Life saver and more! Listen up! What can I say?! You are driving up or down Highway 15 to or from Las Vegas. You've been drinking lots of coffee to keep you alert behind the wheel, and BAM! All systems alerts rush to your head, letting you know it is stop and unload, or else! Most of us do not care about flooding while behind the wheels of our cars, so then the brain goes wild! All you can think of is "Where?" and then you see the Valley Wells Rest Stop sign! Get it?! Your heart is beating, you are getting muscle cramps, your brain is foggy, and all you can do is pull over into a spot and park! You're lucky if you remember to lock the car doors, but you do not run because you want to look cool! Once done and on your way back to the car, the place looks like heaven on earth to you, and that is why I am giving it a 4-star!

3 stars, because it is better than using the side of the road. Quality/Quantity - The men's bathroom was disgusting! Out of the 6 sinks, only 2 worked. All urinals were broken. And the toilets were clogged and probably overflowed at one time. The women's bathroom had NO soap. So I had to bring some to both my wife and daughter. Atmosphere - Saw 3 employees working so hard cleaning the concrete floors, scrubbing, washing, etc. Can one of you check out the bathroom? Or is that a different department? Plenty of cars and 18 wheeler parking. Picnic area. Vending machines. Overall the outside looks great, just don't go inside to use the facilities. Service - None. Self service. Price - Free, sometimes you just get what you pay for. Owner Comment - Management needs to visit this location!

Location is North of Baker California and The Nevada State Line. On a Thursday afternoon, there was a line to use the men's room. Why? Because over 50% of stall for men were out of order. The was a line extended outside of the women's restrooms waiting to use the facilities. Talk about your "piss poor" situations.

Such a godsend of a rest stop/location to use the restroom. The janitor was super friendly and kept the restrooms super tidy and clean. The crows here are HUGE haha. Clean tables for folks to sit and to eat/drink outside. It is COLD and windy around 7:00 AM.

I just barely left Vegas, and I didn't project a needed break until maybe Barstow, but my bladder forced an "uh-oh" moment. (Totally my fault, I should have gone before leaving.) The sign says it's 15 miles out and since there wasn't any traffic, I got here in no time. Of course, with my luck, the only available stall had a broken lock, but no biggie. Another one was available seconds later. The whole place is a bit dated but bears no relevance because it is CLEAN. Nothing is more important more especially during these pandemic times. Sanitation will always come out on top. I mean... who really cares what a public bathroom looks like: if it's clean and provides privacy, all is good. Couldn't be more grateful it's here, especially at that time of need!

If you absolutely have to relieve yourself then by all means stop here but know in advance it is absolutely filthy and poorly kept. It is rife with graffiti, floors are grossly unkept and soaked with urine and the odor is extremely strong. Only three bathroom stalls for a well travelled highway (one was out of order). Thankfully we were traveling on a Sunday afternoon opposite the crowd coming from Vegas. I can't imagine the wait for a stall on a busy weekend. Hold it until you check in at your hotel if you can!

Had to stop here great rest area from Vegas to Cali with the hubby really clean restrooms a must stop

Really nice rest area with lots of picnic tables, vending machines and the bathrooms are pretty clean too. Lots of space and parking spots

    What a great background.

This place is packed for women and you can use portable rooms. You might be able to use men room.

This is just a review of the Women's restroom - Only 3/7 toilets and 1/4 sinks were working. But was clean.

On Saturday 03/30/2024, the 15 Freeway northbound heading to Las Vegas was closed for several hours…read moredue to a traffic collision unfortunately. Hence, we had to take a detour and use an alternate route. Highway 40 was one of the routes and my intuition said to take it. It was already late in the evening and it was raining. As much as I would have preferred not to get wet in the rain, I knew we had to stop at least once for a potty break LOL. After an hour plus of driving, we arrived at this rest area. I was surprised it had an official name for it... John Wilkie Rest Area. Anyway, we got lucky as it was sprinkling just a tiny bit at the time. We quickly used the women's restroom and went our merry way. It was clean and well stocked for the most part. There are only 4 stalls. One of them was out of commission so only 3 available for use at the time. From what I saw even in the dark LOL, it's a well kept and maintained rest area with picnic benches covered and uncovered for use... nice!!! Do stop by if you need a rest and/or potty break because it'll be another hour or so before the next rest area. Safe and happy travels!!!

That large Dr. Pepper with free refills you enjoyed in Seligman, AZ has yelled "Margin cal, good…read moresir!" and you've just screamed past the last turnoff before the Colorado River heralds your arrival in California. Squirming in your seat, and hoping the border checkpoint line isn't too long, you suddenly remember the John Wilkie Rest Area, and announce "I'm gonna make it!" to no one in particular. John Wilkie was a CALTRANS superintendent, who advocated for workers with disabilities. Through his vision, people with disabilities were included in work forces, building and supporting infrastructure and roadside rest stops like this one. Mind you, if the whole outfit was a pile of cat litter and a garden spade, that would still be a better option then stopping in Needles, California. Thankfully, this rest stop is well-maintained, clean, and modern. As with most remote places, best to keep your wits about you, particularly under the cover of night. Situational awareness, that sort of thing... But for the most part, this is a lot safer than stopping on the side of the highway, and trying to duck behind a tumble weed or something. So go ahead, get that big chocolatey blizzard at the Ludlow Dairy Queen... You can always stop here; or better yet, they have a really good hospital in Kingman.

This is a very pet friendly place, just ensure pets are leashed for safety since this area is in the open and near roads. I felt safe from wildlife while walking around the rest area for a quick stretch due to the clean grounds visibility . This stop is maintained daily and has minimal landscaping around. During the day there was plenty of presence of visitors and employees for a weekday. There are multiple stalls (4) in the women restrooms but at my time of arrival 2 were not working, maintenance was repairing those. This rest stop is also a common stop for truck drivers but parking is big enough to keep the area safe and accessible to big rigs and regular vehicles. Plenty of picnic tables to use while you enjoy a quick snack in the desert area and a nice breath of fresh air .
