Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change.

As soon as they wheeled me in, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. You couldn't even walk through the hallways because they were completely full of stretchers and beds with patients lying in them. Not the waiting room. The hallways. People were bleeding, passed out, sleeping, and waiting for care. It looked like something straight out of The Walking Dead. I've never seen anything like it. I understand emergency rooms get busy. One of the staff members told me they had just received a large influx of patients within the last 30 minutes. I can understand that. What I can't understand is the quality of care. One staff member came to talk to me, and I asked for a cup of ice. She said, "Okay, I'll be right back." I never saw her again. I sat in that exact same spot for over 30 minutes. It's not like I had been moved and she couldn't find me. She simply never came back. Then it was time to draw my blood and start an IV. Before he even touched me, I told him I have rolling veins and that I'm a difficult stick. I specifically asked him not to fish with the needle. I told him that if he had to fish, I'd rather someone else try. He joked, "I ain't got no bait," trying to be funny. Then he proceeded to do exactly what I asked him not to do. He kept fishing around in my vein with the needle. Usually, if my vein rolls, people stop, remove the needle, and try again or get someone else. He didn't. He just kept digging around. After several minutes, I told him to stop because I didn't want him doing it anymore. He kept saying, "If you don't want me to do something, I won't do it," but by that point, the damage was already done. I grabbed my things, called an Uber, and left. I'm not saying every Ochsner facility is like this because I honestly don't know. I'm talking about the Metairie Emergency Room. Between the overcrowded hallways, the lack of communication, and the way I was treated, this was one of the worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. No one seeking emergency care should have to go through what I experienced.

The facilities at Jencare are clean and accommodating and they have a nice beverage station in the lobby. Jencare is great, but our reason for coming here is Dr Ernie. She is kind, compassionate, and takes as much time as we need to discuss treatments, both in her office or by phone. My mother was diagnosed with advanced bladder cancer in October, and Dr Ernie has been wonderfully supportive. Whether it be passing me a tissue discreetly, while giving a less than hopeful diagnosis, or making herself available to us at any hour via a call or text to her cellphone, she is a saint. I wish she could be my doctor too! I will always remember her remarkable level of care for the senior community.

Soooooo pre-katrina, the Ochsner "main campus" was but a mere consideration & most times NOT the choice of hospitals one decided upon... BUUUUTTTT NOOOOOW post-katrina, options are limited & Ochsner has a slight "monopoly" so to speak, in the world of New Orleans clinic/hospitals. So with that being the case, your choices are Ochsner or Ochsner or Ochsner, yeah. Post-Katrina, I have visited this facility more times than I care to mention, either with a relative or a friend. And this time is no different, I'm here with a relative. Review time: Entering the ER triage, we were immediately told to take the elevator to the 8th floor... No reference to which set of elevators... Guess me, my in active labor, aminotic sac ruptured preggo sis & her bestie have to figure it out... Ummm ok. Next we get to the area where she's "to be admitted" & no1 is there to greet us. Sooooo I pushed the "no admittance doors" and admitted, ha... Lol (classic me). So we fiiiind the nurse station... because there was no welcoming committee & then we're wheeled to yet another area. Upon arrival in the L&D triage area, "the correct place" (ER personnel sent us to the post delivery area, we needed pre delivery) we finally get some treatment & attention. She's admitted & we meet a myriad of people, some with great bedside manners & some not so great. Namely, Drs Moore, Pullman, Jordan & Super Nurses Brooke & Emma, ALL members of #teamoutstanding... and then the members of #teamNOTsogreat, well they shall remain nameless. I can honestly say the care, concern & patience shown to us by The L&D Staff, was phenomenal!!! If Alton Ochsner were alive, I'd give the ladies a shout-out & DEMAND a raise. I've always had issues with sleeping so I decided to finally get one done and ask my general doctor for a referral. Make sure to give Sleep Rite a call as I didn't receive a call to make my appointment. It wasn't until I tried about two times to get a hold of someone properly was I able to get penciled in. There's a few things to know when preparing for your sleep study here. -Bring a comforter or your blankets (and sheets even) since the ones they provide aren't hotel grade. Definitely more so hospital vibes with the bedding. -There are two bed pillows they provide but I luckily brought my own. This is also key for folks who like to sleep with a few pillows and one in-between their legs for all of my fellow side sleepers. -Can't drink alcohol or caffeine after 12pm the day of your study -Minimal water and no other liquids after 5pm the day of your study -Wear pajamas you don't mind being watched in. They have to monitor you overnight so be conscious of that. You check-in the night of your sleep study at 8pm and are kept overnight until 5pm. They'll run down everything with you and let you know what to expect. For those of us who wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, there is medical staff working overnight so simply speak out loud when you need assistance and someone will be there to assist. They have a way to unhook all the wires without having to replace them on your skin. It takes some getting used to sleeping with the wires but you can be on your phone, watch tv, or use your phone until you fall asleep. I'll be going back for my CPAP study since I now have been officially diagnosed with sleep apnea so let's see how that one unfolds.

I'm literally in the hospital right now due to complications from afib which would be helped by a cpap machine but now I'm going to have to start the whole process over again with a different company so I can actually get a cpap machine. The clinic seemed nice enough, the techs were helpful and wonderful but if you actually want or NEED a CpaP machine you should go elsewhere because they make it impossible to actually get one here. I'm hoping and praying my heart holds out long enough for me to go through this whole process again elsewhere so I can get my mask, SEVERE SLEEP APNEA, HEART PROBLEMS.... NO CPAP MACHINE AFTER 2 + MONTHS... unacceptable!!!!

She had a wonderful manner with my mother that was respectful of mom's white hair but also kind and just a hint of chiding because Mom made some not great decisions that week. After a short wait, we then saw a nurse practitioner Kim who was also very kind and listened to my Mom. Mom was evaluated and got her xrays which needed to be read by someone off site so it took a bit. Mom got some prescriptions and we were on our way. We were there on a Friday afternoon and all told I think we were there for around 2 hours. Mom was pleased to not sit in an actual ER for hours on end. And I was glad we got a diagnosis. The space was clean and well laid out. Checkin was easy since Mom is Ochsner everything so they just had to call up her records. Parking was good. And as we were using a wheelchair that day since Mom was feeling so poorly, I know accessibility was good.

I feel like if they can't do simple things like this then I don't know if I can trust them to give me quality care. I wouldn't recommend this place.
