Three weeks post-op from knee replacement surgery, I started physical therapy. My choice of location was Vargo Physical Therapy in Porter Ranch. I couldn't have picked a better facility to rehab my knee! No doubt it's a busy location, but I never waited more than 5 minutes for the call to start the session. It's a friendly, professional environment, one that's conducive to social interaction with the aides who set up the exercise routines at every visit (Mark, 'D', Gabriel, Jonathan, Gabby, Lindsay, David and Chance) and the PT assistants (Mike and Justin) who helped me take my mind off the 'discomfort' associated with the stretching and massaging to break up scar tissue to insure a successful outcome to all the hard work. Gene, the head physical therapist, guided me through the steps at the clinic and especially at home to set me on the path to resume the physical activities I'd been doing prior to the surgery. If I call and your phone person makes it absurdly clear that I am not to ask questions, express concern about the way I'm being spoken to, and immediately go straight to my insurance info without even a breath towards why I'm calling, make me feel like I'm an ATM for the business to access and that is my entire value in the exchange, all while telling me how many people are on hold waiting for her imperiousness to deign to get to them, how do you think I'm gonna react?!?! If you make me feel like THAT on first contact, it would be lunacy to go forward with that, wouldn't you think? Well, that's what I think. If you've ever wondered what it feels like to inconvenience someone simply by existing, just schedule an appointment at Vargo Physical Therapy in Northridge/Porter Ranch after 4pm. You'll be warmly welcomed by the front desk lady whose signature move is extending her hand--without eye contact, without a smile--so you may place your credit card into it. It's less "patient care" and more "self-checkout kiosk," except the kiosk would probably be friendlier. Calling to make an appointment? Oh, that's a fun little endurance sport. The phone is rarely answered at any time of day. You'll leave messages. Plural. Eventually, someone may call you back. Miss that call? Congratulations -- you've unlocked the next level: start the process all over again. And on the rare occasion a live person does answer, be prepared to enjoy 10+ minutes on hold. If you dare to express frustration about the wait (after chasing them for days just to schedule), you may be politely informed that she does not appreciate being talked to badly. The irony is almost impressive. How exactly are patients expected to remain calm when simply securing an appointment requires this much persistence? Now, to be fair: the therapists themselves are professional and do a solid job. That's the real shame here. Because good clinicians deserve a front office that doesn't drive patients away before they even get on a treatment table. This has been going on for years. My husband experienced it. My son experienced it. I see reviews from two years ago saying the exact same thing. So either every front desk employee they've ever hired dislikes their job equally, or it's the same person who has perfected the art of customer indifference. Let me break the news gently: you are not the only physical therapy office in town. From now on, my family will be going elsewhere. And yes, my extended circle of friends will absolutely hear about how difficult it is to get something as simple as an appointment at this location, and how unaccommodating the front desk experience has been. A front desk sets the tone. Here, the tone is clear: your payment is welcome -- your presence, less so. As for us, we're done. I have been going here for several months for a shoulder issue. As I have progressed through my therapy, my range of motion has increased significantly. The entire staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The at-home exercises designed for me have been extremely beneficial. I want to shout out Joshua, Mark and Lindsey, who I worked with most of the time. I am continuing my program at home for the time being, but I would never hesitate to come back here if needed. Great staff who go the extra mile and truly care about all of their patients return to full range of motion and strength. Excellent physical therapy treatment with all the latest equipment and tools available to rehabilitate most any patient. Just be sure to wash your hands after each treatment, as I don't see the tables and equipment being thoroughly sprayed or sanitized after each patients use. This could be a problem if you are elderly and or immunocompromised. Very young but well trained staff that is very accommodating to each patients individual needs. read more

For the most part, I 100% do not. Therapists like Justin Castillo really shouldn't be doing this. He sucks at his job. Half the time he is texting and shooting the shit and laughing with the other PTs. He comes over for 5 min or less and glazes your back and is on his way. The reason for the excellent review is that the aids are great and on my last appointment, I saw Joshua Garrett. He felt where the issues were and worked on those specific areas and answered all the questions I had. I have been there for 7 sessions now and not once have I seen him sitting on his ass and texting and shooting the shit. He is one of the few stars of this clinic. The aids are also great, professional, helpful and kind and you also don't see them sitting on their asses, shooting the shit and texting. The body is a very comical edge system. A one for all, all for one print out of excersizes is not effective. The specific needs need to be evaluated and analyzed to prescribe the right excersizes. I'm going to M3 PT in West Hills and paying out of pocket to be at an actual clinic. I will be seen by the physical therapist the whole time and not just given a set of excersizes and timers set. I hope the actual good therapists at Vargo get jobs at good clinics. This IS NOT one of them. read more

I visited Vargo Physical Therapy Offices for 4 sessions for my back, and my experience was a bit mixed. On my first visit. the front desk receptionist assumed I was under 18 years old, which was a bit off-putting and wanted my "parent to come in for a signature" (I may look young but not that young). I feel it is important for staff to avoid making assumptions based on appearances, as it can impact the overall customer experience. Another issue I encountered was the staffing situation. Despite there being multiple tables open, it seemed like there wasn't enough staff to attend to everyone efficiently. There were multiple occassions where I finished all my stretches and had to wait for the physical therapist. I met with Luke most of the time, he was very kind and helpful, but I didn't feel that way about everyone I worked with. On a positive note, the eventual care I received for my back concerns was semi effective in strengthening my core. However, I can't overlook the initial challenges that made the experience less than ideal. read more

This review is long overdue. I been to many physical therapy center and I wasn't seeing results. I am glad to discover this place. They give you good exercise regime created by ex director Narmine. The people that worked on me Will, 2 Mikes, and Luke were awesome. My back posture is improved a lot. It would be good if the therapist can show the patients of how to do all the exercises once. The therapist assistant (students) sometimes forget to come to your bedside. The center is big and they have the many equipments that meet your body needs. You get a short light massage with every visit which I like. The parking can be hard to get but there is a free valet. The ladies at the front desk should smile more and return phone calls. read more

And Lizette Wood the Physical Therapist Assistant, especially took me from absolute devastation about the immobility of my left shoulder and arm, to brightly hopeful about my future in using that side of my body! Starting by the appointment, I will not trust this place. I called asking for an appointment due to neck pain, the receptionist said that the closest appointment would be in two to three months. My question is why do they mislead saying they have openings when they don't have. I understand waiting one month but two or three months when probably you already have been treated and not when you need to be released from the pain you have. read more

I'm on my second round of physical therapy, the first round was my finger and now I am working on my left ankle. This is by far the best physical therapy facility in the region. Just started . Great team! I'm healing from a broken ankle and after one session I was able to walk with one crutch instead of two.

I felt like noone knew what they were doing. Everyone Was contradicting one another and coming over and correcting each other. It just seemed like nobody cared to be informed. When I became concerned and asked about my prescription the answer was they could not find it. I never returned since they were working on me and doing all the wrong bodyparts. I highly recommend Vargo for physical therapy!! Nermin, Ryan, other staff members have helped me so much!! I had PT sessions for most of 2022 for my back, which I believe helped me to avoid surgery. I came back recently this year for a "refresher" before I head out for some international travel. Last year I could not have imagined feeling well enough to sit on an airplane for more than 10 hours but now I can. When I started PT in 2022 I could barely sit to drive a few miles in my car without extreme sciatica pain. The therapists at Vargo are consummate professionals who really listen to their clients and do their best to treat them. I leave Vargo PT with greater knowledge as well as a personalized exercise regime for my orthopedic issues. I rate Vargo a 10+! read more

Depending on your impairment, run, walk, slither or crawl to another place! That is, unless you don't mind being asked each time you go there- which knee, hip, shoulder, foot etc, is it? Look at the chart people! Expect to never start at your appointment time. Bring something to entertain yourself while you wait and wait after they give you an exercise that they set a timer for two minutes and then they don't come back to you for ten! Like meeting different people? You can meet up to four different CSUN students (aides) who will "attend" to you in one visit, and they will ask you what exercises have you already done, and what do you usually do next?!!! I was asked multiple times how many electrodes do I get and where do they usually put them! You will get an actual physical therapist for maybe 8 minutes of your visit. That is the only redeeming feature of this location. I am using a different name in the fear that in the future my medical plan will send me back there without a choice! At the end of February I had a full Knee Replacement. Since I had a replacement on my other knee 8 years ago and that went very well, I assumed this would be the same.....NOT SO! For the next 4 1/2 months I had extreme pain so intense I could not sleep during that time. Then I went to Vargo Physical Therapy and met Mike Ford and the amazing team at Vargo. I first have to say something about Vargo as a business. This is the BEST run business I have ever experienced in any field of business (banking, retail, leisure, you name it none, and I mean NONE operate as well as Vargo Physical Therapy. Thats saying a lot since I am a Scout for the NBA and have travelled all over the world. One of the things I judge every business on is how well the employee get along and treat each other. This entire team genuinely likes each other and treat one another with the utmost respect. I figure if this is how they treat each other I will get the same treatment. (I actually received better !!!) Anyway, it was rough sledding at first and Mike had to push me harder than I was ready for. But I endured. With the encouragement of the ENTIRE team I persevered! So little by little I saw significant improvement. Just so you know, the way Vargo works EVERYBODY pitches in. And, incredibly enough Everybody, I mean Everybody knows what they're doing. From the minute you walk in the door, the receptionists Gina and Kyla greet you by your name and direct you where to go. Always with a warm smile! Then the main therapist that will work with you greets you and says hello. Could be anyone of the amazing Therapists from Mike Ford, Nermin, Ryan, or Jenna. Keep in mind some of these talented therapists actually have the Title of Doctor with their advanced education. Before you get to be one on one with your main therapists you will be attended to by one of a number Physical Therapists in training. From Jennifer, Brenda, Kirsten,Lilly, Brandon, Sydney, and host of other Techs. Again, everyone knows what they are doing. An example of this is if a patient is doing a prescribed exercise by himself and they are using the wrong technique one of the many talented people in this office will correct you. Every single action every single exercise you do in this office has a meaning and a purpose. After you get up from one of twenty plus tables, an attendant will go right over and wipe that table down and wash the pillow case and towel used. In other words it is pristinely clean, particularly during the COVID-19 experience. So here I am with my knee responding like a champion 4 1/2 months later all due to the BEST BUSINESS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AND PROBABLY ANYWHERE ! One last thing I could not have done this without this team's Sense of Humor. The laughs just keep on coming ! You know in Southern California there is a saying about Disneyland being the "Happiest Place on Earth" Well, for me Disneyland has to share that now with Vargo Physical Therapy is "THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH" ......and they fixed my knee. I'm writing this review on behalf of my mom Nina. My mom came to Nermin at Vargo physical therapy with such massive pain that she could not walk. I cannot rave enough about the care she received from Nermin and his team. Not only did they give her the best attention during her appointment, but also sent her home with the right tools and instructions on how to aid in her recovery and maintain it. Most places you go to, you feel rushed, but not here. They were so kind, so patient and so attentive. My mom would come home beyond happy in a wonderful mood, and little by little and her pain was disappearing. I'm so pleased to say that my mom is 100% recovered thanks to Nermin and his team. I've actually been through two rounds of PT at this location. First round (two years ago) was for both lower-back and neck. Lower-back resolved almost immediately (yay). Neck took longer. I was going to continue with more sessions but COVID hit. Still, I kept up my exercises at home and was successful. Second round, more recently, I had a severe burning pain in my upper back. Nermin explained to me what muscle was in trouble, and through exercise and massage it got better...but then the neck issue re-surfaced. Yep, it was the same nerve all along...just in a different place. So we went back to the neck exercises and massages and now that is settling down again too. I went literallly from 'I can't live like this' to 'I'm back walking and biking and volunteering'. It's one giant room with all of the PT's and Aides scurrying around helping people. It may seem a little like chaos at first, but it works surprisingly well. Everyone is looking out for you even if you don't see them doing it. Although I have to admit that I do have favorites, they're all good and I do enjoy getting slightly different approaches. Sometimes I just need someone to explain things a little differently before I 'get it'. I just finished yesterday (insurance said enough), and I miss them already. Let's talk about the actual physical therapy service first. I liked the physical therapists and my evaluator (Ryan, Mike, Jenna & Nermin). I think they genuinely cared and did try to help me with my condition. And I appreciate their service. The aids (that were assigned to me), on the other hand, didn't seem to care with the exception of one, Lilian(spelling?). Lilian was great. I even adjusted my schedule to see her. She'd make sure I did everything right and promptly advised me what the next exercise was. The other aids? They're laughable. They'd leave you alone to attend to other patients (which is fine), then forget about you (problem!). I had to look for them between exercises for guidance. There's one aid who didn't even come to me and gave me the exercise instructions as she was doing paperwork from across the room. We come here for professional help. If I knew the exercises, I'd do everything in my home. This is why I adjusted my schedule to see Lilian. I appreciate her help and professionalism. Now, the part where this facility FAILED big time: the front office. On 04/10/2020, I was there for my first visit. They told me the copay was $50, I paid. After the session, I called my insurance (UHC) and my medical group (Regal). They said the co-pay for a PT session is $25, not $50. UHC called the front office and got it sorted out. I was told my extra $25 from the first session would go towards my second session. UHC records all phone calls & they take notes for every phone session they have with anyone, btw. I also spoke with Kyla (via email), Emily from billing & Dakota on the phone. I went for my second visit on 04/17/2020 with no issue & again, they confirmed that I owed nothing for the second visit since they were just gonna apply the extra $25 from the previous session to my second session. The fact they didn't ask for the co-pay shows that they knew I didn't have to pay for the second session, otherwise they would have asked me for payment before or after my session like they always did with me. It appeared, at this point, the issue was resolved & everything was good. So, I continued my treatments at this facility. Today. 06/01 I received a $25 bill. I emailed Kyla, she told me to call billing. I did & spoke with Jennifer. She said for my first session it is $50 and there were no notes about this being $25 and I owed $25 for the second session. I reached out to Kyla again via email, no help. I called the front office. Gina said it's because it's $25 for consultation and $25 for treatment on the first day? WHAT? This was the first time I was ever told about this. She refused to help me and kept saying "I can't help you." What do you mean you can't help me? You spoke with the insurance on 04/10/2020 AND Kyla confirmed in WRITING the copay is $25, not $50. She was rude, unprofessional and just very unpleasant to talk to. I then asked to speak with a manager. He just repeated what Gina told me that it was $25 for consultation and $25 for treatment. At this point, I was done. So, I called UHC. We did a 4 way phone call. Me, UHC, Gina & Jennifer. UHC pulled out their notes & call logs. They confirmed that they spoke with this Vargo on 04/10/2020. UHC & Jennifer (after calling Regal) confirmed the first session is $25 (all inclusive) 7 I owe $0 for the second visit. Jennifer was courteous & professional. She fixed the issue & apologized for the misunderstanding. Kyla and Gina? Nope. Not for what happened on 04/10/2020. Not for what happened today 06/01/2020. When I asked Gina for an apology, she said "I apologized the insurance misquoted us". Please. So, they misquoted you at first but this was cleared up on 04/10. Again, the call was noted by UHC & Kyla confirmed this via email too. So why was this happening again on 06/01? What happened today could have been fixed easily, had Kyla & Gina been professional. But I ended up spending hours talking to different people to get this fixed. Why so much mix up? It's $25 per-visit. Period. I won't be coming back, obviously read more

Vargo is a patient mill. Out of an hour long session if you get 10 minutes with a PT your lucky, usually you just get a visit with an PT Aid. They show you your exercises and then leave you on your own with no supervision to see if your he form the is correct. Too many TVs blaring add to this unprofessional environment or perhaps the staff who just want to goof around with each other. When I would explains thing that were going on with my injury or ask questions they would say that one has nothing to do with the other and dismiss my concerns and tell me that they knew what they were doing and I should stick to their treatment plan. Very ego based in my opinion. Went the entire time of my prescription, did my homework and saw little improvement. read more

Apparently if you have an injury and need physical therapy in the Valley you're likely to be on your own for over a month before getting an appointment. When the first place we were referred to didn't have availability until November we called the location on Tampa yesterday and were advised they could accomodate in mid October but they wouldn't book the appointment without the referral letter. We had the referral letter revised and called back this morning, less than 24 hours later, only to be told they aren't booking new appointments until November but that we could book at one of their locations further away that have better availability. I came to Vargo June 24th, 2022 this year after having an extremely difficult rotator cuff surgery on April 28th, 2022 which occurred in August of 2005. I have been dealing with pain and limited mobility for 17 years. When I first came to PT, I had zero muscle left in my arm or shoulder, and tons of atrophied. I first saw Ryan who checked me in and examined me, and BTW is a super nice guy! Then, a week or two later Mike took my case on. Mike was a rockstar from the get go. He immediately gave me an exercise routine to work on at home as well as treated me like a brother the whole time he worked with me. Mike is very professional and I can say with confidence that his methods work! It is now October 18th, and I saw my surgeon this morning who gave me a clean bill of health. So, in 3 1/2 months of PT, I have complete mobility of my shoulder, back to building some muscle, and have absolutely no pain, which was my main reason for doing the surgery. Today my surgeon (Dr. Bittar), used phrases like, "way ahead of schedule", and "best possible outcome"! To say I am thrilled and overjoyed is an understatement! To the staff at Vargo, especially Mike and Tolleen who have helped me and encouraged me to do my best, I am forever grateful! Thank you very much for taking your time to help me heal! read more

The staff as a whole are extremely professional. Having experience a major tear of my rotator cuff. I had a number of concerns which created self fear. As we navigated through the different therapy sessions, my work ethic and confidence grew stronger. I totally atribute the personal touch and expertise I received from each and every staff member, which increased my confidence level. As the therapist put together a number of rehabilitation exercises which gave me a sense of relief of my concerns and fears. So I got a prescription for physical therapy and someone recommended Vargo after using them at a different location. I chose the porter ranch location, as it was closer to my home. I called them and spoke to a less than personable lady. She took down my name and phone number and said she would call me back. She made it sound like she was going to call me right back that day. Well... That was last week. I never heard back from them. That seems very unprofessional. After looking through the reviews for this location, it seems I might've dodged a bullet anyway. This is indeed a franchise business, other franchise locations should be worried that the porter ranch location is detracting from the Vargo name and giving them all a bad reputation. Needless to say I will be finding a different physical therapy place to give my business to. Update: Nice of you to finally get back to me....( many weeks later and sans the don't give an "f" attitude)... but what about all the other one star reviews I read for your location who never received any apology or feedback... from my point of view your location is indeed falling far short. be sure to ask every possible question when making an appointment. - what time of prescriptions you require, when a prescription is considered expired - what insurance you take - what condition you treat if you don't do it yourself you'll be up for a very unpleasant surprise once you get to the place. With that said, Vargos has excellent therapists - professional, respectful, with impeccable bedside manners (don't if saying bedside manners applies to physical therapy). I have rehab-ed my back here twice, and a knee replacement. The physical therapists here have a great beside manner, and a wonderful professionalism as well. Particularly Nermin, Ryan, and Mike. It reminded me of going to the training room in college, in a good way. My progress, and level of care was always outstanding. I also brought both my kids here to rehab HS sports injuries, which Vargo on Tampa provided great care, and helped them both return to playing. It may take a while to get in to be assessed, but is worth it for the terrific care, and results. Love these folks! read more
