I've been taking my dog to this clinic since she was born, but after my recent experience, I will never go back. When my dog suddenly stopped eating and drinking, I called to have her seen urgently. Despite being a long-time patient, they refused to fit her in, citing a lack of staff, and referred me elsewhere -- to EVH, which has a reputation as a last stop for very sick pets. I pleaded with them to make room for her, but they still refused. Thankfully, I took her to Veneta Vet, where they got her in right away, diagnosed her issue, and performed the surgery that saved her life. One week later, she's recovering beautifully and almost back to normal. It's clear to me that this clinic no longer prioritizes the well-being of their long-time patients. I'm deeply disappointed and heartbroken by the lack of care and compassion we received. read more

Very friendly staff who didn't pressure us to do anything we didn't want to with our pet.

I'm a new cat owner and rescued my cat about a month ago. I brought him to this clinic yesterday for what was supposed to be a simple, free check-up. During the exam, Dr. Brynn FitzClemen began feeling his body and noticed some mats on his belly. I already had a professional grooming appointment scheduled for the next day to have them safely removed. Without asking for my permission, the vet attempted to remove one of the mats and ended up cutting my cat's belly open. What should have been a quick visit turned into a three-hour procedure that required sedation and sutures. I never received an apology or even an explanation from the vet who caused the injury. The vet tech, however, was incredibly kind and comforting she reassured me that everything would be okay and genuinely showed empathy. The veterinarian who performed the surgery afterward was also very professional and took great care of my cat. While I appreciate the efforts of the staff who helped after the incident, I am deeply disappointed by how the situation was handled overall. As a new pet owner, this experience was extremely upsetting, and I unfortunately do not plan to return to this clinic. read more

Just money grabbers!! they LIED to me 3x in 24 hours. First time was, they tried charging me $60 for a test that my pup is TOO YOUNG FOR! So that was a fight to get that removed.. then, I was told if I signed up for the $120/mo plan EVERYTHING including ANY meds that went home were covered.. NOPE! had to pay $67 for that. Then in the paperwork (i have proof) it says that he was being sent home with BOTH the shirt AND the elizabeth collar.. can you guess what happened next? YUP your right.. it was ONE OR THE OTHER and I would have to pay ANOTHER $18 for that!! What was their solution?! For ME to go to a pet store at 9PM(they are all closed) to BUY ONE! EXCUSE THE HELL OUT OF ME!! I have 4 kids and they have school tomorrow for one, and for two they are NOT old enough to be home alone!! Did they offer to reimburse me?! Haha nope.. 3 strikes your out! I will NOT be paying any further payments to them, and I will be locking my card so they can't charge me for their "plan" that THEY SAID would cover EVERYTHING needed!! Even while I was in waiting, a woman came in with a stool sample for one of her dogs and the receptionist said "she's not due for that yet, idk why they told you to bring it in, and try to charge you for it. So I'm not going to charge you." That right there was my reassurance that I will no longer be doing business with them going forth. read more

No, no, no. we have to have a totally separate appt. where we do unnecessary bloodwork and other tests so we can charge you outrageous prices for it. Don't want unneeded services? Too bad, it's hospital policy for us to overcharge in every way possible. Oh, and we'll do our best to guilt trip you into paying for things your pet doesn't need. The veterinarian business has become a total scam designed to drain your wallet. Run, don't walk, from this profit farm. They are so amazing and kind here. I have been here many times with my dog and cat and they are always amazing and so helpful. When my dog had to be put down, they were kind, gentle and empathetic. The room where the process took place was really nice with comfortable chairs, a fountain and relaxing lighting. They also gave us plenty of time with her before they got started. When I got her ashes & clay paw print back, they were packaged up so nicely and had a very sweet card signed by some of the people that work there. After discussing the incident with me, they made a note that my pets would not be seen by the vet in question again. They also assured me that the vet (who apparently was new at that time) would be counseled so that other pet parents do not have to deal with such a situation. I appreciate VCA for following up diligently here and over the phone. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I rarely give less than 5 stars, but my most recent visit has made me never want to visit this clinic again. First, the good: I've been coming here for 2 years. Until my last visit, I've found the vets, assistants and staff to be professional, caring and wanting only the best for my pets. I've trusted this clinic with the welfare of my pets and until my last visit, was never let down. I do not want to name anyone (VCA can look up my records) but here's how my last visit went: I had my cat brought in for a routine full-body exam. He was seen by a vet I've never interacted with before. She read in his record that he had been stressed during the prior visit (received vaccines) and claimed that he is aggressive. My cat is absolutely NOT aggressive. This isn't my bias - it's a fact. This vet very rudely said that I need to bring him in again because if my cat (who I've raised since birth) attacks me, I will sue them for damages and they don't want a lawsuit. I said that I firstly, I have enough money and I'll never sue someone if they aren't at fault. She then retorted that if my cat attacked her assistant (keep in mind that he showed NO aggression), the clinic will have to deal with a work injury lawsuit. So ridiculous! She refused to touch him to check his teeth, so I opened his jaw for them. She glanced from a distance and said that the teeth are fine (and to think I was planning to spend $$$ on teeth cleaning for all my pets here). She then wanted to leave, and I had to insist that she check his ears. She shone the flashlight in from literally *2 feet away* and said that the ear was fine. After that, I had to ask her to check his OTHER ear... I mean, she really, really didn't want to deal with my sweet cat (the worst he did was hiss - ONCE). She insinuated that I'd look for an excuse to sue them. Or that my cat could endanger their lives. Imagine how you'd feel if you were told by a VET that your beloved pet could slap them with lawsuits ... And what kind of vet checks an ear from a "safe distance"? The hell ... To add insult to injury, I paid $70 twice for that full-body checkup - once for the last time (when there was no checkup) and then for this instance, when the vet repeatedly insulted me, my beloved pet, and refused to do her job. I'm the kind of person who's brought a feral rescue in here for flea treatment and spent $400+ on medication, vaccines and biopsies. I've spent literally thousands of $ here, so I don't care about the extra $70. It's the insulting experience I had that bothers me. I won't be bringing in any of my 4 pets here again. read more

My experience with VCA Mckenzie Animal Hospital was awful and frustrating. After multiple visits and the last bill racking to over $1000, I have received no information, help nor valid test results from VCA. After thousands of dollars spent with unnecessary testing and no results, the doctor comes back with a dozen more tests for our scared cat to endure. This place just wants your money and does not care if your animal suffers for it. Stay away and save a headache. read more

We had to face the tough decision to put our cat who was in renal failure down. The vet we normally took him to couldn't get him in at a decent time, so we took him here. I can now say that I wish we had been bringing him here the whole time. The staff here are extremely sweet and compassionate. The room where we euthanized him was comfortable with a rocking chair and water fountain. It was as soothing as it could be for our poor kitty and us as we got to hold and pet him when the dose was administered. They gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye and even gave us a clay plaque with his paw prints. This place made an unbearable decision a bit less hard, and that means the world to me. Do NOT have surgery on your animal here!! I had been going to this Vet for 5 years for all 3 of my dogs. My puppy had bleeding out of his penis, and needed emergency surgery for a prolapsed urethra. Terrible, right? They ended up sewing his penis closed during the surgery, and sent him to another animal surgical center in Springfield. The original surgery cost ober 1400.00 at McKenzie. The second surgery 3 days later cost 1400. They refused to even give me a break on the cost, let alone comp me on a botched surgery. After being a customer for many years, they treated me terribly. It was an error they made, yet would not admit error, stating it was a side effect of the surgery. Sewing the penis closed is a side effect? Nope. I will tell everyone I know with a pet to steer clear. I get angry every time I pass there. My puppy was in pain for a month. read more

I think if you have a cat it is a good place. But, if you have a dog they will ask you to take it outside or, drug your dog before coming in? Also, they didn't close my cats cage all the way and the door came open as I was going toward the car. He got out but I caught him just in time. This was after the tech shamed me for not taking better care of the cat. The cat was an outside cat for a very long time (I took him in 3 years ago. They guessed his age wayyyy off. He was 18. It seems every time you go to this vet they are more concerned with how much they can add to your bill than care for your animal. For example one visit they said my cats teeth needed cleaning to a tune of $1300.00, we declined. He has a thyroid condition and the vet continued to have us come in every other month for bloodwork at a "minimum" of $95.00. He's almost 14, still plays, and doing very well. At one of these visits that added up to almost $300.0, to once again get his thyroid meds refilled, they also took his BP charging $75.00 proceeding to tell us he may need BP meds and further testing is recommended. We have since gone to Q Street Veteranary, he's been checked for his thyroid and we have a "99 times" refill prescription for his thyroid meds until May of next year. Should we see a decline/change, to contact them. VCA will never be recommded by us. read more

The wait times are ridiculous every time I go. I even called before I left my house and still waited over 30 minutes before being seen. That is because I called from my car stating that I've been waiting and needed to be seen. Prices are outrageous as well. read more

I'm writing this review to warn anyone who is considering going to this hospital. Last night my boyfriend's 12 year old dog and best friend got out of their backyard. They searched all night for her and then decided to call animal control. After not even a 24 hour period they were notified that this hospital had decided to put her down. What makes it their choice? She didn't bite anyone or show aggression. It's people like this that make me sick. She was perfectly fine. She was able to go to the bathroom on her own and walk around and even play with our younger pup. Obviously these people have no regard for anyone else and are lazy and just decided to put her down because it was easier than trying to find her home. Who will now miss her dearly. RIP Lucy. Initially, despite hearing nothing but amazing things from my mother, who has been bringing her cats here since we all moved to the area, I was a little reluctant. This is only because dealing with VCA clinics in other states, I know that they tend to be on the pricier side. However, I have learned the hard way recently, that you get what you pay for! I am happier and less stressed knowing that my fur(less) baby is in excellent hands. The staff all seem to have genuine care and concern for the animals that come through their doors and Dr. Lee is amazing! She really knows her stuff and I trust her fully. Five-star treatment! I want to thank the staff at Mckenzie for their extreme compassion, respect, and understanding. My cat who has kidney failure had a seizure this morning and i just knew it was time to let her go...she was suffering. My regular vet and three others in town could not fit me in to get her euthanised and offered no help or advice to end this poor kitty's suffering today. In My Opinion this is the best Animal Hospital Around, The Dr's are very caring People and so is the rest of the staff, As for the RX if you'd like a Prescription for the meds needed they will give you one if asked. They do recommend you be cautions of who you get your Prescriptions from because some places don't handle them properly and that can make your pet even sicker. For all the ways they take care of pet's the prices are reasonable. Think how much you would pay if you didn't have Insurance for yourself and then check the prices because the animals there are treated as good if not better than humans are with there Dr. And MUCH FASTER Results for testing! read more

I started using McKenzie Animal Hospital earlier this year for our new pet rabbit. So far we've had one regular exam, neutering, and an emergency visit this week for a broken foot. I am very happy with the caring service that we've gotten here. It's the only veterinary clinic in Eugene/Springfield that comes recommended by the Oregon Rabbit Advocates Society. That's the reason I chose this clinic initially, but the excellent care that my rabbit has received here is the reason I'll keep coming back. read more

WAY OVER PRICED!! They play on your sympathy for your beloved pet to get you to OVER PAY for services and especially medications, which are DOUBLE the price from other vets and pharmacies!! The reason I didn't give just one star is they were able to get our Baby Girl in several months ago as a new patient when our own vet wasn't able to. She was experiencing severe pain at the time. Now that she is on prescriptions for the rest of her life, they don't want to willing provide RX's to "other" cheaper pharmacies to fill our babies meds. Seem's like their aren't so much for the health of our pet now that they aren't going to make $364 off an RX that I can purchase for $189.99 for the SAME exact RX! I have recently relocated to the Eugene area and was in need of a vet for my 14 yr old dog. She was experiencing a variety of age and anxiety related issues. Dr. Frickie was highly recommended to me and has gone above and beyond my expectations. After completing a very thorough intake questionnaire, he completed the most comprehensive physical exam she has ever had. He asked appropriate questions, actively listened to my concerns, spent plenty of time with us and clearly communicated his treatment plan. Most importantly, he did not rush through the exam and was focused. He is so gentle and kind with my animals. He prescribed some supplements and Chinese herbs and suggested some other simple lifestyle changes. The results were astonishing. She experienced rapid and profound improvement both physically and cognitively. From the front office team, to the vet techs, to the Doctor himself, I feel secure in knowing that my animals are valued, respected and have the highest quality of care. The staff is professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I believe that in regards to McKenzie Animal Hospital you do get what you pay for. I'm out of state setting up a new house for myself and two dogs. I have a friend watching my babies. One is a 12 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, the other is an 8year old Ridgeback cross. My pointer all of a sudden was having an issue with one of his teeth, which is a BIG deal for me. He doesn't do well with surgeries. He usually injury himself more,(I have the vet bills to prove it) when he comes out of surgery if I'm not there to keep him calm. With me there there is no issue, and he is the perfect gentleman and doesn't freak when he wakes up. But being 1000 miles away, I couldn't be there for it. I went through 14 vet hospitals over phone interviews, and only got rude answers. I'm a Vet tech myself, and know what he needs, I just had to find a vet I could trust and help me with what I needed. They took the best care of my baby, and when complications occurred a few days after the surgery with allergic reactions to the dissolving sutures, they took him right back in, did another surgery to fix it, and still were completely amazing. He is on round the clock meds, and usually deals with pain just fine, but this is a very sensitive area in his mouth. And gets pain meds every 3 hours. The staff has been SO amazing and on the ball over taking care of him, and keeping me up to date on what was going on and trying to keep me calm. The fact that even without having history on him, they took what I told them to heart, and allowed my friend who was watching him to occupy a room after each surgery for hours while he woke up in her lap. I cannot stress how amazing this place is and the whole team!!! From the first phone call, to the last visit he had last week, they are all my favorite in Springfield. I would recommend them to ANYONE!!! And I know this review is long, but it still can't say how much I owe them, and love the work they have done for my Shooter. Thank you all so much!!!!
