I see most of these reviews are older and there's apparently an old man owner that is incredibly rude ... fortunately for me I've visited quite a few times in the last month (visiting my partner that's working here) and I've had nothing but great experiences with all female workers. The "spicy" fries are delicious Cajun fries not actually spicy and very crispy. I've really enjoyed the chicken tenders and they always give a lot of sauce! I feel the prices are fair me and my partner share a medium fries, medium tender, 2 drinks $20 and it's enough for us to be full for hours and we've really enjoyed. The chocolate lovers trash ice cream is also fantastic! I have typically gone for lunch and there is usually not a line but I will say it takes them about 15 to 20 minutes to get the food out. I did go once for dinner and the line was really long and it took about 30 minutes. Overall I've had a great experience maybe they've kept the rude old man from coming ! I'm not sure . There is a self ordering on the screen or you can order at the counter and then wait for your food and they're also is a drive-through . Kind of a different set up but it works. Mediocre, overpriced, food... That's what's going on here. It's just trashy food. Frozen EVERYTHING! To some it's probably good, I've met them recently in the hospitals I've been in. Ice cream is pretty good I guess. I can't say anything stands out as great. Kids have had us here many years coming for the ice cream. Tiger Blood has had all the rage at the house so many times. Not my thing. I am not a big fan of order at the window and stand outside and wait kinda customer service models. Does the drive thru work here still? Shit, I don't know... I was in the area today and stopped here on my lunch break. It's wasn't busy , that's strange for lunch hours. The food here is just okay, the burger wasn't hot but the chili dog was and it's pretty tasty. The service was okay too. But it's definitely not something I would run back and try. So we've been here twice in the last few days. From that, you can probably guess that we like it. Our first time was on Tuesday night. It was a great little find. I enjoyed a hot fudge sundae with peanuts and my wife had fresh french fries. Yes, she dipped her fries in my sundae, and it was yummy. The gentleman at the counter was friendly, even joking a little bit. He wore a big smile. I liked that. The place has all kinds of ice cream treats, and plenty of hot food. Really, there is a lot to choose from. Also, the place has a cool vibe and benches out front. We sat there and enjoyed the treats. Oh man I have heard of this place from tons of people but I never seemed to stop by. We were around the corner and decided to give them a shot! I am really glad we did. I was very impressed with all the options available- it's like a foodie paradise. Yes it was expensive but the sizes were also HUGE for the drinks. What can I say? This place has been in Hernando, since Christ was a carpenter. However, in the last 25 years their prices have quadrupled. If you go through the drive-through, you'll pay more for the food then if you just walk to the front. Also, if you do an online order using the app you'll pay more. If you never had "The Dip" you've got to try it once at least a milkshake or an ice cream. But after that you can find better food at a cheaper price. read more

The velvet cream is an ice cream place that we happen upon on when we visited Hernando Art Fair. We were very surprised at the great customer service we received and the man at the counter is very nice and very welcoming. The Velvet Cream is a good place to get ice cream, slushy, snow cones and also a great place to get burgers, hotdogs fries and basically anything you want. The menu is very extensive, I had to put a few pictures on there so that you can see all the menu items that they have available. This is by far the greatest snow cone / ice cream place around and I do not mind making the drive down here to get some. So I will never be back to Velvet Cream again. We patronize this place at least every week and today I was treated rudely by the owner. I ordered my ice cream online and as soon as I got it, it was melted. I nicely asked him if he could replace it and he says, it's hot outside and ice cream melts. I said sir I just got the ice cream from the other window and it's melted. Then I proceeded to ask him if he could replace it. He was so rude and said I'll just give you your money back. I said well just do that sir. I mean if you get ice cream at the grocers it melts too but this ice cream was soupy. As a customer, I should not have had to debate with an owner. The ice cream is AMAZING. We visited twice in one weekend it was so good. (We live an hour away but were nearby for the weekend.) The food is pretty tasty, too, if you're looking for fast food. Online ordering was so helpful. We have a large family so anytime we can order online it makes things easier. Order accuracy was perfect - even with our orders being large. Zero complaints from us! This spot needs to be on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. They have a big wall full of ice cream options alone. You can have a shake, malt, concrete, etc. They also have snow cone options that you can also include ice cream to make it even better. When it comes to food: burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, hot dogs, etc. The burgers will really catch your eye, that's how I ended up with the The Heart Attack burger. Meat, cheese (that covers the whole patty), bacon & instead of buns, you get funnel cakes. That's right... You can see why I ordered without hesitation. The burger was VERY good. The perfect balance of sweet & savory. No sauce was added, none was needed. You have two sizes when it comes to patties, I got the regular, the larger size would've had me more than full. Stopped in during the Covid-19 Pandemic. I ordered some really good ice cream from them. I don't recall the name of the ice cream but I think it might have been Mississippi Mud. Oh my goodness, we drove to this place and was just a short drive for heavenly ice cream. It's on hwy 51 in Hernando and they've got 250 flavors to try of ice cream and/ or frozen ice and ice cream. That's what I had and it was super tasty! The frozen ice with tiger blood drizzled through with the frozen custard sitting on top like it belonged there. It co mingles with your tastebuds and creates a marriage between your tongue and taste buds that is made in Heaven. My husband tried the strawberry shortcake blizzard and he immediately swooned. The absolute best place for Ice Cream & Milk Shakes. The food is not bad but they are more known for their Ice Cream. I highly recommend if ever in the area you stop in for a milkshake! The biggest thing I love about this place is they make their Milkshakes with actual Ice Cream. They only use the chocolate syrup (Which I Despise) if you request it. Most places these days " Like Sonic" use that nasty syrup and they don't even get it mixed in to boot. Your first sip is usually pure chocolate syrup ....lol..... Yes they are a bit pricey and they are not real quick. I would much rather pay a premium for hand made items and wait a few extra minutes for quality products. The menu is crazy so get ready to spend a little time looking it over. If its not on the menu they will take personal recipes as well. This place just gets worse and worse... My daughter and I were out earlier this evening and stopped to pick up my husband a medium mint chocolate chip shake, I decided to get a mini twist cone, and she ordered a small fried cheddar cheese cubes. We waited for quite a while at the window, and the owner finally comes and brings the shake, the cone in a tray holder, and the bag with the fried cheese. It's $27, which was bad enough, but he hands the shake and the bag through the window, and then holds the tray out for my daughter to take the cone. When she picked up the cone from the tray, the bottom of cone broke partially away from the top as she brought it into the car. She laughed and told him that it fell apart and she handed it back to him and he said he would take care of it. He comes back in a minute and hands her a new cone (we thought), but no, as soon as I took it from her, the top started wobbling and we saw that he had just broken off the bottom and set the old cone down on top of a new cone (really??) and it wouldn't stay together. My daughter handed it back to him and I said that's not going to work, can I just get a new cone, and he said he would put it in a cup. I said, "No, I don't want a cup, can I just get a new cone of ice cream?" and he said no, the cones are just flimsy, and he would just give me my money back. What!? Don't you sell those ice cream cones every day?? Why would you not just make a new cone?? Anyway. He then hands back my debit card that had been charged for the full $27, and $6 in cash refund for the cone, and it was all covered in ice cream. We were just incredulous! We laughed all the way home at how bizarre the whole interaction was. Every time we go (which is very rarely anyway) we say we'll never go again, but this just cemented that decision. Good, but no indoor seating. So I went down to cheer on a friend who did the Big Dipper Challenge. I'm glad I was able to visit the longest running restaurant in DeSoto County. The food was excellent for a mom and pop burger joint with huge servings. I'm thankful for the hospitality they extended to my friend, a competitive eater. My burger had about a 10 minute wait, but they were fairly busy with the walk up window and a long line in the drive through. I would have liked to see an outdoor picnic table so the challenge can be done or folks can eat there if they want to. read more

Unfortunately for us, Velvet Cream ranks near the top of the list of really good ice cream. We frequent there all too often and I think my belly is showing the effect. The scoop ice cream is great, but the soft serve leaves a lot to be desired. They make it with heavy whipping cream instead of with milk and it leaves a waxy coating on the inside of your mouth from all the extra fat. I have stopped getting soft serve from there entirely. read more
