It's a solid gym. Vent Fitness is an upscale fitness center for capital region. Boasting a few locations, this review is solely for the Vent Fitness Latham. Like most gyms, there's an array of fees to navigate: For the barebones membership, that will be $100 to create an account, $50 yearly, plus $10 a month: $270 your first year and $170 every year after. The gym itself is top-notch; completely newly renovated. Plenty of treadmill and cardio options. Free weights and machines are all new and in excellent working condition. Clean, clean, clean. At peak times, it can be annoying to have to weight to use some of the equipment. The next tiered membership ($30/month), you get access to the majority of their classes, as well as their tanning and oxygen station. I hear good things about the classes, which start at 5:30 AM and go until 8PM. Solid value for a gym, provided you use it 3+ times a week. read more

They have a pool, hot tub, and a sauna, which is great for folks with sore legs like me. I do squats and twists in the pool and sauna to keep my legs agile. I then take a sauna if my muscles are sore. They have a basketball court. They have great machines for strength and cardio. The participants are friendly and helpful. The staff are fantastic. Even at rush hour there are always machines available to exercise with. Also if you don't mind paying extra they have strength coaches and exercise classes like spinning. To top it off an $80 cancelation fee for taking your precious bank account from them. Vent is a very clean and high quality gym. I go to the Niskayuna location and love how laid back it is. If you like a more relaxed gym where people don't really slam and scream, it's a very simple and comforting place to excercise. This gym is one of a group of gyms with several locations. They formerly had the Golds Gym branding. Update 9/11/20 - I've been a member for a while and see that my review gets lots of views. So I'm updating my entry after the gym has reopened from the pandemic closing. I generally have a positive impression of the way things are run. They understand the very serious safety issues of the virus and have taken the proper measures to ensure safety. There were quite a few senior members working out at this gym before the pandemic, and a few have trickled back in along with the muscleheads. They keep track of how many people are in the gym at any one time by their touchless keytag system. This is reassuring on several levels. First it limits capacity so the gym doesn't get too crowded. But also, if there were ever any cases of Covid, public health officials could do contact tracing. At Latham, the gym floor is large. Masks and social distancing are required. I do see a few gym partners working out together, but otherwise people stay apart and I have not seen maskless clumps of people. People keep their masks on, even while doing cardio activities. In fact, staff members occasionally walk through and remind anyone who is incorrectly wearing their mask to please keep their nose covered. Nothing confrontational, just a polite warning, and people do the right thing. You're also supposed to wipe down any equipment you use before and after you touch it. There are plenty of disinfectant wipes placed around the gym to do this. The water fountains are blocked off. Although the locker room is open, I don't use it, because the space is confined. I get dressed for the gym at home and simply walk in from my car. Most people do the same thing. I'm a high risk individual, but all in all, I feel safe using this gym and will continue to do so as long as they keep up with safety protocols and infection rates in this area remain low. read more

Unfortunately Vent Fitness's ill-informed (and possibly malicious) leadership and ineffective management leave me with no other option than to leave a bad review, which seems to be my only meaningful recourse as a member there. The manager at the Latham location was totally unhelpful when I raised an objection to employees from the Department of Corrections (the people responsible for caging human beings in New York State) tabling during business hours. He also didn't seem to understand why someone would object to it. This show of support for the Prison Industrial Complex is totally unacceptable and completely inappropriate, not to mention a safety hazard because incarcerated people and corrections workers are much more likely to contract COVID than the general population. They're also much less likely to be vaccinated, which means having DOCCS employees stand unmasked in the middle of the gym could mean potentially exposing everyone who comes through to COVID. read more

Need to have a schedule for the pool. You can't have a customer waiting for 45 minutes until someone decides that is time to stop swimming. An organized pool schedule will help to warranty a lane. I swim on mornings and cant be late for work just waiting. The manager excuse is that sometimes people don't show up.... Really? After not entering the Latham location for a couple years, not only did I see major improvements but felt improvements in myself. Recently moving, the Latham Vent facility became my new home location. As I walked in, the past couple months , staff has been friendly on most days. The locker room no longer has that sewer odor, big thumbs up for that. They now have a cage which has a variety of equipment to use , switch up your routine. I also signed up for personal training sessions and have so far and hopefully continue to feel my workouts. I go to Vent fitness for the pool, steam room and sauna mainly. The membership price with the pool is 39.99 a step above the basic membership of 19.99. The pool is 3 lanes which isn't big but you can usually get in even if it's a small wait which I'd hang out in the steam room til I see an opening. The problem is that vent decides to rent out the pool to outside swim teams or high schools that don't have a place to practice. When this happens the pool becomes unavailable to paying members, the ones who pay the higher membership to use the pool. As of right now the pool is closed to members Monday and Friday nights 7-9 pm. The pool closes at 9pm. The pool manager also teaches master swim class for outsiders who pay a fee to do so and again making the pool off limits to members during that time. Sometimes there will be one lane available for paying members. The pool schedule is subject to change at any given time if they do private swim lessons as well. All these programs would be great if they had the space to do so without inconveniencing your already paying members. It's unethical to have members paying a higher rate for use of this area and then rent it out to outsiders collect more money and oust your paying members. I have brought concern to the general manager Kim who's response was Vent strives to provide opportunity to people who would otherwise not have it. Some of the kids of the swim team have disabilities they are a national recognized swim club. I mean what do you say to that right?? I say this. That's what YMCA's are for. Their pools are giant 8-10 lanes. They have team practices taking up 6 lanes but the still have room for members to swim. Vent Fitness is not a YMCA they are not equipped with the pool space to be renting out what members are already paying for and then telling members the pool is closed to them during these times. It's not right. The biggest disappointment is the lack of care from management when this is brought up. It's like shame on you for complaining and it's just too bad because that's the way it is. They do not care how members feel. If it's an inconvenience to you for the entire winter season that you can't use the pool 2 nights a week, they do not care! I took my business elsewhere and am now a happy member of the East Greenbush YMCA, big pool, great classes, awesome, huge hot tub and two level steam room and it's only 10 more a month than the uncaring money hungry Vent fitness. read more

I joined this gym almost a year ago, but ended my membership early. The classes were great, and the sense of community that you can get if you regularly attend the classes is felt. Unfortunately none of the classes were at times that really worked for my schedule. The rooms in Latham are also extremely tiny, so there was a bit of anxiety on getting there on time to have enough space to get a proper workout. I think they should really lower the amount of people allowed to get into those spaces, because cramming everyone in limits the workout significantly. The membership comes with what sounds like a great way to check your fitness level now, in order to compare. But really it's a cheap way to try to talk people into getting a trainer. Not only did they not measure any of my starting points (weight, strength, etc), the basically just ran me through a few minutes of what a "training session" would look like, and then had me sit down with the dietitian even though I said I did not want to. Then at the end they try to get you to sign up for training. No Thanks. I will say that while some of the canceling of the membership was confusing, it said online that you have to cancel in person. But when I went in person you had to cancel online. I will say once I figured it all out, they were really good about letting me out of the contract without paying more then that I had anticipated (the contract fee) read more

Hello General Manager Hope this find you well. I am an active member of the Vent Fitness Latham for over 3 years. I noticed that recently this club is going to renovation and we are really excited to see the new changes. I am sure you are very busy with the coordination of this very big project ahead, and wish that all the members of this club will enjoy a beautiful facility to motivate us to improve our wellbeing in the near future and improves the member numbers as well. As our general manager that cares for the wellness of all members, I want to bring to your attention something that affects all of the people that are using the weight room in the early morning (6 am). Since this weekend, the temperature of this room is at 90F, which create a very unsafe environment to all of us that want to use the equipment due to excessive heat. I am very concern not only for my own safety but also for many members that are retired, or do not come with bottles of water to mitigate this extreme heat. Probably, a problem with the AC unit since all the desk and classes area are at a very comfortable temperature. I brought this to the attention of the desk clerk in turn. However, the problem continues with no proposed solution to this situation. The room does not show any signs that indicates the problem; there are no fans in the weight area that can help mitigate the problem or a simple shut off the system. As a voice of your active members of this gym I feel compelled to write you in person so you can take action of a problem occurring at Latham Vent Facility. HMMMM.... Here I am, to come and comment on the fact that the women's bathroom smells like a Subway (the sandwich kind) and I find that this Yelp page has been seriously neglected. This gym, used to be a Golds gym, which you can tell very obviously by the sad excuse of a small sign hanging over the old logo that peeks out on either side. The good: Cardio Cinema, Classes, lots of weights machines if you are into that, lots of fit people that make you want to work out harder, sauna in the bathroom, the cardio machines that i've used always are working well and that's all I can comment on. The bad: Bathroom is kinda gross and smells (see above) - floors are stained and the lockers are set up funny so that it's such a small amount of room so you are always somehow in someones way, lots of general meat heads that look angry if you didn't let them fill up their shaker bottle of protein before you took a swig from the ONE AND ONLY water fountain in the whole GD place, the workers kind of scoff at you if you aren't in peak physical condition and always give me a condescending look when I ask for a towel, which I pay for!, all the tvs upstairs have either sports or the news playing - not much selection (which I feel like isn't really fair for the other people that might want to watch like TBS or something), I've taken classes, I feel like the sound system isn't great and the ventilation is mostly 4 piddly fans which doesn't really do the job. I actually gave this 1 less star as I was writing because I keep finding more things that peeve me. The gym, it gets the job done. I have the Level 2 membership so I want to frequent the Guilderland branch (the mecca of all things that are Vent Fitness - it's AMAZING) more. NO JOKE if you have the Level 2 or up, go to the Guilderland one, you'll see what your money is REALLY worth. read more

in the 2000's when the gym was still Golds Gym it was fantastic. the second it swu to Vebt Fitness the game started running it like shady car salesman. they hide fees, make it impossible to get money back that they wrongfully took from your months after you told them to cancel your membership, 30% of the staff are great and the rest are bery lazy. there's not enough equipment to support the amount of clients, they don't enforce rules that maintain the value of the membership you pay for, the garbages are overflowing onto the floor. bathrooms are nasty with urine crystallized to the toilets from not cleaning them, the paper towel dispensers are always empty, the pool area closes earlier that listed on the gym hours and there's mold growing in parts of the pool area that rarely gets cleaned properly. a bandaid can last weeks in the steam room with out staff ever looking to clean it. the bathrooms are filthy and covered in water so you can't change in the locker room without getting your socks wet. the pool can never be used because classes even with 3 people will take over the entire pool for hours and half the time you can't get in the sauna because they don't monitor the pool area to kick out the kids who sneak in when they dont have that level of membership. staff have been known to bully members as well. This gym is like buying a Mercedes that has a bunch of hidden mechanical issues and the dealer will find every reason nit to fix it properly or replace what wrong... VERY CHEAP read more

I'll give them 3 stars because they are trying. A bunch of new stair climbers have been added, and the place is pretty well maintained. Mens locker room is kept fairly clean, but the sauna could use a little TLC. Polite crowd, nobody muscles onto machines. Everybody is pretty low key and the muscleheads behave themselves. Staff is generally friendly, but a few of them could act like they are a little happier to work there. Not sunbeams and happy fluffy bunny stuff - just be more pleasant. Outside in the parking lot is another story. I drive a semi, and I always thought truckers were slobs ( I'm not ), but on the side of the building, the gym rats have trumped my co-workers. The final straw was a couple of towels full of human excrement in a parking spot next to all the soda cups. discarded trash, etc. I like to park there to keep my doors from getting dinged in the main lot. The club needs to address this and maybe install cameras and send out a memo to the membership so the pigs behave a little better. They also have a charging station for electric vehicles, if you are the eco-friendly type. It's not a bad bang for the buck. read more

Vent fitness has the absolute worst communication I have ever encountered. Two years ago I got a new job and was no longer near the vent fitness I was going to. So I put a one year freeze on my account, not sure if I could make it back to the facility. Once my freeze was up, nobody notified me, and they automatically renewed my contract for ANOTHER YEAR. Monthly payments were taken from my banking account without me knowing it. Until my credit card that was being charged was hacked, so I had to get a new credit card. Therefore, the automatic payments werent coming out of my account. It wasn't until 2 months after my payments stopped going through that I got a phone call from a collections agency demanding $400 or my credit score would be impacted. Of course I paid it. I called vent fitness, and they told me they sent me an email two months ago tell me my payments weren't going through. I found the email in my spam folder after they told me that, but that was the ONLY form of communication I received. I got charged $400 by a collections agency after missing 3 monthly payments, and all I owed to vent was $112. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR VENT FITNESS, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY. read more

The customer service stinks. They will make you wait 5 minutes to purchase a water while they talk on the phone, chit chat about personal stuff, or make a smoothie. While I was waiting, I just thought to myself, "he could have totally grabbed the water I already asked for while blending that smoothie." There are certain pieces of equipment that are ALWAYS broken (ahem, 1 of 2 stairclimbers upstairs). I overheard some of the trainers talking poorly of their clients to each other. Prior to that I wanted to try the personal training, but now? Nothing about that makes me want to pay extra for "experienced trainers," especially if I will be undermined and belittled and laughed at the entire time. As an overweight/obese woman, I am already self-conscious as it is and I don't need a young muscular man making me feel worse. Seriously, straight up OFFENSIVE. I have heard that the other Vent locations are better, but they are far away. I live closer to planet fitness and often wonder if I made the right decision even coming here at all. read more

Garbage equipment and poorly educated trainers who just like to talk about what you did last weekend rather than fatigue your muscles to stimulate results. They'll also have a 280lb client who hasn't lifted a weight in his life do crunches on a medicine ball- excellent way to injure a client on the first day. They used to have such a great Zumba class on Thursday nights which I would recruit all my friends to go to and they suddenly got a new instructor and the gym went downhill from there. They have fired all of all the great trainers that were teaching me for the past two years and hired people that were working out in those same classes with me. This place has become a joke so after being a loyal customer I have joined another gym called metabolic fitness where you do get that individual attention and I get my moneys worth. read more

Cancelled my membership mid-year 2018, filled out the form through the app to cancel and submitted. Continued to get charged for the next 6 months. Cancelled my credit card since I had not authorized payments after cancelation and started getting texts from the gym about not paying for my membership. Explained to them I cancelled in July and they continued to charge me each month, then 4 months later sent it to collections. When I spoke to Elias I was shocked at how hostile she got towards me, she wanted to quote our text conversations but refused to pull up any supporting information to back my claim I cancelled. She claimed that the app does not have that feature, (it did mid-2018) and refused to pull up the last time I entered any Vent Facility. read more

I joined this gym when I found myself spending the winter here for care for my mom. I live in Boston. I am thrilled with this membership. I wish we had a Vent in Boston. The staff is friendly, the gym is clean the and women's locker room has all the amenities needed. Someone is always cleaning the locker room! I'm on a free trial currently at vent and decided to try out one of the group classes. The body attack class taught by lisa is my absolute favorite. She's upbeat and motivating and she has a good understanding of the human body and how to work it out the right way. VENT has not re- invented good customer service!!! I have been a member since 2006. I have stayed purely because of the location. The only time I have available is early pre workday hours or Sat/Sun morning. I would not work out at 5:30am if I had to drive more than 10 min. I only use this gym for SPIN/RIDE class. I used to do body pump but hurt myself, the instructor did not pay attention & correct my position they are busy working out themselves. I have never suspended my dues & had surgery twice in these years. But now I have had it. They started charging a maintenance fee of $25 annual. For that I have no idea, what they do with this money. multiple times I have told the instructors, front desk & even emailed management about fixing broken bikes. In 2006 there were 30 bikes & now there are 20 and at least 4 of this last Friday required fixing. So what's up with this. Why is Latham Vent ignored & had poor equipment, if I don't want to lift weights and exclusively attend Spin class, I should be able to show up at 5:30 am & have a functioning bike, Looking into ABC fitness now because no call when I was promised the Manager would call me yet. read more

Really have enjoyed my membership at Vent Fitness. I signed up for a level 2 membership while my boyfriend does a level 1 since he doesn't do the classes with me. We both like the facility a lot. I find it clean and fairly up to date. I've never had to wait to use equipment and I'm very comfortable working out here. There's a great mix of people, a nice age range, and big range of physical shape. I love love the classes. I do the virtual spin classes during off hours in the afternoon. At night I usually take class with Raju, either body jam or Zumba. He is an awesome instructor and I look forward to my classes all week. I've also taken yoga and found it to be a great class for both beginners and people with more experience. So far I've been really happy with vent fitness and I recommend the Latham location to all my friends. read more
