We have been patrons of Warren Animal Hospital x 7 years and just wanted to commend the outstanding care and competent providers we experienced during October 1-3, 2025 with our 11.5 year old Vizsla, Jozi. Our Jozi was still in DKA crisis after recently being discharged from another emergency vet hospital in the area on September 27, 2025. Dr. Jody Mello-Brooks immediately diagnosed that Jozi was still in DKA crisis with positive blood ketones and was severely dehydrated too. She admitted her to Warren Animal Hospital for fluid resuscitation, blood sugar management, insulin treatments, antibiotics for her pancreatitis (diagnosed on 9/25/25) and electrolytes with close observation. Dr. Jody Mello-Brooks worked on Jozi x 22 hours over the next 2.5 days to bring our girl "back-to-life" again. I am thoroughly convinced that Dr. Jody and her staff (Erin Hartington, CVT, Olivia and Candice) saved our sweet Jozi's life. No doubt about it. They walked us hand-in-hand each day with the plan of care, treatments provided and future management of our dog who was newly diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatitis. My dog Charlie lived an amazing long life of nearly 18 years thanks to this practice. When his time inevitably came, Dr. Crane was incredibly compassionate and sympathetic. The vet techs were equally sweet and patient and offered me so much comfort. Although he was clearly at the end of his life, Dr. Crane offered any and every option to us to help extend his life and even gave us a few extra days to take him home and have time to say goodbye. They left no stone unturned in trying to help our little guy. They do not charge extra for emergency or last minute visits, and repeatedly told me not to worry about the bill while I was distressed, that it could wait until after. I'm so grateful and will continue to use this practice for my other dog, even though it means driving over 40 minutes from home. read more

Wow! I boarded my three adult male cats at Warren Animal Hospital for three weeks in July. This was the first time I had boarded the boys there. Each of my cats was formerly feral before I trapped and adopted them years ago. None of them has any experience with other people aside from annual visits at my previous vet. I was nervous about boarding them there as I had been with the other vet for 13 years. But, the former vet did not have "room at the inn" this summer. When I arrived at the hospital, I noticed the demeanor of the dogs who were trotted in by their owners as I waited my turn. I saw dogs who looked overjoyed to be going in! I asked several "pet parents" and they raved about the place. All I can say is that after several weeks at the WAH "Spa", my cat Abe, RAN to my next door neighbor when he saw her outside and BEGGED to be petted. He has NEVER done that before! I WISH I COULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS!!!!! Today I brought my daughter's cat to Warren Animal Hospital where she has been seen before. I personally ended my relationship some time ago with WAH because of the fact they previoulsy, killed my cat, by refusing to give her the medical treatment she needed and pushed her aside to care for my other cat who they could make money off of by giving him his shots. I woke up the next morning to the cat dead on the floor next to me. I should note that I contacted my primary vet, who could not take her today due to the condition she was in and was not equipped for her needs. I waited, someone came to the car and about 10 minutes later some rude vet tech walked over to my car flat out refusing to treat my cat because I personally had terminated my relationship with them. The cat was in renal failure, dehydrated with a very low body temp. The cat was literally dying in my arms. Yet those selfish, self centered, greedy, unconscionable people, refused to treat her. I was force to bring her to an emergency hospital where I had to euthanize my poor baby, which could have been prevented had there been medical intervention. My dad still insists on taking his dog there, since he needs to be medicated to be bathed and clipped. $500 and the dog comes out looking like he's been in a butcher shop. He's bleeding all over his body due to his skin tags, I even attempted to take him in sooner to get him cut so this wouldnt happen and the incompetent groomer they hire, hacks the poor dog all up. They have forced me to come pick him up, when he was still high as a kite on anesthesia, because they wanted to all leave for the day. The poor dog then deficates all over my brand new car, because they were in too much of a hurry to properly care for the dog! These people are the worst! They should not be allowed to handle animals at all. They are incompetent, worthless and I think all of their vets got their licenses out a cracker jack box. I personally am going to be weighing my legal options. If you love your pet, DO NOT go to this office. Otherwise, you will be bringing home a dead pet. read more

We've been taking our furbabies here for a few years now. They were ok but since the pandemic, the quality of their care has gone down the toilet. Brought our 7 yr old golden in for his annual exam and also because he wasn't himself. They said everything was fine and sent him on his way almost $250 later. Took my dog there for bladder stones $2,300 for the surgery bought the dog home dog was peeing blood all over the place call them up and they told me to bring him back few hours later received a call from them for me to come and get my dog and they recommended for me to bring it a Harbor Animal Hospital which i did... Harbor Animal Hospital told me they left Stones behind in his bladder and botched up the surgery.. another $3,700 to fix their mistake. Our Pit Cross, Canoe, was deathly ill and vomiting bile. We had taken her to our vet who didn't know what was wrong and said to wait a day. I just was too worried to wait a day. Since our vet had just closed we called the lewiston emergency vet clinic but they were full up and sending people to Warren. The attending vet was darling and said she thought it was a text book obstruction which was my worry even though when palpated she didn't act as if it was painful. They did a scan and couldn't see anything but she said she was certain it was some kind of obstruction. Since she was going to be leaving she said that she wanted to admit Canoe for the night so they could watch her. she said the vet that night had a lot of experience and if she was to guess she would most probably have to do surgery on her. We called several times that night but they said she was doing fine. Later that afternoon we got a call saying "She is fine and we are sending her home with stomach meds. This is probably an ulcer and reflux." I knew it wasn't that, Canoe was sooooooo sick and looked terrible when I picked her up. Then as soon as she entered the house she vomited a lake of bile. We rushed her back and another vet (We have now seen three) said she needed surgery quickly but, ready for this, they were out of oxygen. They had just enough for a little dog that was critically ill and admitted. He was so very apologetic and I felt so sorry for him but I was furious. Off we went to Scarborough at midnight. She was scanned, they saw the obstruction and was operated on. The surgeon said she really wouldn't of made it much longer. There they said that since she was a Pitt that it is very common that they do not show pain. That you cannot rule out an obstruction based on whether they show signs of pain. Ever. This whole thing, including my vet, cost 6,000 dollars. The Warren clinic bill was 1,200. There was never a call to say how sorry they were that they hadn't had oxygen, a mistake that never should happen and almost cost Canoe her life. I realize that mistakes happen but so many at one place? Will never use them again. Save your money and to to Scarborough. We have used them several times and they are amazing. read more

We started bringing our pets to Warren Animal Hospital after the second of our previous vets sent us there for surgery that he did not have the expertise to perform. We decided that if two prior vets (chosen for their proximity to our home) were gonig to refer us to WAH...we should just cut out the middle man and go to the best...and I do mean the BEST! Every single person we've encountered at WAH has been caring and compassionate from the staff to the vets. No matter what we are there for, the doctors always have kind words and are straightforward with us about our options. Dr. Mello brought my aging cat back from the brink of death (kidney disease) several times over the last few years before we finally made the decision to let him go (at age 16!), but through it all, everyone at WAH was wonderful, kind, compassionate and caring. We currently have three Boxers and a cat, all of whom are seen regularly at WAH. There are not enough words in the English language for me to express how grateful I am to them for all the wonderful care they have given us through the years. We took our cat here in August of 2012 to treat a crusty nose and he came back with fleas. He is a housecat that has never been outside and the incubation period for fleas tracked exactly with his visit. However when we called to bring up this possibility the woman on the phone was very rude and pretty much told us it was impossible for him to get fleas there, then reeled off a bunch of inexplicable other scenarios. We didn't call expecting confrontation. I mean, there are animals moving through that place all day, it's not surprising that there could be fleas there. We weren't even demanding free treatment (though I thought it would be offered). But the denial and rudeness really threw us off and put us into an offensive, angry consumer mode. 100$ spent, our house now smells like weird cleaning products and our cat appears worse off than before. We talked to some local pet shops and get some recommendations for better places. read more

Two years ago (2014) I brought my dog Foxy, a rat terrier, to have her teeth cleaned. A few hours after I picked her up, she started to develope problems walking. She would randomly fall halfway through her steps. I took her back to Warren Animal Hospital and they said one of her spinal discs was inflamed. They added that if she fell, she could end up paralyzed. I couldn't prove anything, but I believe they dropped her while she was under anesthesia. This morning I left her at East Side Vets to get her teeth cleaned and polished. I just received a call from them. They had to extract 12 (yes TWELVE) teeth! My concern is, how did a dog that eats only Blue Buffalo kibble for breakfast, carrots, Greenies, and Blue Buffalo canned dinners suffer such tooth decay in a matter of 2 years. I don't believe Warren Animal Hospital did a thorough cleaning. I'm so mad that two years later, I'm still dealing with their incompetence. Don't take your loved one to this place. Wish I could give you less then one star. Iv used this place with all my animals and used to love Mello. This place has went totally down hill they killed my 4 year old American bully. He was acting odd so we brought him in and even asked for extra blood work to be done. They said he was fine nothing is wrong. My boyfriend and I were Confused because he wasn't himself didn't eat much and was losing weight putting himself to bed and not wanting to play not to mention drinking water and throwing it right up I explained all this to them and they still said he was Fine. Well 2 days later I come home from work and my dog is dead on the floor. Worst day of my life I bring him back there just for Mello to say if I seen him not my daughter I would have knew he was going down hill I looked at him pissed off. My dog dies of liver and kidney failure. So when we got blood work how the fuck did they miss this. Will never ever return to this place ever again they lost all my trust. WAH used to be the best around. Since the pandemic, they refuse to accommodate me due to having to work and not being able to get there until 5 pm. They are opened until 5:30 pm but still will not give me a 5:00 appt. I feel they DO NOT care about my pet that has been going there for over 8 years. They text me in June my dog was in need of services and I didn't get an appointment until September. Even after making the appointment, I was still getting texts to get my dog an appt. Dr Mello and his staff are a compassionate, dedicated, friendly group. We have taken 3 cats and now 4 (about to be 5) dogs to them over more than 30 years. Of course, over that time several times we have had to make the horrible decision to help them out of their pain. The caring and compassion shown was comforting and helped US through. Went here with my dog today. My other vet closed down about a year ago and I had tried to take him to another vet after they closed, but had a horrible experience there, so because my dog was having issues, I decided to try WAH, on the referral of my sister. My 14-year old dog all of a sudden was unable to walk. His hind legs were giving out on him and I was devastated. Was thinking the worst... kidney issues, Lyme Disease, etc. I was VERY hesitant to bring him to the vet because of the last experience I had with a vet, but I knew he needed to go. I called at 8:30 this morning to see if they could see my dog and luckily, they said they could see him this afternoon... okay, good start.... brought him in and this place is busy.... we definitely had to wait, but it wasn't an outrageously long wait... someone else wrote about the 'chaos' behind the desk, and I definitely could see a lot of action and people all over there place back there. So, my dog goes into the exam room and a very young-looking woman comes in and checks him out and instantly finds that it's his 'back' that is the issue, he somehow hurt his back... (I went in there with dread, thinking they were going to tell me the worst and that he needed to be put down)... she prescribed 3 different meds for the pain and inflammation and told me to keep in touch if it gets worse. I was quite relieved. I waited only about 5 - 10 minutes for them to get the meds ready and the girl at the desk went over the dosage info. for each med. But, the bill? The bill was only $84.00 for the visit and the meds. A little over a year ago I had taken my dog to that 'other' vet when the left side of his face and jowl was all swollen on one side. The other vet checked him out and basically told me they had no idea what was wrong, threw about 5 different meds at me and charged me SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!.. they also suggested I bring him in for a CAT scan and other very expensive tests at another facility... and the kicker was that they said that 'euthanasia' might have to be an option, too.... all he had was an ear infection that traveled down. Within a week, he was perfectly fine again with no help from them! I tell that story because I was very gun shy about vets after that, but I was very pleasantly surprised that this young lady seemed to know exactly what it was right away and the fact that they didn't completely screw me with the bill..... very reasonable prices. So, despite some of the bad reviews on here, I had a very good experience with them today. read more

I just moved to Portsmouth and needed to find a vet for my new pup. I read a lot of reviews for local vets and the Warren Animal Hospital had the best reviews. The Mt Hope Animal Hospital (less than a mile from my house) had terrible reviews, so I decided to go with a sure thing even though it's about 10 minutes further away. I was able to get an appointment the same day which was very convenient. My first visit cost $75 and included shots and a checkup. I remember taking my cat to a vet when I lived in Boston and her first check up was $250 so this was refreshing. We also got a bag of dogfood, a 3-month trial of Frontline, a months supply of Heartgard (one pill) and a tube of Advantage all for free. Pretty sweet. The service wasn't all that personal ( a very quick visit ) and the way the office looks isn't anything to rave about, but I don't have any complaints. It was 4pm, close to the end of the day for them so I understand. There were a lot of other pets there so it seems like a popular place. read more

If I could no stars I would. Stay away from this place!! They took advantage of the pandemic. We took our 22 year old cat to have her years checked, they charged us $75 to wipe out her ears with cleaner. They didn't even weigh her, never mind do an actual exam. We were told by the vet tech tech, that they didn't even do a slide of her ears. When I called back and questioned why, she said, oh we did do one and didn't see anything. Bull! She was back out in less than five minutes. A few days after this visit she started to vomit. We thought that maybe she picked something up and it would pass. When it didn't and she stated having diarrhea also, we called them back. They wanted to give her meds and crappy prescription food without seeing her. When I showed to pick up the meds, I stressed again that she was still vomiting, they then made an appointment to see her the next day. They had her for a couple hours. Gave her skin burn from shaving a spot on her neck. The vet tech, NOT the vet, came out to tell us that none of her levels were off the chart for her age. That she was slightly anemic and her thyroid and kidney levels were SLIGHTLY elevated. Dr Mello never came out to speak with us. They never suggested keeping her, or that she should come back in a week, like they should have. They said and I quote the vet tech " take her home, she will be fine" and she also said Dr Mello stated that old age isn't a death sentence. Really? It is if you don't do the right things, as the vet. When the meds ran out, I called and Dr Mello was annoyed that I wanted to speak with him and not the vet tech. I asked if she should come back in, he said NO, she just needed more time on the meds. That was Tuesday, Sunday she started to vomit blood, we rushed her to ocean state vet and they said that she was extremely anemic and her kidneys were failing and they suggested euthanasia. We lost our lifelong friend because Warren animal hospital is over booking and is not giving each animal what they need. We have sat outside during the pandemic, while 12 other cars were in the parking lot, animals in and out in 5 minutes. Vets hardly ever coming out to talk to pet parents. The place is a dump and Dr Mello needs to retire. He wouldn't even get on the phone, when I called back about our baby dying. And the so called manager told me to go elsewhere and hung up on me! Please, please take your animals elsewhere! We will never go back here. Our baby lived to be 22, and might have lived longer, if we never brought her to Warren. read more

Horrific customer service. I purchase my cat's food from them although I have never brought my cats in for a check up because I have ALWAYS had a bad feeling about this vet. I will no longer be purchasing my food there either after the last time I went into the office. I stood in line, behind three people. A man eventually came in and stood in line behind me. I waited in line for TEN minutes, which I didn't mind..... UNTIL they asked the man behind me what they could do for him. AM I INVISIBLE????? An employee eventually finished helping the man that was previously behind me in line. Before he could even turn away from the counter the woman quickly walked away from the desk!! I would have been content with a simple "we'll be right with you", but it was more like "I don't want to help anyone else...I'm outta here!" To add insult to injury five minutes passed before any of the employees asked what they could get me (not "is anyone helping you?" or "sorry for the wait"). It took me over 15 minutes to pick up ten cans of cat food due to the rude and incompetent staff. These situations have happened every single time that I go there, however this was by far the worst I have ever been treated there. If they are this rude towards paying customers I wonder how they treat the pets when their owners leave. You couldn't PAY me to walk back in there. read more

We lost our cat of 17 years about a year ago. We used to bring our cat to a nearby vet in Seekonk. They were ok at first but we did not perceive them as a friendly staff. They became too much business, and showed less compassion. Their prices were also getting too high. Our cat towards the end was slipping downwards with many health problems. Our vet for many years wouldn't even see him unless we had the money up front. I didn't know what to do until I asked someone at my work who referred us to Warren Animal Hospital. They showed compassion, and prescribed treatment which gave our cat an extended life. Their prices are also very reasonable. We now have a new cat of 8 months an are and will be bringing him to Warren Animal Hospital. Thank You read more

I'd give no stars if I could. My cat had never been seen at Warren previously (though my dog had been a patient there for a few years until they wouldn't see her for a heartworm test because she didn't have a physical last year due to covid) because she's so awful to get in the carrier, so I keep her healthy at home. Unfortunately, she has a UTI, but I couldn't get her in the carrier, so I called Monday and they said that as soon as I catch her (which isn't easy), I can just call them and bring her right in. I called again this morning (Wednesday), and they said the same thing, "just bring her in". So, with a lot of effort and help from my friend, we got her in the carrier and I raced her to Warren, where they came out and told me they were too busy to see her. This is so unprofessional and totally inexcusable. But that's okay, because I took her to City Kitty and they were so nice, took her right away, and treated her. We have been taking our 2 1/2 year old dog there since he was a pup and now we also take our second puppy there. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes. The care is fine and not too expensive. The 3 year old had knee issues... they recommended a orthopedic visit, that was excellent and had a wait-and-see approach that was spot on (the injury resolved itself after a couple of weeks). I fee that so far, they have a realistic approach (not overly enthusiastic about suggesting expensive, intrusive remedies), courteous and prompt, and relatively inexpensive when compared to Barrington vets. read more

My 14 year old dog suffered for years with skin rashes. He was about 60% covered in scabs and open wounds and we couldn't get it under control despite bi-weekly visits to our vet and her many efforts and attempts at different meds/creams/diets. We spent thousands of $$ trying to help him before we finally called warren animal hospital because it got to the point that my dog couldn't move without being in pain and he was bleeding on everything in our house. He wouldn't walk or let us touch him. The vet we saw at WAH gave him a special topical treatment made in-house and some antibiotics and he was cleared up in 2 weeks. He hadnt been completely clear in over 7 years before that. We were amazed and felt awful that he suffered for so many years. They literally saved our dog. It's been 6 months since we first took him; all his fur came back and he hasn't had a single flare up since. He looks better than ever and shows more personality than he has since he was a puppy. He loves to snuggle and be pet now. He even got strong enough for us to take him back to WAH for surgery to get some tumors and bad teeth removed. Again, they were awesome and caring and he recovered 100%. I can't believe my senior dog looks and acts like a puppy again. We are so lucky we brought him here! Dr. Jodi is FANTASTIC. I'm not a huge fan of any of the other vets in the practice I've brought my dog to 2 others when he was a pup and they seemed way more concerned with the fact that I had him so young than helping me feel comfortable about being a new pet owner and giving him his puppy boosters, but when I talked to someone who sees dr Jodi, I went back only to see her specifically and felt completely at ease and found my vet. She takes her time makes you feel important and answers ever single minuscule question you may have. She made me feel like a friend and she's easy to talk to. You can call on the vet techs in the office for anything they are very helpful. I recommend her to everyone! read more

Our 9 year old Persian required eye surgery to remove 2 growths. I had heard about Warren Animal Hospital from friends however we had always taken our cats to another local vet for many years. When we were faced with the need for surgery (and the high cost), we decided to get a second opinion and chose WAH. The staff was great and answered all our questions. So, we decided to go ahead and have WAH perform the surgery. We are so pleased with the results - not to mention the very significant difference in prices.
