This place is either run by incompetent staff or is running a scam. I called to verify they took our family insurance which they said yes. I called my insurance to verify. My daughter shows up and they say, sorry don't take your insurance, you need to pay out of pocket. They tell her she needs to make a claim on her own with the insurance. Our insurance says we can make the claim but needs x, y, and z info. We reached out to Velocity Care for the additional info by email. 6 weeks later still no response. I called the customer care to inquire if they took our insurance or not and they refused to answer my question because I was not the primal patient. It's a general question not specifically related to a person. What sort of scam are they running at this place? Or is the office staff completely nonsensical? read more

I had the worst experience with Dr Karol Gordon. I asked a question about an antibiotic she gave me and she became abrasive, rude and indignant. I have never been talked down to like that in my life. Horrible. Not to mention she prescribed me the entirely wrong antibiotic that will be useless against my problem. I waited 2 entire hours for what I am certain to be the wrong prescription, and when I merely raised my concern, she chewed me out. Truly felt as though she was more focused on trying to feel like she knew what she was talking about rather than actually doing her job and helping her patient. read more

Despite labeling themselves as urgent care, they are not. My daughter went there and was turned away. Told to come back the next day. If you need urgent care, Velocity is not for you. Clearly they are understaffed for the volume. They truly need to stop calling themselves urgent care as it is by appointment only. read more

I have hypertonic pelvic floor dysfunction and this location is very unaware of the entire medical field dedicated to pelvic floor health. The ONLY doctor who helps me when I go is Violet R Wender. She is the only one who told me also that the IM Toradol injections for my pelvic floor affect my ulcer while I'd been getting them roughly a year on end weekly at this location. I now have a bleeding ulcer which has caused me to be anemic and if Violent R Wender had not told me, I would continue to be using the medication, making it worse. She helped me find an alternative medicine to help my flares while ensuring the safety of my stomach lining. Also do not call this location if you have even a simple question. Laurie at the front will only allow a question to be asked if you came in that day and it must be a question pertaining to the visit. You'd think medical facilities would appreciate the questions, you know, because they're all in the field with the claim they wish to help others. read more

Dr. Dums was very thorough and accurate in diagnosing my daughter's sinus infection. It was definitely not obvious to us that she had a sinus infection, even though we knew something wasn't right. But he was spot-on. We appreciated his kind, respectful, thorough treatment. read more

They are absolutely horrible, they barely do anything, I don't even think they went to medical or nursing school. I went there because I was feeling really sick and the doctor/nurse just told me to get painkillers! Don't bother going there they're just a waste of time, if you really need medical care go to the ER otherwise these people couldn't care less about you or your illness. read more

Firstly, the nurse who took our intake was very nice and for the most part helpful. Secondly, I can't believe there isn't a DOCTOR (a real doctor) on the premise at all times. I will preface my story by giving you a little insight on how I arrived to this location and hopefully no one will ever need to unless it's for a small cut or something that won't lead to something bigger. We live In NJ and had a college tour trip planned for months In VA. My son started showing symptoms of not feeling good Thursday night, November 3rd. On Friday (the next day, we tested him for Covid (pcr test) and he was negative. On Saturday (out of precaution, we went to our pediatrician and tested him for covid again, the flu, and strep. All were ruled negative and the doctor felt he had a virus. Her suggestions were to have him rest and let the virus takes it's course. We kept him home for a couple of days but by Monday he showed signs of bouncing back. We had a college tour planned for Tuesday so proceeded to drive to Virginia to not lose the slot with the school and all the money and time already invested with the trip. However, on Monday night (and through the night) my son showed signs of worsening, almost like the virus turned Into a sinus Infection or Bronchitis. I Immediately called my pediatrician and we both felt I should take him to an urgent care. That's how we landed at velocity. When NP Violet Wender walked in the room, that was it for pleasant experiences. NP Violet Wender has to be one of the worst NP out there. She entered the room without reading the chart because she basically asked all the same questions the nurse did and then suggested I take a flu test when the nurse had already done that. From the beginning she entered the room, she had a judgmental attitude and really wasn't listening to us as patients but rather seemed annoyed that my son was out with a virus when she felt he should be home. I'm not sure If It's something you learn In medical school before becoming a DOCTOR or not, but I'm pretty sure doctors our taught to be unbiased and not judgmental. She is obviously not a doctor so maybe that's why she hasn't learned that yet. NP Violet Wender... From the beginning she did not think it was anything more than a virus, and even when she checked his breathing, she said I could always have an x-ray to double check but rolled her eyes while suggesting it as if that wasn't necessary. At the end of our visit she simply said he should be home and not out and just take a slew of over the counter drugs plus a prescription cough syrup to help. I have never given my kids cough syrup because to the best of my knowledge they are not good for you. It's just an unnecessary bandaid that could lead to many bad things (please read FDA). Knowing in my gut that this was something more, I immediately called my DOCTOR, not a NP. And of course, she also felt that this sounded like the virus turned into something more. She prescribed amoxicillin and within a day and half my son felt 100% better. My opinion, I know covid has hindered many occupations, but I really think a Doctor should always be on staff at an urgent care. It's times like these that a second opinion from a Doctor could have helped. I also think that NP Violet Wender should focus more of her energy on assessing patients for their illness rather than their personal choices. Maybe she's not a working mom, or one of multiple children or one of multiple high school children, but it's not an easy choice to make to throw away money and scheduled time for a virus. A viral infection that must run its course and essentially you could be out if you're fever free for 24 hours. I've never heard of anyone, I mean ANYONE, taking 5 or 6 days at home for a viral infection when you're fever free for 24 hours or more. I mean covid is only requiring you to stay home for 5 days. So when a NP judges you for not being home after 4 days of illness, Instead of maybe thinking this could be something more, it's just careless and harmful. read more

I tried to get seen a day before and they told me the wait was too long and they wouldn't be able to get me before they closed. I asked for an appointment and they said they didn't take them. I went back the next day, 10mins after it opened, and was told it'd be an hour wait still, AND to wait outside because of my symptoms in the 40degree weather(keep in mind I am literally sick) despite wearing a mask, also being told if I left I would lose my place in line. 2 hours later, I check back in and am told it will be another 45 minutes to an hour. They have treated me for just about everything under the sun, I probably come to them more than my PCP! I went here last minute for a COVID test, and all the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. It took a little while to be seen, but that was not their fault- around 15 kids showed up right at opening. Doctor was super friendly and understanding, and I would definitely go here again. read more

Sent our daughter here with an injury to her ankle. The dr, Karen Terry, D.O. was extremely rude, callous and could have cared less about the pain she was in. Seriously? Aren't DOs supposed to CARE about the "whole" patient.? This woman should be evaluated for her ability to deliver patient care. WORST EXPERIENCE we've had here. Wait time is fine, but after paying a $50 copay with my insurance I was simply told to use over the counter medicine, and visit my primary doctor if my symptoms didn't improve. This turned out to be awful medical advice, and a huge waste of money. If it's not an absolute medical emergency I highly recommend avoiding this velocity care center. read more

I've heard stories of the Blacksburg office describing it as a poor experience. Fortunately for me, that was not my experience. Service was fast -- I was in and out in less than an hour. Staff/nurses/doctor all had great bed-side manners which made me really relaxed and comfortable since it was my first time going and consequently a bit nervous. read more
