Dear Vanguard off Redland Road, Very sadly, my sweet Sammi and Daisy have passed away. I have been going to your clinic for years now for three of my dogs. I had made an appointment with your clinic for Sammi to be seen and to be put out of her suffering. However, my last visit was deeply upsetting. I told the front desk Sammi was dying, I was left waiting for more than 30 minutes, while staff was laughing and discussing weekend plans and no one came in to check on us. No one apologized and no one seemed to be concerned, No one seemed to care that I was bringing Sammi in because she was dying. In that painful moment, I realized this was not the environment where I wanted Sammi's final moments to be spent. Again, no one said anything upon my exit nor called to follow up. I ended up taking her to another clinic, with a friend's suggestion: Encino Park Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Wilkerson, where the staff were incredibly compassionate, understanding, and gentle, everything I had hoped for during such a heartbreaking time. Sammi and Daisy were treated with love and dignity, and they both have since passed peacefully. Encino Park Veterinary Clinic even sent a condolence card where the entire team signed it coupled with Dr Wilkerson sending me a bouquet of beautiful flowers with a touching note and I just met them. I have been a long-time client of yours, and I always hoped that Sammi, Daisy and all my pets, were known and cared for as part of your extended family. The fact that I'm still receiving follow-up messages about their care only deepens the disappointment and sadness I feel. I'm sharing this feedback not out of anger, but in the hope that your team might reflect on how important genuine compassion and communication are, especially for clients facing the most difficult moments with their beloved pets. My spouse and I went to the Vanguard Mobile clinic on June 9th between the scheduled 6pm-8pm on location: Pet's Barn on Potranco @ Dugas. The wait was so long that my two cats suffered in extreme heat. There weren't that many people waiting in line. In fact, there was only one customer in front of us. We've been going for years to Vanguard's Mobile clinics and that was the first time we had an unpleasant experience with Vanguard's crew especially the young arrogant, rude Caucasian male (he prepared the vaccines). From the get go, he kept interrupting me while I was giving history of my pets' condition, etc. The individual was extremely rude and I was offended by his demeanor. I hope I never have to deal with him again EVER! I never had any problem with any of Vanguard's staff before until the incident on June 9th 2026. The man needs to be trained further in proper communication with customers in order to prevent unnecessary discomfort for both pets and owners. The long wait was ridiculous! In addition, the man I spoke of, acted and spoke as if he knew everything. I raised my cats from kittens to adult cats. The individual that gave them the shots acted as if he spent time with them hourly and daily. He sounded so arrogant and ignorant. I was very much offended by his character. I took my dog in for her annual check up. They recommended blood work and approved the cost. I hadn't heard back from them for 2 weeks and thought I needed to contact them. Turns out my golden doodle had a UTI and no one ever looked at the blood work results. The results were in one week after and had to call a week after to find out. If I hadn't called, I don't know how long it would have taken them to let me know. I will be looking for another vet. read more

If you have an indoor outdoor cat or pet don't go here they don't know how to handle them. Go somewhere else, because they will still charge for the check up when they did nothing. Also turned out that my cat was sick and I had to go to another vet to find out. So due to their lack of experience and handling over several visits they didn't diagnose him till i switched vets. Don't bother considering going to any of their pop up clinics. The vaccines are not low cost. I wanted a low cost way to get my cats vaccinated and found them on line. They had a red poop tent at an HEB close by. So I went there and it all seemed very chaotic how the process went. Like they were selling phone service or something else but not a vet clinic. The prices are not low cost. Two cats it cost me $150 for rabies and feline leukaemia vaccines. $150!!! It was way more costly than if I would've gone to my regular vet inside and not in a random parking lot. Instead I had to take my cats to their parking lot set up. I brought my cats in their carriers up to the table. No drive through type thing or any indication on what to do upon arrival. Then they said to go back to my car and this, I'm assuming, vet tech came over with a form for me to fill out of what I wanted done. I also wanted to get them checked out for heart worms and any other parasites. It was listed on their form. They didn't do this. Instead the vet tech roughly came over and gave my cats a shot in each leg. I have done injections and jabbing the syringe in isn't how you do it. Then he had me leave my cats in the car and go pay. They don't accept cash and I didn't get a receipt but had to use my credit card. He said they would offer me $10 off since I brought in two. However no discount was given and they all seemed like they were clerks instead of having any knowledge of veterinarian medicine. One of my cats is petite and she was absolutely traumatized by the whole scene. She was panting and shaking from the experience. I'm not sure even if there was even a veterinarian present. Nobody introduced me to a vet and since no receipt was given, I question why I trusted them in the first place. I've been to other poo up type vaccine clinics and it's more like $40 and they gave more than just the two vaccines. The website looks impressive and even says Low Cost. It's very deceiving and be forewarned they're not a low cost clinic. read more

I got my dog spayed here & they did such a great job! Customer service was super helpful they were friendly & repeated the going home instructions a lot! Intake in the morning got us in really quick within 15 minutes we signed paperwork & went on our way! My puppy's suture didn't look bad either they did a great job & now she's healing great! read more

Pepper is resting now..... Vanguard has always been the affordable vet service at HEB. but when i called to get an idea of cost for euthanizing my 13 YO Healer, i was amazed. from $400 -$300 without cremation. I called Vanguard office and found out the price and asked about the process. So kind as she could hear that i was not doing well. i told her i would take an appt as we were not sure about timing for Pepper who had been struggling with getting up and urinating soon as she drank water. Finally we showed up my daughter insisted on going and holder her paw. They let us have as much time as we needed with sweet music going and pepper getting hugs albeit with tears.. The doctor came in and it was over. sad but easily done. They put her in a soft bag and loaded her in by truck. I buried her and am forever grateful for their compassion toward my dog and my daughter.. We received a condolence card with 9 people signing it several had seen the tough time we had and sent this love letter to our family. We have always used and been happy with pop up clinics. Brought my ferret here for an X-ray, spent more than the average X-ray cost for ferrets even, I don't know where they even came up with their price. After all was checked out, they came back saying even with the X-rays they had no idea if it was a gas build up or a foreign object which is obviously the case of why I brought my pet here, but to have even the X-rays and still give no clue of an idea at what is wrong is the most genuinely concerning thing, because how can this be your only job and have physical X-rays and still not have a clue at what is wrong internally? Finally I said excuse me but I have an appointment which they already knew cause I had to call them from my car to let them know I was there for an appointment for my dog. We live in New Braunfels and have a fabulous vet there who unfortunately was back ordered on the influenza shot and mentioned that everyone in our area was also out of the shot! We then we're recommended to Vanguard by a boarding place I will not name. This Vanguard place is TRAGIC. Once we arrived we had to wait outside due to no rooms being available, even with having an appointment! They finally called us into a room where we have been sitting for 50 minutes with no assistance. I've never had to wait even 5 minutes ever to see a vet or vet tech. This is absurd. This veterinarian center was very nice ! First time here ! We have to wait in our cars until the doctor came to speak to us! Maybe waited about 15 mins. We wore masks . They took my puppy in for shots by himself. They did carry him in and other dogs . I'm glad cause it was a little warm that day on the pavement . There is grass near so I could take my puppy to use the potty. The vet that came to my car was very thorough and helpful with information. I was a little lost with it being my first time and first puppy and shots, she was very patient and made sure i was okay with the information. I do recommend this place ! I went to a real vet to get them out because Vanguard is a joke. I wouldn't take your animals here. They are careless and heartless. They don't respond after you contact with concerns with your baby after the visit. If you care about your fur baby & your wallet go somewhere else. As you can expect an office fee.That's about $80 plus a tech "handling" fee for another $10. Even if you help or do more than the tech they still charge full price & don't explain anything until after.They start with the most expensive products & services.The membership plan you have to ask about,they don't advertise it in plan site at the waiting areas. Most vets are expensive but I will say the office visit is now more expensive than local vets in the area. I've left a great review before, but wanted to leave another one just because! First off, I would like to say how AMAZING and KIND Brittany is! My dogs favorite part of coming to the vet is her. She always shows such love and excitement when they walk in and immediately come up to her for licks and cuddles. She's the reason I still bring my dogs to this location. Second, I want to give a shout-out to Rebecca! She is honestly the best technician I've ever had for my animals! When discussing shots, meds, and everything else regarding both my 3 cats and 3 dogs, she is extremely informative and always takes my opinions and needs into consideration. I have several issues with this place; here are some of the main ones: Asked them to clip my pets nails, they took him in another room brought him back and his nails looked the same. I asked if they were going to clip them and was told they did the best they could. Charged me $25. My dog has allergies. I asked for a refill prescription which I found on chewy for much less. Called them to see if they would confirm the prescription and was told they don't fulfill online orders. Made me think they were all about getting as much money as possible. Side note; I will not be bringing any of my pets back here. Recommend staying away. There are way better veteranian offices out there. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PLACE YOU CAN TAKE YOUR ANIMAL IF IN NEED OF REAL MEDICAL ATTENTION. They will try to tack on unnecessary procedures. I took my dog in because he was attacked by a neighbors dog and unfortunately had a small gash near his groin area. They charged me $260 for a vet visit- didn't clean his wound and gave me two weeks worth of antibiotics. Then recommended I have him neutered which I was all for. They came back with a quote of $800 to neuter him, which is unheard of. I asked why so expensive and vet explained she recommended his testicles be sent out to a lab to be tested for cancer. Am i living in the twilight zone or is this just crazy! When i denied the lab testing the vet flat out told me he couldn't be neutered there. Disappointed on how high the prices have gone up this year. Last year I paid $10.31 for a heart worm test and this year it was $31.00 I bought 6 month supply of heart worm pills that were 48.00 and last year for a year was $60.82. Called in a refill for my pet they said they would call me when it was ready. 4 days later I called them back just to be told, " o yeah it was ready 2 days ago", but nobody bothered to call? This office has been here awhile and seemed very convenient. Even before COVID, we popped in to check a stray dog for a chip. We were treated as an inconvenience and asked to wait outside. Another time, we walked in with a question about a new kitten and were asked to call and to leave. Recently, we thought we would try one more time since our pets are older now and time is a car is stressful. We explained all this prior to confirming the appt. The check in was done and yet the wait was 1.5 hrs with no contact. No texting, no calling. When we went in to check we were asked to leave. If you are looking for kind considerate vets and office staff, this is not the place. 3rd attempt was the last straw. Look around and ask questions. This place does not have the attention, consideration and compassion most are looking for in a vet. read more
