On April 25, 2026, around 10:15 a.m., I called VCA 4222 Route 27, Princeton, NJ 08540 to get my dog Lily's test results and the veterinarian's notes. The staff member who answered (Brittany) refused to provide the information or explain how I could obtain/understand the notes, and the call became unnecessarily unpleasant. I had to keep pressing the issue of her attitude and lack of willingness to assist so that she could email me the test results. I shared that I'd already paid over $300 for testing (and $580 for the initial visit) and that Lily has a tumor diagnosis--so I needed the results to make timely decisions about her care. Instead of empathy or clear next steps, I was met with a dismissive tone and no helpful guidance. Warning for other pet owners: if you need test results or vet notes promptly, be prepared for delays and poor communication. A clinic handling serious diagnoses should have a clear, respectful process to release records or connect you with someone who can interpret them. I do not feel comfortable returning, and I recommend choosing a different provider if you want straightforward, compassionate communication. Management should follow up and clearly explain how clients can obtain test results and veterinarian notes the same day they request them. I can't say enough kind words about the doctors and staff at VCA Princeton. Dr miller has a heart of gold, is incredibly compassionate, informative, and caring. She went above and beyond caring for my cat Cheddy whom we ultimately had to say goodbye to due to irreversible HCM. This emergency visit was my first impression of this office and I was very impressed. Texting to ask questions during the stressful moments and give updates to the Dr/staff is so easy and helpful too! I've brought my cat Jasper in as well who was newly diagnosed with Diabetes. Dr. Miller walked me through every step of glucose testing, insulin administration and recommended diabetic safe foods. Mary is such a sweetheart and always makes me feel comfortable; even my difficult cat loves her! Lisa and Brittany at the front desk are wonderful and always greet me with a big smile. Lisa is so sweet and funny; she remembers my pets every time I call the office. Dr Sylvia is great too and was very direct and informative about my cat's diabetes! You can't go wrong in this office. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff made both me and my pet feel welcome and cared for. Dr. Slade is not only incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but he also has that rare gift of making animals (and their humans!) feel at ease. He took the time to thoroughly explain everything, answer all my questions, and treated my pet with the kind of gentleness and attention you'd hope for. THE FRONT DESK IN THIS LOCATION IS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. No compassion or courtesy with regard to a sick animal. I was less than 15 minutes late for my first appointment ( first time patient arriving with a sick rescued animal) and was rudely and abruptly told we couldn't be seen - This is supposed to be a Veterinary HOSPITAL- a place where second injured animals are supposed to be seen. I would have waited, but was told they wouldn't fit us in. This is not a way to run a business. And the manner in which we were told was disgraceful. Sometimes we have to go out of our way for people in need and had they done it it would've gone a long way with me. Thankfully, I was able to secure an appointment with a different clinic- not VCA. This girl is a handful at 110 pounds and dr Barron knows and u understands my girl needs time and can't be rushed. She and her staff are so patient and caring as if my animals were their animals . I had been taking my dog to Dr. Mann for the past 7 years and he was always wonderful, patient and efficient with my little guy. Now all of a sudden I got switched to Dr. Pearson, who by all means needs to learn to install confidence in her abilities to her patience parents. You could tell she was nervous and to draw blood they actually took my dog in the back. Dr. Mann would do all of this right there with me in the room so my dog could see me and not be so scared. She also didn't check his eyes, which is something Dr. Mann always did. After I paid and walked away the Vet tech came running after me to tell me that Dr. Pearson suggested that the next time I come back we sedate my dog.... i am sorry but say what?! Since when do you need to sedate an older, toothless-dog to give him his annual check up and draw a little blood, when his regular Vet was totally capable to do all of this without sedation.... do you see the pattern?! Dr. Mann is fantastic and I miss him! Dr. Pearson clearly needs to practice how to treat little dogs better (but not on mine). Later that afternoon my little guy was limping on the leg they had drawn the blood from and at night you could see that he was totally uncomfortable (see picture). That totally sealed the deal for me that it was time for me to find another Vet. Cause for me to drive 1 hour each way and to receive mediocre service and get charged more then the previous year is unacceptable. VCA County Veterinary Hospital - He was out sleeping way earlier then he normally is - Veterinarians Near Me - Princeton, New Jersey

The vets here are very nice. They have been in the area for many years (their building is brand new, but they were previously located up Rt 27 N about 15 minutes away) and I believe the vets are experienced professionals. Office staff is generally polite and scheduling a visit whether for an emergency or not, is usually not a problem. When one of my dogs became suddenly paralyzed, we brought her here. The vet told us a few scenarios that could have caused her collapse. He gave us several options to proceed but let us know it was unlikely that she would recover. When we decided to put her down, the staff was conscientious and comforting. So if they are nice, professional, convenient, recognizable members of the community, and I've trusted them in the past why only 2 stars? Every time I bring a pet here (which is rare now) I feel like I'm being targeted by a con man. Every test costs extra. A basic examination is never enough. For example - one of my dog's eyes were irritated and obviously bothering her. The vet took one look and said it was most likely a minor infection that would be cleared up in a few days with some ointment. However, he didn't stop there; he said he wanted to check for something else in her eyes (something worse, etc.) and gave her some drops and then put a test strip on her eyes. He neglected to mention that these drops cost 15$ each (literally two drops), and each test strip cost 20$ AND it was highly unlikely anything else was wrong! My 10 minute vet visit went from 25$ to 100$ because of a service I did not ask for and if I had known it was not part of the exam, I would have declined. I would never take my animals here for this reason alone. However, it is very convenient (driving 30 minutes with a dog in the car isn't exactly easy if they're sick and you're alone) and that counts for a lot. If you must go here, just be specific about what you want and ask before they do any tests. read more

After having bad experiences elsewhere I chose to try County Vet Hospital. I called early Monday morning and just missed the last appointment for that. I booked an appointment for Tuesday and asked the receptionist to give me a call if anything opened up. She did, and I was able to come in a few hours later. I got to the hospital ten minutes early and only waited about 10-15 minutes to be seen. I discussed my concerns with Dr. Mann. He told me that in my pets case an x-ray would be a waste of money. He recommend an over the counter medication and we were on our way. I was at the Wawa ordering a sandwich by 11:45. The staff are pleasant, facility is clean, wait is minimal, doctor is knowledgeable. If the exam fee weren't $69 I would have given it five stars. All in all I would recommend this place. read more

I have been going to this veterinary practice for 15 years. They are expensive, but the vets I saw before this one were more expensive and suggested a lot of unnecessary procedures. Like human doctors, vets may occasionally make a misdiagnosis or overlook something. My current dogs are both 12 now (their average life expectancy for their breeds) and have never been to any veterinary practice but this one, so they must have done something right. One of my dogs has had two tumors removed and gets infections from chewing herself. They have always been treated promptly and properly. The people are very caring about the dogs, and the vets here have solid surgical experience. As for pushing heartworm medication, as one reviewer claimed, every vet considers that an essential medication, but if you do not routinely give it to your dog, they have to do a test before you restart it because if your dog has heartworm and you give them the heartworm pills, it could kill your dog. I find it suspicious that Yelp has excluded the positive reviews for this practice from the overall rating and has hidden them. read more

I like these vets a lot. I have seen both Dr. Mann and Dr. Steckroat, and they are both great. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are expensive. However, I do not believe they are unreasonably so. They are very thorough, which I really appreciate, which means that sometimes they will recommend optional things (like blood tests or x-rays) which may not be strictly "necessary" but really are a good idea. I am lucky enough to generally be able to afford what is recommended, and I believe that being thorough and doing some of these early "optional" things can keep my dog healthy so that he doesn't develop more serious/expensive problems down the line. What I like most about this vet is that the doctors and staff are very kind and gentle with the animals. My dog is fear-aggressive and can be difficult to handle, but everyone at this practice is very good with him and make his vet-going experience calm and low stress. Also, even when they are recommending expensive things, I truly believe they have the animal's best interests at heart. Sometimes I will ask about doing something, and they advise against it (even though it would be more money from them) because they think my dog doesn't need it. If you are really pinching your pennies, this may not be the right fit for you, but if you have a budget for vet expenses and want really thorough care, I'd definitely recommend this practice. Brought my daughter's healthy rabbit for a check up! During the exam the vet dislocated his leg. Then asked my daughter if this ever happened before! Like it was my daughters fault. When I came back to pick up my broken rabbit they had us waiting over an hour. I think it was to make sure all the other clients were gone. I have never experienced anything like this ever! I hope they don't charge me!!!!!!!! The leg wasn't sprained it was shattered! They charged me for the exam and to have a member of our family for almost 10 years but to sleep! I am extremely pleased with Dr. Barron. I brought in my 18 year old cat, Kelly, and had to have her euthanized. We were all sad and I received a lovely card signed by Dr. Barron and the entire staff. My visits with Maggie, my 17 year old, have been wonderful. Dr. Pearson diagnosed her thyroid condition and she has gained weight and is doing well. Dr. Barron is thorough and compassionate and is helping Maggie continue her improvement. I do miss Dr. Steckroat very much... he moved on to large animal practice but was a special doctor! read more

Jason, Veterinarians have to use a flourescein eye stain to determine if a pet has an ulcerated cornea. If so, the veterinarian must prescribe an eye ointment or drop that does not contain a steroid because that will cause the ulcer to worsen. Although your veterinarian didn't suspect an ulcer was present, he had to rule out the possibility and the only way to do that is to stain your dog's eye. Veterinarians preferably prescribe an eye drop/ointment that contains a steroid because it aids tremendously in inflammation, but they will not do so if an ulcer is present. I know that you posted your review a while ago, but just came across it and wanted to clarify the reason for your doctor's diagnostics. I'm not sure if the doctor explained his reasoning for doing the flourescein stain with you. I'm not a veterinarian but work at an animal hospital. In addition, you can always ask the doctor how much a particular procedure will cost if you are cost conscious. Just know that you may not be getting the ideal treatment for your pet. read more

I have been using County Veterinary Hospital since 1999 and have seen a number of changes in the practice over that time. I primarily used Dr Mann until his recent semi retirement and his sage advice was always on the money. Recently I have used Dr Barron and she is amazing. I have two dogs -- one of whom is severely diabetic, blind and has issues with mobility and Dr Barron has been amazing. She literally brought him back from the edge of death with her treatment of him. Whenever we have an issue to discuss she calls me back in a timely manner and responds to emails on off hours. She always goes above and beyond. And she has worked closely with the doctors at Northstar vets (where we have had to go on two occasions) so that we have a comprehensive long term plan of care. Dr Barron is absolutely amazing and she is the reason I remain at County Vet as Dr Mann is moving to retirement. read more

Brought my sick cat to get help on Thursday 5/28 got no sympathy or information on how sick Felix was. He was getting anemic and instead of trying to help with the anemia while trying to find out why or explaining how serious it was, they took blood for a test which they had to send out so no results until Friday, 5/30, and sent us home. I had to call 3 times on Friday to get the results to finally find out that they had no answers still no sympathy or concern and needed to run another blood test, again no help with anemia other than paying for another blood test and medication for an appetite stimulant, I'm now up to $300 will no more information than before I brought him in. Over the weekend Felix got so severe I finally had to take him into Animerge to finally get the information that County Vetinarian Hospital never gave me. Finding out what was wrong with Felix was going to be a project and to buy time he would need a blood transfusion because the anemia got so severe. I let Felix cross the bridge vs suffering early Monday morning 6/2. Still not hearing what the last test results revealed from County I waited to see how long it would take for County to call me Monday, after already letting Felix go. Still not hearing from them at 2:30 pm I called, I paid for the test I deserved the results. They first asked for a number the Dr could reach me, I told them I didn't need the Dr Felix is already gone, I got the results within minutes via fax. I know I may be asking too much but a sympathy call from the Dr or asking what happened would be nice. County Vetinarian Hospital keeps you in the dark, so they can suck money out of you like a Hoover vacuum with no sympathy or concern. I would never recommend them unless you have a lot of money and nowhere to spend it. read more

I have been bringing my pet rabbits to Dr. Pearson for many years now. My rabbits have always been diagnosed and treated properly for a multitude of medical issues such as : dental disease, growths, bladder sludge, G.I. stasis, upper respiratory infections and more. I am always impressed by Dr. Pearson's ability to be thorough, compassionate, knowledgeable and careful with my bunnies. I have taken my dogs to this place for 6 years now, for reasons ranging from routine check ups to tumor removal. The doctors are highly competent professionals, kind with their animal patients, and easy to communicate with. The staff has always been courteous and helpful. This place is a total scam and I warn all pet lovers to stay away from it. I brought my dog with diarrhea along with a stool sample. I was prescribed a treatment for parasites. I payed $185 dollars (all good). I later got a call from the office saying that the stool was negative for parasite, but to continue with the treatment. I challenged why I would be given a treatment for something he didn't have. I was ask to continue with the treatment and that if it did not work, "they would take care of it". A week later, as expected, my dog was worse and I called the office. I was told to bring the dog again and got a different treatment. They wanted to charge me $85 dollars for the visit and the new medication. I challenged why would I have to pay again when I challenged the initial treatment and was told to continue it. I explained all this to Alisha, the office administrator, and she stuck to the argument that it was against the policies of the hospital not to charge for office visits and medication. When I mentioned that I initially challenge the treatment, she implied that I was making that story up. I have no problem paying whatever I have to pay for the well being of my dog, but I refuse to pay for what is not fair. If I am paying for a treatment and, most of all, challenging it before it starts, the practice should be responsible for its effectiveness and accountable for any offerings they make to their customers. All these people want is to make your pet sicker to take as much money as they can from you. I will submit a complaint to the BBB about this situation.
