Nicest employees ever!
Joyce H.

Wow! First time I have been here but I just wanted to say that the staff here is really helpful and kind. The first employee helped me find tomato cages and check out. He explained their reward card to me and was so nice. The second employee said "have a great day," as I left and a third employee gave a small waved and smiled as I was leaving. Honestly, if I lived near by, I'd be here all the time, just for the amazing interactions. Great value on plants and huge selection. They have everything from pots, statues, soil, to plants, trees and bushes.

LOVE this place!! I heard about this place from Dig Plant Water Repeat and Napa Valley Boy on YouTube. Very nice, reasonably priced plant nursery. They have a better variety and selection of plants and trees in the area. And the workers are very knowledgeable and helpful. I love that there's a great nursery close by that is not a box store. Definitely shop local and shop small family-owned businesses.

Tomato plants, healthy and growing like crazy. Already have many buds

I've mistakenly avoided this nursery in the past and regret it! This year I popped in looking for an unusual plant; not only found it at a reasonable price, but picked up my garden veggies at the same time. Pricing was surprisingly good, some items less than at Home Depot, and the quality was amazing. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Pictured is one of my tomato gardens a mere week after planting.

Huge collection of plants. We only really wanted to find the indoor plant section and it was hard to find so we had to ask - the worker enthusiastically led us to the way. Plant prices are decent. I wouldnt say the cheapest, but definitely not expensive as others! They all seem to be well taken care of!

The tree I purchased, even tho' it looked like a stick.

As far as nurseries go, Van Winden's Garden Center - with its highway adjacent location - didn't knock my socks off but today, less than 6 weeks after purchase, the dwarf fig tree that looks not much different than a stick is suddenly bearing two tiny figs. My excitement over that fact has likely brought an enthusiasm to this review that previously would not have existed. Wandering the outdoor spaces at Van Winden's, the only thing that caught my fancy were fig trees, all of which looked like a similar variety of stick. I'd selected one before a worker here pointed me in a different direction given what she knew about fig trees, their size, and their growing patterns. In hand I'd held a fig tree that actually looked like it might produce something sometime in my lifetime but after speaking with her I swapped that one out for the Violette De Bordeaux Fig which looked like it might not produce anything ever. I had hope but not belief and now I'm joyous. Van Winden's staff were helpful but perhaps not the garden-wonks present in some other nurseries; It was on me to look up my planting zone. The indoor spaces (including the area where one pays) at Van Winden's appeared to have some unique gift items but it's covid times, so I endeavored not to linger in those spaces. This nursery is a good-enough distraction if you're in the area and itching to purchase something for your garden. I'd not go out of my way for Van Winden's and I've definitely enjoyed more inviting, colorful nurseries, but if I wanted a second dwarf fig tree you can bet I'd make a b-line back.

Beautiful rose selection, this is my favorite

This place has been in business for 70 yrs for a reason. Great selection, decently priced. Great service! Picked up a few bonsai starters from lone pine garden to add to my collection. The grounds are well maintained and organized.

Reviews seem good but there is inadequate parking so who knows? It's on a dead end street that needs serious re-paving.

Ask the Community - Van Winden's Garden Center

What kind of indoor plants do they sell, if any?

Is the nursery open right now? Through shelter at home? Do they deliver if things are ordered by phone?…

Just reopened on Friday with limited hours and people allowed in.

I've used their staff for helping me design my yard to repurpose a stale, brown weed lawn into a neighborhood curbside stunner, and have continuously bought vibrant vegetable starts for my backyard raised beds, with abundant results. The staff is really knowledgeable, but what always leaves an impression is their hospitality and welcoming for all aspiration levels of a gardener. You can also find a wide variety of soils, fertilizers, tools, and pots to make all your garden dreams come true. They do not compete in price with the big box stores, but like with anything, you get what you pay for, and supporting a high quality local business like this is worth every penny.

I love just going to visit a few plants I want to put in my yard (we are renovating). So soon those babies will be mine. I enjoy talking to the older distinguished gentleman that always is happy to help and share his knowledge. He's my go to guy. But everyone is helpful. I've been going for over 15 years now and this summer have been there at least once a month. The value is in the product you buy. Because you know it grows in the area and everything has done great. It's nice to support local businesses. Prices are fair to might be out of your budget. But it's worth it to visit this very large nursery. I'd give the if I could.

I was constantly asking for him to confirm the order and asking for the payment information. Never once did he ask me for a deposit. You guys can read the text messages yourselves and see how UNPROFESSIONAL HE WAS! We ARE in mourning.. we ARE grieving. I called him to DOUBLE CHECK IF HE WAS CAPABLE OF FULLFILLING THIS ORDER. I sent over the the picture of the virtual flyer with the name date and address to where the flowers that was suppose to be sent to.. I contacted him the WEEKS PRIOR AGAIN ASKING HIM to please confirm. Which he finally did and told me when he would start on the project 48 hours before the event. asking me what type of flowers I wanted. Never once mentioning to me how he needed a deposit. It was I WHO ASKED HIM "how do I pay you." Which he responded Apple Pay or squarespace. Which I then responded that I have neither. I had Zelle Venmo or PayPal. Is there another way that I can pay you. NO RESPONSE. On the day prior NO ANSWER. THE MORNING 8:30 I called him AND HE FINALLY ANSWERED THE PHONE "hi, have you delivered the flowers yet?".. his response to me. "I will let you know when it will be delivered". I told him the funeral starts at 10am. AND HE HUNG UP ON ME!! For the funeral we had NO FLOWERS!!! Do you not understand what you have done?? This was the last thing that we can do for the person who has passed and WE HAD NOTHING! ITS A FUNERAL!!!!! How can you be so callous? He stopped answering my calls. A volunteer weighs the produce and you pay with a credit card. They had some zinnias and sunflowers for sale but an older woman got there upon opening and bought two buckets of it for 62 dollars and there were no more flowers to buy. I was there for an hour admiring the flowers and different varieties of gourds and vegetables growing. You can rent a private plot for 200 dollars and lots of elderly people were tending to their plants happily and chatted with us as we walked around. A lovely community garden beloved by the old and young. Definitely recommend a trip here and especially on Saturdays when you can get some super fresh garden produce. Cute place.
