Then I get a call 2 days later saying another employee sold my couch "that was labeled with my name" and I would have to get the sets in different colors.... MAKE IT MAKE SENSE !!. I cancel the entire living room set cause I'm not dealing with that. Bedroom set comes and gets delivered, but wait... then to find out one of the items is missing and won't be delivered for another month. If I could give a ZERO star, I would. We bought our set of reclining couches in September of 2022. By February of 2023 one of the recliners stopped reclining. Called the store with their promise of fixing any issues, they sent out a contractor, said a part needed to be ordered to fix the problem. It is now the END OF MAY and the part has still not come in and we've been stuck with a broken chair. Not one call from the store to update us on the situation. We've called multiple times and all we get is, the part is still being delivered. HOW DOES IT TAKE OVER THREE MONTHS TO GET ONE PART?!? Can be summed up in 3 words, BAIT and SWITCH! I'm very cautious when furniture shopping as there are many untrustworthy furniture companies out there as I've learned over the years. I previously purchases a large amount of furniture (living room sets, bedrooms sets and dining room sets) a few years back at this location. We decided to replace a couch I did some research for sales in the area and found this location was having the 3-day Black Friday sale with 20% off. The advertisements clearly list in large letters that this 20% sale discount is good for "Everything in the store". We went to this Value City Furniture store seeing that it was clearly advertised that everything in the store was 20% off and we ensured to visit and make a purchase during the Black Friday sales. After lots of looking through the store and looking at mostly very overpriced furniture (way marked up from my previous experience in this store to the point we almost left), we found a sectional we really liked and the living room table to go with it. I went out of my way to talk my wife into this set (because the price was decent and would go down about $400 after the 20%) I did too good of a job and made my wife completely fall in love with this set (which is what I thought was best at that minute). We decided to make the purchase, we give all of the information and I'm ready to pay when I look at the price and tell him he forgot to add the 20% discount. He said the 20% discount did not apply to that one section where we picked our couch and table from (the only section that didn't have obviously marked up prices). I questioned him on this as the advertised sales on the website and even signs in the store clearly said "everything in the store" was 20% off. I looked around this specific section and there was NOTHING marked to show that furniture in this section of the store was exclude from the "everything in the store" 20% off sale. I even double-checked the signs. I put the sale on hold and was getting ready to leave as the thing I hate most in stores is obvious and illegal BAIT AND SWITCH practices. However, as we were getting ready to leave, I saw my wife was extremely sad as she had now fell in love with this couch, already took pictures of it and had her mind setup that she wanted it. This was completely unfair as we decided on this couch and wife fell in love with it under BAIT and SWITCH false advertising practices believing it would be about $400 less after the advertised 20% discount. I've been married for 24-years and learned to give my wife what she really wants as she completely fell in love with this couch even though it was under false advertisement. We went ahead and made the purchase, only because I felt like I had no other choice to keep my wife happy after we were baited into this store and fell in love with a sofa under BAIT and SWITCH false advertisement. This store did make the sale despite this illegal business practice; however, they lost a very good customer. I asked them to lean it another direction and pull it into my kitchen slightly over a banister. Ordered a bed set in March. Understand everything was back ordered due to pandemic but finally had a date and was informed it was damaged and delivery had to be postponed. Received a call day before 2nd delivery date and no one could hear me. Tried to call back 1 minute later and no answer- that was at 10:00 am it's now 3:00 pm. I have called 10 times and no one will answer. Called corporate no answer. Went online did chat they just tell me to call store or corporate. At this point, I don't know if I even want the bed set. I have been a customer here on and off for the last 6 years. Needless to say, this is probably the last time. My order that was placed on 10/9/17 was WRONG. And my salesperson is responsible. We will leave his name out of it for right now. Not only was the color of the loveseat I ordered incorrect, and I caught it, but the sales person left off a piece. So now, for their screw up I get to pay for delivery AGAIN. Oh sure, they are giving me a discount because the sales person knows they messed up, but I am still having to wait and PAY again. The purchase went well and the price was fine. The item does appear to be the item we bought (a king size adjustable bedframe.) The delivery, however, was strange. A delivery window was arranged. When the workers called before showing up I asked them to repeat how many minutes they'd take to arrive they hissed at me: "ten". OK, whatever. That could be me misinterpreting tone, but it's not ultimately costing me anything. Then they show up and I'm told I have to pull the king sized mattress off my bed. Instead of helping me (and saving them time) they just stand around glaring at me. So now they've just cost themselves an extra couple minutes. I start pushing the mattress in one direction and am told when it's halfway off, "No, you need to put it there," pointing in another direction. They assemble the piece and then just leave. I asked if they're going to take the old mattress frame away - am told no, we never do that. They call someone that appears to be their manager (Store #90 it said on his cell phone). The guy tells me they never take away old furniture. OK - it would've been nice had this been, well, explained to me. Of course this is before the store opens so for all I know I was talking to one of their buddies at the warehouse. I'm then complained to because apparently I didn't clear out enough space around the existing mattress frame. I start tearing down the mattress frame since apparently we have to take it to the dump (is this the new normal for furniture and appliance delivery?) and discover that they've left random ties and pieces just lying around.Is it the new normal for delivery folks to not clean up after themselves (or are they on such tight schedules they can't do it?) They do deign to take away the boxes the new mattress frame came in, and in a final gesture of "goodwill", one of the delivery people bowled over my wife as she was coming up the stairs. I will be calling and asking for a refund of the delivery fee since at no time was any of this explained to me and the delivery people were rude, and either poor policies, unrealistic quotas, or lazy delivery people forced me to spend an extra hour breaking down the old bedframe and my wife taking it to the dump (two pieces wouldn't fit in the back of the minivan so a second trip will have to happen, unfortunately.) I suppose if you have the ability to telework it'd be okay - fortunately I do. Likewise, if you're able to budget an extra two hours for cleanup and taking old stuff to the dump, it might be okay. Well.. within a month all the corners of the cushions began to tear. Not just one..ALL! I walked into the store and spoke with the GM. Showed pictures and explained that I was clear when I purchased this item it was final sale. HOWEVER, no couch should have this issue unless there was some sort of defect. I wasn't asking for a refund, just replacements of the cushions which is called excellent customer service. His response was " do you have a dog or kids jumping on the couch?" I don't have a dog and my kids are away at college I said. ( I felt the energy of him not believing me, that's how bad the pictures were.) My review is to talk about my experience at this VC location and a specific sales associate. Why I would never come back and would never recommend to anyone. I recently purchased a home. We moved into an empty home that needed FULL FURNISHING. Nothing to sit on, nothing to eat on...NOTHING. I kept seeing VCF pop up on my social media and decided to check it out. We came in and helped ourselves and toured the store. Eventually passed Tim M. slouching in a chair. Still in his chair, looking comfy and unmotivated, he asked us if we needed assistance. I figured sales must not be doing well for Tim. We told him we were just looking. I found a dining set that I loved, and the price was great. I immediately looked for Tim for more information and assistance. I told Tim that I will purchase the set. Especially, because, he told us we lucked out. It was an order someone did not pick up and wouldn't be in stock again until October. I told Tim before I pay for the set I'd like to check out the living room sofas. There were two collections I was interested and I'll look for him once I make my final decision. While looking at the sofa sets, my 3 years old toddler started to get antsy. So, I needed to leave and come back another day. I looked for Tim to ring me up for the dining set. He was helping someone, so I waited. While I was waiting more customers came and needed assistance. Tim finished the customer he was helping, saw me, ignored me, and helped a white person. Ok...and after that customer...he then greeted a white couple...."How can I help you?" Not slouched comfy in a sofa, not looking unmotivated like he did with me. "How can I help you" meant they were new customers who just walked in and came after me. And there was me, who came before this rush and wanted to be rung up. "How can I help you" became an extra effort of giving them a tour of the place. I've already made the drive up here. I've already found what I want. I've already waited this long. Let's hang tight. I waited. By now my crying son was outside with his father waiting for me. 15-30 mins later Tim came back to me. Apologized and said he would have to leave me again to finish helping that couple who are now waiting for him in the back. By now I was angry. I asked Tim if he was going to ring me up, because I am ready. Forgot his cc device. Had me walk with him to the back. Saw the white couple seated and looking back at me like white privileges. Tim rung me up with a sarcastic voice "Thank you! Sorry for the wait!". Tall, thin, short hair female associate says to Tim "You're always in a good mood". (Really? Rude delivery guy; didn't move the furniture the way we asked them to do.. we intially asked one side, they opened the box and then we asked to put the item in other side of the wall... They said NO.. they are not going to move the item anymore Next item, they called coming in one hour... Waiting for two hours... I called back to the store what's going on... They will not communicate the delivery persons asking the time and we will keep waiting... Such a disgusting attitude. I talked to the manager about the incorrect item, manager said delivery people will ask you to check a form if everything is delivered correct, choose incorrect at that option. Delivery guys denied such option in the form and asked us to signed delivered. Now we are waiting to get the correct item to arrive May; when I complained Manage Mike told everything will be fixed and the sales lady who initially sold the furniture to us call us on correct item delivery date. After two days I talked to the manager, nothing was done by the stupid sales lady; but manager was really helpful and he fixed it. We were looking to make a purchase of a large sectional for our family room, the main gathering place in our home. We had previously purchased a leather sectional at another furniture store in Frederick. The leather on that sectional did not hold up, so we thought we were familiar with what to look for in a leather piece. We found the perfect size piece at Value City Furniture. The salesperson that worked with us assured us that anywhere that was visible or that would be in contact with a person sitting on the piece was real leather. We made the purchase and were quite pleased for the first few years. Almost to the week that our warranty expired (as luck would have it), our furniture began to "peal". Think your skin after a bad sunburn. The thin layer of leather began to peal and flake off on all spots that were sat on often. Our once beautiful piece is now truly an embarrassing eyesore. All the bragging on VCF I did ("stop questioning the great prices and assuming it's low quality- It's great") was wrong. Worst experiences EVER! The ONLY good thing about VCF was our salesman Gary. He was helpful and kind. The delivery out of the Hagerstown Office was a complete disaster. The mattress was delivered fully SOAKED in water inside the plastic. Must have been stored on the floor in a flooded warehouse. Delivery guys didn't open the plastic and when I called the warehouse back Phillip was rude and blatantly blamed me for soaking the mattress that had just been delivered. This place has beyond horrible customer service. No one cared not even the corporate office and said it would be a week before they could even remove the wet mattress. I guarantee you this mattress is moldy and disgusting, it's been at my house 4 days already and is still soaked. Disgusting. I explained to them that I had gotten rid of my other bed and had no where to sleep and I'm still waiting for my new mattress. I don't even want to know the condition of their warehouse. Hello to everyone looking for furniture at Value City in Frederick, Maryland.......It's the best location in the County for pricing that is affordable and the customer service is excellent!! Tony at this location was very courteous, kind, knowledgeable and informed me that Value City is THEIR OWN MANUFACTURER!!! That is a BIG plus for savings by eliminating the middle person. The furniture is beautiful, a large variety and arranged perfectly on the sales floor for the ease of orientating the room differences. Tony knew my mother had a knee replacement and made some suggestions on which type of recliner would be more comfortable. An electric automatic reclining chair with a push of a button. This was a great idea as she is older and had trouble pushing the others with a low lever. Tony also suggested the warranty for the furniture if anything goes wrong with it no matter how old it would be replaced with brand new one!!! Imagine that! Javier at the customer service phone line was excellent at explaining to me the 90 day policy and if we didn't want the furniture ALL MONEY would be returned no questions asked. We are very pleased to know the delivery charge is affordable and they will set up the chair for us. I am very happy with the purchase and glad I took mom to see Value City and Tony was an excellent sales person. I didn't feel rushed or pressured into buying an item, that night in February and specifically called to make sure Tony was working the night we placed our order. This furniture store is located in the Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick. It is exactly what you would expect, mostly cheap decent furniture with a few expensive high end items. I managed to get a new bedroom suite for $1200 (bed, dresser, mirror, night stand, chest, entertainment center). Not bad for real wood furniture (not veneer). I can't speak for the quality of the other items but I am happy with my purchase. The delivery was an extra $90 and occurred the same day they said it would. I was given a 1-3pm window but they got there at 4pm. I am in the logistics industry so I know how that works, no big deal. read more

My husband and I went here looking for a reclining couch and loveseat. We were approached within a couple minutes after entering the store and the saleswoman took us to the section we needed. We needed specific measurements to fit the furniture in our place so I was checking the tags. Most of them were inaccurate, but our saleswoman had a tape measure and doubled checked everything for us which was good. She talked up these warrantees for the furniture the whole time we were there. We asked for the prices of the warrantees TWO different times and she dodged the question outright which was annoying. She didn't really give us time to discuss things privately even after giving her several hints. My husband hadn't eaten and we wanted to just talk, so we decided that we would get something to eat before buying. The lady would not let us go. She kept on saying stuff like,"I can get you checked out of here in 3 minutes!" She even tried to start up a forced friendly conversation to keep us there. We told her we would come back and finally were able to leave the store after an extra 10 minutes of pretty much begging us to stay. When we came back, we had decided on what we wanted were going to purchase. Her "3 minute checkout" took more like 30+ minutes. When she rang us up, she included an extra $300 of warrantee charges and asked for my husband's credit card without even discussing the costs. I stopped her and asked more questions and she seemed flustered. We decided that since it's just the two of us and a declawed cat that we wouldn't get the warrantees. She looked at me like I had just killed her firstborn child and instantly got pushy. "Well, what if...!" We purchased without the warrantee and barely got a goodbye as we left the store. (I'm guessing the warrantee is where she makes her commission?) I'm giving it three stars because we really like the price we got on the furniture and the saleswoman was very helpful at the beginning. Purchased several items. Lured in by the discount bedroom set (bedding extra). Quality of bedroom stuff (queen frame, dresser etc) is ok for me. (single 49 yr old., small apt) Discounted dining set was a problem.. $199 (i think) for 4 chairs and a mission table. After 5 trips to my apt. I finally got a table top that was not scratched or damaged. That said. VCF did a great job of coming back until I was satisfied. 5 Trips! Yes thats a bit much but the customer service did a great job of getting me satisfied. It took a while, but I will only accept Saturday deliveries. Overall, customer service was fine, very accommodating to my schedule. It was not good that it took 5 attempts to deliver the product., but they delivered. Ordering again from them? " I am requesting that someone call me regarding the abhorrent service I have received from Value City both at the Frederick, MD store where I made my purchase and especially at the Falls Church store where I was supposed to receive delivery from. There was supposed to be a delivery of $1500 worth of furniture delivered to my apartment on Thursday September 16th, where I stayed home from work for 4 hours (from a hospital). The delivery men made no attempt to call me or even knock on my door or leave a note and when I called to complain the warehouse manager told me there was nothing I could do. I have NO furniture in my apartment and no one will help me or assist me with getting the furniture here in a timely fashion. I am furious and demand someone rectify this situation IMMEDIATELY. This is an update: The third ottoman delivered was fine. The drivers let me inspect the piece before entering the home and they did not engage in any sort of argument about the one they were taking away, other than to ask what was wrong with it, since the top part was undamaged. The store associates were helpful, but when it was coming close to the time to have my merchandise delivered is when the problems began. My delivery date was pushed off another whole month. So, I had to wait. The day before the delivery date, I received a call from an associate letting me know that my delivery time would be between 9am and 12noon the next day. The next morning I get up around 7:45amish and at 8:16am I get a call. I missed the call, but since it was from an unknown number I decided to wait for the a voicemail thinking if it was important the caller would leave a voicemail message. About 8:30am I heard a faint pounding. So I look out the window and the delivery truck was outside to deliver my merchandise. So, then I realized that the caller was the delivery people from VCF. So, I called the number back and a male answered the phone. I asked him if he had called me. He said, "yes, he has been calling". Which was a lie, because I only received one call and no message. Then I told him I was on the way to open my door to let them in to deliver my merchandise. Once the delivers were in the house. I told them my deliver was between 9am and 12noon. The deliver I talked to on the phone was pretty much rude for the most part of the delivery and wasn't much help when I asked questions. If I ever get anything from VCF again it probably won't be the one in Hagerstown Maryland and I definitely don't want the same delivers. read more

Seriously, go here for stylish, affordable furniture. I wanted something cute but dont have thousands to spend. My couch was $588 out the door, including tax, delivery, and waranty. I went to other places and got smarmy salespeople and cheap looking merchandise. So happy i made the drive to Value City instead! Tony was the salesman who helped me, and he was great. I told him i was looking for a sofa, he pointed out where in the store i should look, and he gave me time and space to look on my own. He was available for questions, answered them helpfully, and didnt try to push me toward higher end things or sell me any other pieces i didnt need. When i picked out my sofa he rang me up quickly and put a special note in my delivery order for me. I accidently set up the delivery for the wrong day, so i called them back and they changed it, no problem. They were supposed to call me a few days before the delivery to tell me the window. This was the one thing they didnt do. Again, called them and was helped quickly and courteously. The window was 11-2pm, and they were supposed to call me when they were close so i could meet them in the driveway (i live in an inlaw unit and the entrance isnt obvious). I got a call at 1130, the two guys (Felix and another guy whose name i didnt get) were speedy and respectful. I showed them where to go and i think they were in and out in 10 minutes! It was raining, but my couch was pristine when it got to my living room. My living room was also neat when they left--no trash, mud, packing materials, they even fluffed the pillows :) Couldnt have asked for a better experience in every way, start to finish. Salesman was VERY aggressive, only complaint. Bought a dining room set and a living room set, spent a little more to get better quality and very happy with it. Had an issue getting a bed for my daughter delivered and I spoke to Dina, who credited me back $50.00 and got the bed to us in a few days. Very happy with everything!! read more

We are a military family and the move to Frederick was our 6th move. Our furniture prior had been with us throughout all the moves. This last one was the end of the line for them which is why we purchased new ones from value city. Specifically 3 years ago, I purchased a bed and dining set and below is my review. If I could give zero stars I would. I recommend not purchasing from this place. Although reasonably priced, the quality is a rip off. I understand that people may have good "experiences" however, the products are awful due to very low quality. They look nice in the store but do not hold up in home. I purchased a bedroom set and a dining set. Neither are made with real wood. It is some sort of cheap wood replica. My dining set paint chips any time chairs are pulled out, pushed in or anything remotely touches it. Of note, this is a formal dining set not used in daily meals and only been used about 10 times. The smartest purchase I've made through value city is the warranty for the dining set which I've used twice. This opinion on quality isn't just independent to me. In a conversation with a value city rep, I voiced my opinion that the furniture was subpar in quality. His response was alarming but true. He said "you're just figuring that out?"I am not posting this to vent but in hopes that this prevents you from "figuring that out". However, in addition to a dining and bedroom set, I also purchased an overpriced rug which does exactly what rugs are supposed to so atleast in addition to the warranty, I have had a positive experience with that. In closing, as I depart from the Frederick area, I leave you with your own choice. Although i recommend against purchasing from value city, I do recommend that if you have to or decide to, the best purchase you can make is a full warranty for as long as you can have it, in order to protect yourself from their products poor quality. read more

So after I sat down and finally did all the math for this ridiculous matter (since they refused to do it themselves), I realized that they are only applying $50 of our monthly payment to the actual principal balance and charging us $100 a month of "rental fees". Of course, no where on the paperwork does it expressly state how much you are paying monthly to "rent" the furniture, I had to break everything down myself to figure out exactly why 66% of my payment wasn't being applied to the merchandise. Do NOT rent through this company. They are shady and rude. Edit: So after finally figuring out how everything was being billed, I was ready to pay this off and be done with it. The district manager, Shirley, told the AG rep that as long as I paid off the balance by 12/31/18 I could avoid the late fees. Which is fine, that was my plan anyway. I planned on splitting the payment between two weeks, and I called the DM and told her such. She said that wasn't "allowed" and I am only able to make one full payment. She said they don't accept partial payments. What even is this company??? It's so antiquated, and I'm sure they do this to make it harder for customers to pay it off so they can force them to stay stuck in this ridiculous agreement and pay a $100/month "rental" fee. I told her I wanted to return the merchandise instead. By this point, while I have the means to pay this off in one payment, I rather go pay $1000 upfront for another mattress then give this company another dime. Sale advertised 10% off all store. Store reports to be honoring veterans this weekend with a 20% discount however they raised the item back to full price before they would honor the military discount. Clearly not truly honoring the military. Take your hard errand money elsewhere. read more

VCF- Run for your life - Save your time, money and stress level. The merchandise may seem inexpensive good quality furniture BUT it is not! I had purchased three different items and all were defective in some way. The furniture is usually missing parts, scratched, chipped etc. etc. I could go on and on. The sales people are good but the Manager Chris and the Store Manager Jeff Phillips are rude, condesending and obnoxious! They give this store a BAD NAME and customer service. CAVEAT EMPTOR! We purchased a child's dresser and nightstand that fell apart before we could get it home from the store and were denied a refund or exchange. The dresser was marked as clearance and we purchased it on sale. We inspected it in the store to the extent reasonable (we couldn't move it around, turn upside down, or remove all of the drawers) and it seemed to be acceptable with minor imperfections, which we attributed to discount to. After we got it home I went to remove the drawers to unload it and carry it into the house. They fell apart in my hands and the rest of the dresser was hanging together by a thread before ever being removed from the vehicle. It appears as though the dresser was falling apart but was setup in the store to conceal all of the defects (backed and cornered against other furniture to hide problems and also in low light). I contacted the store's manager and was informed that they would not honor the store's return policy because it was a clearance item. We were NOT informed of this before or during the purchase, only afterwards when contacted about the defective item. I can't think of a bigger scam and find it hard to believe that a business is able function so dishonestly in this day in age. I highly recommend staying away at all costs, I couldn't even imagine being left hanging out to dry if we had purchased an entire bedroom or living room set that fell apart. read more
