Then again, a week to deadline. Assured we are on track and on April 14th she emails (finally) and says "due to time she is filing an extension"... what???!!! When you complain, she kept my deposit and told me to go elsewhere. The whole thing is extremely upsetting. I really did my best to work with her... it's just an impossible situation. I've never encountered a situation like this before with anyone else. It's not too much to ask someone in private practice (who charges $400 an hour) to reply.

But we did not understand how drastic the changes would be. We went from getting about $2,000 back per year to owing $6,000!!! We thought that our refund would be very small or that we would about break even. An $8,000 swing is crazy. Tax laws are purposely complicated. I'm not a CPA. I don't understand tax law. That's what I pay Noto for. He's supposed to know these things. I feel that since the changes were so huge in 2018 that he should have given his customers the courtesy of a quick phone call or an e-mail. How difficult would it have been for him to just type a quick e-mail blast to tell everyone to look at changing their deductions? He had a whole year. Did he just not want to deal with the number of customers wishing to schedule appointments to discuss their taxes? I also corrected a mistake he made on one of our returns a few years ago. I remember him chuckling and saying, "Don't tell anybody." Also, I started doing a review program with Best Buy last year. They send me products to test and I review them on their website. I called Noto to ask him about the tax implications of this before starting the program and he told me that if I kept the products to under $5,000 worth for the year I should be OK. I did about $2,000 worth of products and that screwed us. So he was wrong about that also. So I stand by my review. The man is useless and I will NOT be paying for his services again. I know some other customers of his that were also blind-sided by their 2018 taxes and won't be using him either. I am not the only customer he has lost over this.
