Wow! My dad and I were in the mood for pizza so stopped here on the way home from Tuscaloosa. The staff was very kind and offered up a menu and details on how to order, seeing that we were probably new customers. We placed our order and shortly after sitting down the owner introduced himself and shook our hands, very nice guy! We got the 12inch Deluxe Pizza and it was the perfect amount for both of us. The pizza was packed full of meat and plenty of cheese (loovveee cheese). The crust was thin and crispy, and light on my stomach, so it didn't sit heavy which I liked. Flavor was fantastic, so I'll definitely be back if I'm ever passing through again, just wish we had one close to home. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and kept up. Just passing through & after Yelp reviews, we stopped in. First off, customer service was very friendly & nice. Restaurant was clean & spotless. Cute decor. I ordered the smallest house salad and was surprised at the large portion (for a SMALL salad). I think it was only $2.95. Very fresh greens, fresh cut cucumbers, carrots, bell peppers. Only negative about the salad was that the tomatoes had been kept in the refrigerator, which makes them cold and tasteless, but I looked past that. We ordered the veggie delight pizza and it was good. I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was $16.95 (14 or 16"). If the crust had more flavor or there was garlic or some extra flavor, I'd give it a great instead of good. My hubby ordered the gyro and said the pita was fresh & fantastic but the meat could have used more seasoning. Delivered piping hot. I was bummed that Yelp had it noted that they have "Beer and wine only," but they only had beer. I was wanting a red wine with my pizza. Happy to stumble upon Voz again after several years. I worked in the area around 2010 and was sad to see the old location get damaged. Voz and his staff are very welcoming. On a busy Friday night he welcomed a large group of us in and took his time explaining many menu items and accommodating the groups special requests. I had the greek salad and a half portion of lasagna. It was more than enough for dinner. Tasted great, you could easily tell it was homemade pasta. My husband and I took a spur of the moment trip to Tupelo, MS. After searching for restaurants near us, we decided to try Vanelli's. They have options of ordering off of the menu or an all you can eat hotbar. We opted for the hotbar, and it was really good! They have employees who fix your plates, too, so you germaphobes don't have to be quite so worried. The staff is super friendly and checked on us frequently to see if we needed refills or something else from the bar. The price worked out to about $12.50 each for the hotbar and a fountain drink. The only negative I can really add is that the dining area is not that big, but they do have outside seating options, and the weather today was PERFECT for eating outside! All in all, we enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back if we're in the area again. read more

This was my first visit to Vanelli's since the old location was destroyed in the storm. The pizza tasted the same as it did even 10 years ago. That's definitely a good thing. I don't usually eat crust on pizza, but since Vanelli's pizza is so fresh, I eat every bit of every slice. Don't skip out on the garlic cheese sticks... they are sooo good. I went with good ol' classic pepperoni on my visit, but after reading previous reviews, I might try one of their more exciting kinds next time. read more

This is one of my favorite places, especially for "day dates" with my husband. We always have a wonderful experience as the employees are friendly and the owner makes it a point to introduce himself to customers. I usually order the Greek wrap or the bbq chicken pizza or cheese pizza and they are always a hit. I'm so glad this establishment is back. :) read more

Got there at 11:40 am, buffet opens at 11 am. 90% of the food wasn't even hot, barely warm. Definitely not 140 degrees, which is safe temperature to serve. The only thing that was to temp was the pizza. Talked to a staff member about it, and he said,"Oh sorry, it's just because we just put out the buffet a few minutes ago." It should be put out HOT in my opinion. Especially pasta dishes, potatoes, and meats. The beef pot roast was as tough as shoe leather. Inedible. The soft drinks are extra, and o know that, I've been many times. But today the cashier said "X amount of buffets with drinks is X amount." So we all got charged for drinks, all we wanted was water. And the lady behind me ordered to go, and he quoted her a price, and she said, "I don't want a drink, just water." And then he lowered her amount. I assume that's where they make the most profit, is sodas. Anyways, if you just want water, mention it before the cashier adds it onto your bill. I cannot eat at a place that serves lukewarm food from a "hot bar". I have worked in public school cafeterias, and food safety is very important. Please go to Nautical Whimsey instead. You'll be happy you did! Their buffet is always wonderful at The Whimsey down the street. I have to mention that we also ordered 2 large pizzas (takeout) when my family was in town from Florida, from Vanelli's, and I was so embarrassed when we opened the box! The service indeed was fast and they are very polite but the food...we got the baked cheese spaghetti and the Athena calzone. Both dishes had great presentation but once inside the spaghetti, it was cold and watery and didn't have much flavor and the melted cheese on top just became a big blob. The calzone was also cold and watery in the middle and the ingredients didn't get to marry together. The outside is cooked lovely but the inside of the dishes are cooking long enough. Yummy! That's the first word I said after eating this pizza only from here! So, here's the story. We were going to eat at Nautical Whimsey, but the people who work there went on vacation again so we wanted to go to The Stables Grill & Bar. We arrived at a parking spot and got out only to discover the restaurant is on top of a cigar shop! It was smoky beyond belief, and they put out fans which spread the smell. We went in the restaurant and it was smoky, tiny, and all bar. We saw people seat themselves. It was very loud. I didn't write a review because I never ate there so I felt I wasn't permitted to write a review. Then we thought" where are we gonna eat?" We were already downtown and didn't want to leave after all the trouble. We were a small crowd standing in the middle of the sidewalk, coughing from smoke, starving, and without a place to go. We had looked up reviews earlier in the week, and found this place. We walked over and found a friendly-small pizza place. A nice lady seated us and put menus down. We ordered. There were cute cartoons playing for kids and boxing for men on. Then our food came. WOW I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not too pricey. Come here no matter what! read more

I used to love the old place before the tornado hit. The service was always amazing. I try to stop by the new location and grab a bite when I'm in town, but lately their hours are sketchy. I just called at 2pm ..closing hours are listed as 3pm..I tried to place order and was told they are about to close because "we not doing nothing". So glad to see Vanelli's back in business again. The pizza is exactly the same as you remember and the best thing on the menu. Greatest thing for those of us who work downtown is that the service is almost instantaneous if you're just buying pizza by the slice. It's absolutely painless to run in and get a couple slices to take with you. I've eaten tons of pizza around the country, including pizza famous towns like D.C., Chicago, New York and Philly. Co-worker and I were in town for a conference and decided we needed a change from a burger. We were told to go to Vanelli's! Heard the greek salad was incredible and they had the best pizza and pasta! I decided on a calzone. It arrived piping hot with some tasty marinara on the side. My co-worker had the lasagna and she loved it! Perfect portions on both! It's a walk up and order restaurant and they will bring it to you. Additionally, you can bring your own bottle of wine in. This is the type of restaurant that takes your order and money up front and brings your food later. Our first dish came out and my son was done with his food by the time the second dish came out. Then about 7 minutes later our first pizza and then 5 more minutes our last pizza . The whole idea of eating like a family is not possible unless someone has ice cold food. Servers were kind, but kitchen set them up for failure. A bit on the pricey side but the pizzas were good. They saved 3 stars. Other dishes were fair.
