I totally love this exhibit, but then Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings, so I can't say I am an impartial judge. First off - getting tickets. Unlike other places where you can buy online and get a printed ticket, for this you have to download their app, purchase through it and show your phone to check in. I am not exactly thrilled at being forced to download another app but I guess that's where the world is heading. Parking - there are numerous garages and street parkings nearby, and even valet, some options less expensive than others. We timed to arrive a little early so we could circle around a bit to find parking on the street. The exhibit starts like a typical museum exhibit, some videos, some reproduced paintings along with caption, which gives you some basic background of Van Gogh's life and talent. The highlight is the main immersion experience. There are rugs and beanbags on the floor, as well as chairs and benches, for you to sit down and enjoy the looping show. The vibrant colors and emotive music really let you immerse yourself in his paintings. They also add some animation by moving parts of the painting (like a boat or the birds). There is minimal narration, except for a few lines of Van Gogh's words. Some may consider the pace a bit slow but I think it's perfect for letting you really sink into that feeling, whether it be the beautiful nature or the psychotic mind. I was also glad to pay the extra $5 for the virtual reality experience, which gives me a better understanding of his work, as you stroll along the village and see where he sets up his canvas, so to speak. The show suggests that the whole experience takes an hour, but I ended up staying for almost 3 (watched both the VR and immersive twice), and probably won't mind spending even more. read more

Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibit showcases the art of Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890), a Dutch post impressionist painter. During his life he suffered from bouts of mental illness resulting in him famously cutting off a part of his own left ear. He was plagued by depression and was considered a madman and a failure. It is believed that he only sold one painting in his lifetime. His life tragically ended when he committed suicide at the age of 37 by shooting himself in the chest. It was until early 20th century that he began to be looked on favorably as other artists incorporated elements of his work. If you have ever watched Emily in Paris on Netflix you might remember the Van Gogh exhibit scene. Emily goes to the Atelier des Lumières with Gabriel and Camille where they watch Van Gogh's paintings projected on the wall and floor. Later on the exhibit gives her the idea for a winning luxury bed campaign. My friend and I previously took a road trip for her birthday to St. Petersburg for the similar Van Gogh Alive! exhibit at the Dali Museum. For my birthday, my friend purchased the tickets to this exhibit Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at the Olympia Theater in Miami. There are two competing Van Gogh projection exhibits by two separate companies in Miami at the same time which can be a little confusing. There is Beyond Van Gogh at Ice Palace Studios and this one which we attended, Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at the historic 1926 Olympia Theater in downtown Miami which is presented by Fever and European entertainment producers Exhibition Hub. Both exhibits feature a large room where the artists works are projected on the walls. The Ice Palace Studios experience from the pictures I have seen, looks like it has better projection on the floor giving you more of a feeling of actually being in the painting while The Immersive Experience has a VR component. Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience opened on May 8th. You can either valet park for $18, cash only or as we did, walk two blocks to the filthy, nasty city garage for $15. This area is looking really run down and it is swarming with homeless people. As we walked to the exhibit I thought we were going to be run down by a guy on a bike screaming nonsense at our backs and when we stepped out the door after the show we were instantly hit up for money. I am not squeamish about exploring all of Miami, even the so called bad areas but this was almost even too much for me. It is a shame that you can't feel safe walking around downtown Miami. The theater is a historic gem and it is only two blocks away from Bayside, a major tourist destination and less than a mile from Brickell, a huge financial center. Once you are in the theater you can begin to forget the unpleasantness that is taking place outside the doors. The Immersive production is unique in that it has a 3D replica of Van Gogh's room as seen in his painting "The Bedroom." Another standout feature of this exhibit is that it takes place on the Olympia Theater stage so you can see the beautiful proscenium arch during the show. There are benches, rugs, and beanbag chairs in the room so you can sit or lay on the floor which is cool since some of the projection takes place on the floor. The show runs on a loop and you can sit and watch it as many times as you like. I never got tired of Starry Night and Almond Blossom. My favorite part of the experience takes place upstairs where you can experience Van Gogh in virtual reality. It is part of the VIP ticket package or you can add it on for $5 more to a regular ticket, and you totally should. As you sit in a chair you go on a marvelous journey that shows you what inspired Van Gogh's paintings. You start out in the artists bedroom, travel to a farm, through the woods, and into the charming village that inspired Starry Night before ending at the Rhone River. As you exit the theater you pass through the gift shop where we collected a poster that was part of our package and we bought some shirts. I think you could go to all of the different Van Gogh shows and take something different away from each of them. Of the two shows I have seen so far, I got different things out of each of them. I loved this exhibit! Even though all the 'paintings' were projections on the wall, it was so cool too actually 'see' so many of Van Gogh's paintings all in one spot, to be able to compare, contrast, observe, admire, think. In fact, it was cool to be able to get as close as you wanted to the 'paintings' since there was no way to damage them. I think this format has great potential for sharing works of art in a new way. In one small 'room,' a large vase protruding from the wall, created the backdrop for a conglomeration of Van Gogh's paintings of flowers in flower pots. To see all of his paintings meld into each other was pretty incredible- to see the similarities and differences. I could have watched this for soooo long! I enjoyed seeing the true-to-painting famous room that Van Gogh painted repeatedly- without any statues. Very cool! The main event was 360 degree projections in a giant 'room,' with floor to ceiling screens at least 2 stories high. This was magical, incredible, and so creative. The addition of movement and music and story just took me on a journey that was emotional, beautiful, and all-consuming. The 3D virtual event was interesting - and definitely took things to an entirely different dimension as well. I left wanting more! I was already a Van Gogh fan before walking in the door, but I would 100% attend another exhibit in similar format for a different painter, even if I knew nothing about their life. Super interactive! This was such a great experience and I feel like I learned so much about van Gogh himself and his art. If you're looking to see his actual paintings, this isn't the exhibit for you and you'll have to go to museums in Amsterdam, Paris etc. because these are all replicas of his work and projected images but not the originals. I really enjoyed watching the various videos about his pieces and learning about his life. At the end there was a really cute activity where you can draw your own art with crayons and I really enjoyed it. Haven't used crayons in about 15 years so that was fun. The entire exhibit takes about an hour to get through but you can easily spend more time if you want to read everything. Tickets- they make you download an app and buy the tickets through it. There is a student discount!! As well as seniors and military. Parking- downtown Miami is a ghost town but I went during lunch time so it was actually pretty busy. Parking is like $15 for valet but I was able to find Pay By Phone parking near bay front park and walk 2 blocks to the exhibit. read more

Our school took our students to the Van Gogh museum for a field trip, and this is one of the best museums I've been to in south Florida. When you walk in, you are completely immersed into Van Gogh's work. The museum is structured is 3 exhibits (gallery walkthrough, creative studio, and theater projection of his art). The staff of the museum were so helpful and accommodating to our group. They gave us a plethora is information on Van Gogh and the museum itself, and they helped guide our group efficiently so that we can enjoy each exhibit thoroughly. All of our students were in awe at this experience, and they did not want to leave. This exhibit was here during the summer. I missed it and forgot about it. However, I found the event again. During Art Week Miami, they had tickets with a discount price. (It was almost half of the original price. ) So, after work, I asked my coworkers to go with me. The location is downtown, and the parking was a little bit hectic. There were several garages and street parking available. My friend found the valet parking at $18.00, and she took that one. I was driving around to see which place was better. Right behind this Olympia Theater, there was "City Parking." It was Pay by phone. But I didn't know $10 per hour to park. In the end, we ended up spending over $30 for a few hours of parking. So, if you are planning to go to this exhibit and hang around downtown, the best way is to use the valet service. So, you don't have to worry about extending the time. The exhibit was excellent, but I thought it was bigger. But each room had something interesting to see. I liked the mixture of digital art and the 3D object. You need about one hour to enjoy the experience. I am not sure I would pay the full price to go here. read more

I visited on Sunday and had a good time. I enjoyed the Chi it and learned quite a bit about Van Gogh. It was beautiful and kept my interest. I rated this 3 stars however because I believe it is VERY expensive considering it only takes about an hour to go through. And although I loved the exhibit I felt that the art looked very pixelated. The art (and frames) were printed on a weird fabric which looked cheap, didn't give me a good visual on the brush strokes, and overall looked very pixelated. This immersive experience is a great show. Buy tickets online and get there on time, probably the mornings are less crowded. Once you buy the tickets several emails you receive as informational for the life of Van Gogh. The location has adapted for this event. Olympia Theater is transformed into another venue. Several exhibitions, 3D, big screens, literature to read about Van Gogh's life. It is impressive to see how many self portraits Van Gogh made, normally people with many self portraits are egocentric individuals. But you can see the difference on the self portraits, but you can see like the evolution of it. No big ego in Van Gogh, he had a sad and tumultuous life. The exhibit has so many parts that each section has something special. The 360 view is impressive, with sound and the visuals. Go check it out before they leave town! read more

I went here with a friend and was so excited to go but I couldn't justify a 5 star rating. Maybe I'm a snob - I'm from NYC- but I was expecting a bit more. You really only need an hour to go through the exhibit to see Van Gogh and understand everything about his life. I did love the room where you sit and look at all the walls with his projected paintings. I did love the room where you "color" a picture and then it is projected on the wall to show your talents. That was cool. I did not pay an extra $5 to do the vr upstairs- And I believe I made the right call. I ordered the tickets in advance (about two months) and went with a friend I had t seen in 10 years! I did not use the valet for $18 not just b/c of the most eh but I had heard you could wait for your car a long time. I parked nearby outside - I found a good spot. The area is run down so when I got to the venue early I walked around a little to Starbucks and Whole Foods- btw, if you need to use a restroom before hand go to Whole Foods as they are the only ones in the area that will let you use their facilities. I wanted to love it but was underwhelmed. I did see the 3D impressionist show at Adrienne Arsht Center this past summer so that was my expectation for this show. It was like going to a museum. They did have 1 cool thing, a very large room with his paintings moving on the walls, ceiling. They had pillows and rugs that you could sit on and watch the walls. There was a 3D room at the end that you could pay extra to go into. My boyfriend went into it and said it was very cool. It was freezing cold in the theater so I skipped the 3D room and left. read more

My wife is a big Van Gogh lover, so we just had to try out this experience. They had valet parking which made it easy, and allowed us to go from car to the entrance very quickly. The visuals and music was fantastic, made for a truly relaxing mood. We skipped the VR session but many people were trying it out and seemed to be all smiles. You can spend a little bit extra after the main showing to add the VR option even if you don't book your ticket with it already attached, which is nice. Overall had a wonderful time. 8-5-22 1:30pm Friday In the Summer my company has us on half days on Friday's so wanting to make the most of this gift of time decided to come here for the afternoon with my son. I heard rave reviews from my friends who had went. So I take the trek to Downtown Miami not the easiest place to get in and out of. The tickets I bought online and they were actually priced better for weekday afternoon both tickets were just shy of $80 bucks expensive to me. Ok so we head out on 95 South just to sit in bumper to bumper traffic before we get to the Express lane it says the toll was $1.50 but I could care less I just want to get there. Once we take the Miami Avenue exit we work our way over to the historic Olympia Theater on Flagler. But we hit a snag seems like they want to tear up all of Flagler so we park in the nearest garage. Rates rival NYC pricing and are actually dirtier and scarier. I was so glad I was with my son and it was daylight. The garage ended up at $28. for 1.5 hours. We get to the theater they scan our tickets on our phone. Note we were actually a little earlier and they still let us in. The exhibit started with the beautiful backdrop of the famous sunflowers that Van Gogh was famous for painting. But did you know he did a series of this flower not just one painting. You go through and read about the history of his life. Which ended at 33 of suicide. His most famous painting was done from the insane asylum where he lived the painting is Royal blue called starry night. It has stars in the sky over a small village with a dead tree in the background. His last know painting was of tree roots. He became most famous as with most artists after death. He was friends with Paul Gauguin however they had an argument and Van Gogh went in the street and cut off his own ear. Makes you wonder if he was insane or just without medical attention that caused his life to be as it was. After walking through the history of his life you go into a room that you could sit on a bench for 30 minutes and watch this same story in a variation play out through music and lights. After there is a room you can color I am assuming for kids and next you could pay an additional $5.for a VR version. There is also a gift shop at the end. We were surprised that this is all that was there that we went to the beginning to see if we missed anything. I love South Florida but we are not NYC,Paris,Vatican City, London or any other great museums that I have been fortunate to see great art and work. read more

This was fun. My kids and i went during the daytime. Might as well get the VIP experience if you want to do VR and get a poster. If those aren't your style, pay the regular fee and enjoy your walk. The exhibit had a short video (5-8 min), many prints, so much information! But I really felt like I understood his art so much better. The Immersive room was really cool. That runs on a 35 min video experience. They have bean bags and benches to watch the show. They don't sell food, but it's downtown Miami, and there are several options to choose from. Pretty underwhelming experience given the cost and the hype of the exhibit. The exhibit was actually very small, and there weren't that many works being showcased. There were some more 3D elements where they projected paintings on sculptures; but it wasn't incredibly amazing. The highlight of course was the immersive projected 360 room. The idea is pretty cool I think, especially with the raindrops projected into the floor, but I feel like it was essentially a complex slide show of Van Gogh's work and quotes. The works were also the ones already being showcased. Overall, I think if there wasn't such a huge hype and the cost wasn't so high, this would have made for a better experience. The Van Gogh experience is essentially an approximate 30 minute immersive viewing with projected images in a large stage area. If you are not a Van Gogh fan, skip this. So basically it's part museum, part movie experience. I found the pricing to be high for what you get. They had interesting documents about his life and works and it opened my insight into other paintings that he did. Inside the immersive area you will find benches, bean bags, stools and carpets. Basically feel free to sit anywhere you stand as any place is a good spot. There is a gift shop toward the end of your visit and a VR experience that is included with a VIP ticket or $5 if not. Parking is an absolute nightmare as it's street parking only in the downtown area or valet which I don't know how much they will charge. So think of this as an hour experience that will inform you more on Van Gogh's life and work. read more

Wow! What can I say, overall I had such an amazing time enjoying a glimpse of Van Gogh's life in a very cool modern approach. The projections were so soothing and calming and the VRs were super fun. I think what topped it off for me and my friends was how much fun the Manager Jean Pierre made the experience, from the beginning he had us interacting with one another and gave us one of the funnest tours Ive ever had. his knowledge and enthusiasm for Van Gogh was contagious. Call me crazy but I was very disappointed in the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit. I expected so much more. I wonder if other cities have a slightly different exhibit. ??? My original exposure reading about it made me want to run out and see it. I went on line to be sure I could tickets. It only lasted about a half hour then you were herded into a giant expensive gift shop. I'm sure the actual set up was quite a feat to put together. My advice. Don't bother. The Van Gogh experience was great! Truly immersive! There was valet parking on a Friday night. It is right across the street from Lost Boy, which was great. The check in process was quick and easy. It was relatively empty. We purchased the VIP tickets, but could've totally saved the extra $. The gallery provided lots of information about Van Gogh and his life. The actual immersive experience left us in aw. It is literally 360. My husband who has zero interest in art was entertained for at least 45 minutes (haha). We had the virtual reality experience with our tickets. Super neat. It was a good date night idea, but save the money on the VIP tickets. read more

The experience we had was phenomenal! Mr. Jean Pierre Fontaine was an amazing host, who accommodated our group of 42 people. Their favorite room was the last display main room and they were very excited to see their drawings projected on the wall. We had a 3-year-old in our group that kept repeating "Van Go", it was so adorable! Mr. Christian Torres took photos and was incredibly helpful and so was the rest of the team. We are so grateful for the souvenirs that they gave the children to take home, it means the world to us and will help them remember this experience for years to come. read more

Went with husband to Van Gogh in Chicago. It was awesome! Husband didn't love it but I thought it was great. I was able to find half priced tickets so we both went for a bit less than $70. It was neat to see the 3-D projections throughout the different rooms exemplifying 20 years of Van Goughs life and art works. The projections throughout the rooms were incredibly well done and they could be enjoyed throughout the different areas of the venue. We also went to the balcony to take a look at the show from above and it was neat! The venue had seats and chairs throughout for those who want to take a break. Many people were also sitting on the floor to enjoy the foot length paintings. The gift shop was overpriced and we didn't buy anything but some of the items were neat bearing the paintings of Van Gough. The venue also had a Van Gough background where we took pics which was a nice touch. While the show has received criticism for being overpriced and meh I thought for the half priced tickets it was worth it. read more
