I currently pay $117.87 per month for a wellness plan, with the expectation that this plan provides value, transparency, and reduces surprise costs. Most recently, I was charged $43 per dog which I have two for nail trimming, which was not communicated to me prior to the service being performed. I was only informed of the cost at checkout, as I was about to leave. Had I known the price beforehand, I would have had the opportunity to decline the service. These add-on charges make it feel as though additional fees are being applied opportunistically rather than transparently. As a wellness plan customer, I find this experience disappointing and frustrating. Clear communication and upfront pricing should be standard practice, especially when optional services or products are involved. I did sent an email, they replied after two days to provide them more details but since then I have not received any response back after that. This service was done 1-8-2026. read more

We got our puppy Murphy in January of this year. We were looking for a new Veterinarian, and happened upon Ridgewood VCA. When I tell you, we all can't wait to go to Murphy's appointments! There's great parking, extremely kind staff, and phenomenal care. Murphy can hardly wait to see all of his friends at VCA whenever we go. Call backs are timely, and Dr. Healey is such a caring provider. She takes time to reassure us, answer questions, and even helped us navigate Murphy's gastrointestinal issues. I have been connected to Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital for over 30 years. i worked there during high school, and then when I had a dog 20 years later, I brought my dog to this veterinary hospital. They have been consistently great and I just wanted to acknowledge them. They helped my senior dog live a high quality of life and solved issues that the E.R.s in the area, with all of their fancy and expensive equipment and methods, could not solve. I will say that there were some restrictions on treatment that they could offer because of policies of the veterinary hospital conglomerate that owns them. Specifically, there was a minor treatment that they wanted to send me home with that there were not allowed to because of VCA policy. This home treatment would have been really helpful when my dog had an incident after their business hours and I could not do this basic treatment to get him feeling better. We had to bring him to the E.R. who almost killed him. But everything else was great. Especially the doctors. I worked especially closely with Dr. Healey (who has been there since I was working there in the 90s) and Dr. Tiagi, who was also fantastic. read more

On 3/16 we finally made one of the hardest decisions a family has to make. We were away from our long time Vet in Seattle and we needed to find a Vet that would help us put our aging kitty , Simon, to his eternal rest. He was the grandest cat that lived almost 19 years and had more adventures than most people! This was hard. It is by the grace of God we found Dr. Heisler and tech support , Jackie. In fact, the entire staff were sweet and caring. These folks were so amazingly compassionate. We recommend this hospital and look forward to using it again when our hearts heal. Brought my cat in on Monday early morning of the ice storm to this place as my vet was not opened. The cat was given an IV, antibiotic shot and bloodwork. The vet felt he should be fine but wanted to do bloodwork as well. When I called Tuesday morning, they told me the bloodwork was in and that the doctor would call with his results. I called several times on Tuesday and was told that the doctor would call me back. Wednesday morning I called to tell them that the cat had no improvement but was told that the doctor would call me back. I called again that afternoon on Wednesday and was again told that the doctor would call me back. On Thursday morning, I called again and was told that the doctor would call me back. By 11, my cat did not look well and by 11:45, I started to head over there to pick up the blood test results to show it to his vet. The doctor finally called to tell me that some of his numbers were were high and that he needed to go to a hospital for an ultrasound as they did not have this machine. I picked up his tests and took it over to my vet. The vet was surprised that he was not given an X-Ray. My vet immediately did an ultrasound and X-Ray and told me he had cancerous tumors and needed to be put down, which I did. The poor cat suffered for two days which is a horrible thing to not get back to me. When I asked the vet why she did not call me sooner, she told me that she was the only doctor on staff and she was too busy to get back to me. What a horrible thing to do. My poor cat should have diagnosed better with an X-Ray and quicker so he did not have to suffer. Shame on all of you!! read more

This place is ok, the issue I had is the head vet turns over the salaried vets each and every year (obviously they are not getting equity in the practice). You rarely see the same vet during the year and almost never after the year is over. (this area is populated with vets who left RVH and established other practices). They are expensive, charge for everything they do so you can easily see a bill of 250 to 300 dollars each time you go. Is professional and clean place and they do deliver good care but not real personal. read more

Took our dog for surgery to remove cycts. The dr never called to tell us how the surgery went and now we are informed he is retired. No one called us back and they never sent out the biopsies to see if they are cancerous. We escalated on saturday and asked for a manager to call us on Monday. Never happened we followed up on Tuesday said they would get back to us and didn't. Said if we wanted a follow up visit we had to pay for it. Horrible horrible customer experience. read more

I'm really surprised by the bad reviews for this place. From what I've seen, the staff and vets here are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The place is clean and the waiting area is spacious. As for pricing, from my life experience I've noticed that from coffee shops to car washes, dentists or doctors, anything with "Ridgewood" in the name is going to be more expensive than the norm. Here, a comprehensive visit runs just under $80. Although it is pricier than average, I've never felt that they were trying to do extra tests or any other swindly type stuff for more money. To me, they appear honest and genuinely concerned for the welfare of pets. If you have a few extra dollars to spend, this place isn't so bad. read more

I traveled 2400 miles so my dog could receive the UGELAB procedure, and I could not be happier with with the difference for my dog, or more thankful for the skillful and compassionate care she received from Dr. Cerf, Dr. Johnson, and the entire staff at the Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital. We were fortunate to find Dr. Cerf, and even more fortunate that my dog's tumor was one that was a candidate for the Ultrasound Guided Endoscopic Laser Ablation (UGELAB) procedure. Dr. Cerf pioneered the UGELAB procedure and performs it at his office in Ridgewood, NJ. When we arrived at Ridgewood, Dr Cerf and Dr Johnson did a through ultrasound of my dog's bladder which revealed that she was almost totally blocked by a tumor in her trigone, but it also showed that the tumor could be debulked using the laser, though there were still some unknowns which were fully explained, as well as the risks. At no point did I feel any pressure to go forward with the procedure, however there was an obvious need, and I had done the research. UGELAB was really the only good option with minimal side effects or risk of spreading the cancer. For some background, I had previously consulted with a radiologist who made clear the likely complications for palliative or stereo-tactic radiation therapies, which caused me to look for another option. My dog had been on chemo (mitoxantrone and piroxicam) for over 7 months which mostly kept the tumor in check. Since the UGELAB procedure, she has been on the same chemo regimen without a problem so far (going on 1 year). UGELAB is not inexpensive, however there is a great deal of work that is put into the preparation, and aftercare, as well as the cost of the specialized equipment which is needed to perform the procedure (ultrasound and medical grade lasers are expensive tools of course). My dog received multiple ultrasounds before, during and after the procedure, as well as urinalysis to monitor her kidneys before and after the operation. Throughout the time in Ridgewood, she was monitored closely by the staff and Dr. Cerf to minimize the chances for complications, spending several days in the hospital and several more where she had to return for follow up screening. Her recovery time was probably average or better (less than a week to travel), the hardest part seemed to be the grogginess due to pain meds. The estimate provided was correct since there were no complications. Obviously there are no guarantees with cancer, and the standard of care for TCC is sadly pretty hopeless. Fortunately, after the procedure, she seems pretty much normal now (though still on chemo and monitoring). But given the state she was in when we got to Ridgewood, I can safely say that Dr. Cerf and Dr. Johnson, and the whole team at Ridegwood saved my dog's life and certainly extended it (going on 5 months now with clean bladder ultrasounds). I am grateful that they have developed, and made UGELAB available. Hopefully more veterinarians will take on the challenge of learning this procedure so more dogs can be given a chance at a more normal life. It is clear to me that the folks at Ridgewood really care about their patients, and are focused on making sure the best possible outcome is achieved for my dog. Once again, thank you! Update 5/6/2017 - I was just reviewing my reviews and thought I would drop an update in here about my dog. The original Review was from November 2015 and my dog is still with us, and doing a well as could be hoped for. She has been on chemotherapy and also had a second surgery in December 2016 at Texas A&M last year (they took great care of her also, but take a much more conservative approach, leaving a good deal of the tumor in place and removing the parts that may obstruct). I still 100% recommend Dr. Cerf to anyone who can manage the expense of the surgery and the trip out there. After the surgery at Ridgewood in November 2015, she had many months of clear ultrasounds after the UGELAB in Ridgewood, her bladder appeared almost normal until the cancer returned in early July 2016, 8 months after the surgery. That's the way of things with cancer, but 8 months of almost normal function was beyond my hopes by a mile, and I can only thank Dr Cerf for that. read more

This is the closest vet to my home and I'll be driving out of the way rather than accepting their poor customer service. I called to make an appointment for a new puppy exam. They let me know they needed a stool sample and paperwork to do that, so I brought that in. The woman at the desk was extremely rude and spoke to me like a child asking one by one if I had brought the items she needed, then proceeded to exclaim they couldn't get me in for a few days and that the woman in the waiting room I had been chatting with had taken the last appointment for the day I needed. Took my dog here the other day for an emergency since something was on his skin and I was worried that it might be a tick bite. I also asked to do an annual check up since we were already there. My main concern was the bite looking thing on the skin and all I was told was to put an ointment on it and wait to see if it gets worst and to come back in a week if its still there. I mean, I could've told that myself, but I kind of wanted a better answer than that. When we did the annual, all they keep insisting was to give my dog some meds for allergies or do testing since he has lick stains on his front paws. Instead of giving me meds right away, why can't they recommend natural remedies first? Mind you the pills cost $80. I did some research and it has a lot of side effects! I even told the doctor I don't want it and still proceeded to give it to me anyways. I've seen multiple doctors and none ever insisted so hard to do testing or give meds to my dogs for his paws. Then they said they would do some blood work to test for the tick, which I said yes and without me knowing they also did blood work for red blood cells and white blood cells which cost about $300! I got out of there an hour later and paid $600! Half of what I paid to get my dog neutered and get the stones out of his bladder and this is just a check up !!! I am only going back in a couple weeks to get 1 more vaccination and I do not think I will be going back here again. Im not a fan of doctors who are too pushy to make a sale. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a busy professional who works in Manhattan and never write reviews/complaints because I never have any time. I write this with a very heavy heart and strong warning to STAY AWAY FROM RIDGEWOOD VERTERINARY HOSPITAL. They are VERY rude, VERY overpriced, unqualified, demeaning, not clean, and they do not care about you or the next pet that walks through their door. So in detail, I want to inform you of the terrible experience my husband and I experienced at Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ on Saturday October 13, 2012 at 9am. We have a 3 year old daschund that we treat as a daughter. She started to have seizures a little over a year ago which recently have become more frequent and longer in duration. On October 6, 2012 we went to see Dr. Stancel to review her past records and get a second opinion. We told Dr. Stancel that she shivers really badly when she doesn't eat leading us to believe that she has an issue with her blood sugar. We made it a point to note that we believe this to be causing the seizures. He recommended that we start with blood work to rule out Lyme and to look at her blood sugar for the past couple of weeks. The blood came back normal and Dr. Stancel said that we should proceed with a Bile Acid Test and not to rule out the blood sugar concern yet because the tests can be inconclusive. He informed that the Bile Acid test required fasting overnight, then they run blood work, she has to eat, wait one hour and run another round of blood work. We called to make an appointment and explained about Eva's shivering and the possibility of going into a seizure from fasting. The front desk told him that as soon as we came in they would take her right in the back, draw blood, and return her to us so that we could feed her right away. Saturday morning our baby started to shake within an hour of being awake. We got her there in time at 9am. Lesley at the front desk checked her in and said to give them one minute. After 5 minutes and our baby continuing to shake, I walked up to the desk where Bernice was now taking the place of Lesley. I kindly explained to Bernice that our baby had been shaking for over an hour and that I was concerned she may have a seizure if we continue to wait. She abruptly and with a nasty/snotty tone responded, "This is the right place to have a seizure." My husband and I and other patients in the waiting room all gasped in shock by this comment. I thought to myself, what kind of place is this that would hire staff so lacking judgment and compassion? So I looked back at Bernice and simply said, "I do not want Eva to have a seizure." She left to the back of the office. Moments later other staff started to come out and call other patients, who arrived after us, to be treated. Every one of them kept saying, "No, please take her (meaning our baby) first." The staff ignored the gesture and insisted on taking whichever other pet they came out for. With that, now I approached the front desk where Lesley had returned. I asked her what was going on and she quickly but gently said, "There are emergencies in the back and this may be a while and you are free to leave at any time." Between our poor little girl shaking from having to fast, the news of the emergencies and timing, other patients offering to take us ahead of them and still not being taken, and Bernice's attitude/poor character, we decided to go feed our baby in the car. Please note: moments after eating she stopped shaking and luckily she did not have a seizure. I went back in to get Bernice's name and to just give her a little friendly advice not to tell patients that they are "in the right place to have a seizure." For those of you who don't know, seizures are a neurological misfiring in the brain and every one can potentially cause a serious health threat/risk to animals or humans regardless of whether they are home, away, near or even in a hospital. She snapped back with a nasty and loud voice, "Just because you can't wait 15 minutes because you think your dog is going to have a bad day is not my problem." Again shocked, I never expected that response from her. First of all she was putting words in my mouth. I never said that I "thought my dog was going to have a bad day." I specifically said, "I am afraid that if we continue to wait, my dog is going to have a seizure." Secondly, I was only trying to help inform Bernice that she should refrain from saying things like that because it can cost the hospital on many levels from reputation to expensive lawsuits. She continued to go off on me with her temper tantrum and not one other of the 4 staff members around her told her to calm down. Days later, I have emailed a fully documented account of our horrid experience to the director, manager and Dr. Stancel, and guess what, you got it, not one person has returned an apology or probably even cares. We live with 4 dogs and also have several exotic pets, and spent thousands at RVH over a period of 2-3 years. We originally started going there because we found Dr. Stancel to be much more knowledgeable about reptiles than any other vet we'd found in the NNJ area. Eventually, we transferred the care of all our dogs to RVH as well because although we found them to be very expensive, we felt they provided high-quality care. However, over time, the facility became more and more unreasonable about their fee-related practices. There were 3 'last straws' for us. 1) we asked that RVH provide prescriptions for our 2 dogs' chronic medications to an online pet pharmacy, and they refused as a matter of policy because they want the money from dispensing. So not only did we have to pay their noncompetitive price for the meds, but we also had to drive 40 minutes each way every time we needed to refill. 2) I took 2 dogs in for totally routine vaccinations and exams. The bill was over $900. The kicker was that Dr. Healey, the vet who examined them, asked casually at one point if I wanted her to trim one dog's toenails while she was there, and I said sure. They had the gall to add a $20 charge to the bill for that on top of the already extortionate charges for the standard exams. 3) Finally, one of our dogs had suspected hip dysplasia, and before any treatment, Dr. Stancel wanted xrays. He clearly told us that he thought our dog could be xrayed without general anesthesia. However, the morning my partner dropped the dog off for the imaging studies, they made him sit and wait for almost an hour until they came out with an estimate for over a thousand dollars (FOR X-RAYS) because they said they'd have to put her under and there were a litany of preparatory procedures required for that. Mind you, all of these charges were prior to her getting any treatment whatsoever. We declined to have the xrays done there. After the xrays, the dog was to have had her first acupuncture treatment, which the RVH acupuncturist then said she couldn't do without xrays. If you've had any experience with traditional Chinese medicine and/or acupuncture, you know how preposterous that is. In summary, we were willing to pay the very high prices at RVH as long as there was value associated with those prices. But there certainly was a tipping point where they were simply gouging, and for that reason we cannot recommend the facility. What a shame. read more

My dog has TCC and I live in another State when I was willing to travel to Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey to meet Dr Cerf. My dog was diagnosis with possible TCC in November of 2014 when I started doing extensive research on this deadly cancer. I came across Dr. Cerf's laser ablation surgery and I was immediately interested in meeting him. I contacted his office and was instructed to send my dogs medical records to Dr. Chef as soon as possible. I gather the latest set of medical records and sent them over feeling hopeful. Weeks later Dr. Tara Johnson who is a part of his staff sent me an email that she needed additional information. I sent her an email attaching the additional information directly to Dr. Tara Johnson desperately waiting for a response. After all the work I did gathering my dogs medical information and spending my time writing to Dr. Tara Johnson to insure she had everything she needed in order for me to even talk or meet Dr. Cerf, I NEVER heard back from Dr. Johnson. Feeling desperate, I decided to call one more time and talked to a person named Javier (supervisor) who assured me he was going to be working with Dr Cerf the following day and would insure that Dr. Cerf would contact me. This was months ago and I still have not heard from anyone from Dr Cerf's office nor Dr Cerf himself. I am totally disappointed in the lack of communication and insensitivity from Dr. Tara Johnson after I spent so much time trying to explain my dog's illness in an email and forward all of his medical records. In addition to this Javiar who seem compassionate over the phone gave me hope that I would finally connect with Dr. Cerf. To date I have not heard from ANYONE from Dr. Cerf's office nor Dr Cerf himself and now glad we never connected. I have found a wonderful FIVE STAR TEAM of vets to include the wonderful Dr. Knapp herself who immediately took the time to meet me and went into action with a plan for my dog. Purdue Small Animal Hospital is a place I truly recommend for anyone who has suffered the pain of learning their dog or pet has TCC. She has done extensive research and dedicated her life in helping pets with cancer - Purdue is AWESOME!!! I want to put the word out there so no one has to experience what I have just trying to meet Dr Cerf. Even though I was willing to pay Dr. Cerf's fee for laser ablation if my dog was a candidate for the procedure to extend his life and would have, his price for laser ablation speaks volumes in how he really cares about his pocket book then the pets themselves. I feel he is taking advantage of people who care about their pets and would pay at no cost like myself. I'm so glad I never put my dog in their hands. I have read enough now to learn laser ablation is not as great of a procedure to put your dog through with TCC. There is no real cure out there for pets with TCC but treatment plans to help extend your pet's life. I went to this hospital for an EMERGENCY visit, instead of my bird's regular vet who is 1 hour away in Bound Brook, NJ. My bird DIED a few days later- as the Dr. DID NOT address her issue properly, just gave an antibiotic & had us schedule an appointment in a week; which was not the answer. The Dr. also did not advise me properly about her not eating well and how to give her extra nutrition, during the week, before the follow up. It was obvious that they ONLY cared about $$$, as I said I only had $400. They literally counted every penny to reach the $400 with useless testing. After 2 days of watching her rapid decline, I took her to a WONDERFUL vet in Franklin Lakes & her real issue was found within minutes w/a thorough exam & the doctor spent time during the visit, explaining the problem, but the critical care she urgently needed was not given by Ridgewood Vet- so it was too late to save her. My bird passed away in my arms. The other doctor felt so bad my bird was NOT treated right, that they would not accept payment for the hour I was there. They only accepted a donation to an outside charity-which I of course gave... My lovely bird could have lived.... I would never ever consider taking another pet to Ridgewood hospital for anything-you couldn't pay me to put trust in this facility. It was disgusting what happened. My regular vet (who is like the Incredible Dr. Pol & is worth the drive to Bound Brook), explained how these other vets, especially hospitals with many vets, only care about juicing people for $$$$. Pet care is just like human health care-not all doctors are good doctors! My own mother is a physician and she says it all the time, because of what she witnesses. Please do your research before putting your loving pets lives in the hands of a vet. Read as many reviews as you can! I had to do a lot of research to find my regular vet. For emergencies I take my pets to Franklin lakes, but continue see their regular vet in boundbrook. They finally removed my dogs stitches but not before the vet told me that my dog needed additional antibiotics (because of course they can't let you leave without charging you for something). When I asked the cost, and mentioned the previous issue regarding the surgical cost, the vet said "Well, having a pet is a large financial commitment, and if you can't afford it you shouldn't have one." REALLY? The fact that I've spent close to $5000 in 3 weeks didn't show commitment enough to my dog? Really lady? Walked in and was immediately comfortable here. Dr. Cerf is so nice, ridiculously smart, compassionate, interacts with you and your animals. I brought in a guinea pig to make sure he was healthy, after another vet mistreated and killed his brother. I am beyond devastated that I didn't know about Dr. Cerf before it was too late. His exam was SO thorough, he explains what he is doing, makes you comfortably. It is obvious within five minutes of meeting him that he is compassionate about animals and extremely smart. This office is 30 minutes from my home, there are plenty of closer places but I will choose this office for ANY and ALL future animals, no matter the commute or the price. read more

They are theives!!!!! All they care about is money. They act very nice to you but its a scam!!! My puppy got sicker after the visit. They give you anti biotic that is not recommeded by other doctors (i've checked). They take unnecessary x rays. Other doctors use stethoscope and know the issues but ridgewood doctors take x rays for more money. Bill easily adds up to over $400. I spent about $700 (2 visits) for a kennel cough and had to go to a different vet to cure my puppy. This place is so ridiculous. No wonder they work on sundays too. We brought our cat Bob here after he had stopped eating and grooming. Dr. Harries examined him and took blood. He called immediately the next day to let us know there were abnormalities and to take him for an ultrasound ASAP. Brought him to the animal hospital and long story short, he had lymphoma and it had spread all over. We were devastated to say the least. Tried steroids and the Doctor followed up with us a couple times to see how he was doing. Unfortunately, Bob deteriorated quickly and was unable to really walk or lift his head or eat and on June 3rd we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have him put down. They had us come in at the end of the day so we could have that whole day with him to say goodbye. They took us into a room right away when we arrived and there was a nice soft blanket on the exam table. Bob laid right down and was completely at ease. He was letting us know it was time to let go. They let us spend as much time as we needed with him before they completed the procedure. Afterwards, Dr Harries sent us a sympathy card and the whole office sent us another card as well with wildflower seeds to plant that would grow back so we can remember Bob for years to come. We could not be happier with the level of care and compassion that Ridgewood Vet gave to us during a terrible time. The doctors at ridgewood veterinary hospital saved my rabbits life! Also the staff were so attentive and compassionate. Of course their services came with a price tag but that's how they make a living! I have been taking my dog here for 3 years now for normal check ups and thought there prices were a little higher then the norm but I figured they are close by and it was convenient for me. Recently I took my dog, for his normal check up and they told me that he needed his teeth cleaned I asked for an estimate and I was given a estimate of $1400 minimum... this is insane AND THIS WAS JUST AN ESTIMATE WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE PULLING ANY TEETH AND ANY OTHER EXTRAS!!! A friend of mine recommended Ho-Ho-Kus Vet. I took my pet there and they charged me $400 for everything and they where AMAZING!!!! I don't understand where RIDGEWOOD VET can charge people so much for teeth cleaning and any other normal pet visit. I thought they cared about your pet?! Never again will I take my pet to RIDGEWOOD Vet. Ho-Ho-Hus is my new Veterinarian now. read more

I have been going to the RVH since 1985. While I agree with several reviewers that the prices are sky-high, I absolutely disagree with the reviewer who completely trashed the front desk staff, especially Berenice. In the nearly 30 years that I have taken dogs and cats to the RVH, there have been good days and bad days for all concerned, but the truest measure of the staff's professionalism and dedication can be found on a very bad day, indeed, in fact, a tragedy. When my 19 year old cat, Taffy, had a stroke just over two years ago, I rushed him to the office and was ushered into an examining room immediately. Dr. Travis Cerf took Taffy in the back to run tests while I all but collapsed in the examining room in shock and tears. Berenice sat with me, comforting me until Travis returned with the bad news that Taffy had to be euthanized. She was honestly warm and sincerely caring. She wasn't snide or flip or dismissive. She knew how it felt to lose a friend and truly empathized with my loss. She stayed in the room to share my burden and offer what comfort she could. She didn't have to do that; it's not a front desk duty. Are the staff kinder to me because I have gone there for a long time? Maybe, but I doubt it since none of them knew on my first visit whether I'd become a longtime patient. Berenice is a warm and decent human. She honestly loves and cares for her clients, both human and animal. Travis is a brilliant and considerate doctor. He considers all ramifications of action and inaction in a pet's care before rendering a course of treatment. Clients could choose far far worse than RVH. read more

I have been using Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital for over seven years,and I have had the same doctor for the past five years.My dog has a moderate heart problem,and Dr.Hargove has been on top of his health care from the very first visit. The Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital is FANTASTIC! The Doctors and staff are professional, caring and responsive. My dogs have been patients for 13 years and for 13 years I have received the highest quality of compassion, care and service. I would never go anyplace else. My older dog has had health issues for years. Dr. Dean Cerf and Dr. Travis Cerf have always been honest with me and discussed my options before charging me for any service. While the RVH may seem expensive to others, I have compared them with hospitals in the area and find them competitive. In addition, what others may say is a way to make money (ie. Flu shots etc) has been what has kept my living dogs alive for 13 wonderful years. I have dealt with the RVH for emergencies, well visits, blood work, X-rays, Dentals, scans, Eco's, Blood work etc and have always been pleased with their approach. Dr. Travis Cerf, who I now see regularly, is always very thoughtful, thorough and honest about what he suggests, but leaves final decisions to me. I never have trouble getting an appointment with him. At this point the other doctors, who have also been there for years, also know us and seem very approachable. I recommend everyone give the RVH a chance. They are clearly out for the health and best interest of our loved pets. At 13 years of age my dog is playful energetic and still acts like a puppy thanks to the RVH. Their ongoing research in the field of veterinary medicine is extraordinary. In addition, unlike other hospitals, their entire staff is properly certified and trained. That is something that I am willing to pay for! I am so pleased with Dr. Cerf. I have a 15 year old dog with congested heart failure and a collapsed trachea. I brought him in for a check up thinking that I would have to put him down but Dr. Cerf really paid attention to my dogs physical appearance in combination with his symptoms. He was compassionate and extremely informative. I could tell that he really wanted my husband and I to understand what we are dealing with. My dog still has some quality of life left with certain medications and Dr. Cerf said that he will monitor him closely to make sure that we do not let him suffer. I have read through many of the reviews on Yelp for RVH and am surprised by some, but agree w/ others. I have never once been talked to rudely by any of the staff or vets. My experience w/ this hospital goes back many years and several animals. I have always been greeted w/ a smile...some staff even come out and say Hi to my dog. In sad times, compassion has always been shown, right from the vet on down to the front desk. If a staff member doesn't handle themselves professionally, then I think the director needs to address this asap before clients are insulted and go elsewhere. The one thing I did agree w/ in some of the reviews was the extremely high cost of everything. Clients need to make choices for their pets just like people do for their children. If someone's wallet doesn't allow them to pay a high cost for a drug, then why not match what they can get elsewhere, rather than lose them as a client? Also, if you bring your pet for a shot and they are due for another w/in 1-3 mos, let them come back for the shot w/o hitting them up for another unnecessary exam. Most pet owners will let the vet know if they feel they may need them to check their pet over. RVH is more likely to keep clients if they give consideration to the fact that all people aren't loaded w/ money. They just want to care for their pets and be able to feel like they didn't just empty their wallet. I think the director and asst. director need to revamp the fee scale w/ some consideration for their clients. I know it's a business and they are in it to make money, but I believe there are changes that can be made to keep all parties satisfied. I must admit, I have considered going elsewhere myself b/c of the fees, but haven't jumped ship yet. Time will tell. read more

Great hospital. Very professional and understanding Docs. I was impressed with the knowledge of the support staff as well. I'm new in town and thank God I found this hospital, it's the best I've seen. The pricing seemed high, but when I checked at other Vets in the general area it was actually on the cheaper side. I would recommend them to anyone who wants the best care I've seen available. I have had 3 visits in the last 6 months to the facility and each time I'm impressed. read more

When my Malti-poo was chocking and throat rasping called Ridgewood Vet. told were booked would call back, when did not hear went down there and found office empty. They came back with a new Vet. who said she had an infection and prescribed $60. of antibiotics. No improvement after a couple of days, on third day my Malti-poo threw up a few times and finally up came a 1 1/2" long double foam-rubber for a person's toe covering. I PAID $300. for a wrong diagnoses of not infection but blockage of her throat. Requested refund ,said they would get back to me in a week, it is now 10 days, have never heard from them. Got in touch with my Visa and are investigating Ridgewood Vet. Manager: Keith Harris, Dr. Cerf, Vet.Loquto who took X-Ray saw a lump and said it was nothing They said they were now owned by a Corporation .
