Had a pleasant experience with Vaughn's. Was looking all around the US for months for an oddly specific example of the Volkswagen Beetle, called the "GSR." I was buying out of state, but they made the process quite straight forwards and played no silly dealer games, like the ones I've seen here in Florida. No haggling I was told, which was a letdown, but no dealer add-ons or excessive doc fees, so it was okay with me. Shipping was prompt and professional, and they were always there to answer my questions. The reason I don't give a 5 star is because they claimed to not receive my wire--even though they did was which attributed to a "mix-up"--which delayed the process a few days. And the car was shipped with a 1/4 tank of gas. No biggie, but the courtesy would have been appreciated. I purchased a used truck from this dealer ship. About 5 days after owning the vehicle the check engine light came on. I contacted the dealership and after a few email exchanges I got the vehicle in and they waved the fee on the diagnostic. The issue was something that was fixed before they sold me the vehicle. The diagnostic said it was the same issue as when the vehicle came in and was told it was fixed and do have the work order to prove it was fixed by Vaughn before being re sold as a used vehicle to me. Like I said the engine light cane on for me and Vaughn fixed the issue at no charge to me, but less then 2 days later the engine light came on again!!!! I guess I will have to pay for it to be fixed right this time by my guy who has never screwed me over like this. Had the vehicle less then 2 months. 1 star is to many in my opinion. I have had this truck for 7 months now and it has been issue after issue. The EVAP sensor which has been replaced before I bought the vehicle and after I purchased the vehicle 2x's has failed again. Now the Computer is bad. When I did this latest issue it will be almost $2000 that I have put into this truck. I will never buy anything from Vaughn's again and when people ask where I purchased this truck I tell them to go elsewhere. Drove round trip six hours to see a Toyota Tundra, quoted one price for my trade in. Upon arrival discovered the truck didn't have nearly the features advertised and then trade-in price cut in half. Pointed out the issues with their false advertisement of the vehicle, simple things like Apple Car Play, but they defended themselves that it wasn't there doing. I called a week later to "encourage" them to advertise the right truck, ignored. Now, four weeks later, they reach out offering the same truck with the same false advertisement. Did zero to reimburse me for time/effort to come see a falsely advertised vehicle. Won't ever go to VAUGHN again. read more

I contacted them about a 2020 Tahoe on their website at approximately 3pm. Taylor responded at 3:30 with "This is Taylor with Vaughn Automotive. I see you have inquired about the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe! This vehicle is currently available.", I thought this was about to be a great experience but I was wrong. She was slow to respond and kept skirting the questions I asked, but we eventually got to a place where I just called and asked for a buyers order so I could get a cashiers check from my bank. She let me know that she would have to have a salesperson contact me, wait....what?? Why have you been wasting my time if you cant help me? I eventually got a call from the salesperson at around 4:50 who asked me some basic questions to put the buyers order together all the while I'm rushing to get to the bank to get a cashiers check before my bank closes at 5. I explain to her that I am grabbing a check for the $48,000 and I live 2.5 hours away and they close at 7, Could they have someone wait 30 minutes until I arrive. As I am having the check cut for their asking price, she informs me that they can not wait for me to get there and they could hold the car for another day for me to come up there to pick it up. I tell them to go ahead and hold the car and I will call her back with a good day for me to pick it up. I no further get into my car from the bank parking lot she calls me back to let me know that the vehicle was SOLD 2 FREAKING DAYS AGO! Why in the hell did you idiots not figure this out before hand? Then to have the audacity to ask if there was another vehicle they may have available. This Dealership does not care about their customers or potential customers. I was a finance manager for a Dealership and if I had customers bringing a check and it was after closing guess what I did, that's right I waited for them to ensure that they got what they wanted and had a great buying experience. you know what else, we did not try to sell cars we did not have! If you have a chance to purchase from these people just save yourself the time and trouble and go to a reputable place because this is not that place! read more

The service here is an absolute joke. I called multiple times and did not received a call back. They have had our vehicle for several weeks now and I have yet to speak with a manager. I bought a 55k convertible Camaro a couple years ago. When I bought the car I asked about the service department and Tina told me they were great. Well time came for my first oil change. What a disaster. I dropped car off early on a Saturday morning and four hours later my car had not yet been touched. I get a call saying they were booked full and that I would have to bring car back. Tried again and some very angry woman (Mandy) basically told me I need to work with them. Excuse me Whos the customer??? Than early this summer I pull up around 10am on Saturday there is nobody in line for an oil change and they close at 2pm. Someone comes running out saying they are not taking anymore oil changes for the day and again was told that I should work with them on when this work gets done. I ended up taking the car to Walmart and was in and out in 30 min. When i drove back by the oil change bay was still open sign up saying quick oil change. So this pissed me off and I call Tina the person I bought the car from. She didn't understand why I was turned away at 10am that she said she wasn't aware of anyone in line for an oil change. So fast forward to now. I took the car in last week to get something looked at on the convertible and while i was there i got the oil changed. I got quote to fix the convertible and told them to order parts and call me when they come in and we can schedule a service appointment. A few day went by and I get a message from them saying they got a filter in that they didn't change when I had the oil change. Nothing on the part for the convertible. So today I called. I got Ruth who was extremely rude and short with me. I wanted to know why the part that I asked for wasn't ordered and the filter that I didn't ask for was. She told me than they were to busy at the moment to book me an appointment. Yes you read that correctly. She said they were to busy to schedule me an appointment. Approx an hour later I got a call back from here and she said they got he part ordered and that it would be here Wednesday and I should bring the car in on Thursday. I explained to her that I work that I have to schedule time off and I'm off the 20-22nd so let make the appointment for than. She says I have found an open time at 10am on Dec 20th if that doesn't "offend you" Yes she said that. The problem with this dealer is their service department absolutely sucks i don't think you could get any worse. Than when you talk to Chad the owners son he yells at you and hangs up. I walked in to this dearler's show room, and walked around for 10 minutes without anyone approaching me. I then spoke to their "door delight" about sequestering a salesman. I was then greeted by one. Fast forward ahead, I settled on a car, and proceeded with jumping through the finance hoops to purchase. As the [what I assume to be] finance guy is checking out my credit history, he had an audience of salesmen, and shop grunts, munching snacks, as they're gawking at my naked finacial life, on the screen. They had no business being there, and I found it to be extremely unprofessional. It was like they were watching a television program. read more

My husband and I bought an Equinox at Vaughn Automotive in June 2015. Our salesman's name was Jason. When it came time to sign the paperwork, we told them we would be there around 4. We showed up about 5-10mins after 4 and the finance lady (unsure of her name) had already brought someone else in to get their paperwork done. Jason assured us it would only be 15 mins or so. 1 HOUR AND 45 MINS LATER goes by, I had to leave to get our daughter to swim lessons, she comes out and says to my husband "sorry for the wait, I'm going to help this other customer quick, it's a cash sale so it won't take long". The look on my husbands face must have been enough for her to change her mind, because it wasn't long after that, that he got iN. IT TOOK 10 MINS to do the paperwork! If I hadn't left and left him with no ride we wouldn't have bought the car, that wait was ridiculous. My other concern was not long after owning the car I was noticing something off, it didn't start well. We attempted to call Jason 5-6 times. He answered only one of the those calls and he said he would talk to the service dept and get back to us. Never heard anything. I ended up taking the car to our local chevy dealer (we live 1 1/2 hours from Ottumwa) and come to find out the timing chain needed replaced and a fuel pump (which was causing fuel to get into the oil). It was under warranty thankfully, but Jason made no attempt to help us out what so ever. My biggest pet peeve is people not returning my call on a timely matter or at all, and because of that and the extremely long wait to even take the car home we will not do business there again. read more

GM should remove all affiliation with this dealership. I should of known from the first time I walked in the showroom and no one asked me if I needed anything. I finally walked into a cubicle and asked if I could get a brochure. The person said they no longer have brochures and I could get the information on line. Then they walked away. The prices are good, then you get there and start the loan process. From the very first visit they continue to ask for you to use their lenders. When asked for the interest rate, they never gave an interest rate just "it could be 5% to 8%". This was after knowing the credit score. They do not return calls. Could not get the sale price quote in a timely manner. Could not take a test drive because they would have to move too many cars to get the car you want to test drive out. There was a deadline on some discounts that was missed due to price quote delays and the salesman having the day off. Even so, I continued to try to work with Vaughn (I know, I know - not wise on my part) and it was absolutely the worst car buying experience I've ever had. I've owned more than 20 cars in my lifetime, so the experience of purchasing a vehicle is not new to me. What was new to me, was realizing that this Dealer does not make any effort to accommodate buyers or make a sale. The worst part was because I did not use any of their lenders, they would not release the vehicle until they received the funds. WHAT?? Yes, even though my nationally known bank's " letter of credit ", a legal document, guaranteed the loan amount. Vaughn was insistent that they would not release the car until they received actual payment. They do not require having actual payment from their lenders before they release the car. I asked them if their lender could match my banks interest rate and they said no. Most banks, of course, will not release funds without the proper paperwork to include being put as lien holder on a title. For several weeks, my bank went out of their way to develop some type of compromise, but Vaughn was insistent on having the funds first or using one of their lenders. I offered a HUGH downpayment of 30% of the price. After weeks of trying to find a compromise, Vaughn stated that they would not accept my bank's letter of credit. WHAT? Vaughn then finally stated the only way to purchase the vehicle was to use one of their lenders. This is no way to do business. So in the end, "Vaughn Automotive" WILL NEVER get business from me again or whoever I know. Good luck to whoever goes and deals with them. Using this bullying tactic on using their lenders is unacceptable. This is what gives car salesman such a bad name and now I can see why. Remove the Vaughn car sticker and do not advertise for this dealership. We are also wanting to purchase a new truck in the coming year. I wouldn't return to this place for a free, fully loaded truck. Don't waste your time driving to this dealership, it's worth paying more money at another place. Do yourself a favor and keep looking. If you'd like to have a real, customer-oriented buying experience, then stay away from this place! Find another place to spend your money. read more

We have been a Cadillac family for decades and currently have two Caddy's in our garage not including the new one we just purchased. It appears that Vaughn Automotive Cadillac in Iowa has a significant amount of incompetent or lazy staff, with E-mails not returned by various staff, telephone calls not returned and an arrogant and lazy finance person. The only bright spot was a salesman, Jacob, who did a good job representing the dealership. We purchased and immediately wired 65K for a new Cadillac XT6 to Vaughn Automotive in Iowa and they held our monies hostage literally due to their incompetence for days. Vaughn staff sent paperwork to us, the customer, for a salvage title in the wrong State for a brand new Cadillac. Sweet! Financial data was wrong and their staffer was not interested in determining why when we informed them. He literally refused to figure out what was wrong. Customer finally took a portion of the money back and did title, tags, registration and paid taxes ourselves in our State. Dealer then inappropriately called our auto carrier in New York without our knowledge and canceled the pick up because they did not have their paperwork in order - even though they were fully paid and we had a new title in our State which was shocking. We paid the auto carrier and they placed us in default of our contact with the carrier. In the end, our financial numbers were correct and the dealership wrong as we informed them. As customers hundreds of miles away, we dealt by E-mail and documented all of the above, which is not all of the problems we had with Vaughn Automotive. We plan to contact Cadillac corporate. Vaughn has other on-line ratings similar to what we are submitting - and you had better believe it is was a disappointing and arrogant experience. We wish we had never heard of Vaughn Automotive in Iowa. I see that a Mr. VanNess at Vaughn is responding to review comments on this site - one of the people we wrote to who did nothing. I found Vaughn to be shifty and unreliable. I would not recommend this dealership. They misdiagnosed my car problem and after I spent $500 on repairs I didn't need-- they refused to take responsibility and will not reimburse me for the un-needed repairs. I spoke to the GM Hotline and the General Manager of Vaughn and all I got was excuses. Worst service I've ever had. read more

Warning Car salesman-"James L." This dealership is obviously OK with their data, trust, ethical practices to be incorrect and disrespecting the customer/consumer & that it is the customer/consumer to be at fault. The most worst & horrible customer service I've ever seen and dealt with. I would NEVER recommend anyone to come buy or even think about buying a vehicle from this place unless you are OK with being lied to, mislead and then being accused of it being your fault. My husband and i were highly interested in a truck that Vaughn Automotive had for sale on their website so we called the next morning and were reassured by "James" that the truck was on the lot and was indeed for sale, and that we could put a $500 deposit on the truck to hold it until we could get there on Saturday. We did not put a deposit down(thank god) bc we knew we wouldn't get that money back. Then the next day "James" emailed stating that truck was sold the previous morning (this is the same morning we called and same morning that he told us it was there and was available) in his email it stated that a buyer had came the night before we called and took the truck home! So if we had put $500 down on this truck to hold it, when we had came on Saturday first it wasn't going to be there and second they were just going to help us find another truck that would suit us. I'm sorry but DON'T assume that you would have another truck that would work for us. That is for us to decide not a dealership or a salesman. What horrible customer service to not physically go outside and use your eyes and check your inventory, when you knew a gentlemen had already picked up the truck to take home the night before we even called. Then turn this situation around and blame the customer(ME) for it being our fault for talking numbers over the phone. I understand you don't need any numbers from me when I'm already authorized from my bank to pay what a want in whatever amount i choose. I was going to the dealership on Saturday with check IN HAND to pay for this truck IN FULL, whether we chose to do a trade-in or not. So in the end, "Vaughn Automotive" WILL NEVER get business from me or whoever i know. Good luck to whoever goes and deals with them, but did i warn you. We were driving 2 hours plus tonight and were told the vehicles would be waiting for us when we got here. We texted to let them know our exact arrival time. To begin with, I have never heard of anyone in my life having a pleasant experience at Vaughn Automotive. Over the last year or two I was notified from GM that there were some recalls on my 2011 Buick Regal. I was a student in college until recently so I did not have a lot of time take my car to a reputable dealer to get this fixed. Silly me thought that since recalls are usually pretty simple, the people of Vaughns could handle it. I was out of the country and had a family member drive my car to work (in Ottumwa) since Vaughn offered to pick the car up and bring it back before they were to leave work. That day as they were driving home, they realized the cruise control was not working and upon further investigation, they found that the break lights did not work either. From another country, I began to email Vaughn about the issue. I told them I was in another country so I wouldn't be able to call. When the, what I assume was a robot that lacked the ability or desire to read my email finally replied, they said to call and make an appointment. After reiterating the fact that I could not call, I began to ask about the service appointment. The robot stated that I would have to pay the $100 for a diagnostics test and IF they found that it was something they did wrong then they would refund the money. They also stated that it was highly unlikely that they did anything wrong as they "did not even mess with the breaks or cruise control." After a few more emails I decided to wait until I was back in the United States to deal with this. Once I was back in the United States, I called in an attempt to speak with a human but was actually connected with what I a pretty sure was a member of what the Negan clan from The Walking Dead. They were adamant about it not being their fault. The "repairs" occurred in July and I followed up in August with the phone calls. I decided to move on for the time being as I began classes in a city that is about two and a half hours from Ottumwa. After I was settled, I called a dealership in my current city and was told that it would be hard to get my money back if it was proven that Vaughn had indeed done something wrong, and it would be best to go back to Vaughn if I wanted a smoother process of getting my refund on the diagnostics test. I thought I would rather Thelma & Louise my car than go back to Vaughn. After I graduated in December and moved to another city to begin my career, I decided that I would make an appointment at a dealership there and take all of my paperwork from Vaughn and see if they could figure it out. So in January, I had my car looked at and fixed (for $108) at this amazing dealership who explained to me, in simple terms, what had happened. Let's say there are 10 steps to completing the recalls. The mechanics at Vaughn did 1-8 and did not finish the part that was to recalibrate the break and checking to make sure they did everything on the list of things to do for the recall. read more

Vaughn provided pretty exceptional service. This was my 1st time ever purchasing a car, so I didn't really know what the process entailed. I found them through Car Gurus and inquired about a car via email. I was contacted by one of their employees shortly after... who then referred me to another employee so that they could better answer my questions. Tina was great and very efficient + helpful with her responses. She helped me get approved for affordable financing and offered to notify me if anyone was going to purchase the car before I was able to see it via text because I live 2 hours away from Ottumwa. The only frustrating part was having to deal with the paperwork and miscommunication with the paperwork. However, they offered to drive the car from Ottumwa to where I lived and filled it up with a full tank of gas before leaving. Overall, I thought it was a good experience and I'm glad I went through them for my 1st car! Thank you! read more

Here is my latest experience I would like to share with those thinking of buying from Vaughns.I want everyone to know that if you are currently looking to buy a car don't buy it from Vaughn Automotive in Ottumwa. They do not stand by the product they are selling you. They will not handle any parts that are damaged because of a failure on the car. Was told by their service person that a part on a 2015 Dodge Challenger was MOST Likely damaged when on the hauler that caused 4 tires to be completely ruined after 14000 miles. 2nd set was ruined 1 month after putting on car. Problem was you could not tell they were ruined as they were only worn on the very inside of the tire which unless you were specifically looking for wear there you would not see it. Had to run your hand across them to discover the wires were sticking out of them. My son was driving a car that could have easily blown a tire and caused an accident. Car had no issues when driving so there was no reason to think there was a problem. They warranteed the part that caused this and realigned the car but are not willing to cover the cost of the tires. CHAD informed me he didn't feel he owed us anything. When I told CHAD he was full of shit he proceeded in hanging up on me. Good luck if you still decide to buy a car from these people.
