This is my absolute fav place in Amsterdam! I have raved about this place to so many friends and fam who asked for reccos, Vegan junk food bar never disappoints! I recently visited this place after 6 years again and enjoyed a scrumptious meal. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk and VJFB Daddy which is a chicken burger. It is served with fries. The taste of this burger is yum and very very close to the taste of chicken. I've eaten chicken before so can definitely vouch for the taste and how close it is! They offer a lot other vegan dishes on their menu like nachos, curly fries, shrimps, wish I could try all of it! It is located right behind Heineken brewing building and is located in a nice spot, parking can get a bit tight but that's the case with all of Amsterdam! P.S. Back in 2019, I was dicey with my decision of quitting meat and ngl the options I got in Europe for vegan/ impersonated meat definitely helped with my decision to go meat-free. There's a wonderful variety of fried vegan food here. Even vegan cocktails. Is it healthy? Not necessarily but it is vegan! A great place for a snack, smoothie, or vegan surprise. It seems like a place you will love or not. I'm on the fence about it. The Heinekenplein can be a great spot to hang and people watch. The inside seemed roomy enough. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Three solid stars and one more for intention and concept. read more

The last time we visited Amsterdam, we put this place in our list immediately for "if we ever go back, let's go here"....and just a short 4 years later we happened to actually make good on that promise. They've updated to table side ordering straight from your phone which was a plus, but unfortunately have not kept the same pizazz they'd been, well, pizzazzing is with in the past. Slider trio - eh. We stopped in here expecting a weird experience and some interesting food. The burger was good, and the fries were excellent. We got the garlic sauce and it was delish. I got the chicken sandwich which came with the blue "Daddy" Sauce. this sauce was AWFUL. it genuinely made my sandwich inedible and it was drowned in the sauce. It smelled and tasted like frosting, so much so that I couldn't even bring the sandwich to my face without being disgusted. This was a disappointment as the rest of the sandwich was SO good (there was one section of "chicken" without sauce that I luckily got to try). Tried this vegan joint ("vibrant urban jungle") in Amsterdam on the recommendation of a friend. While I'm not a vegan, I greatly enjoyed trying a typical Dutch dish (I.e., bitterballen) in vegan form. The staff was super friendly, and the vibe was very retro. Unfortunately, this business has not found its way to the States although I have read that it opened its first non-Dutch location in Spain. By far some of the best vegan food I've ever had!! I will start off with the best part, the food. I cannot figure out how they made their fake meat but every single thing I put in my mouth was insanely delicious!! The staff here was super helpful, walking me through the menu. They made sure I had enough to drink and were on point when new people walked in the door. Their beer selection was really good, I was surprised to see such a decent selection and delighted myself to a few since I was walking around after. I will be back here for sure in February and will be bringing a bunch of non-vegans to make their heads explode! read more

Love this place! From the food to the decor, I loved it all! I dropped in around lunch time, a few minutes after it opened so it was still a bit quiet though it didn't take long for that to change. I started with the dragonberry tea which was very refreshing and not overly sweet. The menu had many great options so it was difficult to decide (something rare for us vegetarians but a good problem to have!) but I decided on the chik'n sandwich. The sandwich was delicious with pickles, vegan cheese, vegan bacon, and a fried chik'n cutlet piled high between fun colored buns. The sandwich was filling enough on its own so I didn't order a side, it was just the right portion for a mid-sized lunch. The hostess was very nice and my order was served quickly. My vegan friend wanted to check out Vegan Junk Food Bar while we were in Amsterdam, so came here for lunch and as a carnivore, I was impressed by the vegan creations. Whatever hangover, late night food you usually eat, there's a vegan version of it found here. Again, as a non-vegan eater, I was impressed. My vegan friend who ordered a cheese burger mentioned that it was the best vegan burger she ever had. The burgers did look like the items to get, as my other friend ordered the "chicken" burger. I ended up ordering the "chicken" caesar salad, which was way better than I thought. Whatever used for the faux chicken, it was quite tasty and they do a pretty darn good job at having it taste similar to a fried chicken strip. I also liked the fried onion that came with the salad, adding some crunch, and the vegan caesar sauce was awesome. We all shared the supreme fries with sweet potato, and it was definitely tasty with all the fixin's, including the faux chicken strips on it. The only complaint is that servers forget about you, and our orders were taken until prob 15-20min after we sat down. I'm a tourist so I'm not sure if this is common. Also with paying I had to walk up to a worker to ask to pay, because they never checked us out even after they took our empty plates. Food quality is absolutely excellent and fun. The restaurant is kind of genius since most think vegan food is small and you can't get full off of it. Being primarily a meat lover, I usually don't see out vegetarian or vegan places to chow down at. However the combination of "vegan" and "junk food" definitely got me curious. I was excited to try their specialties of loaded fries, we got the sweet potato one and boy did it come loaded. Fries were topped with guacamole, cabbage, carrots, onions and pomegranate seeds to name a few. The result is both a visual and taste bud explosion with the many different flavors and textures that come together amazingly in each bite. They have a great place to sit outside when it's nice and good selection of drinks and other libations as well. I was sad they ran out of coconuts that day, but it was a warm day so can understand. I got the house burger. It was so flavorful! The sauce and toppings were incredible and the patty was really nice. I don't like veggie burgers to taste like faux meat. So I will start this like I start the rest of my vegan food reviews. I am not a vegan. My wife is. Upon arrival, we were told that there was an hour long wait. It was very very busy, but seemed to be full of locals. So this was a good sign. We waited at the cafe next door. The hour long time frame was actually a good guesstimate. It was literally 55 minutes before we got a seat. Again, no big deal to us. We didn't call ahead so we had to wait. We decided that we would get a few different things so we could try stuff out. I had a Dutch mule, the notorious sumo burger, and truffle fries with garlic sauce. My wife had the daddy Mc Chik'n and bitterballen with Coke Zero. Let's start with the mule. It was delicious and they put mint in there to add a little twist to the drink. Next up is the notorious sumo burger. It tasted like a beef patty. Had I gone into this not knowing this spot was all vegan, I would not have known the difference. The fries and garlic sauce were good too! The bitterballen had some sort of gravy on the inside and a side of mustard for dip. It was nice and crispy on the outside and tasted good. Now to the best part. The Daddy Mc Chik'n burger. Hands down the best single vegan item I have ever had. The outside was perfectly breaded and crispy and the patty was moist and freakishly tasted like chicken. Yes possible to have vegan food and junk food together! The newest and fourth location is at Eerste van Swindenstraat; we went to that one on our last day in Amsterdam. Our first experience was at this Marie Heinekenplein location - option of indoor or outdoor seating. Super casual. We shared the original burger, shawarma royal (inventive, tasty twist), and Amsterdam bitterballen (interesting traditional food, very close to the non-vegan kine). One of the locations we went to (the one closest to the center of Amsterdam) had AMAZING fries. The supreme fries and the "pass the dutchie" drink are must haves. We wanted to repeat this experience so we then visited a different location which had terrible service (took 42 minutes for just fries to come out and when they did they were so cold). I went to the VJFB after seeing their beautiful photos online and their variety of vegan dishes on their menu. And these two didn't disappoint! The vegan options were amazing and the ambiance of the place was very nice. I ordered the Hulky burger and some chickpea fries. Both were delicious, but these two together left me extremely full. The portion sizes were true to their prices, which were quite high. I am sorry to say that I don't think the taste was worth my money, but perhaps I just did not order the best burger on the menu read more
