The day finally came that we needed to take our Pom to the ER for an injury and I was panicking not knowing where to go in the middle of the night. We made the call to VEG and they gave us excellent advice over the phone and the team greeted us at 4am. They were in the best of spirits even though we were a mess and our poor dog was seizing in pain. Dr.Day and the team were absolutely amazing!! They helped us remain calm and made a quick action plan. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful and the staff really makes VEG what it is! Thank you!! Ironically I've spent the past 5 years designing veterinary clinics and specialty hospitals, and the owners had a strong desire to maintain the separation from public facing to the treatment areas. I must say as someone experiencing having a pet emergency, being able to be in the open treatment area was the reason we felt so satisfied with the care. We were visually connected to our baby boy and got to be a part of every step of his treatments. It made us feel at ease, and felt entirely different (in the best way) than we've ever had at other veterinary practices. This review is long overdue, and I sincerely apologize for not writing it sooner--but it comes with the deepest gratitude. In the beginning of March, on a Thursday, I noticed my cat wasn't acting like himself. He was trying to urinate near the litter box but just stood there, almost statue-like. I knew something was wrong and immediately started making calls. I ended up at VEG, and from the moment I walked in, I was met with kindness, compassion, and professionalism. The entire staff was welcoming and supportive during a very stressful moment. They took the time to listen, assess my cat, and explain my options clearly. What truly stood out to me was how much they genuinely cared--not just about my pet, but about me as well. I cannot give enough credit to Dr. Batiari, who went above and beyond to help me. Not only did they provide guidance on my cat's condition, but they also took the extra step to connect me with the right clinic based on what I could afford. That level of compassion and advocacy is rare, and I will never forget it. I understand the load on their shoulders so I want to be fair because what they see on a routine basis is mentally and physically exhausting. I am being very generous with the 4 star rating because I really felt like hitting a 3. I do like that the facility is open concept so you get triaged in the middle of the room. It looks like Costco if you laid medical beds everywhere. I do appreciate the transparency but I wasn't impressed by all the inappropriate crosstalk I was picking up on amongst the vet techs. They weren't very mindful of concerned pet parent perception or even young kids. I saw one person come out of the surgery room behind a saloon door and they were joking around while showing off all the animal blood sprayed across their PPE. Not only did it look macabre but I also watched them degown then wander over to offer people snacks and water without washing their hands. My personal pet experience was exhausting but not terribly notable since I was only there for after hours urgent care needs. Just note that it's like a human ER--expect to spend all night out. I got in at 5pm and was discharged close to 11pm then I stood up watching my cat recover from sedation so I had to call off from work. It is what it is so be prepared. Overall, I trust the integrity of the facility but I just feel sorry for how burnt out and tired everyone looked. The Dr. (I don't want to smear their name) and all the techs were functionally performing... but they spoke like that sped up robot voice narrating the fine print on a medical commercial. I guess this is a sign to help out with staffing or offer wellness benefits so these people can meditate and get some rest. read more

I came in with my 7 year old border collie in the middle of the night after she was attacked by multiple dogs. They performed a 6 hour surgery and comforted both of us as much as they could. They saved my dogs life and I will forever be grateful to everyone who works there. They told me to call or come in anytime if I had concerns. I've been here twice so far, it's a very central emergency pet hospital for when your pet is ill. Just so you know, it appears to be a more modern and pricey place. I recommend you obtain pet insurance. Both times I've been here it was after hours and our vet was unavailable. The nice part about this place is that it's open concept and they try to include you as much as they can in the care process. If your pet is kept overnight there are some options of staying the night with your pet, which is wonderful. Our first time here our dog stopped eating and drinking, we did most of the tests but opted out of hospitalization since the price was steep. I think we spend about 3,000 +, our second time here we opted out of testing and got emergency IV + nausea meds for a little less than $ 600. They are transparent with pricing and if needed you can opt out of things and advocate for what you need based on the severity of the situation. Pets are family. went in because my dog had a foreign object stuck in her. I literally can't say enough wonderful things about this staff. Our dog is our family member and they treated her as if she was there's too. Dr. Serafin was amazing. She went over options and we decided on surgery. Before that the staff kept our dog, coco, comfortable and I was able to be with her the entire time! I was able to watch the surgery as well but I chose not to and the staff talked me through the entire surgery, after she was done and about an hour after surgery they brought her into the room where I was sleeping, yes you can stay over night there! And she slept with me hooked up to her IV and all. I LOVE this concept. I truly think this helps our animal heal so much more quickly. I've never seen anything like this but for a dog like ours who is extremely sensitive and attached to her family this was the greatest thing for her. My kids came the next day and she immediately ate her food she hadn't wanted to eat in days. Since we had been there over night Dr. Day was amazing as well and helped us to get coco home. This is the BEST place to get true CARE for you animals. I could not recommend them more. I wish this could be coco's primary vet. I'm going to come back and write specific names on here of who helped me and coco because you there were multiple people that treated us like family. Wow, how do I give this place 10 stars? I brought my dog in earlier today because he was limping and my primary vet was booked until next week. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left both my dog and I were very taken care of. Every tech and vet was so reassuring and compassionate. Before any procedures began a tech had explained all of the costs and procedures. She didn't pressure me to agree to any procedure or medications and even suggested that I can refuse any procedure, medication, or even talk to the doctor for an alternative. My dog was seen by Dr. Small and she was so great I wish she was our primary vet. Never did I once feel like I was being rushed. She took her time to explain everything to me and even asked multiple times if I had any questions and made me feel like my dog was her only patient. I'm praying that I never have to come back, but if my dog had another emergency, I would bring him here. read more

I honestly wish I could give this place 0 stars. I brought my cat in expecting professional, clean, and attentive care--especially for an emergency vet--and instead had one of the most uncomfortable and frustrating experiences. First off, the hygiene was extremely concerning. I saw staff using their personal phones with the same gloves they were using to handle animals, including my cat. No one was washing their hands or wearing face masks on a procedure where there are open wounds. At one point, I even witnessed a glove fall on the FLOOR, get picked up, and then used on another pet. That alone is completely unacceptable. On top of that, I waited nearly 3 hours for what should have been a simple 10-minute procedure. There was zero communication during that time. A doctor briefly diagnosed my cat, but after that, I had no idea who was actually treating him. No one introduced themselves, explained their role, or gave me any clarity on who was handling my pet. That lack of transparency is really unsettling when it comes to your animal's care. I do appreciate that the staff seemed to care about the animals, but for nearly $800, I expected a much higher standard--especially proper hygiene and treatment from a qualified doctor throughout the process. Overall, this experience left me feeling uneasy and disappointed. I would not feel comfortable bringing my pet back here. read more

About a year ago, I unexpectedly lost my sweet dog, Honeybear. Earlier that day, her vet told us she was bleeding internally and there was nothing they could do. After taking her home so our family could say their goodbyes, I called a few local vets for another opinion. This clinic called me back right away and told us to come in. Although we received the same heartbreaking news, the staff that night made all the difference. They were incredibly kind, compassionate, and understanding. They gave us as much time as we needed and complete privacy to be with Honeybear in her final moments. I can't recommend this place enough. I brought my bearded dragon in on a Sunday after she ingested a foil candy wrapper, and we are incredibly grateful for the care she received from the entire staff. Dr. Lance Day was outstanding. He spoke with me twice over the phone before we arrived, answered all of my questions, offered reassurance, and even provided a general cost estimate. What stood out to me most was although he doesn't specialize in reptiles, he was very innovative and did some quick research and figured out what to do on the spot, saving my lizard. He was very creative in his problem-solving. He created a tool using available equipment (tubes, tweezers, medical tape). He measured the x ray where it showed the roil wrapper and then put measurement marks in the tool, and although they didn't have a scope camera small enough- Dr Day was able to get the foil out ( with no camera) -- he used the x-ray photo, measurements, and felt around on my lizards abdomen and was able to safely extract the foil, blindly, with no camera guiding him. This avoided my bearded dragon needing surgery. His focus, care, and attention to detail made me feel completely confident in his treatment. Thanks to him, my bearded dragon was treated successfully and discharged the same day. While there was a longer wait due to ER triage, the outcome and quality of care mattered most, and I am very thankful to the entire team. read more

I have never been to this practice before, but I was very impressed.My niece, who is a vet.Tech actually recommended this business. we had to take our pup to VEG when he woke us up in the middle of the night barking, jumping off & on the bed and aggressively scratching at both of his ears as if something was stuck inside. We took him out to potty thinking he'd calm down, but the way he was tilting his head to one side was a telltale sign that something was wrong and we couldn't go back to sleep. This was our first time having to take him to VEG & the doctors / staff were AMAZING. They were about to go into surgery with another pup but took us in immediately to examine him. I honestly felt silly after seeing other patients in there who were in more dire situations than us, but the staff made us feel so welcome and not crazy for coming in. Prone to ear infections, they prescribed us the necessary medication / ear wash & sent us home. The even texted the next day to follow up & to make sure he was doing OK. Wow! I've had pets for three decades and veterinary emergency group/VEG blew all of my experiences out of the water. The staff all went out of their way to be kind and attentive to me and my dog Pumpkin! One staff member even got me water and offered me snacks as I was sitting in a beautiful lobby waiting. The open concept is so incredible! The staff encourage pet parents to stay with their animals the entire time they are getting care! I've never seen anything like it! I was even told that if your pet is hospitalized overnight, you can sleep in a room with your pet, and they even have pull out beds! Wow! I can't say enough about the wonderful facility. The staff and experience veterinarians there are incredibly caring and willing to go the extra mile to save your pet. They saved my foster kitten after she contracted pneumonia from aspirating during her spay earlier. She was highly critical and unable to breathe. They took her immediately, ultrasound her and placed in an oxygen chamber for the night. They also called the shelter to let them know her condition and treatment. I had the best experience possible while dealing with a scary pet emergency. This place is really unique in that you're right in the treatment area with your pet the whole time and can be part of the whole process. My dog had to stay in overnight hospitalization for a possible toxin exposure and I was distraught. I was so worried about him and nervous to have to leave him, and the staff assured me I was welcome to stay the whole night if I wanted. This was super comforting and although I opted to leave for a bit, multiple staff members reassured me that I was welcome to come back at any time throughout the night if I wanted. This small gesture of just making me feel welcome to come back at any time was really important to me. Everyone was so nice and warm, I felt comfortable with my baby in their care. Was sent here by Pet emergency and specialty center in La Mesa. Once we arrived here, we were checked in and my cat was being examined right away which was refreshing because we were waiting around 15 min at the previous center just to be triaged. Everyone was welcoming and took great care of my kitty. We were concerned of a urinary blockage since he was showing signs of pain. Dr did an ultrasound and everything looked clear. I was then texted an estimate for further testing which we decided to postpone since ultrasound showed no blockage and there were no emergent signs as of that moment. My partner and I were instantly relieved and when we got home, our baby had the zoomies and was eating and playing normally. Overall, we just had to pay the $200 exam fee which was worth it for the ultrasound and timely care. Will definitely be coming straight here next time! Staff was great, I didn't not feel pressured to do any further testing. Everyone was transparent and friendly. I definitely recommend coming here. Thank you!! read more

Probably the best experience I've ever had with animal care. I went in with a friend for her cat that referred here by his primary care physician for liquid in his abdomen. Came in this Past Sunday, October 26, 2025. Im still processing the lack of empathy and professionalism from this place. Let me tell you guys my experience so this doesn't happen to anyone, please please always ask for a second opinion if you feel something is off, this are our fur babies not money sign!! When I arrived, I gave them Zeus's vaccine card -- they confirmed he was up to date. They took his temperature and did a parvo test (anal swab). The first test came back positive, and they offered this option Hospitalize him and start treatment asap with a quote of $6,000-$13,000 with no survival guarantee. I declined it -- I doubted the result and found it odd how fast they pushed treatment. I asked to discharge Zeus to take him to TJ instead. As I was leaving, the nurse practitioner said they ran a second test -- this one was negative. ???? Huh??? Like why!??? And they still charge me $300 leaving me worst than When I arrived. read more

From the minute I carried my cat into the er, there was someone at the door helping me in and had a gurney ready for him. I had two technicians immediately handling my cat to see what was going on. This is the place you want to bring your baby in an emergency. I never left his side and was with him through the entire process. The vet drs and technicians complimented how handsome my baby was and for some reason that made everything feel better especially the seriousness of it all.
