I had a very positive experience with Southview Animal Hospital recently. My wife and I were…read morevisiting our daughter and her family in California and boarded our 11 year old English Cocker Sophie with a boarding kennel we have used extensively in the past. This time Sophie was attacked by another dog at group playtime. She received two deep punctures in her left flank and abdomen. The boarding kennel took her to Southview where they treated her - cleaned her wounds, sewed her up, gave her pain meds and antibiotics etc. The kennel called our son who is our emergency contact here and he called us early in the morning in California. Of course we were shocked and worried - after all we had left Sophie in what we expected to be safe place. We called Southview and spoke with Dr Mahanke. She spent a long time describing Sophie's injuries, treatment and prognosis which was good. Sophie was returned to the kennel where she was placed in confinement and where the staff did an excellent job of caring for her. She was returned to Southview for a check and Dr Mahanke called us and gave us a positive update we also set an appointment for Sophie after we returned. Sophie came home in good spirits but wearing an Elizabethan collar which was necessary but made feeding etc very awkward and uncomfortable We returned to Southview but Dr Mahanke was ill so we saw Dr Lee who removed her stitches and the Elizabethan collar much to Sophie's and our relief. Both of the vets and the vet tech were very friendly and they obviously cared very much about Sophie's well being. My wife and I were very pleased and would consider using Southview for routine car but it is a very long drive for us.

The doctor and the staff were incredibly kind and loving throughout this entire process... from the moment we arrived, me processing in disbelief what was happening, and even picking up her ashes a few days later. They took such great care of my family and I as we were mourning and in shock. I'm devastated we had to go through this, however I'm so thankful and externally grateful for their love and gentleness to not only our sweet dog, but to us as well. Thank you for being so kind, for grieving with us, and for your hugs during one of the worst days of my life. You all are angels.

Even after they accidentally killed my pet by giving her too much anesthesia, (They weighed my pet…read morein the crate and forgot to deduct crate weight) I have stuck with these guys for over 25 years. The Dr I dealt with last week was so condescending, rude, Cared more about making money than my pet. I felt the puppy should stick with the same manufacturer for the full course of her early vaccine's because it's more effective. Anyone with basic knowledge of vaccine's would understand this. She kept trying to shove a competitors version down my throat. I also brought in a rescue pet that I've only had for eight days, They couldn't do the exam because he was too scared and then charged me full price, kinda heartless. Didn't give me the Included wellness comprehensive exam on my other pet. The wellness plan is not all that it's cracked up to be. They inflate prices to make it seem like a better deal then it is. There is currently a class action lawsuit about just that. Banfield seems like a steppingstone for graduates. There's a reason why they're the lowest rated vet in the area. I'm moving to a different vet for my 4 fur babies. They deserve better care and compassion than Banfield can provide. Do your research, much better options in Woodbury. Search Facebook and Reddit for Customer complaints. It's a staggering amount.

I started coming to this vet after I decided to keep a found kitten. Kitten was injured and I had…read moreto get her to an emergency vet right away. She needed stitches to be removed 2 weeks later. Life Care was suggested and I was looking for a new vet, so went to them. Decided to stay with them. Most of the doctors have been great. Most techs have been great. I think it's the ownership and staffing/scheduling; as I've noticed in the year and half or so I've been going, front desk staff changes. I've also not seen one of the techs I remember when I first started going there. They aren't retaining support staff and I can guess why they leave. The appointment/record entry is questionable. Regardless of the reason for the appointment, it has been entered as "wellness exam" 9/10 times. When you go to schedule via the portal- there aren't appropriate choices, or comment sections to add info. When you do think you picked the appropriate choice/wording and later check/look it up - the info has changed to generic "wellness exam". No idea of price until you get there and they suggest how to proceed and have you agree. Except for the very first visit, I'd usually never get out of there without paying at least $150, or in that ball park. I said, AT LEAST. Not "on average", but as in, no less than. Every. Single. Visit. Hundreds of dollars for blood work labs, before anything that requires anesthesia (dental cleaning, etc.) Go in for an issue, suspected injury, illness- whatever- and you drop over a hundred for exam, then more for meds. Then a follow up is scheduled for a week or so out- which again costs you over $100. My most recent visit was the deciding factor for me. They suggested a flea and heartworm preventative for my older cat (at the appointment) and I thought that made sense. I was all ready to get the med, when I asked about it for my other cat at home. The tech said they'd have to see my other cat in office before prescribing it for her too; mind you- that was the kitten, who'd constantly been there (as in, about every month) her first year of life for regular wellness exams and preventatives, etc. Refused to give the med for her without seeing her in office, but didn't explain why what was necessary. BUT wanted to send me home with the med for the cat at the appointment. WHY would I treat one cat with a flea preventative and not the other cat at the same time? What would even be the point? That is what I told the tech, and refused the med. I knew already, and didn't want to accept it... At that point and after all the other money spent there over the period of a year and half and red flags- it was completely clear that this hospital ridiculously over charges. Offers urgent care, but somehow the appointment will be days away- but will still be charged urgent care pricing...One way or another; either by exorbitant pricing for certain services, or by over scheduling/unnecessary exams. I have to go elsewhere.

I will not be returning here. I reached out near the start of business and was told I would receive…read morea call back shortly regarding an ongoing life threatening situation with one of my pets. after no call back, I left a review expressing my disappointment at the communication regarding this situation and life care responded with private information regarding my pet, their condition, and potential treatment options while not addressing the fact they never called me back and insinuated that their lack of communication was somehow my fault. additionally the situation at hand had been discussed with a specific vet and I had a verbal agreement of the process of care, and it was only due to this verbal agreement that I agreed to change vets in the first place, but being a critical thinker I understand that policies are polices for a reason and focused my review on the lack of communication. so not only did I not get a call back regarding a life threatening situation, the verbal agreement (which was not mentioned and not the reason for the review in the first place) was not honored, and they violated my and my pet's privacy. Do better, own your own behavior and the negatives that come from that, in addition if the receptionist named Kim is unable to be professional and respectful when there is a valid complaint, they should not be in the position to answer the phone.
