Could not be more disappointed after once believing in this place. Whether it be their less than friendly greeter/scheduler at the front counter to staff that gets caught up in conversing, standing around trying to look busy, or overly focusing on specific patients and forgetting others which causes long delays on keeping the session fluid from exercise to exercise or treatment to treatment. Today, I had an injury evaluated for the first time, while I've been getting another injury treated. After I went through the evaluation with a very nice therapist who is on a short term contract with Vargo, I only had one person approach me over the next 25+ minutes in there. A CSUN student who apologized for coming over late and then told me to perform 20 shoulder shrugs and 20 shoulder rolls. All of that time wasted to do 40 reps, which I extended as long as I could because I was like invisible in there. I just sat there and couldn't believe how much unproductive time had passed. So over those next 25+ minutes, having only the shoulder shrugs and shoulder rolls to perform, nobody checked in on what I'd do next (as I watched other patients being tended to). I decided to pick up my personal items, made a next appt., and prepared to leave. One of the nicer therapists (the one who did my eval) came over to me and asked me if I was leaving and what about my stim (muscle stimulation) and ice? I told her that for the last 25 minutes nobody had done really anything with me. When I was sitting on the treatment table, watching the aides, therapists, and CSUN PT students, and seeing that some of them looked over at me, wouldn't common sense trigger by realizing that patient is just sitting there with all kinds of unproductive time passing and nobody is even checking on me? It should NOT have come down to that. It wasn't this therapist's fault. Someone should have been aware and focused on the balance of my treatment for me to complete my session (ice and muscle stim). There had been more than sufficient time to do that with me. In the past, with some prior injuries, the treatments and attitudes of most of the employees were consistently good. I had a complete tear of my rotator cuff and a frozen shoulder. My surgeon referred me to this place. On my first visit, which was only 3 weeks post surgery, I'm lying on the table and I told Ryan I was still experiencing pain in the surgical site. He presses hard on my incision site and asks, "Here?" I almost flew off the table. What an idiot! I asked for another therapist for the 2nd visit. This woman must have enjoyed torturing people. After some warm-up time, she proceeded to stretch my newly-operated-on arm to straighten it and I can't tell you the agony I experienced! I had never been to physical therapy before but I had watched several videos and nobody did such a thing to a newly operated patient. After the next visit, and an equally excruciating experience, I could not go back. I was actually waking up in the middle of the night before the next scheduled visit dreading the pain to come. That was it - I canceled the appointment and found a better PT. DON'T GO HERE - YOU WILL REGRET IT! read more

I was referred to Vargo Physical Therapy from my orthopedic doctor after I fell and broke my arm. I went faithfully to my appointments and did the physical therapy exercises recommended to me at home every day. Ryan was my primary therapist as well as Jenna. The front desk staff is courteous and all of the physical therapy aids work together as a team to help serve the patient. The environment is uplifting and fun. I never missed a day. It is because of the careful and calculated work that the therapists do and the support staff that I was able to fully heal. I would recommend Vargo Therapy to anyone who would like to fully heal from their injury. I have 100% range of motion and strength because the therapists pushed me to my potential. My daughter received PT at the Porter Ranch location just under a year ago for her neck. Neither of us had ever needed PT so we didn't know what to expect. I wasn't a huge fan for the 3 months we went there. Super unremarkable, but she completed it and we moved on. Since then, we have both needed PT. She for her ankle and I for my back. We receive treatment at 2 different PT businesses which I won't name here. The point of this is to say that I have plenty to compare this place to now. The truth is that the entire staff (we worked with 5 of them) lacks knowledge and understanding in their field. It is clear this is just a job for them. No genuine care for the patient they are treating. In fact, my daughter would be told what exercises to do and then would get left to do them herself. She was 7! I would actually have to tell her to engage her core, etc. Clearly a job for the physical therapist! At my PT sessions, I get direction/feedback and staff stays with me to ensure my proper form and alignment. Something my daughter never received from her PT. That is their function and the reason we are there, right? To rehab and relearn the correct posture and muscle engagement of every move so we can heal properly and prevent injury! Honestly, I'm surprised Vargo has a decent rating. They did very little to help my daughter and I would never recommend this place to anyone EVER. Their knowledge is basic at best and I see a huge risk of re-injury if not properly supervised and engaged with the patient. There's one last thing. I think the guy's name is Eric. At one of the sessions, he made a joke at my daughter's expense with another patient and told my daughter that Santa Claus wasn't real!!! I gave him the death stare and told my daughter he didn't know what he was talking about. He realized his fumble and tried to fix it, but the damage had been done. Completely out of touch. Total douche. I hope he sees this because he'll know exactly who I am when he does. P. S. Worst PT experience I've ever had. I've been in and out of PT for the past few years for various sports injuries and I gotta say this place was so bad it would have been funny if I wasn't in so much pain. When I first walked in, I was not greeted by reception. She was there but was on her headset filing papers and not paying attention. I probably waited 5 minutes until 2 more people walked in and just put their names on a list on a different counter. I put my name on the list and still no acknowledgement from the receptionist. The set up is one open room with about 10 treatment beds. There's only 2-3 therapists working there. So already, it seemed sub par. It's very awkward to be treated in front of so many people while you are weak and in pain. It's also uncomfortable and distracting to see and hear other people groaning in pain while your trying to be treated. Now the actual treatment is the worst part. I got a different therapist each time I went. The therapist would walk over to me and give an instruction for an exercise and then leave to work on someone else. They didn't even touch me or stay to count my reps or make sure I had the right form. I was so miserable I left in the middle of my second session. I refuse to be treated like a number and to risk further injury by such poor care. I could literally watch videos on YouTube on how to stretch for my back injury and that would be the equivalent of the attention I got at Vargo therapy. I used to go to a PT in Monrovia. He had a private room and worked on me and only me for an hour or more each session. We had total privacy and even though it's an hour drive I now realize that it is worth it to heal and get back to training. read more

I have tried to like this place. I really tried... However, last two times I have left my appointment in more pain than I initially came in with, and in a different spot which originally hurt. I have never cried after a PT appointment, and I have had back/neck issues since 2012. The very last time was the last drop in my cup full of frustration and pain. When I came in, they asked where my pain was located. I stated, 'more on the RIGHT,' but clearly my entire neck has been traumatized. The young man did the ultrasound and loosening of my muscles only on my right side, which concerned me, but I figured, he is the professional... so I left it alone. Then the exercises began. As I started to stretch my neck I began to feel excruciating pain on my LEFT side... pinching, sharp pain which traveled down to my shoulder blades. I made it known and was told to continue with less resistance. Now I can't move my neck. I let it known. The lady therapist (don't remember her name) pulls on my neck and gives me ice. I sit in a ton of pain. I did try to assert to her that perhaps my Left side needs to be stretched a bit, but she became defensive stating it had nothing to do with that... provided no explanation for my new pain. I do have to say that the receptionist that sits on the right side when you walk in, is the very best. I don't know her name but she has been so attentive my last two times. The appointment before my last one led to tears steaming down my cheeks and she brought me water!! I adore her. But is it enough to go back? NO! So back to my story... as I am about to pay my diligent copay, the wonderful receptionist asks me if I am ok, so I tell her what happened. Her kindness warmed my heart, as I watched her walk over to the mean therapist lady asking her if they can stretch my left side since it was never done, to alleviate my pain... her response was 'no'... and she brought me a print out of neck exercises to do at home on recycled paper. I feel this place handled my situation in an unprofessional manner. I don't think they performed due diligence, abided by 'do no harm' rule or acted according to the Hippocratic Oath, demonstrating less than ideal conduct of so called medical professionals in this organization. Needless to say, my primary physician was notified of the detailed account of the unprofessional and careless conduct by the therapists there. Be mindful and be careful! read more

I've been to a few physical therapists in my lifespan and have to say, the treatment and service we received today was superior by far. My daughter was seen for recovery from a broken foot and the detailed explanation of what the injury caused and how the PT would help was superior. The exercises were appropriate and not too difficult or painful for her. We look forward to coming twice a week until she regains her strength again in her muscles. This my first experience with physical therapy. It has been a very good experience. The therapists and aides are all very kind, helpful, efficient, and empathetic. If I need help with an exercise they are there right away. When I come in they all know who I am. The two ladies out front, receptionists, are always pleasant and make you welcome every time I come in. They are exceptionally efficient with the billing and scheduling. I have been coming for a few months and they know exactly when to schedule my sessions with out me having to tell them. One time I mistakenly came in 2 hours early but they still fit me in. The therapists and staff at Vargo have continued their excellent treatment even in this Covid era. There are many sanitary safeguards -- from temperate checks to distancing, hand washing and cleaning. The quality of the PT is very, very good. They even have an app tailored for each patient that shows the correct exercises that we do at home between PT sessions. This is very helpful. The PT treatments are very thorough and the therapists take the time to be sure they are done right so that the correct muscles are impacted. I have been going to Vargo from February-June of 2016 for rehab after a hip surgery I had. As a professional athlete for the last 10 years, the most important thing for me is to have a conducive atmosphere to properly recover, as well as sufficient equipment. They have plenty of training tables and have some high quality stim and rehab equipment. I have seen hundreds of training rooms from my job and this place has what you need. My only complaint would be the quality of the weight lifting equipment, but that's what the gym is for. There is a pretty good amount of space in there to get your work done. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and extremely easy to get along with; it's always a light-hearted atmosphere at Vargo. One thing to keep in mind when you're going to PT is that you have to do the work. You can't just go there, get a massage and magically be healed; you get in what you put out. read more

Where do I begin. This place is by far the worst establishment I have ever been to in my life. First of all, they run it like a farmhouse. They pack in 30 patients in a big room and have zombie staff running around lost in translation trying to attend to everyone, but not even scratching the surface. All they do is joke around and forgot about you. Myself and others sit there in confusion as they order Poke bowls for lunch and yell across the room at one another like us as patients don't have places to be and things to do. I waited a good 5-7 minutes before and after each exercise before someone would come over to assist me in moving on to the next exercise or turning off my timer and unhooking me from their equipment! But one of the techs said he can't wait to get out of this bs job, because that's house everyone see's it! They care more about frivolous things relating nothing to getting you better! When I came here I had to do TWO separate evaluations for each body part, which I have never had to do before. But I complied. I scheduled it with the secretary aka office manager who put me at 7am on Monday when I asked for 8am! When I noticed this typo the day of running out to my 8am appointment stating 7am on my appointment card I called immediately to speak to someone to clarify and rectify the situation. One staff said no you're at 7 and must've been a mistake but come in and we will see you (not like they don't overbook anyways!). Then I hear someone shout out and out me on hold. The another staff member comes on and states that he can't see me until Thursday! I was like look I am in a lot of pain I can't wait now two weeks for treatment! I want to speak to the office manager. He said she would be in, in about 15 minutes and will have her call me. No call. I call and she answer nonchalantly and I said weren't you supposed to call me and you mis-scheduled me. She of course denied it and I requested to have this escalated to her director and to get back to me. She calls me 3 hours later saying instead of Friday she can have me come in on Thursday and they can squeeze me in! What?! I already was offered Thursday! She is clearly not the sharpest tool in the box and then I said just have the director get on the line. She said he is with patients (no he is not) but I leave a message. Hours pass and I call again, same thing and leave another message. Now it's the end of the day and no call. So you already know I was going to talk to this director Guy the next day. I go on and ask for him and as I am leaning on hot packs this older man comes over rolling his eyes with his lips curled standing over me, pronouncing my name wrong. When I tell him what occurred he said no that's not what happened you're a liar and I believe my secretary. Yelling and hollering at me in a belligerent disrespectful tone. I said to him how dare you speak to me this way. Then he tells me you will not tell me how to act and how to run my business and accused me of changing my appointment because I wanted to come in when I wanted to come in! Wow!!!!! More eye rolling. In all my years I have never been verbally abused by anyone!!!! Then he tells me I can go elsewhere that he doesn't want my money and proceeds to man handle me and take "his" hot pads off of me! He then says I'm the "owner" and I can get "my" pads back. Wow, let me tell you owner and director, you lil farmhouse of a wannabe physical therapy company should be shut down. I hope the owner of the chain you are franchising from sees this and your place gets shut down! And how dare you try to go off on me, slander my character in front of a room on 30 people, ever after I requested to go to an office. But you wanted to put on a show. How about this show, to the whole world to know what a horrible owner and franchise you are running and you deserve to me shut down. You do not treat a woman in that manner ever! Funny how some of these reviews people right sound more like an advertisement. You'd think they got paid to address all of my concerns on their review. Can't say I would recommend this place to any of my friends. To start off, the parking situation is horrible. The place is located in a shopping center where only 2 parking spaces are reserved for Vargo and you can not park in any other open spaces because each space is reserved for a specific business. Second, i did not feel welcomed. The receptionist is not friendly at all. I was never greeted upon entering. Also don't expect her to even acknowledge that you're there standing in front of her desk waiting for a few minutes. Lastly if you ask her a question don't expect an answer immediately. I thought I was talking to myself! Don't understand how people can have no manners. Don't know about other people but when somebody is standing in front of my desk I acknowledge them immediately even if i'm busy. I don't expect people to drop what they're doing but even a smile, or an "I'll be right with you" would be nice. My advice, if you hate your job then find something else! Just saying.... read more

I chose Vargo Physical Therapy in Northridge since it is close to my home and, with a background in health care, believed that I could contribute to making this a positive experience. All of the staff I encountered were warm and caring and seemed to take a genuine interest in my therapy. From my initial assessment by Dave to the more hands-on work of Jenna to the assistance of the various other staff (Nick comes to mind as particularly helpful), everyone took pains to make sure I had what I needed. While it is true that clients are allowed to work independently (based on their ability to do so), I never felt that I was ignored. On multiple occasions, someone would observe me doing something in a less than optimal way and provide guidance in doing it correctly. It would be nice if you were assigned a specific person who focused on you (rather than multiple staff helping multiple people), I don't feel that this hindered by therapy (or that of others) and it is Vargo's model and it seems to work well. The facility is bright and well maintained with staff clearly stressing a safe and clean (continually wiping down surfaces) environment. I was there during an extreme heat wave and the facility is kept at a very comfortable temperature. My only complaint is that parking is definitely a problem. There are multiple businesses in the strip mall and each one has a limited number of designated spaces. While the ones identified for Vargo were, during some of my appointments, available, they were tiny and would not accommodate my car (which is a smaller SUV). There are some "open" spaces (that are of a decent size) but they were not always available -- necessitating parking on the street (which was not a problem for me but could be for someone with more limited mobility. Should I require therapy at some point in the future, I would not hesitate to return to Vargo in Northridge. read more

Did not like this place. I really tried not to judge it too quickly so I gave it a chance and did go for about a month. The front reception lady is rude. She never greeted me or other patients and she seemed as if she was miserable ALL the time. I would stand there politely waiting for her attention and she would sit there and twiddle her thumbs as if I was invisible. How can a company hire someone to be the first point of contact and be rude. This is a place where people who are injured are supposed to go so that they can one day be back functioning normally. The last thing someone in pain wants to deal with is someone with an attitude. Also, PTs were very condescending. They treated me as if my injury didn't matter. I would ask there advice on certain things and they would just brush it off. I also never received a treatment plan, exercises to do at home, or a resistance band until I started to notice that some people did have them. So I decided to ask for a treatment plan and at home exercises. I felt that this place was prejudice (which I really hate to say) I do not recommend this place and will definitely not be back. Parking is horrible. The only thing good I can say is that the student workers from CSUN are very nice and are willing to help other than that for a lack of better words this place sucks. read more

I came here on the advice of my ortho doctor. The people here are very nice & will work you out to get you feeling better. It is hard, but you will get the results. It just takes time. I absolutely LOVE this place! Vargo PT in itself is awesome, but this particular facility took exceptional care of me when I came in 2 years ago for a work comp related injury to my right knee. I was really impressed with how they handled the claim through my employer, no hassle and they had everything ready to go the first day I was scheduled for my appointment. Before they did anything, the physical therapist sat down with me and reviewed my paperwork that I filled out regarding my injury, pain level, how it affected my acts of daily living. We both discussed how the initial treatments would start and progress from there once I started to get better with each treatment. It's a joint team plan with you and them. Their system with all their team members works like a well oiled machine. They're on top of everything and each team member that cares for you knows exactly what is going on, what the next step is and they're so professional. When the timer goes off for each treatment step, someone is there right away to turn off the timer and move on to the next step of your personalized treatment for that particular visit. They do not rush you. They're just that efficient. They know you need to get taken care of and go. They do not waste YOUR time. I love how nice and friendly they all are. They all seemed so happy to be working there and it shows. The reason for this HUGE review is because I injured myself again and I insisted on only going to Vargo PT off of Tampa Ave because of they way they helped my knee heal REALLY fast. I have not had any problems since with that knee, but this time it's for my lower back. I was thrilled to find out that I was able to go back there again for new treatment and my first session was as awesome as the first time I ever went there 2 years ago. I work in the medical field and I'm very particular about medical treatment. They are phenomenal and I'm blessed to be able to go to them to help me heal again. If you're assigned to get PT, ask if this place is covered under your insurance and if it's not too out of the way for you to travel to get there, DEFINITELY ask for this center. read more

A lifetime of motorcycles and martial arts has made me intimately familiar with physical therapy. Most of the treatments I have received elsewhere have seemed superfluous. Vargo, however, is one of the best places I have been to and it is entirely because of the staff. I credit them with helping me to speed up the recovery of my injury (patellar fracture and torn patellar tendon). One thing to keep in mind. PT is not there to kiss your boo boo and make it all better. It is there to assist you in taking responsibility for your own recovery. Communication between you and your therapist is key. And I have found no one better than Eric at Vargo. I learned a great deal not just about my injury, but the way the body heals from Eric. During recovery you need to accurately describe what is going on with your injury. You also need to do exercises at Vargo and at home on your own. You may need to push a little when you may be uncomfortable doing so and conversely you may need to reign in your desire to get back to running, swimming, or whatever. The PT staff is there to guide you and their input is only as good as the information you share with them and the homework you do on your own. Again, the Vargo staff is among the best I've worked with. They work as a coordinated team, with each staff member checking on your progress during your visit. I also laughed a lot with the staff while I was there which is a nice respite on the days you're frustrated with your progress. If you are one of those high falootin' types, you may not enjoy it there. It is an open room where everyone receives treatment at the same time - not unusual in my experience. This allows the staff to monitor everyone, but there is no privacy, though curtains can be drawn when needed. While they have only 2 dedicated parking spots, I got in them 50% of the time. My kid went to a tutor in the same mini mall and it's just crowded in there. But I could always find a space in the same lot around the corner and hoof it for 30 yards. So if you're looking for privacy and valet parking, you won't like it here. If you want dedicated professionals that will help you on the road to recovery, there's none better. read more

My daughter had surgery to reconstruct her ACL and we started Physical Therapy with Vargo. I am super pleased with the way they treat my daughter every time she goes in for Therapy. I specially recommend ERICK, he is the most amazing and knowledgeable therapist you will ever find. Not only is he knowledgeable but also very nice and funny. I suffered from a PCL injury and I wasn't sure what it was exactly or how I would recover from it. However, after going here to cure my injury and get stronger from it, I have nothing but gratefulness from the staff here. They aren't there to hold youre hand and feel sorry for you. They guide you and it's up to you to find inner motivation and get through the pain to get better. Eric has been nothing hit amazing and straight forward with me. Andy has been great too. His a pleasure to talk to and helps me get my forms correctly. Steph has also been very nice from the beginning and always been attentive on how I'm doing and always keep an eye for my posture and so forth. Mike and Angie were also very nice and helpful. Truly I hate being negative, but my son has gone to Vargo in PT for several injuries, and it took me finding an amazing PT place to realize what he was getting at Vargo was truly non existent. When I saw what they were billing insurance I was floored. He would exercise by himself the entire visit, and they would ice him....again by himself. Nothing else was ever done and when he reinjured the same area and we went somewhere else......the difference was night and day. He has never felt better and the care he is receiving is truly beyond compare. My mother n law also had a similar experience so she visited another Vargo location, which she said is much better. read more

I would of given the Tampa location five stars if it weren't for there assistant Mariah who is very careless and super forgetful in her tasks. She gave a hot pack without a towel and it really burned my hands. When i came for another body part injury she gave a not welcoming attitude look as always like "DO I HAVE TO TREAT YOU" and did not want to treat me for my injury even when I had authorization from my insurance she was skeptical and asked the the girl who handles authorizations again in font of me when Serene who handles authorizations had cleared with me over the phone that I have 3 more visits. She loves to yell and act like a "dumb blonde" even though she is not a blonde.. She is very careless and rude to be in the medical field. She cut my massage shorter than other assistants. Eric is the best physical therapy doctor out there better than Ellie who looks like she is about to fall on her face from being over worked and never smiles when she sees a patient. read more

Vargo Physical Therapy has been a life changer for me. When I was 16 years old, I was injured playing soccer. The highlight of my days during my injury was going to Vargo. Since day one, 6 years ago, I felt like a family member. Getting to know each staff member and allowing them to get to know me made such a big difference in my treatment. The staff members go out of their way to get to know you, even after your treatment is over. I went to visit a few times after my treatment ended and they still remembered me and cared about how I had progressed. I felt so comfortable there and I learned so much that it made me want to study physical therapy in college, which I did.
