At 1:30AM on 12/24/25, a hellacious wind and rain storm caused a large redwood tree failure that hit our house with extensive damage to our roof, chimney, skylights, solar tubes, roof vents, and gutters along with internal damage from branches puncturing and intruding into our home. At the same time, we were in the dark without power trying to stumble about and assess the explosion that just happened to our house of 35 years in Sebastopol city limits. We confirmed that all of us were safe and uninjured, and we made calls to Sebastopol PD and Sebastopol Fire who responded and confirmed that there was no threat from down power lines. We had these palm trees are in our neighborhood they have been a nuisance to all the neighbors for many years these things were at least 60 feet tall and very close together. The amazing new neighbors hired Angel and his crew. They used our front yard to park their bucket truck, and access the trees from our yard. Angel the foreman was amazing and did a great job. We were super happy with the work that they all performed. Everything was done with consideration to making sure nothing got damaged in our yard as well as the neighboring yard, which are all very close. Did a great job protecting our fruit trees from getting damaged with falling palm fronds. Very happy with the job they did cleaning up and came over to confirm that we were happy with the cleanup. From the beginning, when Dante gave us the estimate and went over everything, I felt confident in having Vema Tree Service do the job (and at a very reasonable price, I'll add) and I was not disappointed! Santiago and his crew did AMAZING work! Santiago went over all the work with me and asked questions to make sure it was clear. In one day, they trimmed and skinned our Mexican palm, trimmed our Yucca palms, took out a diseased Japanese Maple, trimmed back a neighbor's tree from our house, and the biggest job of all: pruning and raising the canopy on a group of six redwoods in our back yard. They were obviously a very skilled crew. They had all our neighbors mesmerized going up and down the redwoods to carefully prune and remove A LOT of dead wood and excess growth. They were careful and efficient and did a great job cleaning up, both in our yard and our neighbor's yard. Everything looked better than before they arrived. I was told by two other companies that it would not be worth skinning the palm tree because it would take too much time/money. When Dante did our estimate, he said it wasn't a problem: they did it the right way with a razor and it looks SO much better. We were very happy with their work. We contacted Vema Tree Service for a tree-trimming estimate (20 oaks and 3 other trees) and Miguel came out within 30 minutes. He was very pleasant and walked our entire property with us, listening to what our concerns were and explaining what he thought needed to be done with each tree. He used a laser to show the extent of what each trim would entail. He gave us an estimate on the spot and a date when the work could take place. The estimate seemed very reasonable so we called the next day and agreed to the proposal. As stated, the crew showed up on time Monday morning and completed the work by Tuesday evening. They were courteous, mindful of our other plants and trees, and their clean up was impeccable. Stay Away! It took Vema Tree Service three trips to the house remove one stump. Not only did they have equipment problems, but lied about completing the removal. After the first and second visits the man in charge looked me straight in the eye and told ALL of the stump was removed. Not True! When another company came out to plant a new the tree, they found that the stump was not completely removed. Vema covered a 3 foot by 2 foot section of the stump with dirt (hard to miss). As a result, the tree planting company had to reschedule. In addition, the stump machine damaged the lawn, and when removing the cut limbs, the siding needed to be repainted and the fence gate was all scratched up. read more
