Our first day in Venice, after roaming and bar hopping a few places, we decided to have dinner at a historic restaurant; Ristorante A La Vecia Cavana, Venice was a delightful experience for us. This historic establishment, open since 1912. Impressive decor and immaculately clean facility. We arrived at the restaurant and the was warmly greeted by our host who was very friendly and pleasant. He showed us to a table which was small & setting the tone for a truly enjoyable evening. We began our culinary adventure with two classic Bellinis and a simple yet satisfying offering of breadsticks with butter. For appetizers, we ordered a diverse selection from the menu, a mixed fried fish with fried vegetables platter, & heart of artichoke with mozzarella and truffles, and a refreshing spider crab salad. Our wine journey commenced with a bottle of Amarone Valpantena, a perfect companion to our starters. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the two plates of their seafood risotto. It was amazing and instantly became our instant favorite, a dish we'll long remember. At the host's excellent recommendation, we also savored a half bottle of Amarone Classico, which perfectly complemented the rich flavors of the risotto. We wrapped our evening with Our host recommended shots of limoncello and a few delightful house-made meringues. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our visit and left feeling super satisfied. Ristorante A La Vecia Cavana has undoubtedly become my forever favorite from my entire Italy trip. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Venice. read more

Very mixed experience. The servers were nice and welcoming. The food was not extraordinary but good, but the portions for some dishes were very small. The real disappointment came at the end when we waited for the bill for a very long time and a server we saw for the first time brought it and basically demanded a tip in a very direct and unceremonious way. Then we wait longer for them to bring the credit card machine over. The server comes back and reminds us again about the tip and asks how much we are leaving and how. Very uncomfortable. I was going to leave a tip without the insistent requests. Not appropriate, given the prices and self proclaimed status of the restaurant. Left with a bitter taste. Too bad because the servers who actually served us the food and looked after us were nice and warm. read more

One of the tastiest restaurants I've been to in the world! Such a lovely treat and hidden gem!! It was great to try Italian food especially Venetian style outside of pizza and pasta. Seafood is their speciality and everything we tried was absolutely amazing. We started with Benvenuti Malvazija white wine which went perfectly with all the seafood plates. Highlights included the spider crab salad, the Venetian style scampi (still dreaming about this), the rich flavor of their mussels, and the fish mousse was so original and fresh! Alex, one of the owners, walked us through each plate and it really was a fun journey through Venice via food. We loved the live piano while dinner and it was great to be around locals who were enjoying themselves. This will be the first place we come back to when we're back in Venice!! read more

The gluten free tiramisu was the best I've had since southern switzerland. Nice full amount of cream, smaller cake at the bottom not too sweet. It is twice as much money as the gluten-full ones around town... but it was worth it. Also had the GF meat ravioli, it's a smaller portion but really perfect and tasty. read more

I had an unfortunate dining experiences at this restaurant when I first arrived in Venice. Rumors had that this restaurant was good and passed down from father to son. And so I thought it must be good. I ordered mussels and clams in tomatoes broth. Most the clams were dead and mussels were overcooked chewy like rubber. My husband order squid ink tagliatelle for himself while I was booking a cooking class in Florence. The dish was 25 euros. The waiter split the dish in half(mind you very little just about 4 forkful per plate). It didn't taste good, overcooked-not el dente, and crunchy...lol. Anyway the bill came out very pricey especially the restaurant charges me 50 euros for the squid ink tagliatelle. That a F**king rip off and scam services. read more

Truly an amazing and authentic Italian restaurant that provides excellent service and incredible cuisine. I love going to a restaurant that goes out of their way to make a lasting impression. As soon as we were seated, we were provided an aperitif. Our appetizers came out quickly and were very delicious. The entrees were prepared perfectly and though we didn't order dessert, they still provided a complimentary in-house made limoncello and a small assortment of mini desserts. For entrees, we had sea bass and vegetable ravioli. For dessert, we had a smorgasbord of food, featuring zabaione, limoncello shots, Italian cookies, and a slice of cake. What drew us in is the hundreds (thousands?) of bottles of wine lining the walls, basically a relocated wine cellar. We figured we couldn't go wrong and we were right. Our first clue were the complimentary mimosas that arrived at our table moments after we are seated. Their menu is extensive and took more than a few minutes to digest. Many tempting seafood, meat and vegetarian selections, but when the waiter came back for the third time, we knew choices had to be made. The scampi sauer started the show and set a high bar for everything to follow. Then I had spaghetti vongole (clams) and my BB went for linguini with cuttlefish in cuttlefish ink sauce which he claimed was delicious but I'll never know because it's against my religion ! We found this authentic, delicious place after wandering through the streets. It was 12:30, and we were greeted promptly with complimentary Bellinis as we sat down for lunch. We shared a caprese salad, I had the taglitelli with vegetables, and my husband had the lasagne. All were amazing - the pasta was made fresh. We watched as many Italians came in to eat, and they were greeted as family. The best part of the meal was my dessert - simply called merengue, there was nothing simple about it. If I could leave this restaurant a lower rating I would. We asked for water the instant we sat down and did not receive it the entire time. We ordered the cod mousse with polenta and truffle penne. The cod mousse had no flavor, and the polenta was dripping oil. The truffle penne was flavorless, we had bitten into an entire shaved truffle, it tasted like absolutely nothing. All dishes we received were clearly microwaved and flavorless. We paid for 30 dollar wine and basically received a bottle of vinegar. When we asked for the check early, we tried to be polite without directly saying what our issue is, after being hassled we indicated the food was lackluster. Since we left early, they did not charge us for the meals we had ordered but had not received yet. This was their only redeemable quality. As we were paying for our food we were asked where we were from. After indicating we were from the United States the waiter tsks and says "americani" in a spiteful manner. Rather than blaming their microwave chef and their tourist lunchable dinner, they blamed our nationality. If you like flavorless food and childish service, look no further, this is the place for you. read more

Absolutely wonderful dining experience from start (complementary welcome drink) through an outstanding meal to finish (complementary limoncello). The restaurant cannot be beat if you are dining with someone looking for gluten free options. Virtually the entire menu was available with a gluten free alternative, from the bowl of bread, to all of the pastas (except the gnocchi), to the tiramisu at desert. Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. We had the gluten free spaghetti scampi and gnocchi (not gluten free), the bronzino, and the sea bream, along with the gluten free tiramisu. The best of the best! Authentic Italian food, you are welcomed with a glass of mimosa on the house, and at the end Limoncello also on the house. The service is top notch! Nazareno was our server on the first night and he was so attentive, patient, and kind we decided to come back for the rest of our trip to continue to try different dishes. All of their severs are super kind and attentive, very different to the treatment you will expect in Italy, we were in Rome and Florence before and the service leaves a lot to desire, but not at la Vecia Cavana. We walked over 20 twenty minutes to get to this restaurant and really wanted to try the food here. But the waiters here are very rude, refused to provide any service and said there is no table for us. We are only a three people party. The have one table available and another one to be ready soon. One reason they are very rude could be because we are tourists or because we are Asian. Please be cautious of this place! This restaurant is off the main drag in Venice, but for the gluten free diner, it is worth the search. Their gluten free menu includes home made pasta that is fresh and delicious. I had the grilled lobster and it was so delicious. We were there for a while catching up with eachother, they brought us complimentary Limoncello & Grappa (after dinner liquor). Our first day in Venice, and , we found this gem of a restaurant. Hospitality explodes from the servers and the atmosphere is romantic in a redone old boat house! We were served a Bellini to start as we read the menu, there are many choices!! They specialize in seafood pasta dishes, so, when in Rome...I had the scampi spaghetti. He had wild mushroom linguini with garlic white sauce, delicious. We ended with limoncello on the house, and small cookies, the chocolate mouse cake was also a hit. Come. Eat. We were given a fantastic tip by a tour guide from the area to try the small restaurant. She said that they would have great gluten-free options, and they certainly did! My whole family got first courses, and I enjoyed a fantastic spicy marinara-type shrimp pasta special. My, it was fantastic. wanted to try one of Venice's signature dishes cuttlefish with black ink and polenta and this place delivered! the seared tuna was also delicious. we didn't have a reservation and the place was packed. the owner was apologetic and managed to seat us in 15 minutes. he also sent over a complimentary bowl of cherries on ice, a dish of cookies and limonchello for each of us. attentive service, soft piano in the background and owner that wants to assure you have a good dining experience. the meal for 3 (3 cocktails, a litre of bottled water, 2 appetizers, 3 entrées, 1 dessert and 2 coffees) totaled 140 euros. that even included the service charge. worth a stop! read more

On the recommendation of the desk clerk at our hotel we went to this restaurant. The service was outstanding as was the food. The marinated sardines were terrific. The pasta dishes were cooked to perfection. The only regret is that we ate there on our last night in Venice. Wish we found this restaurant earlier during our stay. read more
