My sweet, senior, ginger idiot, Ziggy.
    Dianne H.

I was recently opening an Amazon package and clipped a 4" by 1/2" piece off the end of a sealed plastic bag to get the item out. My sweet idiot of a senior ginger cat pounced on the plastic piece and swallowed it immediately. I got his mouth open just in time to see it disappear down his throat. He might have been able to barf it up on his own, but we were leaving town early the next morning and I wanted it dealt with ASAP and I know foreign bodies can be dangerous for cats. I was taking no chances. The new Torrance VEG ER is much closer to us than ACCESS and reviews were favorable, so off we went. I had called ahead and they were expecting us. I like their big open work area. I was able to stay with my cat, which I prefer and you can't do with a lot of vets. The issue and options were explained clearly and I was asked to pay up front. I understand why they do this and I had no problem with it. We were placed in a private treatment room and medicine was given to make him vomit. He successfully produced the offending piece of plastic in a short period of time. They gave him medication to reverse the first one, as well as some fluids for support. We were in and out in about an hour. The facility was clean. The staff were professional, skilled, friendly, and supportive. He did very well with the treatment. They will be my first choice the next time I have a cat emergency. I highly recommend them. My cat insurance covered 90%of the bill, so I was grateful to have it. Thanks to all the staff for a job well done.

Our little guy hurt his leg and it was very easy to call and make a same day appointment. We got paperwork texted which streamlined the check in process. Zero wait when we arrived. Quickly seen and assessed by the vet, who seemed knowledgeable and capable. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Even has complementary water and snacks. We got our lab tests and meds in a timely manner and were off within an hour!

I've never been to an emergency vet before today. My bunny broke his arm. I was frantic. I felt better as soon as I called. I was put on the phone with a doctor immediately. When I arrived I was treated with as much care as my animal. The staff was beyond helpful. They are so friendly and you can see they like each other. The environment is peaceful and the teamwork is evident. A huge shout out to the ladies that sedated him and took his X-rays. The doctors were compassionate and amazing. I hope to never come back but if I do I know I'll be in good hands and my animals will too.

My Green Cheek Conure was lethargic and not really moving. Not really opening her eyes. I took here and from the moment I arrived everyone was so amazing and sympathetic. I ultimately had to make the heart wrenching decision to say goodbye to my little girl. The doctor gave me a hug as I left. I would absolutely recommend VEG. Thank you for being there for my Greenie.

Thank you Dr. Khan and vet technicians for taking care of my senior bunny, Ruby. My baby girl was treated promptly for gi stasis.

I want to thank Dr. Khan and the vet technicians for taking care of my 7 year old bunny, Ruby. I took my bunny to get checked because she had no appetite and low energy. After a thorough examination and testing, Dr. Khan diagnosed her with GI stasis. I was given medication and a treatment plan to follow at home. It's been a week since the ER visit and Ruby is back to normal.

I was willing to accept high prices because I care about my dogs. Today, I went to get a simple nail trim and heartworm test to continue our flea and heartworm medication. I paid for the dogs services took them home and when I got home, realized that two of my dogs nails were obviously cut below the quick. I was very concerned about this because the reason I pay $40 for a nail trim is so that they can be done right and no one mentioned to me that anything had happened. I called to ask if they had noticed if something had happened to my dog and was told yes that they'd cut it. It had bled. They stopped the bleeding and it should be OK which NOBODY told me when I checked out. When I told them that they should've said something and I'd like a discount for my service today (which was total over $500 by the way) they told me no. I will not be back to this place because honestly if you can't trust someone to do a nail trim or at least let you know when something went wrong. I would not trust them with bigger things.

NEVER COME HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER CHOICE…read more We brought our toy poodle to ACCESS Animal Hospital because I suspected he was having a pancreatitis flare-up. We were scared and wanted help as quickly as possible. Instead, we felt like we walked into a business that saw our fear as an opportunity. Before discussing a reasonable treatment plan, we were charged over $1,300 for diagnostics (X-rays, ultrasound, bloodwork, etc.). After all of that, we were told he needed to be hospitalized for 24-48 hours at an estimated cost of $4,800-$6,100. We were devastated. Fortunately, we called a friend who works at Orange County Animal Hospital and immediately transferred our dog there. The difference was unbelievable. Their staff was compassionate, moved much faster, and took a thoughtful, measured approach that balanced what our dog actually needed with the financial reality every pet owner faces. Our dog was successfully treated overnight, and the total bill was about $1,400. We were also told the same diagnostic workup would have cost around $500 there instead of the $1,300 we had already paid. That experience made it impossible not to wonder whether ACCESS's recommendations were driven by what was best for our dog--or by what would generate the biggest bill. As a pet owner, you are at your most vulnerable during an emergency. You'll do almost anything to save your animal. In my opinion, ACCESS takes advantage of that desperation with staggering prices and an aggressive approach to treatment that can leave families feeling like they have no choice but to spend thousands of dollars on the spot. To make matters worse, with the exception of a couple of employees, we found the staff to be cold and unfriendly. The veterinarian we dealt with showed very little empathy during one of the most stressful nights we've ever had with our dog. I understand that emergency veterinary medicine is expensive. I expected to pay a premium. What I did not expect was to feel pressured into a treatment plan costing over $6,000, only to discover another emergency hospital treated the exact same condition successfully for a fraction of the cost. If you love your pet--and of course you do--please know that you have options. Call another emergency hospital. Get a second opinion if your pet is stable enough to do so. It could save you thousands of dollars without compromising your pet's care. I will never return to ACCESS Animal Hospital, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. Based on my experience, I would only go here if there were truly no other emergency veterinary hospitals available.

Earlier that day, he had already been seen by my regular veterinarian, where bloodwork was done. Since they couldn't determine the cause of his illness, they recommended I take him to an urgent care facility. The only reason they referred me was because they did not have the equipment to perform X-rays or an ultrasound. They had already done everything they could at their clinic and wanted my dog to receive the advanced imaging he needed. When I arrived around 12:00 PM, the receptionist told me the wait would be about two hours. I completely understood because it's an urgent care, and I appreciated that they took my dog into the treatment area. I assumed he would at least receive IV fluids to keep him hydrated while we waited, especially because I specifically told the receptionist he wasn't eating, was weak, and needed an IV. I was willing to pay for whatever treatment he needed. As the hours passed, I repeatedly asked for updates. Around 3:00 PM, then again at 5:00 PM, I was told my dog was doing fine and that I would be seen soon. Finally, at about 7:00 PM, we were taken into an exam room. The veterinarian came in and immediately asked what was wrong with my dog. I was surprised because it seemed she hadn't been briefed on why we were there. I had to explain everything from the beginning while feeling overwhelmed after waiting seven hours. When I asked if my dog had been receiving IV fluids during that time, I was shocked to learn that he had not received any IV treatment at all. That was extremely upsetting because I believed he was at least being kept hydrated while waiting. After briefly reviewing the bloodwork from my regular veterinarian, the doctor told me my dog "might have leukemia (CANCER)" before performing any imaging, such as X-rays or an ultrasound. Hearing that was heartbreaking. She then recommended additional testing, including more bloodwork, X-rays, an ultrasound, and other diagnostics, with an estimated cost of around $12,000 just to determine what was wrong. I understand that diagnostics are important and that emergency veterinary medicine is expensive. However, after the lack of communication, the seven-hour wait without IV fluids, and hearing such a serious possibility mentioned before additional testing was done, I no longer felt confident continuing care there. I decided to take my dog home. Over the next two days, I focused on keeping him hydrated, monitored him closely, gently massaged his abdomen, and followed supportive care at home. Thankfully, he eventually passed a large mango pit in his stool. Once it came out, he quickly improved and made a full recovery. He did not have cancer. What scares me the most is thinking about how many pet owners may feel pressured into making heartbreaking decisions because of an initial possible diagnosis or because they simply can't afford the recommended costs. I kept thinking that could have been me. If I had accepted that my dog might have cancer without seeking another opinion or waiting for additional answers, I might have made a decision I would have regretted forever. Thankfully, in my dog's case, that wasn't what was wrong. Looking back, I understand that an X-ray may have helped identify the obstruction, and that is exactly why my regular veterinarian referred me there--they did not have the equipment to perform those tests. However, my experience left me feeling that communication was poor, my concerns were not taken seriously, and my dog waited far too long without the supportive care I believed he would receive. This was my personal experience, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this facility based on how my dog and I were treated. I truly hope no other family has to go through what we experienced.

Our dog was taken away for testing and we were left to fill out paperwork. While we were doing that, another patient was trying to make payment for their dog's sudden euthanasia. His card was not working and he was offering alternate ways to pay with no real help or feedback from reception. He felt a bit panicked...his significant other was crying in the exam room while the fact that his card declined had become a very public discussion in the lobby. While we were there an owner came in with a dog that had been hit by a car and another owner came in with a pet with a snake bite. Both were visibly rattled. I had to help one of the owners fill out the intake paperwork, as no help was offered. While we have a dog being put to sleep in one room, two frantic owners in the lobby, and me anxiously awaiting test results, the two people at the front desk talked about their weekend plans and laughed. This went on the entire time I was in the lobby. We were taken to an exam room. The doctor could not pull up the xray images. After waiting for some time, my nerves were frazzled and I ask that she simply dictate what she found, as we did not need visuals. She denied my request and left for 15-20 minutes while trying to figure out how to get the results sent to the correct computer. That wait was horrible as we had absolutely no clue as to what was going on. She finally returned and told us that there was an issue with our dog's spleen and that the surgery would be $8,000 and "probably not worth it." The other options were to take her home and simply wait for natural death, take her home with Chinese herbs that would help death come sooner but not ease the pain, or put her to sleep. At that time I asked my husband to bring our children down to say goodbye. Understand, that morning we left for work with a perfectly healthy (so we thought) 6 year old dog and this decision was absolutely unexpected. After waiting an eternity, the tech came in and administered the medication that caused her breathing to slow and eventually stop. We never saw the doctor after our decision was made. No one offered condolences or their expressed regret that we had such a heavy experience. In fact, though there were signs on two doors that said "please be quite, someone is saying goodbye to a loved one" we walked out with red, swollen faces to staff still cracking jokes behind the desk. It felt surreal. Sometime later a voicemail was left letting me know her remains were ready for pick up. Before I could call back, they placed a second call. Quite frankly, I wasn't ready to take that call knowing what it was about, but I answered. The person on the other end was very matter of fact and ended the conversation saying that if I don't come by the end of the week my dog's remains would "be disposed of." Mind you, this is the first time their office ever talked to me...it isn't like months or even weeks had passed since I was given this information. Additionally, my dog's cremation was a service that I paid several hundreds for. To act like they were doing some favor by holding her 5" x 7" box in their office until I could pick her up was unacceptable and cruel. Over the years I have had many pets that passed and I have never, ever experienced such treatment. I, unfortunately, have to drive by this location daily and every time I do I think back to the poor treatment we experienced from the time we checked in until we picked up our dog's remains. I write this as a word of caution because I would genuinely hate for another pet loving family to ever experience this.

What should have been a straightforward emergency visit turned into a traumatic 8-hour nightmare because of their staff's negligence, terrible attitude, and shocking lack of empathy. While my pug was hospitalized under their direct care, he somehow managed to chew and swallow part of the facility's own equipment. Because the staff failed to properly monitor him, my dog had to endure additional forced vomitin (2 extra times), x-rays, general anesthesia, and an upper GI endoscopy. Putting a small breed through general anesthesia and multiple invasive procedures in pne night takes a massive physical toll, and seeing him go through all of that for an issue they caused was completely heartbreaking and entirely preventable. Sitting in that waiting room for 8 hours overnight was agonizing. Zero Check-Ins & Neglected Updates: I was left sitting in the waiting room for hours on end without a single staff member proactively checking on me or giving me an update. Every single piece of information I received required me to walk up to the front desk and ask for it myself. Distress and Callousness: I sat there for hours hearing my dog whimpering in the back. At the exact same time, I had to listen to the staff laughing, joking, and chatting right nearby. I know people talk and laugh at work, but hearing the staff carry on while my dog was crying in pain after they let him eat hospital equipment felt incredibly cold and insensitive. Attitude & Eye-Rolling Over Documentation requests: When I asked for existing paperwork documenting the equipment incident (simply to ensure I had records in case he needed follow-up treatment late) the RVT gave me a ridiculous amount of attitude, eye-rolling, and unnecessary back-and-forth. To make matters worse, she claimed the doctor was "actually doing me a favor" by waiving the fees for the endoscopy and extra procedures to incude vommiting. Fixing a mistake caused by your own oversight isn't a favor, it's basic accountability. Zero Follow-Through: After promising that the practice manager, "Jennifer," would reach out to address the situation, missing records, and potential future care, I received nothing. No email, no phone call. Complete radio silence. The one single bright spot was the attending veterinarian, Dr. Taniguchi. He truly did his best, treated my dog with care, and tried to make things right by waiving the fees for the incident and escalating it to leadership. I can genuinely see that he cared, and I appreciate him for that. Unfortunately, one good doctor can't make up for a disrespectful staff, negligent supervision, and management that hides behind ghosting a pet owner. Please think twice before leaving your pets here when they are at their most vulnerable.

As a layman I cannot say how much of the tests they did were strictly necessary and what was nice to have, but doctor explained everything very thoroughly so I left feeling like it was pretty reasonable. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because although I arrived around 7 when it was pretty empty, by 8-9PM when my cat was getting his draws and test results, the place became a lot busier and the doctor couldn't attend to me as much, so I ended up not being able to leave until around midnight, including at least one period of over an hour where I was just waiting around. But I can't really blame them that much-- I was in a private room because my cat is skittish so I didn't see, but when I left I saw the place was a total zoo with lots of people, so I think they were just overwhelmed. Overall -- very good service. Bill was a bit high, but they gave me options and walked me through every step with estimates for my confirmation. Only downside was longer wait time as the night progressed.

Pricing wise, I felt it was good, especially for ER vet. I normally go to a cat only specialty vet and this is close to what it might have cost there. I hope I never NEED to go here again but if I did, I would feel confident and safe in the care my animal was getting. Everyone who worked here was kind, sincere, and so good with my very skittish cat. Good doctor, thorough and helpful and just nice to talk to. One interesting thing is that you can see as much or as little as you like as far as them treating your animal because it is an open floor setup. I was literally recommending this place to friends while in their facility. I was really impressed.

We normally have someone come to our home when it's time, but unfortunately that wasn't an option this time, so we chose VEG because it's very close to us. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with condolences and compassion and were quickly brought into a private room. The doctor was incredibly kind, compassionate, and seemed to really understand the room and the emotions surrounding what was happening. They took the time to explain everything to us, which we truly appreciated during such a difficult moment. There were just a couple of things that stood out to us that I hope VEG can take into consideration. While we were in the room saying goodbye, there was quite a bit of loud activity immediately outside the door which was very distracting and difficult to hear during such an emotional moment. We also felt that the nurse who came in to assist was very bubbly and upbeat given the circumstances. While we completely understand that everyone has different personalities and that no harm was intended, the tone felt a little out of place for the situation. Overall, we are grateful for the care we received, and especially for the kindness of the doctor. I'm sharing this feedback because these small details can make such a significant difference for families experiencing one of the worst moments imaginable. With a little more awareness of the environment and tone during end-of-life situations, I think the experience could be even more compassionate

When checked in, we were informed the wait was between 2-3 hours. We understand that as an emergency hospital the critical patients get seen first. Completely understand. We patiently waited while our pup was immobile and in pain to hopefully get seen sooner than later. At the 2 hour mark, we checked in with the receptionist (smaller girl with huge glasses) regarding eta and were told that there were 12 other patients ahead of us and if I wanted a print out of other hospitals. The lack of empathy and care from this response really shocked me as it was basically a "wait or go somewhere else". Throughout this time, I was calling other places who had similar wait times but figured it would be best to stay and wait here since we had already been there for 3 hours rather than start over. We were watching as a people came in after us, attended first and left. It was about 2am (4 1/2 hours LATER) and we still HAD NOT been not seen or even checked on. Not even a quick vital check to assess if my pet was a critical patient. I'm not sure how they "triage" without even looking at a pet. At this point, we left and took our pet to another vet. This was the first and last time I ever use this "emergency hospital". Please research other hospitals and AVOID this one if you can. I wish I would've taken my chances at a different clinic rather than wasting our time here. It was truly one of the worst experiences of my life.
