This is a tiny shop, but it is PACKED with botanicals. The shopkeeper was friendly and quite knowledgeable, but he wasn't wearing a mask and this was a few days to a week before the mask mandate ended in Chicago (February 28, 2022) and I'm already a bit wary so I headed out. I'm not sure if that was on purpose or he didn't realize, but it was getting a little crowded in the store for me anyway so probably would have been ready to leave regardless. There are lots of plants, and my understanding is that not everything is on display since they're short on space in the main area of the shop. They have a nice collection of orchids, too; I actually considered getting one, but changed my mind. For some reason I think of them as being somewhat... difficult, or needing more attention (whether that's true or not I'm not sure), and I have enough responsibilities with the plants I already own (especially one of my calatheas that's being a bit of a drama queen at the moment!). I may have to try my hand at an orchid sometime, though. The aforementioned shopkeep gave me a huge boost of confidence that I could. In our discussion he mentioned the crucial point that orchids are just plants that flower more often than other botanical houseplants folks might keep, even though many green houseplants may flower under the right conditions. Once an orchid stops flowering, they're still plants without the flowers for you to care for. Food for thought! They also have a shop pet, which was a surprise! I don't like lizards, but luckily this one was in an enclosure. I was a bit startled, though, so be forewarned that the little guy is hanging out in his plexiglass home--he won't hurt you, since you won't be able to touch him, but I as I said, I was surprised! They don't have a huge collection of pots, but the plants all looked lovely and healthy. They have some popular favorites, but it also seemed they had some more unusual and harder to find plants. They have displays for live plant walls for which you can consult with them to install in your home or office, too, if you wish. Parking on this stretch of Damen is touch and go, and it's paid, so plan accordingly. read more

I love Vedas Plant shop! Jeff is unbelievably knowledgeable and helped educate me on how to properly care for plants- a huge feat which he will tell you first hand. He put the two beautiful centerpieces for me together (pictures below), repotted a few of my plants and brought them back to life and helped me decorate my mantle. Highly recommend!!!! read more

I visited Vedas Plant Shop today and was blown away by how much time and care the shop owner, Jeff, put into our purchase! He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about all things plants and plant care, and helped us find exactly what we wanted based on what types of plants we were interested in, and our apartment's environment. The shop is so quaint and cool, and there are a lot more plants available than just the ones on display. On more than one occasion Jeff was able to find the same type of plant we wanted or something similar elsewhere in the store. He has a wide variety of plants, including some super rare (and valuable) tropical plants. He spent a long time with us getting our monstera's support prepared (he attached coco liners to a bamboo stick), and chatted with us about plant care, the city, and so much more while we waited. You can count on receiving the most thoughtful attention when you are in Vedas Plant Shop, and Jeff offered to answer any questions via text or source plants we were interested in finding if we just sent him a picture! He kindly threw in a "surprise" baby plant that we will eagerly await discovering its adult form. Needless to say I am so glad we visited Vedas Plant Shop today, and you should too!! Really awesome plant shop, one of the best ones i've been to in Chicago in terms of variety. The space is awesome with lots of plants occupying vertical and horizontal space - reminded me of the 'indoor jungle' vibe many plant owners try to achieve. The owner was awesome, and gave me good advice on how to care for the plants i bought. They also carry rare plants which is great because it's way more convenient than ordering online. The quality of the plants is top notch, the prices are fair, and if you have any issues just reach out to them and they will help. They even replaced a plant I was having some issues with. Jeff is so knowledgeable about all of the plants he brings in. I love that he has products available for any new plant parent to have successful growth. He has lots of gems in his shop. Very personable, very reasonable prices. This is def my go-to plant shop for all necessities. Also, he sells sphagnum moss! Something I have yet to find in other shops. What a neighborhood gem this is. There is something a little magical being here around so many beautiful plants and the owner (Jeff) and staff are incredibly knowledgeable. We've bought several plants and my son (he is 8) did a private terrarium workshop with Jeff after-hours. My son is really proud to have something so cool and he told me he wished he had Jeff as his science teacher. Jeff spent over 2 hrs with him, taught him so much about plants, rain, and what bugs do to help, and even put some tiny bugs in, plus he was super patient (and funny). There is also a ghost mantis in one of the terrariums, and a chameleon, which is just neat to see. Can't recommend enough! read more

This shop is extremely well kept and the plants are thriving far more than any other shop I have visited in Chicago. I love that they have have humidifiers and sun lamps plus the thoughtful watering is why the plants really thrive here. That said, I knocked one star for the high pressures sales tactics the owner uses to try to sell you anything and everything in his shop. I'm the type that needs to walk around by myself and absorb the energy of the place and plants. I like buying plants that I feel an energetic bond with but because he was so on me the entire time I was in there, I ended up buying a plant he pushed on me that I didn't feel a bond with and now have some mild contempt every time I look at the plant inside my home. They have a good variety and all very well taken care of but you guys need to leave the customer alone to make their own minds about what they want instead pressuring them to buy. read more
