We've banked with Velocity for decades, and they have always been wonderful. They don't try to push or upsell you on anything. Their website is super user friendly - I never need to go into the branch office any more. When I do go in, everyone is friendly, helpful and down to earth. True Austin vibe. read more

I was trying to refinance my car through them and they will not work with immigrants. They asked me to prove I was staying in this country; I been here since I was 3 years old. I asked them, once I renew my work permit and get that done, do I have to prove I'm staying in this country even after that? They didn't have an answer. The real answer is, they don't work with immigrants. So if you have a work permit, don't bother with them. It is very unfortunate, first time in my life I ran into this issue. I have purchased vehicles in the past and refinance in the past, but first time I been asked if I'm staying in this country. Of course I'm staying, this is the only country I know. :(  I never been discriminate before till now. I'm very hurt by this. read more

We live in SW Austin and this particular location is very convenient for us. We truly enjoy the vibe at the Brodie Oaks branch as the people are very friendly and courteous. We also took out a home improvement loan at the downtown branch in 2015 and the service was impeccable. The employees are trained properly and they make you feel like you are part of the Velocity CU family. I highly recommend Velocity CU! read more

I started banking with Velocity in 2011, moving my business and personal accounts from Bank of America who had charged outrageous overdraft fees to my old account rather than decline my debit card. I couldn't be happier. Velocity has a great fraud detection system and when the pandemic happened their business department was invaluable in helping me receive SBA PPP loan funds. I love this credit union! And their app works GREAT! And their customer service is GREAT! I can't say enough good things about them! read more

I had a amazing experience with them. I had a problem with my auto payment and when I called the 1 800 number the guy on the phone said that it was on my bank and and that I need to talk to them and he was going to charge me a late fee for all of this. I went into the bank and talk to Mrs. Pounds and she looked into it and found out it was on there and and that she will take care of it and reverse the late charges that the man on the phone charges me. This bank has failed to be a functional bank at every step of the way. Your equipment does not work. Their app is an absolute nightmare. And their customer service I would write them a zero if I could. They are incompetent and have no social skills what so ever. This bank you should stay as far away from as possible. Credit Unions are better than banks. Why? "A big difference between credit unions and banks is where the profits go. When you're doing business with a bank, the investors of that bank are reaping the profits of the institution. However, credit unions are non-profit entities. When you're doing business with a credit union the profits of that credit union are being returned to the members of the credit union in the form of lower loan interest rates and higher dividends." I've been banking with velocity for the past 3 years, and have been mostly satisfied - the folks at this branch are nice, but some of the bank policies kind of suck. They auto-enrolled me in an overdraft 'protection' program that ended up costing me 300 bucks. They refunded half of that when I complained, but I never asked to be enrolled in the first place. The online banking is pretty dreadful, the site sucks and is super slow. I'd recommend Velocity, just be sure you understand the policies, and don't need to rely on a super-awesome online banking experience. read more

I always get treated well in other banks from velocity and this velocity ( south lamar ) they asked me for an ID an making so many comments on how I should have my ID for a checking deposit with no view of my balance (other banks don't ask me for an ID when I'm just depositing my checks with no balance just this lady it's my second time going there and I always get her )and they weren't even asking other customers for it just me. We recently refinanced an existing auto loan with Velocity to take advantage of a much lower interest rate. To say it was a painless experience would be a great understatement. Members since 1958 and have seen changes from a customer orientated credit union to since COVID arrived a complete lack of service attitude. While other businesses made changes so they could continue to serve their customers.velocity shut down Brodie Oaks and sent you over 10 miles across town to sit in a jam packed line at their drive through. A complete disregard of service. Other businesses put up screens , used masks and continued to serve their customers. Did velocity use this as a chance to cut their payroll. Anyway we have opened account at other customer oriented credit union and are considering closing our accounts at velocity. read more

Came in to deposit money and asked if my account would recieve any over draft fees was told no my balance was good and not to worry a couple hours later I see an over draft fee that I specifically asked about was posted to my account so I wasted time to drive back over and the same teller sends me to a "specialist " that doesn't take care of the problem read more

I had questions about the possibility of flipping a home and/or buying a second home and needed a knowledgeable banking partner related to this. She took her time with my many questions and truly guided me on track with her knowledge and patience. She stated she was available to help with any questions I may have. Applied and received a loan - very easy. Paid on it for a couple years then made a large final payment in July to pay off the loan. Paid more than the payoff balance to cover any additional daily interest and assumed was paid off because stopped receiving a bill and text notifications that I had a payment. October 2 I get a text saying I owe money - call them up to find out that my payment did not pay off the loan and there was a small balance. Okay fine but NEVER rec'd a statement or text message between July and October that there was a balance due. So I got hit with interest on the balance for 2 months. Sketchy business practice in my opinion and would not work with them on another loan. Not to mention the girl on the phone was pretty attitudy and acted like it was totally normal to do business like this. read more

Wow. I dealt with this credit union as the treasurer of a local organization, and I would definitely not recommend it. After coming into the office (and waiting in the lobby for 15 minutes, even though I got there when the doors opened), I was instructed to fill out paperwork to add the new slate of officers to the account and get online access. Seemed simple enough at the time - just fill it out and send it in. It took 3 emails (2 through their "secure portal"), 2 faxes, and 4 phone calls (during business hours, of course) until they finally received the paperwork and I was told that I needed to wait for 2-3 business days to allow "processing" before I could call back yet again to get access to the organization's online account. To add insult to injury, the whole time you're waiting on hold, they advertise for their "live chat" and "secure email" alternatives. The live chat doesn't work - the link takes you to an offline survey. And, as previously mentioned, I have yet to receive a response to any of the "secure emails." Maybe I'm just spoiled by Chase Bank, I think this is a perfect example of why profit-driven businesses tend to provide better customer service. read more

I switched to Velocity almost two years ago when there was a big push to switch to local credit unions, and I have never looked back! This bank is everything I wanted. I once over drafted more than their max of five times per month (!!!) and the teller apologized profusely and refunded the fee ($5 per transaction - jeeze that's cheap compared to Compass!) It is a relatively small bank so you actually see the same faces each time you come in. This location has a complimentary paper shredder and coin counter (- yea! No more 8% lost!) Its hardly ever crowded, but even when it is you're still to the front of the line in less than five mins. My dream bank! read more

Paid my payment on due date, they took 10 days to process it then proceeded to NOT tell me there was an error, instead waited till I was in the late penelty timeframe... then tried to tell me "we don't have to call you" but then told they did call and leave a voicemail (they didn't) ... and kept getting cut off with " if you want us to waive that late fee we won't, if that's what ur going for" and told over and over it's my fault?? read more

Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever gotten at a financial institution. I had not heard of Velocity Credit Union until the bookkeeper for my housing co-op (CHEA) wrote me a check for $15.16 as reimbursement for parts I had bought while repairing our coffee grinder. Some of my housemates had recommended Velocity and, as I am new to Austin, was considering opening an account there. I went in on a Friday afternoon and waited about ten minutes to talk to a teller. That was understandable. The teller I ended up talking to seemed to be new on the job and spent possibly 15 minutes reviewing the check and my ID before telling me that I could only get $10.16 as there would be a $5.00 fee for cashing the check. I asked why she didn't tell me that up front and she didn't really have a good answer. I have cashed checks at Frost Bank and other commercial banks, business and personal checks, have never been charged a fee, and usually got polite and competent service. Fees were always explained to me up front. I believe in the concept of credit unions as a cooperative alternative to commercial banks. What I don't believe in is paying more money for inferior service. I asked for the check back and will deposit it one of my commercial bank accounts. I certainly won't opening an account with Velocity or recommending it to others. read more

DO NOT USE THIS CREDIT UNION!! If I could give negative stars I would!! How am I supposed to make a payment if you won't allow me to!?!? I cannot access online payments and calling in to make a payment costs $10 if the automated service recognizes my account number, which hasn't happened since I started using you guys. The only way I can make a payment is to come in to a location and who has time to do this? In a world progressing with technology you better get with it or you will be out of business. Other credit unions actually respect their clients so I am currently shopping around for a new one! read more

This bank has no compassion for human life. My fiancé lost his job and couldn't pay a loan payment. Instead of calling us to ask us about the issues they closed his account with no notice. Then 4 months later when he deposited his first paycheck into our joint account they took it all. I am totally aware that we owed them money and they had the right to take that loan payment, but how they came about it was wrong. No one called me to tell me this would happen, no one notified me that they have been watching my account. No one called to discuss why he can't pay his bill or what we can do to set up a later payment. My car payment is two months behind I am days away from it being repossessed. My cell phone bill will be turning off this very afternoon because I'm two months behind. That first paycheck was going to help us catch up on the things we use to work. I need my phone to accept jobs. I need my car to get there. I had every intention of catching up in this loan but I need my phone and car to make money to pay you. They literally ruined my life for a $700 payment. As if they didn't have enough money. read more

This place is a sinking ship! No convenient feature that a bank or credit union SHOULD have works. Atm is always down, online banking is dysfunctional, automatic payments fail. Teller errors ARE WAY TOO COMMON (Not TELLERS fault). The system they use is VERY outdated and not user friendly, making it almost too easy to make mistakes. EVERYONE quits! The Demise of this institution will be their lack of respect for their own employees. No one stays it's a rotating mess. I would not bank here. However, they do have good interest rates on loans. And they are so whipped by their superiors to show costumer service they will let you get away with almost anything if you start a fight over it, so what check holds? Finally, the most disturbing thing is walking in this branch to find a ridiculously long line with one teller working. Because they all resign. All while a member is barbarically yelling at them. I've turned over to see the other staff including the branch manager doing NOTHING to deescalate the situation. WHY? HOW? It's almost unworldly watching someone be abused every time I come in here. It's EVERY TIME! In conclusion this place just doesn't feel ethical, up to date, safe, moral, fair, and financially secure for your money. If you need a loan but don't ever need to walk in a branch or rely on any kind of online convenience feature consider this as a last resort. read more
