The ER experience was one of the worst I've ever had. Registration didn't even happen until 3 hours after we arrived, well into the visit. My son provided a urine sample that sat on a table the entire time and was never tested. While one nurse was a tad bit decent, the rest of the staff showed a shocking lack of professionalism and basic respect. Staff members (including security) were standing in the hallway laughing, having personal conversations, and at one point I heard someone ask a coworker, "Are you ready for your next victim?"--completely inappropriate in a medical setting. The cleanliness was unacceptable. I noticed red spots on the floor and brought it to a staff member's attention, concerned it was blood. I was told, "That's not blood, that's pizza sauce," and they walked away without addressing it. The bathrooms were in terrible condition! We saw urine on the floor, backed-up toilets, and even spider webs in the corners. The place smelled like old urine! There were patients in the hallway in beds because I guess they ran out of rooms? No privacy whatsoever!! It also felt like care was delayed due to a shift change--we were left waiting until the next staff came in rather than being properly attended to. Overall, the level of care was extremely poor, and my son's issue was never fully addressed. The most alarming part came after we left: I realized in addition to my sons discharge papers, I had been given another patient's discharge paperwork, including highly sensitive information like EKG and chest X-ray results, bloodwork, address, phone number, date of birth, medications, reason for his visit and medical history. I contacted risk management three times and never received a response. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I would not return here under any circumstances. Please, if you have a choice, go somewhere else.

It has been a year since I was carried into the Mountainside ER by the EMT and 4 Firemen, who I want to thank again! I was involved in a snow blower accident where by the commercial snow blower kicked back and then landed on my right knee. The pain was incredible, I could not move my leg at all and if it was moved even the slightest, the pain was enough to put me in shock. Well, once I was carried in ER. The doctor on duty scheduled a x-ray. MRI's are not available at this ER. Crazy! Also there was not orthopedic doc available. The tech came into my room and asked me to come with him. Ok, really. I told him I could not move at all. So he said oh, I wasn't told. He then left and came back with a portable x-ray device. The angles he tried to move my leg, when I say I would of rather had my teeth pulled out with no novocaine then this pain. After that was complete a 1/2 hr later the doctor came to see me to tell me he saw nothing on the x-ray. I was shocked. He told me to follow-up with a orthopedic doctor. The nurse came in with a full leg brace. She asked me to lift my leg so she could put the brace on. WHAT WEREN'T THEY UNDERSTANDING! I could NOT move my leg. Finally she tried lifting my leg and straightening my leg to fit in this brace thing. Screaming like I have never before. The PAIN I would not invite on anyone! Once my leg was in the brace, she asked me to get up. I still didn't get what was going on. I COULD NOT MOVE! The Nurse and my wife then help me off the stretcher. I wanted to shoot myself in the head at this point. No matter how I describe the pain I felt to you all. It is not even close to the real pain I felt. Well fighting through it, with the nurse and my wifes help I was standing up straight. Now what I said. The nurse wanted my to lower myself into the wheelchair. Now again, any slight move the pain was overbearing. So frustrated at this point I dropped into the wheel chair. SCREAMING ! The pain beyond what any human could take. I said get me up! GET ME UP NOW ! Well sitting was not happening. To now make this long story a bit shorter. I took baby steps to my car that my wife went to get. We have a SUV so she was able to help me get in and lay flat. Once home it was a Sh$# show. Getting out of the car. Up the steps. Well of course the pain got the best of me and I fell from the pain and then laid on the ground for over a hour saying don't move me. Friends came later and got me into bed. I schedule a appointment with a orthopedic surgeon. I had to get there which was not easy. Here is where the story gets interesting. HE LOOKS AT THE XRAY AND SAYS HERE IS THE ISSUE. YOUR KNEE CAP (PATELLA) IS UP IN YOUR THIGH AND YOUR PATELLA TENDON IS COMPLETELY RUPTURED IN HALF. YOU NEED SURGERY ASAP. THANK YOU MOUNTAINSIIDE HOSPITAL FOR making me endure the worst pain imaginable and THE worst experiense of my life. I will never walk right again because of you. : (

I want to preface this by saying I am an ICU nurse…read more It's nicely renovated. The staff is polite for the most part. The wait time was minimal when I went. The procedure was smooth. However, I was really put off by the lack of professionalism from the nurses. I've been here twice, both times I was about 20 weeks pregnant. My initial visit was several years ago, when the OB was an older Black gentleman, and the procedure took one day. On my most recent visit (July 2022), the procedure was 2 days. I learned that if you are beyond 14 weeks, it is a 2 day procedure with sedation. This review is based on my visit in July. On the day of, I'm shocked to say that the doctors had excellent bedside manner whereas the nurses left much to be desired. I arrived at 7:40am, and was quickly directed to the area where you change into patient gowns by a nursing assistant (not sure the role because nobody introduces themselves, but he definitely wasn't a nurse). Afterwards, we were ushered into pre-op area where the nurse (I'm assuming because she never told us who she was) inserted an IV and started the Pitocin drip. She was followed by two orientees (Janice and Janine or both had same name). The nurse never verified my identity. She was orienting two new hires. We could over hear her advice them to "rush" because they are often understaffed and frankly want to get out of work on time. I would never say such a thing, certainly not in earshot of patients. However, I empathized a great deal with having too many patients and too little time so I ended up feeling a bit sorry for them. I have never had Pitocin. Admittedly, I felt a bit overconfident while reading the consent forms and didn't ask what the experience would be like. Nobody will explain this to you if you do not ask. Soon after the drip was started, I began experiencing painful contractions. I tried my best to cope, but at some point it became unbearable. I was having nonstop contractions. The woman sitting next to me actually noticed that my IV was running much faster than hers (I received about half a liter while she received roughly 125 ml). At this point, I clamped the line and waited for the nurse to return. The problem was that nobody checked on me. I thought this was actually insane, and worse it made me scared. While I felt sorry for the nurse, I couldn't imagine completely ignoring your patients. Pain makes your patience wear thin, and it took everything I had to maintain a polite tone when I finally caught the nurse (so as to avoid being labeled as a "difficult patient"). I asked for NSAIDS, which she mistakenly heard as 'anesthesia'. Mind you, I was hyperventilating. Luckily I was able to get out "no I meant NSAIDS, as in Tylenol or ibuprofen' before she ran out again. At this point, the anesthesiologist came (only one who told me her name and talked to me as a human being) and explained that she could give me Toradol but that meant she couldn't' give it to me when I went in for procedure. Although they tell you to arrive before 8am, you will be in pre-op for 2 hours. I decided against it since I had 40 minutes left to wait it out. Plus, I know at this point toradol would offer very little pain relief. I was also give misoprostol by a nursing assistant, but did not think twice because frankly what difference did it make who gave it to me at this point. I felt I was going to vomit. I unhooked my IV, and rushed to the bathroom. I couldn't vomit but I felt an urge to push. I was crying and someone knocked on the door. I was ushered into procedural area. I woke up later, shivering uncontrollably. The orientee was more concerned with getting the job done, which was understandable because it's her first day. So I didn't mind when she kept telling me to stop shivering so she could get an accurate blood pressure. I kindly explained that I was cold, and asked for a blanket. I placed the cuff on my opposite arm while explaining that frequently recycling bp would just lead to inaccurate reading. While I waited, I asked the nurse what medications I received in the procedure room. She flipped through a couple of pages before saying "didn't they tell you before? It doesn't matter". I lost whatever semblance of respect I had at this point. I calmly explained to her the words on the page, which lists the medications that *may* be used, and why her answer was dismissive and unacceptable. She told me she was a step down nurse, and while I understood that she was ignorant about OBGYN or PACU, it was irrelevant to her response. I've worked with nurses like this before and normally I'd be ok except I was entirely alone. I broke down into tears because it's so terrifying to be in a dependent role with ppl who don't care Working in an abortion facility is depressing, at least that's what I imagine, so I tried my best to cut them some slack. It's per diem, they are just trying to make extra cash. But it shouldn't be the patients job to empathize with the nurse.

The next available appointment was not for another three weeks but I rescheduled. Tried calling back to see if another doctor could see me sooner. First two times I called the phone just rang for awhile before being sent to a voicemailbox that was full and told to try again. Third time I was placed on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up. Tried again later in the day and was put on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up on. Finally was able to get ahold of someone the fifth try after being placed on hold for another 10 minutes, needless to say I will be finding another office that values their patients more and staffs their office appropriately.

I had an 8 am appointment and I was seen almost immediately after being checked in. The ultrasound technician who works with me was Rebecca - I believe. She was so incredibly patient with me and explained every step of the process. I was nervous and they made sure to ask me if I was okay, if I was comfortable and I really needed that that day! The facility was clean and the waiting room had coffee and tea for the patients who were waiting. There was also a tv, magazines and lockers to stow your belongings.

I also was able to confirm and update my vaccinations. Everything I needed was called into my local pharmacy and available for pick up. Their patient portal makes it easy to keep your medical records all in one place, although admittedly I had a problem finding the the tab to convert them to PDF and print them. My only complaint is that I found it annoying that I spent 5 minutes completing a patient questionnaire, only to be asked the same exact questions again in the exam room by the nurse. This is a waste of time and paper. I am glad that I finally found a local primary care physician who is nice, competent, and local. Hooray!

The doctor was not professional and the best example I have is him literally POKING an area that I was in to have examined with his BARE FINGER without any warning, which in turn made me SWAT his finger away from me and scream OUCH because it hurt and also because he did NOT have on medical examination gloves!
