I was in town picking my son up from college when we met Ryan , some of his staff , and friends of his that were visiting ,at his shop. when we walked in they were heading out to go surfing , I asked when they would be back so I could rent some boards to go out with my son ,I told him about my cancer and surgeries and couldn't wait to surf with my son again (almost a year) Ryan put everything on hold, gave me one of his new boards (he even found me a brace to use on my leg),Ryans stoke was crazy infectious and we headed out.I was a little nervous my first time back out after my treatments and latest surgery and Ryan picked up on this and paddled over to get me relaxed and encourage my to go ,a second latter I was up, when I looked over, my son and Ryan caught the same wave and we hooted and holllard all the way .After abou an hour long session we went back up the beach to the vastocean tent where we had a heavy talk about how cancer has effected both are families, and the loss of his mom from cancer and all the info he has picked up along the way from researching and network of friends and shared this with me and my son, and put us on the right path to find this info for my family. We took some pics that day but they did not come out , but the memory of getting back out with my son and the stoke hanging out with Ryan and the guys from Vast Ocean surf shop is one that will always be remembered (like my youngest son likes to say) BEST DAY EVER!,Sense then I am cancer free and surfing with my kids every chance I get..We look forward to seeing Ryan and heading out with the guys from his shop this august. My 3 daughters, ages 11, 13, and 15, did a surfing lesson today with Ryan Ragan, owner of Vast Oceans Surf School. It far exceeded our expectations in all ways!!!! Ryan is a professional surfer who is knowledgeable and passionate about his sport and his enthusiasm is contagious! He was so friendly and outgoing and was a top notch instructor! He took the time to thoroughly instruct my girls on safety precautions and proper technique and practice these skills on the beach before heading out into the water. Then he took turns with each of them individually, helping them choose the 'right' wave and knowing when to start swimming into it and stand, ensuring their success after just a few tries!! He spent about 2.5 hours with us, though our lesson only obligated him to about 1-1.5 hours! I feel like our family not only had an amazing surfing experience, but made a good friend as well! What an experience! Truly the highlight to my family vacation. Ryan was not only informative, he was also personable as well as professional, kind, considerate, super great with children and adults, overall one of the best surf instructors my boys and I have met. We started out the first day at the beach with the boys getting private lessons with Ryan, they had such a great time that they asked if they could do it again... of course I was super impressed so it was a no brainer, we were absolutely coming back! Ryan had them up and surfing on their first time out. They even got me out on the board. We did go back the second day, and yes, we had yet another great experience but this time, I too took lessons. We brought our go pros and Ryan, while teaching us was able to catch some awesome videos for our family memories! My brother and I have been visiting my grandma for almost three weeks now, and I'd have to say that surfing has been the most thrilling thing we've done. Ryan is a very kind as well as charismatic guy, and in the first few minutes of meeting him it was blatant that he cares deeply about his clients. For the lesson, we started on the sand, where he taught us how to be safe in the water. Ryan then instructed us on "pop-ups", demonstrating how to get up on the board. When my brother and I got into the water, we could tell that practicing pop-ups before hand helped tremendously. As we've continued lessons there's been great improvement due to Ryan's sensational teaching. He's extremely supportive and encouraging, plus he continuously divides his attention between every student in order to help them all surf to the best of their ability. It's clear that Vast Oceans only wants their students to succeed! This was our second experience with Vast Ocean Surf and SUP. Our granddaughters first lesson with Ryan p app Regan was three years ago. We do not live here and that is why it took us so long to get back but it was worth the wait. Our first experience with him was wonderful and he has only gotten better with a time. From the moment you first make the reservation with him, he is working to make sure you have the best experience possible. He selects a board that is size and weight appropriate, he selects the best possible time for your lesson based on the tides, the wind, and the weather. He could not have calculated this better. It was perfect! Ryan is a professional surfer, who truly loves sharing his talent and experience. He wants his students to be happy and will do whatever it takes to make sure that happens. My daughter , her boyfriend, his 10 year old son and my 23 year old son had surf lessons today. Lorna was their teacher and did such an awesome job. My son has autism and is mildly mentally handicapped and she had such patience with him. He actually stood on the board several times on a wave and was thrilled. His balance is really bad but with her patience he actually caught a wave a few times. The others were equally happy with their surfing experience and Ryan was also very easy to work with and very professional to deal with in setting up the session. Its been the best thing we have done during our vacation and I would highly recommend Ryan and his business. I had an amazing experience with Ryan. I have tried surfing on and off since I was 16 and have walked away defeated every time, but I have always loved being in the ocean. Going into the experience I tried to keep my expectations low because I have not been able to stand ever. Ryan blew those out of the water. He has so much energy and is dedicated to get you up on that board. I went from not getting up at all to get up about 6 times. I had the best time. It was an AMAZING experience. We had an amazing day watching our son learn to surf. The entire process went very smooth. When I called Ryan got us an appointment scheduled that very day. Shortly after we were meeting up with Glenn, the surf instructor. He took my son out to the ocean after some on land instructions and safety rules. In no time my son was standing and surfing on the board. My husband and I had a great time just watching our son learn how to surf. It was a day we will always remember. Ryan was awesome, we went out for 1.5 hours and I was able to get up 6 times! He had everything planned from the right board, right spot, and a photographer that captured all of the great moments. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient. I previously had a lesson with a different instructor and was not able to get up and felt very discouraged about surfing, but after surfing with Ryan I can't wait to go again! We had a great experience! I took my 2 teenage girls surfing for the first time. We had a great introduction lesson on the beach so we would know what we were doing once we got in the water. Ryan and his partner were very positive, enthusiastic and patient. They gave us extra time teaching and kept helping us until we were all able to surf!!! My family found out about Vast Oceans Surf from Groupon. On our family vacation from Detroit to Daytona Beach, we decided to give surf lessons a try. We were not disappointed! Ryan made sure we all felt comfortable on the boards and in the water, went over surfboard safety and made sure that all of us (my 8 year old son included) had some great rides into shore. I've been trying to learn to surf for the past year+ with the help of my husband and friends. Needless to say I picked up some bad habbits and was getting frustrated with lack of progress. Never been surfing before and these guys hooked me up, made me feel confident on the board before taking it to the waves.. my instructor helped me get out to the waves on the board since I was a beginner on paddling out, and encouraged me as I kept trying to surf. After I stood up a few times we went out to some bigger waves and continued to challenge me just enough. At the end of the day I felt great, and accomplished. My son Wade had a lesson this past weekend with Ryan and absolutely LOVED it! Ryan is great teacher with an awesome personality and made it a really fun experience for my son to try out surfing for the first time! I truly enjoyed my time on the water with Ryan. His seemingly endless expertise shinned brightly as he showed me the ropes.
