However, Son Rise blew the competition out of the water! From the moment we arrived we could tell Son Rise was a special place. Despite its size, they make every customer feel known, and important. The attention to detail is unparalleled! The docks are clean and very well kept, along with every other inch of the marina from the parking lot to the swimming pool. Son Rise offers many extra amenities such as: a community room with coffee available 42/7, beautiful, clean bathrooms and shower facilities, huge indoor heated storage, a large pool and a nice laundry room. The entire marina is gated making it very secure. Our family was extremely impressed with the friendly and kind attitudes of everyone at Son Rise. It obviously starts with the Manager, Tim, and trickles down through the staff and even the other customers. My daughter even mentioned that Son Rise was exactly like Disney World. It magically looks perfect- though you never actually see the effort that goes into maintaining it so well. Son Rise has set the bar for how all marinas should be! We will absolutely be back.

Before going to get gas at this marina on 7/28 we called and asked what time they are open until…read more We were provided with the time of 5:00pm. We arrived after boating across the bay at 4:40pm and as we pulled up, the kid working said that they were out of gas as he was putting locks on the pumps. However, the boat ahead of us was in the process of fueling up. As we inquired, the answer changed to, "We are closed." Understandably frustrated we mentioned at we called ahead to ask and the kid Caleb almost refused to fuel the boat. He was no help in helping us dock and if it wasn't for the nice lady working saying, "I don't know why he said that because we are indeed open until 5:00". Caleb probably wanted to just get out of there but when you boat across the whole bay with little fuel, if it wasn't for the nice girl we would have been stranded in the marina. Overall Caleb gets an F for customer service and for lying. We will avoid getting fuel from this place again.

There's a spot where you can get drinks but sometimes bees will beat you to it and drink the liquid. Don't worry about the bees they are rarely there! We slept on the ground in sleeping bags. There were a lot of people making noise until about 12:30am, playing music, singing, talking and yelling. The showers were not great but fine for a campground. I went to bed around 2am when everything had died down. Around 7am, some banging started like there might be a shooting range nearby. In the morning, I explored the camping area and got some exercise. So much better than a hotel gym! I ran around, shot some hoops, and bounced on their "jumping pillow" which was exactly what I needed before a day of driving. And it was so much cheaper than a hotel room.

Ron was more interested in telling people how he was getting paid to teach people how to sail than actually teaching people how to sail. We really learned very little during the course about actual sailing. We did learn that Captain Ron likes going to expensive places for lunch and having his students pay the tab. We did not receive our Basic Cruising stickers for our logbook as they were out, and they never sent our info to US Sailing. I just found this out the other day. I emailed and called about a dozen times in the past year and still have nothing. Captain Ron also showed us how to destroy the navigation lights on his boat while pulling into a slip. Not sure I wanted to learn that. Overall it was a terrible experience.
