the discount by one day since I was coming to Joyful Journey Hot Springs to commemorate my mom's 3rd anniversary of her passing. I was told that they would honor that. I called a few days before my arrival to ask about how the payment for my massage work. (The massage therapist accepted my credit card and he received the whole tip.) I was informed that the 21% discount would not be honored for my second night. After threatening to cancel my stay, I was informed that they would give me 14% discount, which is normally only applied to week nights in February. I had two friends scheduled to spend the second night with me. I specifically asked about their bathrobes when I checked in. I was told that two bathrobes would be available. The next day, when they arrived, I asked housekeeping for two robes. Nothing came to my room. Then I called the front desk. The bathrobes arrived within minutes without any ties. I was informed that they would deliver the bathrobe ties within an hour. Two hours later, the bathrobe ties had not arrived. I had to call the front desk again. The bathrobe ties arrived within minutes. Also, I was significantly disappointed that my friends' robes were not of the same quality that I had. Their robes were worn out and raggedy. When housekeeping tidied up the room, on my second day, they did not leave a roll of toilet paper on the toilet tank. We ran out in the middle of the night. One of my friends went to her car to get her emergency roll of TP. I called the front desk at 7am on Sunday morning. No one called me back. When I was in the lobby, on my way to the hot springs, I informed them of the lack of TP. They called housekeeping and it was delivered within 45 minutes. I spend a lot of time requesting items that should have been automatically provided. Notice the pattern - I had to ask 2-3 times every time for the items I needed. The goods things were: * Excellent food *Superior service in the dining room *The hot springs were the perfect temperature. I provided Joyful Journey an opportunity to make things right with me. I specifically asked for a refund. They did call me the next morning and informed me that they do not provide refunds. They offered me 20% discount if I returned. I thought that was weird. Why would I spend more money to stay at a place that did NOT treat me right the first time? Personally, my favorite hot springs are Cottonwood Hot Springs (Buena Vista), Sunwater Spa (Manitou Springs), Strawberry Park Hot Springs, (Steamboat Springs). read more

The pools and the grounds are beautiful... The yurt is cute and the views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains are spectacular. But the customer service really messed up my experience in a few ways. I booked a yurt here for my birthday. A dinner and breakfast is included in the price. When I made the reservation I was told that if we are arriving late to just call and they would set aside dinner for us. When I called to let them know I would be arriving on the late side, first they said our reservation had been cancelled with no explanation. The guy on the phone didn't seem too interested to help me find an alternative, but eventually made something work. He still said they would set aside our dinners in a to-go box for us since dinner is only served until 8 and we would be arriving around then. Upon arriving, we looked for our dinner in the guest fridge where they indicated and couldn't find it. The guy seemed rather disinterested and told us to look again. We still didn't find it. We wanted to soak since the pools would close in less than an hour and he said he'd see what he could find. When we got done soaking, he informed us that no food had been made for us. He told us we could take our choice from the chips, microwave burritos and ice cream in the freezer. We didn't starve, but our experience certainly could've been better. I'm not sure where the disconnect happened and I hope management works to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen to others. It would be great if they offer to comp part of the expense of our stay or something. I've heard of this place for years and am so disappointed that this is my experience. We found joyful online looking for yoga classes in the area! We just could not believe our eyes that we could do Yoga, eat breakfast and get an all day pass to the Hot Springs for only $28!! A quick call to the resort we spoke with a very friendly knowledgable receptionist. There was a little bit of a drive but well worth it to be in the San Luis Valley with a view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains! Breathtaking! Our yoga instructor Nancy was very welcoming, so nice & opened our eyes to a different asana yoga! We laid our mats in a beautiful room with a fireplace and proceeded to do a different kind of yoga, but suited to our needs and we laughed a lot and felt amazing!! After we were delighted with healthy options for breakfast, including an amazing gluten-free huevos rancheros. With our bodies and bellies happy we walked over to the hot springs. What a wonderful selection of temperatures. There are three main pools, two hot tubs, sauna and a cold plunge. We enjoyed every single amenity and loved it! The mineral content at these Hot Springs is phenomenal! Highly recommend!!! Thank you Nancy and Joyful Journey Hot Springs for a wonderful experience. We will be back! ;) read more

Never Again. Wow, first overall the place is over priced for what you get. 3 soaking pools just slightly bigger than an average hot tub. There arent very many chairs or places to keep your stuff. It was raining the whole time we were there so unfortunately we had to use the smelly lockers from 1970. Each bathroom had 2 stalls, which did not even lock. The drains in the "locker room" made me gag!! We paid $85 bucks for a ti-pee. Yep a Ti-pee, so I was thinking a little better than camping. Absolutly not.Our door never closed, as it was missing most of the tie outs. We spoke to the Front Desk, they didnt care and said they would call maintenance. Apparently maintenance was missing for 5 hours from the time we complained as they never came. Do to this issue there were red ants everywhere! You can tell they used Raid on them since there were so many dead ones, but come on, sweep them up. the concrete pad does not cover the whole tipee so you can sweep them onto the dirt. The 24 hour bathhouse also only had 2 stalls, with shower curtains as doors. Never again and will not ever recommend. Keep driving and head down to Hooper Pool. read more

3 wonderful peaceful nights in our RV (electric only) at a remote relaxing little village with 3 hot springs pools. overnights include breakfast and dinner. food ok and toward the healthy side! priced reasonably. we loved the massages and quiet time by pool. pet friendly. also have planned retreats in yoga, meditation, spirituality for those interested. we visited Crestone nearby and Sand Dunes National Park. all very interesting. a very nice short getaway. read more

This review is for the hot springs only, and not the accommodations. Visited Crestone for a getaway weekend, and was hoping to experience some of the local hot springs. Unfortunately Valley View was completely booked up, so we went to Joyful Journey as a next resort. This place exceeded my expectations, and I'd happily go back. We visited on a Saturday night in February, and there were a reasonable number of people there. We paid $15 each, and we'd brought our own towels so we avoid a $2/towel charge. They have three pools with varying temps - 98°-100°, 102°-105°, and 105°-108° (or something very close to these). They came out and tested the water temps a couple times we were there, and the advertised temps were right on the money. I also appreciated that the pools had wind barriers surrounding them, because it made a huge difference. And they even have a dry sauna you can sit in, which we did at the end). In the landscape of Colorado hot springs resorts, it definitely earns its 4-stars. read more

Joyful Jouney is a great find in the middle the beautiful nowhere. We stayed in a yurt. It has one queen bed and in general was very roomy. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. They also have hotel style rooms and tipis. The view the whole time was undescribably amazing. There are three hot spring pools. They are a little small we learned in the evening. Our daytime was almost all alone, but the night brought about 15 more people. Overall, it was a fantastic time with great people. Oh, and we got dinner (soup and salad from their greenhouse) and breakfast (eggs, burrito, cereal and yogurt). read more

We were visiting the great sand dunes national park and heard this hot springs is close by, so we decided to check it out in the evening. The drive from the dunes to the hot springs was absolutely beautiful. The road is straight and flat with mountains on both sides. The resort has yurt, camp site, as well as regular hotel rooms. The price for soaking is $12 for adults. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. They have three pools. The temperature ranges from 98-108F. We went there on a July evening after 7pm. The hottest pool was still a little too hot for me around that time, but the other two pools were perfect. They let you rent for swimsuit and towel for $1 each. A note on the swimsuit though: lady's swimsuits were mostly in M or L sizes and they were pretty stretched out. You can bring snack while you chill by the pools.
