I love the front staff of the animal hospital. They're always friendly. All the vet techs have been wonderful too. I loved our original vet up until the pandemic when we had a situation that felt very abrasive and rude, and I think about it often. We returned to this vet after the good experiences we had with our previous cat, Edwin five years ago. My cat was sick and not acting right. We called and told them EXACTLY what was happening with him and they told us to come in later that day. We brought him in and they did $1800 worth of tests. We were told they couldn't be sure what was "in his stomach" and we should return the next day for repeat imaging. We went back the next day and $500 and the repeat images later, they repeated that he had unknown material in his stomach and needed to be transferred to an emergency vet. We then took him to buzzards bay. Then we saw the reality of the situation. After 1500 of tests and medicine at the emergency vet there was NOTHING wrong with his stomach it was pancreatitis. Medicine and he would be fine. I thought my cat was going to DIE based on the feedback from Capeway and they took advantage of my vulnerable emotional state to basically rob me. We don't have a lot of money. As a teacher I used literally everything I had convinced my cat was deathly ill because of the "make a buck" mentality of this office. I feel robbed and taken advantage of. All set with this place, even though most of the staff seemed friendly clearly had no idea what they were doing. FORGOT TO MENTION: they never sent the imagining that I paid for to the emergency vet and never returned the calls of the vet so I had to pay for new X-rays. What a joke. Update: When they commented below I did reach out. They called after I emailed and tried to gaslight me into thinking I didn't understand the reports, insulted my intelligence, and Cindy was extremely rude to me. I sent evidence of his diagnosis from the other vet which they say they never saw that diagnosis written down in any reports and have not heard back since. Beware this practice is no longer locally owned and operated. According to their website they were bought in 2023 by VCA Animal Hospitals, aka Mars Inc (yes the candy company) I discovered this after a very upsetting and expensive experience with them. Short story: diagnosis of gastritis (I.e., diarrhea from something my dog ate) cost $1000 Long story: I brought my dog in with symptoms of gastritis after she ate a fatty piece of lamb. She had already been to urgent care, had started to improve, but then worsened. I suspected we hadn't successfully administered antibiotics so wanted another round in a different form. I asked for antibiotics, fluids, and maybe blood tests to confirm nothing else was going on. I expected an experienced assessment of her condition. Instead I was told they could feel a "mass" in her stomach that might be "cancerous" or an obstruction. I said she was feeling fine, not in pain, just had the lingering diarrhea and suggested maybe her stomach/bowels were just inflamed from over a week of diarrhea? When the tech came in with $800 estimate I pushed back and asked to speak with doctor again to understand. Couldn't they start with blood tests? No, the doctor said, it was an emergency and she needed X-rays and scans. She "felt a mass and it could be cancer". I said I felt like I had no choice (I assumed I could trust this person). Nothing came back on the X-ray scans. There was nothing there. Final bill was $1000. Later blood tests results revealed she was in excellent health. It's just gastritis. She is recovered now three days later on the antibiotic. I believe I was intentionally misled and now knowing this vet is owned by a conglomerate, I believe their staff is incentivized to sell services. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. Queue the defensive and insulting response from VCA Animal Hospital, aka Mars candy company, as I see they do on every negative review. They will undoubtedly mention that I "bombarded them with abusive texts". This is untrue. I responded to the phone number listed in THEIR AUTOMATED TEXT asking for feedback on Bellas visit with my accusation that they had scammed me. I expressed anger that they were recruiting our local young people into this deceptive practice (meaning the young tech vet who witnessed this) and stated they should be ashamed of themselves. In my opinion wendy should be fired and perhaps evaluated. At our last visit Dr. J. wanted to run thousands in tests and when we mentioned how unaffordable it was, the assistant threatened to call animal control and suggested we abandon our pet at a shelter if we were not going to spend the money. Corporate was notified and failed to respond. Our new vet has taken a lot of new patients from there for similar reasons. Use caution before taking your pet there. Do your research. read more

I won't get into to many details because there's to many to list at EVERY visit but I will say today the dog didn't come in bleeding or with a broken nail so she shouldn't be leaving that way after "routine" blood work. (another thing we didn't even come in for) I'm sorry but I just can't recommend a place that tries to tell me first (lie) that it happened before the visit or better yet that it was her fault because they "couldn't" restrain her when poking her with needles. She's been poked by these people for 12+ years... They literally lied to my face. 3 different times the story changed and I have audio to prove it (you have a camera in your rooms without my consent so right back at you) AND they also tried to charge us for the wipes and the medicine ointment that will go on her paw for the broken nail that wasn't their fault but was somehow her fault while she was getting blood work. That charge didn't happen and if they had pressed it my next call would have been FPD. Listen I have been bringing this dog into this place fore 4 years personally as a favor to her dog mom & because it was the dog moms favorite (she's not my pup just my best buddy) but since her dog mom passed this past year this place the last few visits is utterly useless, ridiculously expensive and I do not want others getting ripped off. I was going to leave it alone and try to relax until when I tried getting her out of the car at home she was petrified from the experience like NEVER before. I am with this dog hours a day and have brought her enough times here to know a difference. She is traumatized. 30 mins waiting for a "dr.", 10 min "checkup" that didn't address anything I asked about but definitely was told about the upsells such as teeth cleaning & rabies vax she doesn't need for 3 months but they can do now and then they say we'll do some blood work and urinalysis "shouldn't take long" - 30 mins later... she walks back in they tell me they had a hard time pulling blood so they tried her back and front legs but worked in front leg. They leave and I notice blood everywhere (i have pics) it's coming out of her paw so I'm thinking they tried drawing blood between her paws and that what they meant by "other back leg" no it was a bold face lie to cover up the nail that is literally missing and bleeding. Why was the leg that took the needle bandaged but not the the spot that you supposedly tried? Why because there was no other draw point. They did not restrain her, she ripped a nail out and they tried covering it up with a bogus "we had a hard drawing" and pin the blood on that. They tried rushing us out after the lie which NEVER happens because it's always another 15 mins to leave but I wasn't leaving until the vet cleaned it who did so with the whole "my shift is over buddy" attitude. I feel like I'm writing a book but folks please, please for the love of your animal do NOT bring your animal here at least not unless its the guy doctor. Not trying to sound sexist but he was her vet for 12 years and the last year it's now another (they do this when you dog gets old. hand off. proven) and she just doesn't cut it. To tell the truth he's not much better as he's always pushing pills like a human dr but at least he knows the dog. This girl 4th time still doesn't know the dogs name (it's on the paper!!!!). It's like seeing a med student when you have a arrow stuck in your chest and he checks your teeth for a needed cleaning. $260 for blood work, the Urinalysis never happened (they wanted me to bring a cup of pee back, wtf?) and a buttload of trauma and a missing nail. $260 that would have been $310 if I hadn't put my foot down on the ripped nail ointment. I'm not letting this go. To many vets, are ripping people off everywhere and if I can save 1 human or pet from this type of treatment I will make it my mission in life. vca Capeway is horrible compamy to deal with since they were taken over by vac. my pet had surgery it didn't heal right split open, when I noticed it after closing hours when I called the message said they close leave a message they didn't advise you what to do in an emergency. It was just horrible. Luckily, I have a friend in the business. I called her immediately. She advised me where to take my animal. I took him. They had to redo the surgery all over again, costing me more money and then when I called them up when they they opened after the weekend. I let them know how upset I was that they didn't advise their patients what to do in a case of emergency and he had to take him to an ER and had to have another surgery because this one didn't heal right. When I asked to speak to the manager, she talked to me rudely sent me my files and deleted my account from them so when I called to get something from them, they had no record of me leaving me without a vet. I've never dealt with such heartless people as this company so I will be looking for a new vet so now I don't even have a vet if should happen this is disgusting and appalling to treat a customer like this. I would never recommend VCA Capeway in Fairhaven to anybody if this is how they're going to treat people with animals. and this all transpired when I called to get records and they said they had no record of me ever being there. We love Dr. Oakam! She is so kind, gentle and knowledgeable. The place is super clean and they go out of their way to make cats comfortable. They even have a separate area in the hospital for the cats to lessen the stress. This is been our go to veterinarian for the last three / four years and we've been satisfied the staff is always been professional and helpful HOWEVER that being said the reason for my rating of the one is recently there has been a lot of changes and now I find they are constantly trying to up sell or requiring Extra and continual physicals and treatment before normal services can be given. If you go here expect to budget monthly , with the occasional $$$$$$ Our dog goes there monthly and has shots for her skin and her nails cut. We normally have a full physical every six months the last three times Ok not unreasonable, but I've been told we need to make an appointment for a physical to have her nails cut. She just had a physical in September in August I was sent home without her shot that prevents her from itching , I was told to make an appointment for that physical before she could get her shot. by that time she had damaged her skin from chewing and they offered me treatments that included steroids antibiotics , shampoo and a few other items for approximately four to $500 ticket currently I spend over $100 a month just on her normal care read more

I brought my dog here because I believed something was wrong with him. He had been throwing up pretty commonly for the past couple of days. Upon arrival the doctor did a checkup on him and said he found a mass on his abdomen and believed it was cancer. Doctor Jay should be ashamed of themselves telling a client their dog has cancer without even running any tests. This prompted me to bring him to ocean city emergency vet in rhodeisland for the best care possible. I'm leaving today to say there was no mass found in my dog and he just has ibs which is common in a lot of dogs. X rays were clean and only thing found was a a small heart murmur. Doctor Jay I hope you see this message because you really scared me yesterday diagnosing my dog with cancer without even doing tests. Shame on you extremely disappointed. My 14 yr old lab mix passed in June and this team was great! My regular vet was out of town and unfortunately,my girl was really sick. I called all over the city to find a vet who would see her and when my dad and I brought her everyone was great. We were in the midst of the pandemic and luckily,the team was very compassionate. They gave us time to say goodbye and were wonderful at getting her in and were very compassionate. From the receptionist I spoke to that morning,to the vet,to the woman who was on the phone as I gave my credit information and even when I went to get her ashes they were all wonderful in what was an extremely stressful situation. read more

I've used Capeway for the past 7 years for 2 different dogs. We see Dr. Gaudet who is wonderful - listens well, reassuring, very responsive. The techs have all been great as well. I am always able to get an appointment when I need it. I like that the Dr. himself calls with test results, etc. and answers all questions patiently. My family has been bringing their pets to Capeway Veterinary Hospital since the eighties. Dr. Gaudet saved my first cat's life from a parasite when another vet at a different practice couldn't properly diagnose him. That vet proposed exploratory surgery "since the cat was going to die anyway". Once we found Dr. Gaudet, we never went back. He is very knowledgeable, and he really cares about his patients. Capeway's practice has expanded over the years, and Dr. Gaudet has added new partners. My family has been happy with all of them, but they especially like Dr. Jayaram. We've been bringing our dogs to Capeway for the past 5 years, and we have never once had a bad experience or felt like our dogs weren't taken care of. When we adopted our springer she had a horrible skin allergy along with other medial issues and Capeway took great care of her, she is now healthy and thriving. Whenever we bring the dogs in for a sick visit, there is always a follow up call asking how they are doing. The techs and doctors are so friendly and knowledgeable, we definitely feel like our dogs are in good hands with Capeway. We also use the grooming service, Josh is wonderful and always listens to us. I was once a loyal CVH advocate. They've treated 2 of my pets for a total of 7 non-consecutive years. I really like Dr. Sherman and appreciated that he had my dog and cat's best interest at heart. Recently my family decided to add a 2nd dog to our family, a rescue from TN. After going through the application process with a wonderful rescue group, we were approved and ready to bring her home from her foster family. But something seemed amiss with our new girl. It was determined by the Veterinarian of the rescue group that she had Lupus. We were encouraged by that practice in Randolph (amazing Dr's there, but too far from us to travel regularly with her) that we talk to our local Vet and get a plan of action in place before bringing our new girl home. Ok, this is progress we thought. We were already committed to bringing this girl home and doing whatever we could to make life better for her. I called CVH and asked to speak with Dr. Sherman. I was told by the receptionist, he was not in that day, but she'd talk to Dr. Jayaram about canine lupus and what I should expect as far as treatment and care. Well the answer I got back nearly knocked me off my chair - "Save yourself the heartache and don't walk, run away from this dog" was exactly the words relayed to me from Dr. Jayaram. I was astonished. These people are supposed to be advocates for animals and this doctor told me to save myself the heartache?!?! I flat out told the receptionist that I was insulted and I'd be calling back to have our 2 current pet patients of CVH's records moved over to a different local animal hospital. I was so disheartened by their practice and by their philosophy towards my situation. My records with them will show that I've had a cat there treated for epilepsy and 8 years after her first seizure, she's still with us and doing fine. Why on earth would I run from a dog with lupus? I'm not some derelict customer of theirs either, I have paid every bill in full at the time of billing and have even paid the bills of another one of their customers who couldn't afford medecine for their dog when I happened to be brining my dog in for her shots and noticed that this family didn't have the money to take care of their pet. Perhaps Dr. Jayaram was having a bad day or perhaps she truly thought she was giving me sound advice, but I would rather bring my pets to a puppy mill back-alley Vet than go there again. For the record, our girl is being treated at another local Vet and is thriving and I'm so glad that I did not heed the warnings of Dr. Jayaram because this girl has brought us so much joy and love and we look forward to many more happy years with her. read more

We are longtime (20+ year) clients at Capeway. We have 4 dogs and a cat that receive care here, and have had many others over the years as well. I can't say enough good things about the entire staff. They have a state of the art facility, and they are compassionate, caring, and expert in their field, from the receptionists, to the techs, to the vets. Today Dr. Gaudet proved once again that our faith is justified. Over the holiday weekend our cat was injured. He didn't receive appropriate diagnostic interventions or care at an emergency animal hospital-and we were there over 5 hours. We cared for him at home as best we could until he could be seen at Capeway this morning. Dr. Gaudet had him diagnosed, under anesthesia, and his dislocated jaw repositioned in less than 40 minutes. Started going to Capeway about 1 year ago. My schedule is hectic, and they are always accommodating. But today, I was more than impressed by them. Not by the doctors, they are all superb, although Dr. Sherman is our doctor (and he has a great sense of humor too!) but there was a mix up with appointment times. A computer glitch in my opinion (I've had many appts as my kitty is sick and have NEVER had this happen before). As soon as I asked them if the Dr. was running late, their office manager Ms. Dumais, (LOVE HER!) immediately looked into it and came over to me and told me it was their error (a secretary remembered scheduling me for 5 p.m and not 6:40 p.m.) and not only did they fit me in immediately, they made sure that they compensated me for the mix up and my time!
