I've been here twice so far, it's a very central emergency pet hospital for when your pet is ill. Just so you know, it appears to be a more modern and pricey place. I recommend you obtain pet insurance. Both times I've been here it was after hours and our vet was unavailable. The nice part about this place is that it's open concept and they try to include you as much as they can in the care process. If your pet is kept overnight there are some options of staying the night with your pet, which is wonderful. Our first time here our dog stopped eating and drinking, we did most of the tests but opted out of hospitalization since the price was steep. I think we spend about 3,000 +, our second time here we opted out of testing and got emergency IV + nausea meds for a little less than $ 600. They are transparent with pricing and if needed you can opt out of things and advocate for what you need based on the severity of the situation. Pets are family. They have taken great care of our pup Cleo!

I found this ER vet during a personal emergency Nobody else was available on a weekend The person I met on the phone was warm and welcoming totally understood my needs He told me to come immediately We will take care of this I drove straight there, which was close to my home Sat in the parking lot for a moment to collect my thoughts Walked in immediately greeted by two employees Invited into a private room Most of the hospital was a big open room Open and welcoming Dogs able to socialize with each other All of the minor injuries on tables in the main room keeping patients comfortable Dogs like to be around other dogs Not trapped in isolated rooms I'm sure there are plenty of surgical rooms and private rooms out of sight I was saying goodbye to my best friend of 16 years Everyone was so sweet and comforting Took as long as I needed before during and after Today I got a beautiful sympathy card with paw prints and nose prints Can't recommend highly enough

I came in with my 7 year old border collie in the middle of the night after she was attacked by multiple dogs. They performed a 6 hour surgery and comforted both of us as much as they could. They saved my dogs life and I will forever be grateful to everyone who works there. They told me to call or come in anytime if I had concerns. It's still a long journey ahead of us but I'm thankful to know they're only a drive away. Some of the doctors even stayed longer than usual to watch her wake up from surgery. Rosie and I will forever be grateful for the entire team who works here.

Not how I had planned on spending my Super Bowl Sunday but you know, sh*t happens. If you live in San Diego and have any pet emergencies I can't recommend VEG in Mission Valley high enough. My lab swallowed a sewing needle and Instead of spending the $4k quoted at the La mesa vet ER with a 5 hour wait, VEG saved the day and my River for just under $1k and triaged her right away. We were in and out in under and hour and now I get to enjoy the game with my girl, thank god!

I honestly wish I could give this place 0 stars. I brought my cat in expecting professional, clean, and attentive care--especially for an emergency vet--and instead had one of the most uncomfortable and frustrating experiences. First off, the hygiene was extremely concerning. I saw staff using their personal phones with the same gloves they were using to handle animals, including my cat. No one was washing their hands or wearing face masks on a procedure where there are open wounds. At one point, I even witnessed a glove fall on the FLOOR, get picked up, and then used on another pet. That alone is completely unacceptable. On top of that, I waited nearly 3 hours for what should have been a simple 10-minute procedure. There was zero communication during that time. A doctor briefly diagnosed my cat, but after that, I had no idea who was actually treating him. No one introduced themselves, explained their role, or gave me any clarity on who was handling my pet. That lack of transparency is really unsettling when it comes to your animal's care. I do appreciate that the staff seemed to care about the animals, but for nearly $800, I expected a much higher standard--especially proper hygiene and treatment from a qualified doctor throughout the process. Overall, this experience left me feeling uneasy and disappointed. I would not feel comfortable bringing my pet back here.

I brought my bearded dragon in on a Sunday after she ingested a foil candy wrapper, and we are incredibly grateful for the care she received from the entire staff. Dr. Lance Day was outstanding. He spoke with me twice over the phone before we arrived, answered all of my questions, offered reassurance, and even provided a general cost estimate. What stood out to me most was although he doesn't specialize in reptiles, he was very innovative and did some quick research and figured out what to do on the spot, saving my lizard. He was very creative in his problem-solving. He created a tool using available equipment (tubes, tweezers, medical tape). He measured the x ray where it showed the roil wrapper and then put measurement marks in the tool, and although they didn't have a scope camera small enough- Dr Day was able to get the foil out ( with no camera) -- he used the x-ray photo, measurements, and felt around on my lizards abdomen and was able to safely extract the foil, blindly, with no camera guiding him. This avoided my bearded dragon needing surgery. His focus, care, and attention to detail made me feel completely confident in his treatment. Thanks to him, my bearded dragon was treated successfully and discharged the same day. While there was a longer wait due to ER triage, the outcome and quality of care mattered most, and I am very thankful to the entire team.

    THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME!!!

Came here late last night with a 5-year-old rottweiler, who is not a fan of coming to the vets office, especially to a location he's never been to before. He was suffering from a uti. I have never been to this practice before, but I was very impressed. My niece, who is a vet.Tech actually recommended this business. Previously I went to a place in poway for any after hours, care for my dog..., but the doctor was very cold in the way she treated my dog. This place understands pet owners, especially people who treat their dogs like their kids with fur. They let you be with them the whole time, every step of the way. I have never, ever experienced this before at any other practice. Much appreciated and Roman says THANK YOU for helping me get better!

My dog passed away at home last week. I was recommended by a friend to come here for his cremation. The moment I walked in my mom and I were greeted right away. Our nurse showed us kindness and empathy. They took us in immediately and she was so sweet to my baby. Thank you for your help in such a sad time. I received my dogs hair clipping and stamps of his nose and paw in the mail today. Thank you for your kindness

The surgery was technically challenging for a variety of reasons (senior dog, bilateral masses) but she kept us closely updated and I felt confident knowing that she was doing everything possible to keep our pup safe. The surgery was technically successful and our dog recovered quickly with minimal pain. Extra shout out to RVT Kimberly who helped me get my dog into the car and went over the discharge instructions in great detail. As mentioned in other reviews, you will pay a substantial premium to come here compared to a local veterinarian. In our case, I do believe it was worth it to get the very best in subspecialty care. Thank you Dr. Sartor and staff for helping our evergreen pup.

This place is a fraud, racket and a scam. They are dangerous, incompetent, sloppy, and a horrible…read morerepresentation of the veterinarian community. An embarrassment to their profession. It's obvious they are all about revenue and do NOT advocate for your pet. I'm guessing they are awarded commission for every pet they can quickly extinguish, to make room for the moneymaking surgical patients in the waiting room. We paid $3,500 plus $500 for them to care for our very sick baby girl, and they left her to LITERALLY bleed to death in her cage. She came into this "hospital" at 5:00pm June 4. She was in shock. Barely alive. It came on suddenly and we had no idea what had happened. They started out good. They did fluid resuscitation and she came back. Her eyes were open. She was breathing easy. She had purposeful movement. We were grateful, we had hope. But then it became a nightmare. They suspected she had internal bleeding of some sort since she was extremely anemic. Or maybe cancer? They needed to do an abdominal ultrasound to correctly diagnose her..and start appropriate treatment. The remote radiologist that read her X-rays said an ultrasound would help to diagnose a "hazy" appearance across her abdomen. We were ready to give them more money! Just save our precious baby. And then we were told THEY HAVE NO IN-HOUSE ABILITY TO DO AN EMERGENCY ULTRASOUND. We were told it couldn't be done until after 3:00pm the next day. That's when a radiologist comes in everyday and does all the ultrasounds ordered. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! How did they pass accreditation for an emergency facility? It's criminal. Our companion, our best friend was bleeding somewhere and they thought it was ok to wait another 17 hours until an outside radiologist comes around. Well, it wasn't ok and she didn't make it. She was put into a cage surrounded by dogs. (She's terrified of them. She's an indoor cat her entire life). Had a plastic head cone put on. Loaded her up on barbiturates because they thought they saw "seizures".... And then forgot to give my grossly anemic baby any supplemental oxygen and IGNORED her dramatic drops in her labs. And also ignored her blood sugar of 345-450 and her very abnormal blood gas. It was obvious at 3:00am on June 5, that she needed a blood transfusion and immediate diagnostic intervention. Maybe even surgical intervention. But there is nothing on her chart that indicates the veterinarians in the hospital were notified. In fact, I'm not even sure there were any doctors in there during the night. I was at her bedside from 1:00am to about 2:30am and I never saw a doctor anywhere. In fact I never met the nurse or whoever it was that was taking "care" of her. I have a gut feeling there were mostly unlicensed staff running that facility. The charting is horrific and barely legible. She continued to lose blood somewhere. Her labs clearly showed she was dying, as they became progressively worse throughout the night. And no doctor came to help her. And the person caring for her thought it was a good idea to assess a patient in acute shock every 6 hours. Obviously they never touched her abdomen because when she finally crashed at 1000am, the doctor described her abdomen as distended, tight and painful. I guarantee this is NOT standard protocol. A patient this sick needed assessments every 1-2 hours. WE When the AM came, Dr Chen halfway assessed her and then messaged my son at 0800 with a positive report. "Her pupils are normal. She looks much better. She's ok to go see her veterinarian" Evidently she missed the labs that showed critically low levels of hemoglobin carrying cells. Which means she was laying there with a belly full of blood. And according to the other labs, every organ was struggling. Two hours later she goes into respiratory arrest and is DEAD. Every body, humans and animals need oxygen carrying cells so our organs don't suffer injury. She died from negligence, failure to diagnose her in a timely manner and incompetence. This place falsely represents itself. It is NOT a full service emergency facility. They do not have the in-house diagnostic equipment to rapidly diagnose and treat. They never did a urinalysis on her either, because they don't have a machine. "It needs to get sent out". A urinalysis is part of almost every initial workup. It is a very important diagnostic tool that is not too difficult to do...yet it can tell you a lot about almost every system. I have not stopped crying. It feels like a nightmare. We are all traumatized and still in shock. Shame on both VCA and Mars Inc. (Yes, the candy bar people own this chain of sh*tty animal hospitals) They have profits in the billions! Surely they can afford appropriate diagnostic equipment for their "emergency pet hospital." And maybe pay for some extra licensed personnel. From the reviews, it looks like they make it a habit of giving substandard care. What a shame. Save your pets lives and keep them away from here.

I've heard about some Veterinarians who tend to pad their bills with extra services and items, but until this visit I hadn't really experienced it. We brought our older (and basically healthy) dog in today because she was sick on Thursday (vomiting food & water). She felt better on Friday and today, but we brought her in anyway to get checked out. Cue the huge bill! The original estimate on the high side was $1300, and we had them lower that estimate by a few $100 by removing a couple of services including xrays. Then after she'd been there for a few hours, they indicated that she needed more tests to the tune of nearly $1000. We had them do most of them, but not all. As I'm writing this on Sunday, Cali is feeling much better, she's now on a low-fat diet, and the tests that they did all turned out negative. (We're still waiting on the results of the urinalysis.) Thank goodness, but jeez... They also negatively impacted my bank account. I'm glad my dog is feeling better, and she's worth any cost honestly, but I sincerely feel that some of things they did were not necessary, and didn't need to be done this time, or could have been pushed forward and a determination about their necessity could've been made after we made some changes and monitored her. It is what it is at this point, but I just suggest that you pay close attention to the estimates and bills at this Vet Hospital, and knowing your pet, make the right decisions for them, whatever they may be. Mahalo.
