    Uncle Buck's Painting and Restoration

I hired William Bullock of Uncle Buck's Painting & Restorations to do a paint job for me as a…read moresubcontractor. He asked me for a 50% down payment, which I paid him via Zelle. Unfortunately, this was a bad decision as he basically ran off with my money, and did not do the job. What happened was that my customer had a deadline for the job to be done, and William didn't order the paint in time, so the customer canceled the job. He said he was waiting for my down payment before ordering the paint, so I don't fully blame him for the paint not arriving in time. The main reason I'm dissatisfied is that he did not refund my down payment after the job was canceled. We're talking about over $2,000 here! He basically returned the paint he ordered and kept the money. I tried asking him nicely on multiple occasions to give me the down payment back, and he refused at first. After asking him multiple times, he agreed to give me the money back in installments. This was not ideal for me, but I agreed to accept the payment in installments because he said money was tight for him. The only problem is that it has been months now, and he has only given me one installment of $400 back. I keep asking him to make another payment per our agreed upon schedule, but at this point he is so late on his payments that I have basically given up hope of ever getting my money back. I also tried contacting Zelle to get me my money back, but they said that they can't help me as Zelle is more or less like cash. At the end of the day, what he did was basically theft and totally unacceptable. I highly recommend thinking twice before giving him a down payment. If you do decide to, at least don't do it via Zelle.

Brawner Renovations - Old builder deck

I met with seven contractors to replace our old builder deck and Wesley Brawner with Brawner…read moreRenovations was head and shoulders above the competition. He answered all of our questions and explained everything very thoroughly. We also needed to have our siding replaced and Wesley said he was happy to work with any siding contractor we chose. He offered to demo the deck and install new flashing and ledger boards before the siding was replaced, then come back and install the new deck after the siding was done. Wesley said they would get a permit and inspection. While the other deck contractors either took several days to send a quote or ghosted us, Wesley sent a very detailed and competitive quote with better/best options hours after meeting with us, and we hired him. We met Kym at the showroom in Kennesaw to look at all of the decking and railing options and were very impressed with everything. We decided to go with the Trex Transcend Lineage Jasper and Trex Signature Black aluminum railing. Kenneth came out to take measurements and followed up with awesome renderings showing the deck from five different angles. Eddie, Thomas, and Carlos demoed the old deck and installed new flashing and ledger boards in one day. After the siding contractor replaced the siding, Eddie returned with Israel and Antonio to build the new deck. They finished the deck in seven days and it looks amazing, a night and day difference from the old deck. Our favorite details include the post brackets that secure the posts to the concrete while keeping them off the ground and away from water, the switchback stairs, each decking board is one continuous piece (no butt joints), color matched screws, and the cocktail rail. The inspector said "they did a nice job for you." We were very impressed with the entire Brawner team, love our new deck, and give them our highest recommendation.

Wilmore and his crew were great to work with start to finish. They really know what they're doing, they showed up on time each day that they came out, and the deck came out better than I even hoped. Wilmore is a really nice guy, too!

He sent me references two days ago and said he would send a contract to me so that the job could be started next week. I spent days looking for the granite remnant needed for the job. When I texted him today (2 days after he said he would send the contract and didn't) he said he could no longer do the work because I didn't get back to him (?) and send him the money he needed for the cabinet he was picking up. He never told me an amount to send, how to send it or that he was even waiting on me!! I had narrowed the job down to this person because he seemed professional when he came to see what needed to be done. But today he texts me he has "taken another job" and can no longer help me. I would have really appreciated a phone call and for him to be honest and tell me that he thought the job was too small, which is obviously what the problem was. It is so frustrating to trust someone and get excited about work that's going to be done just to have them blame you then quit. He wanted half of the money upfront and I'm so glad I didn't give him a penny. Super disappointing and now I'm back to square one trying to find someone to do the job.
