Location is North of Baker California and The Nevada State Line. On a Thursday afternoon, there was a line to use the men's room. Why? Because over 50% of stall for men were out of order. I just barely left Vegas, and I didn't project a needed break until maybe Barstow, but my bladder forced an "uh-oh" moment. (Totally my fault, I should have gone before leaving.) The sign says it's 15 miles out and since there wasn't any traffic, I got here in no time. Of course, with my luck, the only available stall had a broken lock, but no biggie. Another one was available seconds later. The whole place is a bit dated but bears no relevance because it is CLEAN. Nothing is more important more especially during these pandemic times. Sanitation will always come out on top. I mean... who really cares what a public bathroom looks like: if it's clean and provides privacy, all is good. If you absolutely have to relieve yourself then by all means stop here but know in advance it is absolutely filthy and poorly kept. It is rife with graffiti, floors are grossly unkept and soaked with urine and the odor is extremely strong. Only three bathroom stalls for a well travelled highway (one was out of order). Thankfully we were traveling on a Sunday afternoon opposite the crowd coming from Vegas. I can't imagine the wait for a stall on a busy weekend. We stopped here Friday afternoon, and I have NEVER seen a filthier rest stop. Only 2 out of 7 of the stalls were available for use, and the open ones were piled high with garbage on the floor. The floor was filthy, and I can't even imagine the last time it must have been cleaned. I was actually kind of shocked. We've stopped here many times and it was always decent. For whatever reason... Wow I never thought I would review a rest stop but here I go. This is a common stop on the way to Vegas. Located right off the freeway with easy access and is fairly new. There is plenty of parking and every tome I've been there, which is maybe 5 or 6, it has beer clean. The place is designed well with easy access in and out. Nasty rest area. Filthy. Water leaks. Half of the stalls were out of order. Some of the working ones had no toilet paper. Sinks didn't work right. Gave up on waiting for the 2-3 stalls in the women's bathroom and went to the family bathroom. No paper towels and the hand dryer doesn't work. I shudder to think about what was on the floor... Absolutely filthy. 4 stalls out of order in the ladies restroom. Two working stalls doors did not lock. No available seat covers and soap dispensers all empty. All I can say, "I'm sure glad this rest stop is here," because after being on the road for about an hour and half, from Vegas to San Diego, I really had to pee. Well, that's why I stopped and their facilities were pretty nice for being out in the middle of the desert. Luckily it was not hot but cool and windy, so after relieving myself, I took the time to check the place out. They large both men's and women's restrooms, they have table for picnics, the offer maps and an information center for the local wildlife and geography, they have trash cans, and they have a drink machine. The main building was in good shape, the restroom was moderately clean, and there happen to be a crew working on the desert landscaping while I was there. Definitely a nice facility for being out in the middle of no where. So, if your body is telling you, you are in need of some relief or break, consider this place before staying on the road any longer. Long drives make pee! read more

Clean restrooms with automatic toilets and sinks! At a rest stop! The tile in the restroom even include pictures and desert and water usage education. Did I mention clean? At 5:30 on a Sunday, there were multiple employees cleaning the restrooms and emptying trash. Now that's a nice rest stop and much better than 99% of the gas station bathrooms I have seen. Between Primm and Baker, it's the perfect place to stop for a quick off and back on the 15 freeway bathroom break without the hassle of street lights. read more

The Valley Wells Rest Area truly sets the modern standard in what motorists seeking a safe respite are looking for when they pull off the highway. Rest areas have come a long way since the old days of shady characters, heavily vandalized restrooms without locks or toilet paper and trash strewn everywhere. The Valley Wells rest area is designed to be almost park-like with its picnic tables, viewing platform (replete with binoculars), vending machines, and a full time cleaning staff that is on site most of the time. It is a rest area that you look forward to stopping at on your way to or out of Vegas, and either side of the freeway offers a comparable experience. The rest area isn't just for bathroom facilities, though it does offer expansive restrooms with historical facts and figures on the walls for random reading. It offers history laden markers with large photos, a large picnic area, several benches and trash cans, parking lot to accommodate passenger vehicles and semi trucks, and even vending machines that offer many choices in beverages. Granted, it is still a rest area and no matter how hard they try there will always be some jerks that insist on vandalizing the mirrors and stalls with their uneducated scratches and misspelled tags. Idiots. But the on-site staff is quick to keep the stalls pretty clean and the smell in the restroom isn't the typical stale urine smell that we road trippers are well accustomed to. Most of the time, the smell of industrial cleaners fill the air, which in a public rest area, is really all we can hope for. The viewing platform is a nice touch that offers a chance to snap some pics of the desert landscaping and the coin-op binoculars add a nice little extra that the kids enjoy. Overall, this is simply a top notch rest area. Arguably, the best in the business and one I can strongly recommend to all. read more

Leaving Vegas I'm happy to see this has been put in place. For years driving through the Mojave its just gross seeing sketchy guys with their wankers out pissing trying to do the desert some justice. I'm sure desert critters are happy not to be exposed to that gross sight too. There's information boards to ponder over and learn a little bit about the history of the area like the terrain, animals, Native Americans, interest points and more. Good place to take a break and stretch out. There's vending machines and telescopes to gaze out into the desert. Bathrooms were clean and workers were all over. Stop over coz you've got a long way to go before another rest stop. read more

Hey, what do you want? It's a rest area just a half a mile past BFE. Actually, I wanna say its roughly 55 miles or so south of Primm, Nevada. Usually I try to stay the hell out of rest areas because, let's face it, your likely to be here because nature calls. Usually rest area bathrooms are pretty foul and disgusting, but this one wasn't all that bad, especially considering the volume of people that must pass through here on a daily basis. Hell, some of the restrooms I saw on this trip made this place look like the Bellagio (no joke). They also have an observation area with binoculars set up in the back of the area to check out the mountains and such. It's alright. It serves its purpose. Its A-OK! 3 stars. read more

This place during our afternoon visit seemed reasonably well kept and traffic moved along nicely. Who knows what happens at night? It could turn in to either a bathhouse or a speakeasy. This place was sprawling with people making a pit stop. Super crowded. The restroom was just like any other highway rest stop you would find. It's not super dirty, but also not super clean either. It is a nice place to just stretch your legs though. Also, this is the first rest stop that I've been to where there was a hot dog cart right outside. read more
